We're in the final stretch of the vehicle collage. If you want to participate and you haven't done so already, please submit your vehicle as a reply to this post. Tomorrow is the last day of submissions and I'll make the collage and vote for next weeks theme over the weekend. Also, feel free to give us some suggestions for next months theme.

You can post the next month's challenge/subject before the collage is done too. It's not a big deal if you need more time to finish it and can't drop it on the 1st.
>>95956155>>95956172If you finish over the weekend I might be able to squeeze you in. I'll do the collage on sunday.

>>95956163I had this set.
>>95956463Yes. There are 2 ways to use them
The first is to use small squads of them as objective takers. They have 6 inch deepstrike, good mobility and good bulk. They can drop down, kill some cultists on the home objective, then capture it. Or just do actions.
Or, in Gladius, you can run a 6 man and pop Storm of Fire to have them do really good damage to units who are otherwise in cover.

>>95956652Tyranids by far they are the only truly alien race in 40k. And the GSC are a direct reference to the shadow over Innsmouth.
Chaos and the Chaos gods are born directly from human emotion that then warp and twist humans devouted to them. So still lovecraftian in the sense that its a force far above humanity causing changes in humans, but its known why and how this happens so they're less lovecraftian than the nids.
>>95956539nice painted models anon but i think the sculpt is awful. not as bad as suppressors though
>>95956686>Thatโs a lovely shade of orange. What paints did ya use? That was just Jokaero Orange over a white prime with some recess/pin shading of Reikland Flesh Shade in the panel lines and rivets. It's surprisingly easy to do.
>Iโve never added chipping effects or weathering. Any color advice for a light to medium gray tankโs chipping and weathering?I'm not an expert on the subject, for the Sagitaur I just crumpled up a napkin and blotted some AP Gun Metal down on the corners and edges where the vehicle would experience the most physical contact/wind resistance. I'm gonna go back over it later and add some scratches/lining in a lighter orange where the paint meets the chipping and a little brown rust to make it pop eventually.

The recent codex cover arts being as great as they are honestly sets me a little bit at ease about the future of 40k. The covers were no doubt approved by massive committee but at least they have an understanding of what 40k should look like and arenโt failing around like d&d

can i submit something to the collage even if it sucks
Dark Eldar refresh is coming. I can feel it.
>>95956488Proof that the old-timers are finally fucking gone. Hopefully they stay gone.
Broad spoilers for The Silent King;
The three main players are Guilliman, Szarekh, and Vashtorr.
Guilliman is focused on defeating the Silent King, but Cawl believes Vashtorr is the greater threat.
Szarekh's empire is crumbling around him after Imotekh's rebellion. Many Dynasties have broken off entirely to pursue their own agendas or join the rebels. The protocols used by Szarekh to maintain control have been shattered by Imotekh and Orikan, neither of whom have been seen openly in the Nexus for some time.
Vashtorr is essentially pulling off a heist, attempting to steal and corrupt the Blackstone Pylons from the Nexus.
By the time Guilliman arrives both the Imperium and the Necrons are exhausted. Guilliman grimly notes that if not for Imotekh's rebellion and the ensuing infighting between the Necrons, the Imperial invasion likely would have failed completely in later stages. His plan is to strike at Szarekh directly with an elite force of Ultramarines and Sisters of Battle to either kill the Silent King or force his withdrawal, while Cawl leads the Ad Mech in securing and depowering the Pylons using methods newly learned methods, breaking the Necron's hold on the area entirely.
Szarekh is enraged and supercharges the entire Pariah Nexus array, a risky move that could rip apart the very fabric of reality.
>Despite the oppression of the Nexus' pylons, Guilliman is able to break the hold they have over the Imperials and becomes a shining beacon of faith that they rally behind
Guilliman wounds Szarekh in a duel and forces him to retreat, but is then notified by Cawl that traitors within the Mechanicus have inverted several Pylons
Vashtorr had infiltrated the Imperials and hijacked their plan, stealing several Pylons to embed within Wormwood and rigging most others to violently overcharge
The Imperials flee the Nexus en masse as the entire section of space is ripped apart, forming a new miniature Eye of Terror as Vashtorr escapes into the Warp victorious
>>95956710I like that GSC make the population healthy and efficient so the Imperium ends with the issue that destroying a cult will end hurting their ability to make war somewhere else.
Fucking cults produce the food, ores, warmachines, medicine, consumer goods, etc for the imperium.
Fucking illegal aliens are taking the jobs of imperial citizens
>>95956832You apparently don't know how black library books work with always maintaining the status quo.
>>95956712Some of the recent arts have been absolute trash though, what are you on about? If you said this a few years ago in 9th edition I would understand, we had that one dude who did AdMech and GSC who was a god tier new artist, but nowadays things are backsliding again. The Black Templar one is a travesty.
>>95956837Imperial Guard regiments that have been infiltrated and taken over by GSC are also noted for being some of the most disciplined, cohesive and effective regiments.
>>95956832>[special character] says>[special character] does >[special character] thinksremember when a WAR game was about battles and factions and not about superheroes?

