>Thread Question:Are you feeling better about terrain and vehicle rules?
I'm torn on what colors to make the cables (red in picrel) on my cobbled together venator.
Should I make them glow? If so, what color?
My Kratos already has glowing Volkite and imo glowing bits work best in extreme moderation.
Should I just have the cables be an assortment of normal colors? Maybe like the cables on the saturnine dread guns?
>>95968861 (OP)TQ
>Be me>Run all infantry melee army>Rules constantly shit on Melee armies>Somehow even vehicle transports look like they're nerfedNo, not feeling good about this edition. It all feels like change for changes sake and no real balancing. The only balancing honestly feels accidental.
>>95968882Hazard stripes, of course. With a few basic black/red cables to give them some contrast.
>>95968861 (OP)>95968668 #Thanks m8. And thanks to Leaker Anon again.
Still gotta meditate on the Vehicle rules.
1. Rip Ramming routing tests
2. Vehicle damage charts works the opposite it has always worked (only glance cause debuffs)
3. Vehicles may never do dangerous terrain tests, because they cannot enter terrain at all
4. Sponson guns now always count as Defensive. Meaning they can React even if they are lascannons (yay), but cannot cover for your Main Gun anymore (rip). Wait, I guess that isn't rolled for anymore is it
5. If you split fire, your main gun sucks. So, don't ever do it โ not really worth it. Just don't shoot with the out-of-sight gun.
>>95968882Cables are a good chance for contrasting colours. Pull up the colour wheel and go with what's opposite of the main colour/s of your tonk.
>>95968882Glowing wires would be a pretty bad sign.
Can't go wrong with a yellow stripped cables next to some red or black cabling. Most wiring has several colors to communicate their purpose
>>95968916Despite the name, defensive weapons don't impact reactions at all, both return fire and overwatch make no mention of it and nothing the vehicle rules says you can't react with battle weapons either. The only rule that Interacts with defensive weapons is vehicle split firing.
As for snapfiring the main gun, that doesn't seem too bad anymore for marines at least, since you still hit on a 5+ and blast weapons scatter on only 1d6 if they miss now IIRC. Speaking of which, leaker anon, might we see movement rules and scatter rules?
>>95968861 (OP)No, new edition honestly is really disappointing me. I am sure it's will be a perfectly fine game, in the same sense that modern 40k is a perfectly fine game.
But it's just not what I got into 30k for.
It's clearly just 3 year churn cycle now, and lots of things in this ed are becoming much more gamified and abstract, and less like an actual bunch of your dudes fighting it out on a battlefield.
Maybe I'm just old, but it's actually disheartening.
do you go in looking for extra special stls expecting most stuff to have been uploaded by someone? made my first pass over for a handful of my special legion shit but still coming up blank on stuff like sevatar
>>95968910>>95968920>>95968917Thanks for the feedback fellas, I think I'll base it off the cables on the saturnine after all.
>>95968910damn that's crisp
>>95968970Yeah individual cables are always good way to add some color and maybe show off effort.
>>95968962I'm going to be honest anonymous sevatar isn't that special he's got maybe a slightly fancier helmet and a big rock. You can almost certainly digibash something as cool or better. The bigger problem is that night lords stls all look retarded, the same problem as every other legion who doesn't have a dedicated autist who actually bothers printing their shit like the raven guard or death guard guys.
>>95968890>You WILL field lascannon hss you WILL buy the new dreadnought you WILL field the all lascannon land raider
>>95968890Are land raiders and spartans unstoppable beasts that cant be killed before they unload their cargo or are melee deathstars absolutely worthless?
Can you doomers pick a fucking lane?
>>95969021>all lascannon land raiderCome on, James, everything needed is already in the kit. Just give it rules.
