>>95948249>TQHave you ever had a party member betray the others? How should a situation like that be handled?
>TQ
No. This is one of my very, very few rules. I am extremely permissive as a DM, but this shit absolutely grinds my gears. I don't care if it's done well, I am ontologically opposed to any and all betrayal from PCs to PCs. Zero tolerance for that shit.
>How should a situation like that be handled
Swiftly and without compunction. I will remove your ass from the table and you will no longer be welcome at it. If my players do it consensually behind my back, then they're going to have to find a new DM.
Betrayal is truly and utterly the worst sin man commits. I will not stand for it.
>>95968529I never said there weren't rules, I said they were bad.
>>95968495 (OP)>TQOccasionally, but always discussed out of character first. Players never betray other players, but we can send our characters down that route as long as we all agree on it.
I'm starting a 5e 2024 campaign soon where the players are Terminator Cyborgs sent back in time to kill the first artificer. Cyborg PCs will get cybernetic attachments/upgrades (so far at 1, 3, 6, 9, 12....). I need some help balancing these out and making sure they are all fair and FUN.
These should be like cyborg things that cyborgs might do in movies. I want the players to feel like they are in an 80s movie, like Terminator or Robocop, but with wizards and magic.
Current cyborg attachments I've written up:
>Laser Eye
>Improved Vision
>Energy Cannon
>Rocket Boosters
>Enhanced Speed
>Blink Reflex
>Body Armor
So far I've written them so each has 4 different levels, but I'm not sure if that is just too much to keep track of. The PCs will of course also not have to eat, won't have to rest, and won't suffer from normal exhaustion. I've planned the campaign to run about a year, and have a ton of stuff written for the story so far. I just need to make sure the mechanics all make sense and are interesting when the players see them at Session 0.
>>95968612Detachable/re-attachable limbs. Let a motherfucker send his hand crawling into a room to scout it out.
>>95968612>Tactical uplinkYou can telepathically communicate with allied creatures within 120 feet. Once per long rest, grant an ally advantage on their next attack, save, or check.
>Wrist mounted toolsGain proficiency with thieves' tools and tinkerโs tools. You can magically interface with constructs or magical devices (detect traps, bypass arcane locks etc.)
>Flesh disguiseAs shapechanger from changeling race
>Self repair moduleOnce per short rest heal 1d8+level HP
Some ideas. To balance it I'd give basically no useful magic items and these abilities are the replacement.
>>95968495 (OP)>TQFull on betrayal? Never
Not contribute to solving the problem at hand? Yeah, happened in my last session. A few of the other party members got caught by a large band of cultists and one PC semi-successfully convinced them he'd join the cult while another PC got caught and was about to get bled for a sacrifice.
The rest of the party initiates combat to stop the sacrifice but the PC who said he'd join the cult decided to hid in a tent for all rounds of combat to save himself; not contributing to the party effort in anyway.
>>95968620>Detachable/re-attachable limbs. That could go along with the "Wrist Mounted Tools", if I wanted to do it with levels. It could even have a "Turn your hand into any weapon" at one of the levels. Something like:
>Start: left arm is made of silver metal and can reshape into any weapon, which the PC is automatically proficient with. >Upgrade 1 - gain advantage on picking locks and disarming traps, and become proficient with thieves tools and tinker's tools.>Upgrade 2 - >Max Upgrade - Arm can detach and move up to 30 feet away and still make melee attacks. Detached hand can also pick locks, disable traps, and see.I can actually model this, I think. Yes, I'm building all the PC models/miniatures for this campaign. Most cyborg attachments will be a simple paint-swipe (like changing an eye to laser-red, or painting an arm silver). I'm using CapCut to make a video right now about the miniatures for the campaign. It'll be released after the campaign starts in probably August.

>>95968495 (OP)>Have you ever had a party member betray the others? How should a situation like that be handled?Yes, me, but not really. I got possessed and rather than take control of my character, the DM told me to act like an evil doppelganger. I was a rogue, and we were, fourth or fifth level. I almost caused a TPK because I was too efficient and ruthless.
>wait for the fighter to leave the room>gank the shit out of the wizard>cleric spends every round screaming for help and casting healing word, I keep avoiding sacred flame>initative in order so that the wizard gets downed before he gets a turn and revied after his turn>fighter finds me in another roomed, trapped in a doll and I explain that there is is an imposter among us (this was 2021m it was still funny)Fighter takes me back and dash + actions surges to get back to the other room and takes out the evil me. Cleric and wizard were upset at me for a few weeks, DM and fighter thought it was awesome, I got inspiration.
Would not recommend.