>>95956864
>>95956652Been stated many times in the past, and a few other anons in this thread have already pointed it out, but:
Tyranids are Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror.
Chaos are Gothic Horror, with a tiny splash of the Lovecraft stuff too.
>>95956864Did you read the previous eight books in the series that were exactly that?
What's that?
You didn't?
No one did?
But now everyone is interested in the book that has two big named characters doing the thing?
Huh, that's so weird.
>>95956871No one is interested in any of those retarded books.
>>95956864This 100%
Forge World always did it best, but you'd get some great stuff out of Chambers and Jervis. The modern writers coming from superhero comics instead of from WW2 documentaries is utterly ruining 40k.
>>95956110How kino is this

>>95956922>Retard doesn't know that GW almost went bankrupt twice in its history.Gotta love when tourists who don't know the history expose themselves.
>>95956915No, the company became more profitable the moment it killed 7th edition, breathing fresh air into the game, and by providing discounted start collecting boxsets.
Not thanks to superheroes, if you're going to argue it's a cause instead of an incidence then you also have to argue that stormcasts brought gw back from bankruptcy.
>>95956932Yeah, it just doesn't fucking work unless the legs are off.
>>95956932Now I remember the fan art about xcom mech troopers.
>>95956940The announcement that Guilliman was coming back was a massive driving force in the explosion of sales that 8th Edition saw.
>>95956937I know all of the history, in much, much greater detail than you, I promise you.
The company did not recover because of a "focus on superheroes" like you are suggesting. Black Library doesn't even make 1% of the companies profits. Fucking idiot.
>>95956966There is zero proof of this at all. The explosion of sales came from the game getting redone completely with brand new rules for the first time in 20 years.
>>95956919based
>>95956955The names are for the top row of daemons, the bottom row are nameless
>>95956966There were a few main reasons that 8th was so successful it largely saved GW. One was the introduction of contrast paints and the accompanying marketing campaign that really got people hyped (as well as the paints themselves actually delivering on what they promised). Then we had what was effectively a range refresh of the entire space marine range, which both made GW:s biggest paypiggies rebuy entire armies, and served as the perfect jumping on point for fresh new players. Finally, the 8th edition rulesset was just far, far better than the 7th ed rules. They were simpler, more intuitive and made the game so much easier to play, so it was much easier to introduce new people to it. No beginner would happen to come across the abominations that were 7th ed lists with triptides and jetbike spam allied together with culexus assassins. Armies made sense, everyone was on equal footing and it was just a great time to get into 40k.

