There is midrange in premodern. Some examples are the Deadguy Ale and Machine Head decks. Deadguy Ale in particular is a fairly low cost deck if you're buying the cards for it. Pic related is one of the more expensive versions you can find online if you ignore the two guys who go crazy and put mox diamond in everything yet still don't make into the top 8 at the event. You could obviously drop the deck's price down to $90 if you removed the null rod from the sideboard and replaced it with a cheaper option. Of course a viable midrange deck if possible in other color combinations if you want to be creative with it.

It's just those decks. With midrange decks like that you don't have the option to just counter remove or anything like that so it can be choice if you come against reanimator. And if you're not against anything in the graveyard, you can just pop it for a draw.

Furnace has started going back down recently though. The Deadguy Ale deck doesn't run it in main. Most decks don't. Often decks will run Tormod's crypt instead in the sideboard. Black can run planar void or withered wretch instead as well so it's not necessary to go with furnace as black.

The price increase since last year is likely due to more people playing pre-modern than before. And of course, the old expansions are generally long out of print and might not get a List reprint. Furnace itself has not been reprinted unlike Tormod's crypt so it is really a more expensive option. You use it if your deck would have an advantage using it or if you want to avoid redirect type effects. Otherwise, Tormod's Crypt in the sideboard is generally the better option.

A battle - siege says:

An artifact - spacecraft says:

The only differences are that your opponent can't block for it and your creatures all have 'haste'. The balance difference is that stations look like they're fucking garbage ETB triggers and creature value compared to battles.
Most battles are costed on-rate for their ETB triggers compared to sorceries, and the defense is just all pure upside.
Invasion of Mercadia is the exact same as Tormenting Voice. Its one of like 10 copies of the spell with different upsides, like bitter dispute, witch's mark, highway robbery, etc. The upside of Mercadia is that the battle can flip for 4 to become a mediocre spellshaper (3/3 with ability to pay 3, tap, discard, make 2x 1/1 tokens and give your team +1/+0 and haste)
What does a spacecraft give?

FOUR mana for a draw 2 cards discard a card, an effect that normally costs two mana

It has been 9 years since they introduced vehicles. And in those 9 years they haven't figured out that vehicles are utterly unplayable in Limited. Forget Smuggler's Copter or whatever exception there is to that statement they haven't figured out that similarly, equipment was bad - but vehicles are so much worse. Like, really think about that. There's really only two possibilities that lead to that situation: either they don't test Limited or they're testing Limited but they're too incompetent to actually determine what is or isn't playable. Esika's Chariot and Magitek Armor crew themselves - that is basically what every vehicle needs to be playable and they printed maybe one of those ever three years.

Invasion of Zendikar was used by domain for its whole competitive heydey, just 4 mana sorcery to get 2 basics. And it got power crept by Map the Frontier, since you could put 1x arid archway 1x conduit pylons in your deck and it would ramp 2, surveil 2, draw an extra land.

Rest of battles follow that line of sorcery costing a normal mana value for its effect that you'd get with other upsides normally

Hearthstone suffers from the same power and complexity creep that Magic does. It's also woefully expensive to play. Shadowverse was fun in 2016 before they released Wonderland Dreams, everything went south after that and Shadowverse 2 is apparently horrible to play if you don't throw your wallet at it. When it draws two hands and automatically picks one, it will regularly chuck the one a human player would have wanted, in favor of one that technically better fits the rules it's supposed to be optimizing for.