My DM wants to give us one low level at will spell, but I couldn't decide what to take. I ended up with Scorching Ray, but I realized later that since it's only cast at the lowest level for free, it scales badly the further into the campaign we go, and eats my action even though I'm not using a spell slot.
Should I see if he'll let me switch to something else? Maybe like Misty Step, or another 1st or 2nd level spell.
>>95969151Who the fuck wants a d12 and who the fuck wants cleave?

A cleave attack means another chance to kill or crit with reckless attack which means another chance to get a BA attack
>>95969218Even in that case, halberd is significantly more consistent for getting cleaves than greataxe. But I guess halberd is kinda like greatestaxe is you really think about it. One day I'm going to write up a homebrew to fix masteries, I love the concept but the execution is lacking.
>>95969240Yeah but halberds don't look as cool as greataxes imo

>you know the Life transference spell and can cast it with this trait. you can't cast it again this way until you finish a long rest. When cast Life transference, you can instead reverse the rolls: choose a target an dmake a melee spell attack roll against a creature within 5 ft of you. >>95968495 (OP)One of my games has somehow developed with the PCs all being self-interested and not necessarily liking each other.
One player retired their PC by having them undergo a crisis of faith and complete breakdown and then accept an offer to betray the rest of the party (they died hilariously easily and undignified).
Another time the party sort of collectively betrayed one PC after he got possessed by a ghost offscreen (only that PC's player knew) and when they eventually found out never did anything about it. Down the line a villain offered to free him from the possession if he joined her and he had no reason not to accept. The party beat the villain and let the "traitor" go.
That player's new PC is good rather than evil (maybe chaotic neutral) and occasionally bemoans being stuck with them until they can escape the Feywild and she can go back to her village.
All the players are having fun with the party dynamic and we've paused to confirm above table we're comfortable with things proceeding (they've been spot decisions in both betrayal instances).

Another six months have passed, and so it's time for me to post the updates to my bullshit 5.5 revision:
https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/-VVNGbAUyyHU
Last time, I overhauled the paladin and sorcerer subclasses to make them more consistent in what they do and how they function. Ranger, rogue, and shaman have now had their subclasses revised, and I'll continue with artificer, cleric, and mystic over the next six months. Cleric might be receiving a new subclass as part of this, bringing it up to twelve, while mystic might see some influence--though I doubt much--from the recent Psion UA article.
>Shaman
As I had originally designed the subclasses to be fairly consistent, shaman needed a bit less work than the other classes. Some of the defensive reactions are now applicable to other friendly creatures, while other features were tightened up. Mostly a tuning pass.
>Ranger
All of the ranger subclasses now offer additional benefits for a specific use of pursuit dice, leaning into their controlling mechanic a bit more and distinguishing the different types of ranger a bit more. Beastmaster has been rebranded as Huntmaster and now has some features that can benefit other allied creatures in addition to your hunting companion, making it a more well-rounded supporting subclass. Horizon Walker is now a bit more clear in what it wants to be doing, and I moved away from every ranger subclass's capstone being a reaction that halves damage you take. I also made the decision to add subclass-specific Primal Secrets, which I plan to replicate for paladins and artificers in the future.
>Rogue
Probably needed some of the most work thus far, given the change in subclass feature levels. Inquisitive is now a bit more cautious and defensive, giving it an actual mechanical identity. Mastermind leans into the idea of having your allies fight for you, and we'll probably see some of the ideas there refined for a more support-focused fighter build when I get there.
>>95970498>>95970959There's a bit in Dragon Heist where the players may contact a private investigator. What's not obvious is that the PI is actually a Rakshasa in disguise. He's a very minor NPC in the adventure, given only an offhand mention in one or two paragraphs, and the fact he's a Rakshasa is completely irrelevant to his role in the story, so even if the players encounter him it's possible they never find out he's actually a man-eating tiger in disguise.
It's never explained why a high level fiend chose to settle in downtown Waterdeep or why he's running a private detective agency. And, again, it's completely irrelevant to the actual adventure he's mentioned in. There doesn't seem to be a point to it. He's just amusing himself.
Rakshasas are fun.
Going to start a new spelljammer game, and I have ideas for two possible story starts, and can't choose which to go with.
>The party all get black-holed by two bags of holding being put together and start the game floating in the Astral Sea, in an area filled with other creatures and things dumped into the realm this way, and will have to navigate their way back to the edge of wildspace using whatever debris and other things are available, eventually finding their way to a settlement which is essentially a plastic beach. A Hill Giant will float into the settlement soon after and having just left the Astral Realm, will suddenly be starving again and start tearing the place apart looking for food.
Or
>the party begins captive in a Nautiloid as a Gnome Ceremorph runs experiments on them using a type of psionic fungus that pulls away fear/anger/etc in an attempt to find an ethical alternative to eating brains. Right as the discovery is made, a large scale stipple battle breaks out between some Giff and Githyanki, and the nautiloid is caught in the middle, destroying the gnome's research. Players will have to convince one of the sides to help then or otherwise find a way to survive the battle, and choose whether or not to try to convince peoe that mind flayers might not have to eat brains.
Which should I go with for the opening? The other will probably be incorporated in as a later quest.