>>95956955>>95956995he'll be game ready in no time
>>95956966No, it really wasn't
>>95956935They're not ending the Pariah Nexus warzone and they're not creating a new Eye of Terror in a side book series. That kind of shit happens in edition changes or narrative events.
>>95956998There's also the fact that the reason GW was failing in the first place wasn't 40k, but all the other bad investments they made. Fantasy had been unprofitable for a long time because of poor rules decisions with the last few editions. Then they killed it entirely and rebooted it with the retarded Age of Sigmar launch which I think people forget just how bad that was at the start before the General's Handbook - almost all of the money and resources poured into that were completely and utterly wasted. Lord of the Rings had been on a decline for awhile since it was a boom and bust project from the beginning that coasted on the success of the Peter Jackson films which were losing their new shine as years went by. And of course 40k itself was a shitshow in 6th and 7th with worsening art, lore, and rules, but even still, it probably could have been barely profitable if not being dragged down by the debt of the other dead weight systems.
>>95956998Summarized it pretty well, but let's also not forget the pandemic hobby bump too.
>>95956998Times I actually enjoyed 40k.
First years of 3rd.
First years of 4th when everyone had 3rd editions codex.
That strange time during the last years of 7th when my local group never waacfagged so we never encounter the horrors of 7th.
The first years of 8th
That last year of 9th.
Everything else has been rather ass and I ended playing other games.
am i nuts if I played since fifth and think that 10th isn't that bad compared to 6th and 7th
>>95957028This. As with most things it really was the consequence of many things aligning at just the right time, people are far too quick to jump on a single reason when changes like this often come from many happening at once.
Do you think Space Marines will get another total redesign in the next 10 years or so?
Primaris are almost a decade old now.
>>95957024Ah warhammer fantasy. When you need like 40 models for a single unit, and the kit they sold you came with 10 models.
And you needed at least 4 of those to play the most basic bitch army.
>>95957035>First years of 3rd.>First years of 4th when everyone had 3rd editions codex.>That strange time during the last years of 7th when my local group never waacfagged so we never encounter the horrors of 7th.>The first years of 8th>That last year of 9th.Holy shit are you literally me? Described it to a T, like exactly. Only change I would make is that 8th I probably enjoyed for just 1 year at the start and lost interest rapidly.
>>95957037no, but it's always more popular to say the present is the worst time ever
>>95957044They don't need to. For GW to get bigger it's now far less about the product - which is good enough as it is for their purposes - and far more mass advertising and appeal, like with Space Marine 2 and the Amazon show.
>>95957037Nah, I started around the same time and also have a similar opinion of all those editions. I think I genuinely like 9th the most though, despite all its flaws.
>>95957037I can't get over the partial removal of customization options and lack of points to a degree where I think it might legitimately be the worst thing they've ever done in terms of personal enjoyment. Beyond that it's not the worst edition though, I agree, even if it's a waste of 8e's potential.
>>959570377th on its own is not a bad ruleset. It's failing come from trying to fix the utter garbage that 6th allowed and codex permitted.
Because if you removed the stupid bullshit like the alliance or the free upgrades, it can work pretty well.
Can't say the same thing for 10th many of the issue of today stem from the ruleset.
>>95957037Not in the slightest. 10th is a perfectly fine edition, ruleswise. It's had some bumps with some weird rulings and a plague of waac-faggery, but it is nice for just playing 40k. I did a narrative campaign with some buddies recently and 10th worked really nicely, we all could play both varied and very fluffy armies for the scenarios we did (for example, I played GSC and went through broodsurge, outlander claw and ascension host for the three scenarios I played and every time the detachment enhanced the mission narrative).
>>95957011This made me realise none of the gods have monkey dudes serving them

I don't really think it warrants a separate thread, but it is a topic I'd like to get some information from and you guys know your shit, so: why is it that 40K, and I would assume Warhammer as a whole, is so bereft of sex appeal? I don't mean the off-model Tau or any kind of typical coomer/gooner trappings, I mean just normal cheeky, risquรฉ content that exists in pretty much any other game to some extent. Is it intentionally sanitized from this topic to keep it focused on the grim and dark that is eternal warfare, or is it just not something that gets brought up but is implicit?
Genuine question, would appreciate genuine replies.
>>95957124no i was making a man joke but also yes the emperor has literal space orangutan genius savants too
>>95957143It wasn't always and you can see that in old art and models. But I think you can figure out why that's not the case now.

>>95957143>Genuine question, would appreciate genuine replies.I'm 90% sure you're just shitstirring but in case you aren't - it's because GW still clings to the illusion that their main consumerbase is middle aged women buying models for their 12 year old Timmies. Plus retarded corporate agenda that requires growth every year no matter what so they have to make the system as inoffensive as they can so as many people as possible can potentially get into it without being offended.
>>95957143>so bereft of sex appeal? One of GW biggest markets is mothers buying toys for their little Timmys. Mums will not really buy models with periced perky tits hence why Slaanesh and Dark Eldar are some of the least sold army ranges.
GW weird puratinism in models despite the grim dark violence it also shows in models is just a reflection of our own societies double standards of, violence and death is good normal and fine for kids to play with, but female nipples and the naked human form is not.
>Hacking someones head off with a chainsaw axe in service of satan is fine as a villian for little timmy to play with, a topless daemon women with exposed female nipples is not
>>95957143because it was a product of the 80s targeted at middle aged nerds instead of teenager nerds, and because when it got popular and aimed at younger people it also had to be made safer for mass appeal and younger targets than teenagers.

>>95957160There is a reason why the old folks are super salty about modern 40k.

>>95957143Old warhammer was held back in terms of sex appeal because, in spite of John Blanche's addiction to BDSM shit, the design team couldn't produce a female sculpt that didn't look like a gouty gorilla if their lives depended on it.