>>95969003i just meant official gw by special, prob not wrong in that it would be good practice to try and throw my own together(or simpler to find a preexisting one)
the latter point is annoying as fuck though the range of ways people will interpret night lords aesthetics makes it such a nightmare to find and sort out anything, i see the damsa name floating around a lot but i think i got to the party too late for any of his shit to still be online
>>95968861 (OP)The disintegration cannon looks the best on that dreadnought but it seems like the worst option. If it misses it overheats and if it overheats it seems a pretty good chance of blasting a chunk out of the dreadnought. With 2 shots it can really go wrong (which it will, eventually, and probably quickly).
That grav gun will probably end up being the best with the forced pinning
>>95968890Their ramming may be nerfed, but that's about it: Land Raiders will be nigh impossible to stop before they deliver their cargo.
Rhinos just went from disposable mobile bunkers to actual transports, even if the price is disordered charges.
Rest in fucking pieces Reserve actions though. They shall be missed. Except drop pods; nobody ever took them
>>95969110>>Land Raiders will be nigh impossible to stop before they deliver their cargo>Good luck I'm behind 1 crater
>>95969117>Cataphractii are fine with not counting their initiative for Set up moves>It is worth it for that +1 Cool
Does any kinda Anon have the audiobook for Know No Fear that they're willing to share?
LEAKER ANON
I HAVE BROUGHT YOU THE DEAD IRON WARRIOR YOU DEMANDED
NOW GIVE UNTO ME THE MOVEMENT RULES THAT I DESIRE
>>95969037Both can be true depending on the lethality of melee and shooting in the edition.
>>95969206afaik its free in the internets, i've seen torrents of it as well.
findaudiobook.app/warhammer-40k-know-no-fear-audiobook/
>>95968882>>95968920>>95968970For those tiny cables that GW likes to sculpt, I really like to just paint with with a nice metallic copper and a simple brown wash. I'm looking at one of the nipple guns of the Imperial Knight that has this.
For larger big tubes like this, hazard stripes are always loved, alternating with red. Be careful not to pick a colour that stands out too much and distracts from the paint job.
>>95969300Oh thanks. I had found that one, but I thought it was a newer 40k novel with the same name because of the cover image.
>>95969222Is that a Warjack? I've always felt like Cryx models would be amazing for Darkmech conversions
>>95969222Wtf decimate urself
>>95969222Everyone knows dead Imperial Fists make the best foundations.
>>95969549Nah, looks like an AT/LI scale knight Acastus Porphyrion
With the new FOC, how many librarians can I take (assuming the point values stay the same) in a 2500 point list
>>95969965Actually a lot, especially if you can still do a psyker praetor
>>95969965You can have 4 in your Primary Detachment (plus Praetor), 2 in the Officer Cadre, 2 more as Benefits, and then 3 per Allied Detachment (2 + 1 Benefit) as many times as you wish (they just have to be from different Factions).
>>95970042Do allied detachments all need to be different factions to each other, or just different to the primary detachment?
>>95970097I don't remember the wording, but I hazard a guess that each being from a different faction would be the thing. What would even be the point otherwise? It'd make Allies far less restricted than the main Detachment.
>>95968882Glossy black cables would look nice
>>95970097The only limits seems to be "different faction from Primary" and "as long as you donโt spend more than 50% of your points on allied units over all."
>>95970042Hmm..exploding pyromancer psyker list here we come!
apparently the new pods are outsourced to china since it's "terrain" so the details are way less sharp than mainline production
https://taleofpainters.com/2025/06/review-space-marines-drop-pods-2025-version/
>>95970311The plastic looks darker with those giant gates so does seem like the terrain sprues
>>95967022Agreed holy shit. TLOS has been a cancerous boil on the hobby's arse for almost two decades and it's finally fucking dead. No more hunching over the table like a fucking geriatric. No more arguing with That Guy that actually no, it isn't "modelling for advantage" to base your commander without GW's latest ridiculous fucking 2" tall tactical rock microdiorama on there. No more almost getting blinded because the tourneyshitters decided the only way they could stop arguing amongst themselves to the point the game became unplayable was to start blasting laser pointers around the gaming club like a fucking rave. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
>>95970340I just wish they would have brought back proximity based wound allocation.
Hate the WAACfags so much for making changes like this necessary.