>>95971205Yep. Covers for having close to half as many hit points as base 5e, making hit points into more of a resource to be managed.
>>95971220how much hp would a lv 7 barbarian or wizard have?
>>95971250Respectively, 36 and 12 hit points, before Con modifier.
>>95971276are monsters much weaker now or do you expect a lot of character turnover despite the amount of customization / rules for character creation?
DNDtrannies are real
Go check /mtfg/, itโs people discussing 5e
>>95971313Monsters aren't undergoing any significant weakening, but the section on hit points and healing also lays out that character death occurs at 0 hit points AND zero hit dice. I expect player characters to be defeated more often than they are in base 5e, and for them to face significant setbacks as a result of that, but for those setbacks to have space to be more than simply death. That said, there are also rules enabling going out in a blaze of glory so that the option remains on the table.
Likewise, you'll note that a character only regains consciousness at the END of their next turn after brought back above 0, and even that can be conditional if they're only barely above 0, so you want to actually keep people up instead of playing whack-a-mole.
Thanks for bringing this up, actually. I only just caught that the section on knocking a creature out cuts off mid-sentence due to an editorial oversight.
>>95971313>>95971363I meant to attach this screenshot, but I was too busy opening up the file to fix that oversight in Knocking a Creature Out.

Inspired by the Dolmantle in Prophet, I had this idea for a Ranger subclass I'm tentatively called Xenobond Hunter; The main gimmick being that your Xeno-Symbiote gives you and feeds off your psionic energy and you could expend your psionic dice to active certain abilities with it.
Problem is, the UA psion kind of took the wind out of my sail with the Flesh Warper.
Now I'm at a lost trying to imagine abilities for it that properly suit the Ranger and would be worth the meta currency

>>95971754While true, the whole turn your body into weapons bit seems one dimensional but then, that's a failure of the Ranger's class identity when your only stand out class feature is hunter's mark

>>95971785Yeah. They're thin for Magic players to be able to see each other's cards. For Dnd players ask the store owner to push them together so you have a wider table, and you'll put them back afterward. If you aren't fat, he'll probably say yes.