The space marine is shorter and far wider than normal, like he has a different physcial frame or build compared to the standard. His power axe has a power cord making it pretty impractical as a weapon. His shoulder pads are two scultped skulls. The squat wide build is the main one though, every other space marine has a more lean frame and are taller

>>95957068I think 7th has more balance issues than just ally matrix and detachments/free upgrades
Lords of War, the Psychic phase, waaay too many Special Rules and Monsters being so good compared to vehicles made the game super anti-fun.
A lot of the cope about 7th is "Oh, it doesn't matter that much because if you didn't play WAAC it didn't effect you" but things like a Dread going to fight a Riptide or something and getting beaten into the dirt because of the differences between Monster and Vehicle was just sad, man.

>>95957297dark / blood angels and it's not close.
>>95957209Yeah its a pretty dumb double standard when you think about it. The Imperium also literally worships the human form as divine, hence the hatred of mutants for corrupting the human shape. And any xenos that look like humans as their excistence corrupts the human ideal. Thats why there's skulls everywhere. So what I saying is there should be statues of naked men and women celebrating the ideal human form, something like ancient greece, all around the Imperium and it should be reflected in art and terrain models
Had a game the other day where a situation came up with secondary missions and controlling objectives. If I have a single unit large enough to be within range of and controlling more than one objective marker, can it be selected for the action on the Cleanse secondary mission? If so, when the action completes, are both of the objectives they are within range of and controlling cleansed?
I still think yes, but my opponent wasn't convinced, so I just went with them to keep the game going.

I mean she's been ignored and subtly dropped because of her silly name most likely, but like I don't recall anything in the lore in all the intervening decades that says explicitly that she never existed. I wouldn't call that a hard retcon. Simply ignoring an old awkward bit of lore and never talking about is pretty much definitionally the softest possible retcon to the point it's not even a retcon.
>>95957356Sculpture was modelled on the sculptor's wife. He refused to cover her up in any way. Painters were told to paint a leotard on her despite his wish that she be naked except for the string thong.

Guysโฆ..I donโt think the Ultramarines are a Codex Compliant chapterโฆ
>new leman russ kit doesn't come with the tank upgrade sprue
Wtf? I know we got an extra turret. But what the fuck. Now I need to buy 3 extra fucking sprues just to have armored tracks on my tanks
>>95957540I love space crusade. I still have my old box with all the bitz :) the sculpts are so psoulful
>>95958259They don't come with them because the crew bits were put into the tanks sprues back in 5e. Only the Basilisk comes with the sprue these days, since it hasn't been updated beyond swapping the hull to the new Chimera hull. If you want track guard without a whole new sprue, might want to look at 3rd parties or China.
>>95958244nta but I was perturbed by the idea 2 of my dudes fired one gun, and my serg was forced to fire a pistol as a guard player for many years
then now its only heavy weapons teams and the sergeants can now be upgraded/sidegraded with rifles like the rest of the squad has
>>95958244I think autoguns look aesthetically pleasing to mine eyes. Thatโs really it.

For the 8th time a 40k player has been banned from my local place for racism that would make /pol/ blush. for the 7th time out of those 8 its once again a Black Templar player.
Do you think geedubs is aware they have one sub faction that is so specifically the "not racist just dont want em 'ere" crowd? like what do you do when one of your in setting factions appeals to a specific group like that?

I feel like the reason thereโs technically no canon loyalists with traitor geneseed is because James Workshop wants to make an eventual narrative by โofficiallyโ doing it for the first time. A big point of contention between Cawl and Gulliman is Cawl pestering him to let him do it, and a tension exists between the High Lords and Gulliman since Gulliman is going around the galaxy signing off on every instance of Codex non-compliance he comes across. Having Space Marines with no chance of a Primarch coming back for them would be a major benefit for the High Lords to have.

Writing for GW once doesn't make everything you say suddenly canon.
>>95957666My dynasty doesn't have a name currently (because I suck at egyptian sounding names), but their backstory and force organization is basically written out.
Before their transcension, this particular dynasty of Necrontyr were comprised of Scholars, Scribes, Professors and Scientists. They sold their services to any other dynasty in need of their assistance, and researched the universe in hopes of finding a solution to their miserable lives. When the promise of immortality was given, they took the plunge to soulless automata without hesitation. In the grimdark future, they may have lost their souls but they have not lost their original purpose to discover and learn how their reality ticks. Do not take this to mean they are noble or heroic. Even before their transformation, they had a rumored reputation of commiting atrocious experiments against their own kind to understand their own biology. Even now in M42, the common necron warrior is seen as a mere commodity to trade for a potential Cryptek's assistance.
>>95959361it's on lexicanum, it's canon

What you're referring to is an unnamed planet with a Native American culture, from which DA recruited some of their marines in the Deathwing short story.
>>95959442the comical part about the alpha legion is they dont have any lore.
It something GW would need to move up to. I think we rather have a word bareres refresh before they move to alpha legion.
I claim the alpha legion is the only legion that is neutral in the whole civil war.
They have still loyal "chapters" now on imperial side and chaos branches. I say that the blood ravens are loyal alpha legionnaires as are the raptors and many other chapters.
>>95959466Sounds accurate desu

>>95959466Alpha legions are just another chaos warband of demon worshippers.