>>95970311>ChyinaCuck Workshop
>>95969965Librarians? They are banned because of the edict of Nikaea, I will field many wolf priests however who use the pure and untainted power of Fenris. For the allfather and Russ!
>>95970311So, the "optional" part of the rubble is just the stuff on the doors and there's still gonna be some around the base of the pod?
Put together some more Legiones Auxilia.
>>95970311>One of the doors had to be cut in half because they didn't put the drop pod in the centre of the sprue. This vexes me.
>>95970311Holy fucking shit that is horrible.
>>95969222Oh that's a nice tech priest conversion. I was wondering what it was for a few moments.
I'm not well versed in Horus Heresy and 40K lore, is there anything about the 40K AdMech, style-wise or lore-wise that wouldn't fly during the Heresy? I'm thinking about using some of the new Servitors and that Technoarcheologist and the Servitor Underseer.
Any weapons that are off-limits?
>>95970611The core Ad-Mech range (Tech Priests, Skitarii, Sicarian, Dune Crawlers, ect) should all fit with the 30k Mechanicum, because they are mentioned in multiple books and sources and were used in the Great Crusade.
The weirder looking Ad-mech stuff like the Electro-Priests, Serberys and Archaeopter don't really fit as 30k Mechanicum is more body horror than silly designs.
Unfortunately most of the 40k stuff doesn't have rules in 30k (although that might be changing soon), so the only 40k models you can use that have rules are the Techpriests.
>>95970611These are fine, you might need to add a power axe to the magos however since that's their loadout
>>95970311>Also, because of the smaller footprint, tournament players might need to make a switch to the new version to stay legal.Pay up piggies.
>>95970611>I'm thinking about using some of the new Servitors and that Technoarcheologist and the Servitor Underseer. They should all be good to use. The Servitors could be used as Scyllax.
>>95970665I thought those guys would fit better as servo automata.
Scyllax feels too defined visually for them to proxy like that.
>>95968890>Overspecialize>Get punished when the rules don't accidentally favor you.
>>95970665>>95970723Yeah use them as servo automata, using them as scyllax is retarded
>>95970769Unless you're playing a hyper-competitive game it's usually still possible to win with what the internet likes to call sub-optimal lists. Provided you understand the game good enough. I've played infantry heavy lists in all of HH 1.0, and fuck me was it tough, but I stuck with it and learned what to do to still have a decent win rate.
>>95970311calling it now, GW is moving production of tanks and other things people would print on FDM to china.
Good source for dead marines for bases?
Had some more time to work on this guy. As per recommendation I filed down the trim, especially on the pauldrons.
In light of the comment last time I also put the model between some other consuls, both old and new, to see if there were any actual size issues, but I'm not seeing anything particularly egregious.
>>95969549>>95969918Partially you're both right: it's a Ligma Porphyphion, but a portion of the right arm is taken from the Kodiak and the left arm is from a Man o War.
>>95968916>Rip Ramming routing testsWhat angers me the most is that every vehicle does the same d6 S6 hits. Tank shock could totally force a cool test, and the hits be Str (front AV/2), +1S if the vehicle has a dozer blade, with the usual caveats +1S if it has more HP than the other vehicle, +1S if it's a building or superheavy
>>95969102Yeah I wish Overload (2) was it being triggered on a 2-, not it doing 2 hits when it gets triggered
>>95971245Modern games workshop doesn't test its users to be able to divide AV13 by 2. All rules are designed around being simple enough for 8 year olds or the british.
>>95968947It's part of the main Reactions rules, under "Using Reactions"
>models with the Vehicle Type may only attack with Defensive WeaponsHowever now that sponsons are always defensive weapons regardless of strength this is far less limiting than it was previously.
>>95971261this would carry more weight if it wasn't coming from the thread that still thinks stats and probability are the same thing
>>95971272it's such a strange bias in HH rules. Running lascannons sprinting full speed get to react with 100% of the unit pretended-to-be-stationary, but tanks are artificially gimped from using their main gun, the main gun which is the primary thing that would be 3-axis stabilized on a tank to be able to fire while driving around - and which weighs a tiny fraction of the tank's weight unlike the lascannon being held by a marine.
