>hey DM, can we play in a middle of the road setting where Magic does exist but it's not so prolific that a level 1 cleric or wizard or druid possesses world changing powers and there's dozens of them in even a small city but also something where we're not living in some neckbeard edgelord's grimderp muh heckin realism everyone's a diseased rapist that dies to a bandit armed with a fork sadsack world? Like an in-between setting like lord of the rings maybe?
>"NO I'M A MIDWIT LAZY WANNABE CREATIVE WITH NO OUTLET BESIDES FORCING YOU TO BE MY DEFACTO PSYCHIATRISTS HELPING ME LARP OUT MY INFANTILE MORALITY SYSTEM IN THIS HOBBY THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE LIGHTHEARTED ESCAPISM ENTERTAINMENT!"

These caliber of stellar threads is what I come to /tg/ for

Low magic settings mean there’s almost no magic and it’s a grimderp slog where you die easily

That's not what low magic means at all. Stop confusing mudcore retardation with low magic.

Does "low magic" mean that magic is rare, or magic is weak?

>Low magic settings mean there’s almost no magic
Low magic means the magical elements are suppressed in a way that they don't overtake the realism completely, it's more grounded in presentation.

You aren't going to have Dauntless the Overlord get off a giant iron throne carried by 100 slaves to run, jump 20 feet in the air, and punch the ground to cause an earthquake that takes out half the enemy army.

Instead you are going to have Lilly the apothecarian ask you to retrieve a foreign plant and use it with other chemicals to make a liquid that will supernaturally increase your body's immune system and regeneration. You won't regrow limbs, but you will be near or little above peak human in recovery as the drug works its way out of your system.

Yeah I never got that, crucible steel certainly hasn't been too common until recent history but steel is really not that hard to make.

Low fantasy and by extension grimderp need REALLY good hooks to get me invested and even with them most of the time they make better books than games and even the ones that make better books still fall flat because if you've read one low-fantasy grimderp you've read em all really