Honestly thought they came from ultra marines. How does someone as boring as dorn get the sauciest successors?
>>95959405Bruh the lex entry for lamenters is like 30% fan fiction. Lex has never had any sort of vetting process or authentication system in place to ensure accuracy
>>95959487They are what the lore wants them to be. There is a lack of le ebin 4d chess chapters/warbands
If you want the generic warband you black legion/or any warband you make your self.
The alpha legion was is made as black ops operators in mind. Not corax stealth archer types but CIA/FSB/NSA/MI5 glow in dark nigger wet work guys.
They could for real stayed neutral and play or observe both sides. Would explain why choas has the Imperiums new toys. Like back when we got the landraiderยดs and chaos had the same and the predators and so forth.
Alpha legion has loyalist branches that stay loyal and give some gear to wards the main alpha legion. They get the more free thinking marines that would not fit any more in strict loyalist chapters. Alpha legion could be the biggest and strongest of legions simply by having it all and fallingf or the choas lies. Also something alpharion and omegle was warned about. That council of ayy lamos who told them.
I mean lets say cypher maybe being alpharion ar omegon and walk the line in between both worlds. Would more spice and drama in to whole soup.
Blodd ravens being of the alpha legion would also explain why they have so many psykers ( they are also used for communication, not just le wizzard) stuff you need behind enemy lines and why they are so "skilled" at recovering gear and equipment from other chapters.
>>95959556It's because when you make a chapter with an actual personality you choose the least interesting chapter to be descended from so their characterisation and reputation doesn't get tainted by the more prominent first founding shitters.
For example, the moment you say your dudes come from salamanders everyone is immediately going to think they're exactly like salamanders with their skin color, flame fetish, and being "wholesome good boys".
Instead you pick imperial fists because they're the blankest blandest slate.
The worst that happens with them is TTS cringe.
>>95959566>They are what the lore wants them to beThe lore wants them to be just another chaos warband of demon worshippers.

I dont know what happened to the crackle paint this time around, but I like quite how hard it "crackled". The dried pva glue also makes the inside acid or lava have a nice glisten too.
>>95959629heatwaves make the liquid element evaporate faster which pulls the dense particulate apart faster.
>>95959629looks really cool. remember, no mistakes, only happy accidents.
>>95959629The smoother surface under it the bigger the cracks. You can even hit your base with a coat of gloss varnish before you apply your paste for really aggressive cracking in targeted spots you just want to brush some matte varnish over the top to lock it all down
>Turns out they were imperial fist successors all along
>>95959674They are now part of the group of the best successor chapters.
>>95959635Ah makes sense.its been 30C + here lately so thats probably why.
>>95959652Yeah its pretty cool
>>95959655I dont do gloss varnish, I do a layer of pva glue spread out first before the paint. I tried a layer of ardcoat when i was first experimenting with the paint and it didnt look as cool.
3 years ago, I started collecting a Genestealer Cults army.
I never really liked the official GSC lore โ the whole idea of carefully preparing a planet just to be devoured later didnโt sit right with me. It just never appealed.
But Iโve always loved their themes: guerrilla warfare, fanatical devotion, and the struggle of the low against the high.
So I came up with my own lore for them.
In my version, they're just regular humans working in an industrialized Imperial system. Years of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals have slowly turned them into mutants.
Their working conditions are unbearable, yet their labor brings enormous value to the Imperium. Aware of this, the people begin to demand a better life โ and eventually, they rise up in rebellion.
Thatโs their story.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to share any photos of my Genestealer Cult โ my old accounts with the pictures have been deleted, and the army itself no longer exists. You'll just have to take my word for it.
However, I can post images of my CSM and share the lore of the warband, if you're interested.
Are there any sources for the 9th edition codices? I want some of the lore from the AdCustodes one, among other stuff. I can't find it on the sharethread stuff, and the stuff in the OP is very out of date. Half the stuff in the 9th edition folder in the big torrent is just 8th edition with errata.