my comfortable spot is long dungeon sessions and lots of combat encounters and difficult puzzle scenarios for the party, but the group wants to try out something different so they're proposing a more narrative/intrigue game after we finish this megadungeon. In other games I've played, regardless of whatever different background stuff is happening in a sandbox, the party tends to pick one thread and follow that to completion e.g if there is a dragon in the mountain, an evil lord in the next city, and an evil cult in the forest, even if they might be happening simultaneously the party will basically pick one to resolve at a time. From a sandbox intrigue perspective, doesn't that eventually become a nightmare to track (and kind of boring for the DM) trying to resolve what happens? Basic example, I'm thinking an intrigue based campaign with a premise like this:
>king is assassinated with no clear succession line
>2-3 major claimants to the throne start a war
>hostile forces take advantage of the civil war
>party is in the middle, they are free to take actions to support or undermine any of the interested parties, or keep to themselves since monsters and bandits still exist even in the middle of a civil war
So if I want to lean into the political intrigue with the webs of relationships and motivations, what's a simple non-painful way for me to track how the actions of the party affect the decisions of the other forces they're not directly interacting with?
>>95973954One of the things I'm going for is that different cybernetic attachments change different body parts into metal. So when someone takes rocket legs, their legs become silver metal.
I have attachments for left arm (energy cannon), right arm (shapeshift hand), chest (improved armor), hips (super speed), legs (rockets), top of head (super reflexes). I also have attachments for each eye, and another for the next and lower-jaw.
I have some storyline stuff for the different attachments, but one PC can also just take a bunch of different things to make nearly their entire selves into metal.
And since I'm doing the miniatures for it, it'll be fun to repaint things over and over to make their person more and more silvery.
I'm trying to track down a 5e adventure that was created by one of the artists working at WotC around the time of Rage of Demons, Ravenloft, Volo's Guide.
The adventure takes place in a small town where some of the residents are under thrall of a mindflayer.
The adventurer's are hired by the thralls to locate someone's missing daughter, who may be discovered to be the only sane resident.
The artist described his style in a foreword or appendix: he always draws the skull first and then hangs the flesh on it.
The PDF was either free or I got it here from one of the links in the old general thread.
>>95971046Are barbarians called berserkers now?
>>95973493>crit fail on a 19If that happens you picked a fight you couldn't win to begin with.
>>95971046>Pact Magic has been reworked to use a number of magic points equal to your class level, which are regained on a short rest. Casting a spell with pact magic requires a number of points equal to the spell's level. This is an order of magnitude worse than vanilla. Literally the entire point of Warlocks is that spells are automatically upcast at no extra charge.
>>95972046Int on ranger was part of giving it a more studied approach and to distinguish it from being too "druid lite" in feel. I'll keep an eye on Horizon Walker, though the need to hit something with an attack to mark it as your prey does mean that the benefits of a lot of those features tend to be delayed by one turn.
>>95974429Yeah, in large part because the idea of a warrior's trance doesn't make sense as solely the province of less civilized people. Cรบ Chulainn existed in a fairly well-defined society, and I like having berserkers from those societies as much as I like having barbarian warriors who do things other than trance.
>>95974472If you do the math, you still end up with enough points to equal two slots of your highest available level up to level 10, at which point you work your way up to the point equivalents of three and four slots. You can still cast two spells of your highest available level, but you also have added versatility to cast, say, two lower-level spells and one spell of your highest level. Rarely is it the case that having more options is strictly worse than having fewer--assuming, as is the case here, that the larger set includes all the options of the smaller set.
>>95974982As a level 5 Warlock, I can cast two level 3 spells. In your system, however, a level 5 Warlock would only have 5 magic points and therefore could only cast 1 level 3 spell.
>>95975029You're right, I was off by one level. You'd be able to cast one level 3 spell and one level 2 spell, or two level 2 spells and one level 1 spell. At even-numbered levels, however, you'd be able to match base 5e warlock OR be more versatile. Between that increased versatility and the Malediction feature, not to mention short rests taking only 15 minutes, having one of your "slots" lag by a single class level is more than made up for. It's certainly nowhere near an order of magnitude worse, and is far less punishing when you find yourself needing to cast a spell that doesn't upscale.