Finished Era of Ruin. Unsurprisingly Wraight's story was the best one. Most of the others were okay but not something I expect I'll think back on much.
>MEGAs are down for the time being, going to wait for things to cooldown with the new edition and leaks before bringing them back up
Good. And we will continue to report it if it bring back useless OP bloat.
>>95968916>enter terrain at allWhich include hills, better have a flat mat
>>95971272>I have a sponson-mounted defense laser destroyer>Just like the first-founding fathers wanted
>>95971294It's a very steep hill bro
>>95971297Dreadnoughts trying to charge my spartan are not going to have a good time
>>95971294Nah.
"if the battlefield incorporates distinct plateaus of raised Open Terrain that sit above the main area of the battlefield then it is left to the players to agree and designate if these form a separate level"
RAW outright says players simply choose if hills are open terrain or not open terrain.
>>95969110>Except drop pods; nobody ever took themI took one because my HQ could have one as a dedicated transport. Interceptor is snap shots against non flyers now, hopefully augery doesnt fix that and more pods might be good.
>>95969110I've been using veteran squads in drop pods
>>95971326>"I designate these as hills"
>>95971364"I designate you as only getting to play with yourself"
>>95971284This is exactly the kind of flawed abstraction I hate in 3.0. Immediately house rulling that reactions never count as stationary unless the model is relentless. Reactions should be quick actions, not max benefit actions.
>>95971322Anon pls post AL army shot
>>95971019Why are they on 40mm?
>>95971284It's ultimately an infantry game with skirmish roots.
>>95969102If you snipe out a flamer weapon man there should be a 1 out of 6 chance of hitting the fuel tank and cause a small template explosion on the squad, and if you hit another flame weapon man with it, it should explode too.
>>95971289Chris Wraight is such a solid writer, he is my BL top guy
>>95971424that would work if flamers had an actual fuel tank, but space marine flamers dont have a tank, they have enough fuel for like 1 second of shooting. So all handheld flamers for space marines should be One-Shot Expendable weapons that can never be fired in further turns.
>>95971284Good, the heresy should be infantry focused with a sea of marines
>>95971408'cuz having a bigger base is more aesthetically pleasing when the model has a bunch of crap hanging off of it or carries something awkward like a boarding shield.
>>95971443good way to have warhammer30k cancelled by GW. Looking at space marines, 23 non-infantry boxes they want people to buy and 9 infantry boxes. When GW chooses to make tanks not worth purchasing, they are choosing to cancel warhammer30k. Stores will no longer stock it and only a dozen retarded grogs will continue playing it by themselves.
>>95971440Ok for fuel tank flamers only, like the imperial guard ehm I mean imperial milita ones and solar aux
>>95971498>good way to have warhammer30k cancelled by GWThey already cancelled themselves by going woke with femstodes and lapping it up to Blackrock.
>>95971406Still haven't gotten round to doing an updated full army shot, awful lot of life been happening :(
>>95971525I will wait until one day, I am here forever
>>95969062>everything needed is already in the kitDon't they only come with two lascannons per sponson or is it the exact same sprue as the spartan? I don't remember having leftover pieces when I built mine.
>>95971290>He's actually doing it for freeHoly shit I believed it was just a meme.
>>95970311actually fucking pathetic
>>95971284Really there's no issue with vehicles reacting with every fun available, is there? They are already limited by firing arcs after all.
If you don't want to get hit by four Lascannons, charge that Land Raider from the side instead of the front?
But if you charge a Vindicator from the front, you gonna get Demolished
>>95970611Before the Heresy, there was only the Mechanicum. The Fabricator-General of Mars sided with Horus and Loyalist elements fled to Terra, becoming the Adeptus Mechanicus proper. Outside of Sol, most forgeworlds still identify as Mechanicum.
>>95971284>Running lascannons sprinting full speed getI'm tired of this meme. And the reason is that HSS lascannons aren't even in the same class as the kind of main weapons some tanks can carry. Imagine if you could react with superheavy turret guns.
>>95971332>Interceptor is snap shots against non flyers nowNooo. Interceptor wasn't really that bad. What was bad was Augury scanners being unlimited. But it'd be nice that it was specified interceptor hits the drop pod and not the disembarking unit
>>95971856When the loyalist Mechanicum lobbied to be formally recognized as an Adeptus (by walking their titans to the palace), this meant renouncing to a part of the independence (granted by the Treaty of Olympus), so long as the Imperium would agree to: 1) Recognize the new Martian government-in-exile as the official one, and 2) fund a crusade to retake Mars after the heresy.
But by becoming an Adeptus, if Kane wanted to rule the other forgeworlds, they had to become Adeptus Mechanicus. Or else they would be Mechanicum still, and that makes them Hal's. Which would mark them as enemies of the Imperium, and get The Lion unleashed on them.
So all loyalist Mechanicum became Adeptus Mechanicus, and all who remained Mechanicum are now referred to as Dark Mechanicum.
>>95971856>Loyalist elements fled to Terra, becoming the Adeptus MechanicusAnd they made the Collegia Titanica a separate entity after that Imperator marched on the palace, right?
>>95971872>Imagine if you could react with superheavy turret guns. You should be able to react with superheavy turret guns. But it would follow the regular caveat that superheavies can only react to other, fellow superheavies.
Should a Glaive react to a Titan? Fuck yeah it should.
>>95971848Given they're nerfing deep strike and dropping the game to 4 turns, I'm not sure how many chances you'll get to maneuver that far.
>You want me to impose the Imperium on innumerable worlds across the galaxy? Sure thing, space dad!
>But I have one condition.
>My homeworld must be off limits from the Imperium.
>Sure, it's an irradiated hellscape where nobody has enough to eat or drink and there's a constant threat of dying to monsters and mutants.
>But as bad as that is, it's still better than being an ordinary citizen of the Imperium.
>Anyway, let's get going. Time to conquer some planets!
>>95971877Interceptor, even one, on a HSS deletes arriving infantry. Its too hard of a counter. Yes I know DS was to strong but that shoudnt mean TWO extremes exist. Now3.0 you cant charge out of DS then interceptor should not delete arriving units. Im sure pods wont allow charges specifically too.
>>95971986I suppose that gives a unique value to faster elements like Bikes and Assault marines.
Got my Rapiers today, did they always have bases?
>>95972013I always thought it was folly for infantry to arrive naked and unprotected before the enemy castle. It was like asking for death, and they'd get what they were asking for.
All the outflanks I did were aboard Rhinos and Land Raiders. 20 IF BS5 Autocannons HSS killed my LR on arrival.
And that was fine. It was more than 500 pts of S-class HSS against less than half their points of average Land Raider. They SHOULD kill it. Imagine how useless they'd be if they didn't.
That said, I am against unlimited free intercepts. At least Snapshots got better, so there's that. But it'd be nice to spend a Reaction Point to do a full BS intercept
>>95972032Nope, that's new. What size? I'm gonna have to order bases for my rapiers.
Question about transfers that I'm struggling to find in the libers and black books
Is there some kind of difference between icons that are filled or not filled out, or is it just an aesthetic thing mostly that doesn't have lore implications?
Also is it more common to have coherent iconography across a squad (all marines have their icon on their shoulder or the same colour etc.) or would it be more "realistic" for there to be a mix of iconography that still technically communicates the same information (some marines have their role icon on their shoulder while some have it on their kneepad, some have it in a white colour while some have it black etc.)
>>95972118I'm 99.9% sure its just aesthetics.
>Also is it more common to have coherent iconography across a squad (all marines have their icon on their shoulder or the same colour etc.) or would it be more "realistic" for there to be a mix of iconography that still technically communicates the same information (some marines have their role icon on their shoulder while some have it on their kneepad, some have it in a white colour while some have it black etc.)I don't know about a fluff-based answer but I think if you're going to the trouble of adding squad markings to your models, they should be relatively consistent;y placed, no?