>>95975064>short rests taking only 15 minutesfor what reason other than to mirror 4e mechanics?
>>95974472>>95975029>sorlock is considered cheesy because it can convert warlock slots into more lower-level spell slots>anon here in this thread complaining that a more efficient of that being a baseline class feature would be an order of magnitude worse than normal warlockdo people on this website even read their own posts
>>95975095>>95975064It's not just at odd levels. A 12th level Warlock can cast three level 5 spells. But in your system, he could only cast two. I'm telling you, you didn't think this through enough. Why would someone want to play your system if it makes the class worse in any way?
>>95975138but anon, you can flex your spells and cast 12 lv 1 spells
>>95975158Three turns worth of Burning Hands does not equal a single extra Fireball.
How much worldbuilding is too much worldbuilding pre campaign if the majority of it is done as a personal hobby when bored
>>95975488I mean, if you're doing it for fun I guess you could do as much as you want? Just be alright with the fact that you might not end up using all or even most of it.
>>95973452Pathfinder is just shit. Theyโre just copying 3.5 with even more rules bloat to try and appear different. If you want something different to 5e there are plenty of rules light d20 games that arenโt trying to nostalgia bait. But why would you when everyone knows 5e?
>>95975088To mirror the 3.5 Tome of Battle mechanics. With maneuvers being made baseline for all martials and superiority dice returning on a short rest, an hour becomes a very awkward time unit. Besides, when you're actually in shape, fifteen minutes to catch your breath is a much more reasonable approximation of what a short rest would entail.
>>95975138I've absolutely thought it through and playtested it over several years. This isn't theory being pulled out of my ass, this is stuff that I've worked through with players at the table. The 15-minute short rest is a significant power boost to warlocks, enough so that the slight hit on odd-numbered levels in the first half of the game is more than made up for by always being ready for any encounter. Utility and non-scaling spells are much less punishing when they don't cost as much as your highest-level spell, which means that the warlock gets to explore more gameplay roles. A smoother power curve past 10th level is more or less necessary at that point--a wizard doesn't get his third 5th-level spell slot until 18th level, so the warlock having three 5th-level spells in every encounter from 12th level on, with Mystic Arcanum keeping exact pace with wizard's higher-level spell slots until 19th level, would just be too much. As it is, three short rests a day lets a warlock match a wizard's slots at 12th level, if that's what he wants to do, while still having access to more versatility in the configurations in which he casts. Base 5e warlock needs four one-hour short rests to have the same number of spell slots as a wizard at 12th level.
But, as I say in the introduction to the material, I make no claims that this will be perfect for every table. I can tell you that everyone who has tried this version has vastly preferred how it plays to base warlock.
>>95975562What I do is 10 minute short rests but a limited number of times per long rest. Usually 3 but 2 works just as well. 1 hour breaks are way too long but I donโt want warlocks to have essentially per encounter spells.
>>95975562>As it is, three short rests a dayis there a limit? with 15 minutes of short resting that's absolutely enough time to rest pretty much whenever.
>>95975562>the warlock having three 5th-level spells in every encounter from 12th level on, with Mystic Arcanum keeping exact pace with wizard's higher-level spell slots until 19th level, would just be too muchI'm not interested in playing homebrew rules that limit my class in any way. Outside of egregious balancing mistakes by WOTC, I don't see why anyone would.
>three short rests a day lets a warlock match a wizard's slots at 12th levelPlayers don't like short resting, and I don't think that reducing the time it takes helps all that much. If you want to fix Warlock, Eldritch Master should be a level 10 ability.
>>95975997>Players don't like short resting, and I don't think that reducing the time it takes helps all that much.I run 10 minute short rests and you are dead wrong, players short rest ten times as often and that's not hyperbole.
>>95976521If players have enough hit dice to top reasonably keep going after presumably a bunch of encounters where they spent SR resources and got damaged, wouldn't you say you could maybe afford to punch their faces a little harder?
>>95976553It has nothing to do with resource management anon, it has to do with time management. Players will call it a day after taking a tickle, full HD in the tank, because an hour and 8 hours are not appreciably different unless you're under a strict time crunch. With a 10 minute break you don't have to worry as much about a patrol finding you for example.