>>95972118Is the squad standard? Same iconography
Is the squad ad hoc? Differing iconography
>>95972051Its not an enemy castle, its a snap shot of a battlefield. Its fast paced desperate warfare in the wilderness or ruins of a city. Teleport strikes are dangerous because of how sudden and effective they are.
>They SHOULD kill it. Imagine how useless they'd be if they didn'tOn their turn, sure, but on the owners turn? That shit sucks. If this is an IGOUGO format, it should be give and take. Reactions were overtuned in 2.0. Its a prime example of disparate impact; a seemingly equal item that does not equally affect all. Spamming HSS with augeries and MoS made it so armies had to march to get to you and get shot to ribbons. Agian, DS in 2.0 was too much, but if it is now once per turn, no charges, then that unit should NOT get delete the turn they arrive otherwise why have DS in the game at all?
>>95972134>I'm 99.9% sure its just aesthetics.Good to know
>I don't know about a fluff-based answer but I think if you're going to the trouble of adding squad markings to your models, they should be relatively consistent;y placed, no?I would assume so, but since I'm doing sallies I also have to consider promethean cult flame murals, icons and runes so just wanted to double check first
>>95972135Good rule of thumb, will keep in mind then
>>95971571So the front and back portions of the tank are the same as the spartan, the mid hull and gun sponsons are a different sprue. You get options to build it either as the explorator (no front hatch no hull weapons), or with the front gun turret (either heavy bolters flamers or lascannons) with the option of having it a solid hull or the assault ramp. The sponson sprue you get only allows two twin lascannon sponsons
I personally think its neat how they designed the sprues/builds for the land raider/spartan/typhon etc to share some components. The new horus heresy plastic tanks including the kratos have been an absolute joy for me to build compared to the old plastic land raider kit which happened to be my first 40k tank.
>>95972032I wonder what they will look like on the base, seems like a disadvantage for zone mortalis
>>95972020Sure, but assault marines won't have any guns good enough to make armour facing count, and melee's always back-face.
Bikes might, but it's still a very niche response.
>>95972402>the excellent painting>the undrilled barrelsTruly, no man can be good at both
>>95972402a kind reminder to DRILL YOUR BARRELS
The second squad of kakaphoni done
not my best but im just glad they're done, been sitting in my to-do pile for over a year now
Can move onto to painting something I actually want to paint
>>95972032Oh btw any idea how easy it will be to magnetise the weapons?
>>95972424>>95972429I'LL DRILL A HOLE IN YOUR HEADS BEFORE YOU MAKE ME RUIN MY 3d printed BARRELSA
>>95972020It won't. If they take tank squads and you take bike squads which need to shoot the tanks in the rear to have value, there's zero surprise as lists are public info and no way bikes can ever be a surprise. The tanker player would just put an infantry screen preventing the bikes from a non-zero chance of getting in the rear of the tanks within a tiny 4 turn game.
4 turn games blow massive monkey dick.
>>95972266The tanks, dreadnoughts, and automata have been stellar kits except for castellax.
>>95972615Guns look easy enough, but the ammo crate could be finicky.
>>95972759What I would do is attach a semi-base beneath thats hidden between the tracks to seal the tracks together so you just drop in the gun+gun shield
>>95972000Obviously it's because Sanguinius homeworld is a chaos god shrineworld which is what gives him the physics-defying ability for his wings and future-sight and blood magic.
Hardly surprising when Caliban is a chaos god shrineworld for the dark angels (the chaos entity of Ouroboros is at the heart of a world covered in greater daemons and Kairos Fateweaver and daemon animals)
Fenris is a chaos god shrineworld for the space wolves special chaos magic that has nothing to do with the Emperor.