Since space clowns are chaotic evil fiends, do they respawn in some layer of the abyss if they die in any other plane like other demons would?
>>95976955They were originally mortals/humanoids who were corrupted by fiendish influences, so I guess not. They aren't from the Outer Planes, so they don't have a 'home' to return to in the Abyss.
That's not to say that the spirits of dead Space Clowns couldn't find some way to congregate in the Abyss and set up a circus-themed home layer.
What they do there is anyone's guess. I don't suppose there are many wizards or cultists who specifically go around summoning Space Clowns.

>>95978340personally i love tough because i love stacking HP, and barb is going to get hit a lot so the more HP the better, but lucky might not be too bad because its just a good feat. the issue tho, is that if youre reckless attacking, my initial read is that it'd just grant the enemy a straight roll against you, or you'd be using lucky in place of your reckless, so its a little harder to justify using. it might be useful for Toppling though, using lucky to grant disadv for that might be good
savage attacker might be nice, but i dont really care for rerolling dice for damage but it'll bring up your damage by a bit

>>95990432Do you mean you wish the game had been designed that way to start with? Because you can just homebrew it to work that way if you want.
>>95990468>Do you mean you wish the game had been designed that way to start with?Yea, or the system could have been implemented with 5.5e while introducing their new crafting system
>Because you can just homebrew it to work that way if you want.I have, 3.5e and pf1e do a lot of the heavy lifting
>>95990387 In what order would you acquire these rings if you wanted all 10?
Fire first and then...?
>>95990496poison first, then fire because it is common, then cold for cold weather travel.
then
>are you often fighting undead or necormancers?necrotic. then
>are you fighting farm realm bastards?>psychic>otherwisemaybe thunder or acid?
>>95989509Next is the time to name your character. Now think of a name. The classic DnD name is any name you want. Now take your pencil and write down the name. Now drop your pencil.
Next we introduce each other. Now tell your name.
>>95989330Then maybe next time specify you meant 5.5 and not 5e in the 5e thread.
>>95989913check out fizban's. they have a ton of really good magic items for defense.
>>95990432I disagree vehemently. The more limited number of magic items per character incentivizes you to give out fewer but higher-impact items, rather than every PC jangling when they walk. Definitely one of the things I prefer about 5e over 3.5. Got really fucking tired of everyone insisting on anklets of translocation on every character.
Has anyone used the Humblewood campaign setting?
It looks cute and Iโm considering buying it and forcing my players to make their own fursonas.
>>95991263Yiff in hell furfag. Your ilk never should have been allowed to stay.
>>95989392Can you please type like a human being?
>>95991315What can I say. Bloomburrow was cute and I want a splatbook for it. If WotC wonโt give me one then this will do.
>>95980325We vary our games. I was playing Dark Heresy for about a year and half before coming back to 5e.
>>95983699>150gp AND an equal share of all the lootOne or the other, mate.
>>95991451Of course not. What if the loot is bupkis?
This isnโt charity, itโs a business arrangement. They need to see a guaranteed return on their time for working.