Vulkan, "supposedly" a perpetual, actually just a pawn of a chaos god on his shrineworld and actually seen in the warp by Magnus as a large chaos dragon creature of fire and not a human, eventually stops getting resurrected and his corpse had to be carried to the chaos shrineworld Nocturne and his #1 champion must perform a chaos ritual sacrificing himself in the volcano at the heart of the chaos shrine to resurrect Vulkan, implying if that chaos shrineworld did not exist, that Vulkan would never have ever come back to life and just been a regular old corpse on Terra.
Morty's planet was obviously a nurgle shrineworld of the undead/diseases and Nuceria a khorne shrineworld (which khorne gave the Anger-Nails instead of magic)
Once you realize that Lion who had already met the chaos gods related to Caliban and grew up alongside Kairos Fateweaver and other greater daemons chose not to go to earth but instead to go destroy each chaos shrineworld billions of miles from the fight, it only makes sense if he'd learned from his own chaos shrineworld that they are crucial to the special abilities of mortarion/angron and the other primarchs.
In 10k years post-heresy the Fallen dedicated a new chaos shrineworld for Lion which is why he can now move through the chaos warp like tuchulcha (telling people it's "forestwalking" not chaos teleportation like the athame chaos daggers) Each shrine gives unique powers so his new powers dont match his old ones.

GW's rules system is the worst on the planet. 3 years is too long to wait to unfuck things that are broken and they use it to justify releasing shitty paper books, but 3 years is too short so they put exactly zero effort into ever making anything good (why would they put the effort into building something when they're gonna delete the codex they made 3 months after they release it?)
Lose-lose system.
>>95968861 (OP)>Are you feeling better about terrain and vehicle rulesI pay very little attention to rules, I just like playing with my army men.
We have yet to see the Libers.
But so far with what you've seen of the rules, could you name something you're eager to try?
Could you also name something you think changed for the worse? If so, why is it? What's the way to "do it right" in your head?
>>95968861 (OP)>Are you feeling better about terrain and vehicle rulesI pay very little attention to rules, I just like playing with my army men.
>vehicle rules?
No.
I never like the pen/glancing system in the first place, it make no sense that doing one better on a dice roll made such a big differance to how effective that attack was. I don't like how vehicles have statuses now and I don't like how you just get one from a glancing hit, I don't like how they make the tank useless dispite them being minor hits. But I'm biased and don't think tanks make much sense in warhammer
>>95973594I think all the major armies (barring fagstodes) getting Libers on release is actually a good sign and a hint they might not be doing as bad a churn as some Anons think.
That said, a spamming a bunch of detachments that are just centurion + fluffy choice seems kino to me.
>>95973594not sure if this was meant for a specific anon, but fuck it, I'll answer:
>could you name something you're eager to try?Honestly, not really. I like some of the ideas (attacks modifier is a stat I've always been down with, but they don't appear to be using it...?) and a few of the units teased seem interesting (different veteran squads, this new command squad, etc).
>Could you also name something you think changed for the worse? Not a fan of how convoluted and yet somehow limiting new force org is, not a fan of deep strike being killed, the shift to make characters even stronger pushes towards herohammer, and the expanded challenge rules seem like they'd be a fun minigame, but they're gonna be way too bloated. Plus, this edition feels like it's going to be even more weighted on shooting.
Also, bit of a pet peeve, but they're renaming absolutely everything, and they don't need to. Running doesn't need to be rushing. Attacks don't need to be Firepower. It's just change for the sake of change, to sell new books.
>>95973252the way I've always seen it, during the heresy, the traitors see themselves as the rightful rulers of the imperium, rather than the imperium's enemy, and would use aquilas, as symbols of the imperium they seek to rule. to Horus, it's just a coup, not a campaign to destroy the imperium.
>>95973594I'm looking forward to assault veterans
About fucking time they made them a generic unit
>something you think changed for the worse?Statuses are not great if they happen at the end of the turn. You can't pin a unit to prevent them from overwatching or returning fire anymore and that sucks
The change to the charge phase also seems kinda pointless in the way you move and fitting a whole other snapshot shooting phase with return fire in there seem really unnecessary. Unless there's some units specialized in doing that better or something like that
>>95973594Whilst the new edition still has the 3rd edition rules system at its core, there have been so many rules taken from all the different editions on top of new changes that it basically is a completely new edition. But there are enough little details which have improved, like no more TLOS for the first time since 4th edition and blasts only hitting one level in a ruin, that I'll definitely give it a good few tries to see how the game plays.