HWYB Shao Khan from MK9 and MK11?
I've read anything from Conquest pally to the usual hexblade and barb multi. Also races like Goliath and some kind of half-dragonborn. But what's your take guys?
>>95991484>What if the loot is bupkis? That's called risk. Same as the one everyone else is taking.
>>95991022Magic items are either god-tier or a meme, causes a lot of drama at tables
>>95991484>>95991603How about "Whichever is higher"?
>>95968495 (OP)Anyone else think that dashing sovers too much ground? I played another rpg where a dash is half your movememnt again, and it felt a lot more tacticle and satisfying. You not being able to zoom 60 feet base, or easily 80-100 with perks/racials/common magic
>>95990573Welcome. This might be your first time ever playing D&D, and if so, that's great. Don't worry if you have no idea what a character sheet or any of these weirdly shaped dice are โ we're all here to learn together.
Now, this campaign module goes until level 4, so think about what your subclass will be, unless of course you're planning a 2/2 multiclass or something else exotic that meant you won't gain one.
They need to make slavery legal again but you can't make them do work and you have to treat them well, you can just make them play games with you.
>>95991263Haven't used it, only reviewed the subclasses (didn't much care for) and the species (which I mostly thought were solid). Check it out on 5etools and buy if you like it.
>>95991355It's quite clear by this point that no, they can't.
>>95991815That called your sister's kids. You can get them to play basically any game with you.
I think enabling alternate rules for feats via downtime activities was a mistake. My Cleric is being a weirdo.
What is the most helpful class and build to have on your team with the lowest skill requirement?
>>95992452i don't want to play with kids. I DONT WANT TO PLAY WITH KIDS!!!
>>95993087Well, slaves is a tall order. But if you play with your sisters kids, they'll eventually become adults you can play with and they'll even know the rules.
>still no good idea for sunday session
HAAA
>>95990368This is why body piercings are important to martials.
Do you typically give your characters a surname or are you more of a first name / nickname only kind of player?
>>95994384First name + nickname or trade, unless I'm playing a noble or something.
>>95968495 (OP)Is there any good monk tank build? I will start level 5
>>95995112>is there a good monk buildno
>>95995112>Is there any good monk tank build?yes, it gets a bit weaker at 5th level but
>action: dodge>bonus action: punchYou can do this, for free, but once you hit 5th you'll have to spend a ki point to make at least 2 attacks.
>>95989267it could potentially deal 300 damage though, if it hit a tarrasque and it failed the save somehow.
>>95989392you're a fucking sperg and don't deserve to play D&D with cute women.
Where's a good place to find cute women who play D&D?
>>95995112Yes, get a 5.5e monk to 7 for Evasion, 13 for Deflect Energy, and 14 for Disciplined Survivor
What is a good statblock to use for a pimp enemy?
>>95995151>Where's a good place to find cute women who play D&D?The kind of women who play D&D aren't the kind you really want to date. I'm still not convinced women get anything from the game other than attention.
>>95995487>Reposting this as if it's not Gygax telling on himself
>>95995619I found the triggered femoid
>>95995632I bet you've ranted about how all women are horrible and none will date you.
>>95995646I'm married with children, just like Gygax.
Just scheduled a game with my friends and family :3
What are the funnest magic items and what should I use my 3 attunements for?
Turns out one of my friends is a "that guy"
>character obsessed with getting rich to the detriment of the party
>the moment loot is revealed he yells "I take all the gold"; fair share doesn't cross his mind
>every NPC we save, he asks "where's your gold" or "give me more gold or I'll let you die" or something similar
>won't contribute to decisions or sometimes combat if there's no gold for him personally; other rewards be damned
>devil gave the party a wish, he ignores party deliberation and states he wants to have the most gold in the world; now vomits gold or blood contingent on CON save
>>95995487I think some of them find some creative fulfillment. Or artistic. But yeah I'm sure a lot play for attention. I got my ex to play D&D and she just enjoyed casting flame strike over and over, I figured she'd prefer to roleplay but no she wanted to kill monsters with flame strike.
>>95996138>devil gave the party a wish, he ignores party deliberation and states he wants to have the most gold in the world; nowwhy is everyone else enabling him?
>>95996720After our last session, we had an out-of-game talk with him about how extreme he's being with his character's "goal"
As for the devil bit, think of it like that scene from Dragonball and Oolong jumps in front of the dragon and just yells out "I wish for panties".
The party was figuring out the exact wording of our wish (because devilish twisting of words) and my friend just yells out his gold wish and the devil goes "okay!" with glee.
I don't blame my DM for this because any devil would love for such an open ended request.
>>95996733>don't blame my DMok, but he's directly responsible for not stopping everything up till this point.
I hope the player is at least self-aware.
>>95996744>I hope the player is at least self-aware.Nope, at least not until we brought it up.
He pulled the "it's what my character would do" card initially but I'm hoping he's aware of it now.
Whether he'll change is another matter.
>>95968495 (OP)I was making a charactern in dnd Beyond. Race variant human gives me +1 for two AS, and noble background should give me +2 +1 to either strength, Charisma or intellectual, but, when in choose the Noble background, it doesn't let me choose the ASI of Variant Human.
Why?
I'm using the legacy race Variant Human
>>95996911If you're using background ASIs, you don't get racial ASIs.
Are you stupid?
I want to run games where the players are scoundrels in the old hardboiled pulp sense. Sessions would be episodic one shots of different jobs: gunrunning, heists, navigating the authorities... I want to keep the tone mercenary and maverick. Staying ahead of the law is never something that can be achieved for certain, intrigue and complications will arise organically without cliche heist-movie style double-triple crosses.
Does anyone have experience running this sort of play? How can the desperate tone be maintained?
>tfw you get set up for a cool line
>and you don't blow it
What sort of things would a Goblinkin Lawful Evil empire outlaw
>>95997046Do they have a religious caste or sect of society? If it's ingrained into the culture I would imagine any perceived slight against them could be pretty damning.
>>95997046https://web.archive.org/web/20250128000240/https://www.project2025.org/policy/
>>95997046Make very specific laws that clearly allude to something that a retarded gobbo did once that ended in disaster
>>95996173They're just wired differently. Not always a bad thing but I don't have women in my long term games.
>>95996911Because you're using 2024 character creation rules.
>>95997046>...henceforth, all public displays of affection are punishable by being tossed in the ooze pit...>>95997165This one is a trope, but a very good one depending on your campaign/game tone and the specific law that the PCs happen to accidentally break.
>>95997046if you go with the 'goblins hate dogs' thing, Dogs could be illegal