Biggest negative is plasma weapons not being AP 2, that's just wrong.
>already making a tacticool AL centurion
>want to make an RG centurion (or consul) but no clue which direction to take
I like the traitor XVIaboo aesthetic but that feels a little too specific. An RG in heavy armor like mk3 or cata is an interesting subversion but not interesting enough. An armistos with a lascannon and cameleoline?
>>95973594I really like the FOC change. I can't really know for sure until I see what roles units are but I always thought there were too many restrictions on the old one. Rapiers, veterans, apothecaries, techmarines, dreadnoughts, terminators and destroyers don't sound like they should be fighting over the same slot, even with 4 of them I'm always low on those. Termies and dreadnoughts could be in the same type but everything else has a completely different role and was just thrown in there for no reason.
Vehicles squadrons being gone is also great because that was fucking retarded. I think that's going to go a long way in making medium vehicles more viable

>>95973781Imagine organizing a mega battle on a huge board and just treating it like an extended tournament game with randomly scattered terrain, instead of constructing something resembling an actual location and having two armies clash across it. Make actual city blocks with courtyards and streets. An industrial zone where stuff is places like it made sense. Split the table diagonally, so there's more depth to the deployment while also keeping the contested area rather wide to avoid bottlenecks. Nothing looks sadder than two rows of units, 24" apart from one table edge to the other.
>>95973594>you're eager to try?Oddly, flyers. Really hoping they can be interesting this edition. I'm glad reactions got worse.
>changed for the worse?Being able to kill thigns out of LoS/Range if part of the unit was in LS/Range; it was fine already. 40kification where you need only see part of a model and you can potential kill the whole squad is awful abstraction that is overly punishing. We saw LoS rules and you need only see the model. This is too gamey.
Also I hope one unit may only trigger one reaction and "free" reactions are gone wholesale.
Generally I do no like it deviating form the 7e ruleset it was based on. My dream 30k format is 7.9 edition. It only needed reaction limits and nerfs, go back to 1st ed deepstrike but allow charges, and ways to add slots to the FOC for some factions or have FOC scaling.

If I want to play a manchild semi immersive warsim, thats when I want to paint up MyDudes, and have them fight YourDudes in a cool scenario on a cool table, where positioning matters, and it feels like your units are actually doing stuff(tm) instead of the Player activating trap cards.
I can always just play older versions, but this shit isn't even that old to begin with.
>>95974110We're at that strange limbo where we can't discuss 3.0 yet, but discussing 2.0 is pointless
>>95974228Discuss what you liked about 1.0.
I think 1.0 has the best Legion traits, since most of them were based on a legions personality and how that effected their combat doctrines, rather than reading a line in the wiki that says "they were good at X" and then giving them rules to make them good at X, like their 2.0 rules.
>>95972000Dante is so much better than his dad its unreal.
>>95974247All the consumable items were kinda cool
>>95974247Legion traits in 1.0 were cool because they were more fluffy and thoughtful, and balanced positives with drawbacks.
Specifically, the traits (overall) benefit all your dudes, where a lot of 2.0 legion traits revolve around your funny once per game spell card that only one unit gets to use. So it actually felt like your whole force had flavour of the legion, not the Player has a legion brand spell card they can play.
I also liked how squads generally (and particularly basic troops) actively encouraged you to have large blob squads, by having a base squad tax that made large units more cost effective. In 2.0 having models split into more units has no tax, lets you take more special weapons, and lets you mitigate reactions a bit better (of course there are still some downsides, but eh).
Also ap2 pie plates put the fear of god into super expensive units, although they were admittedly themselves way too undercosted/spammable.
>>95974247AL Saboteurs. Man the amount of salt over spartans going boom just because some 100 point dude decides to wander onto the board, glorious.
Vigilators crippling medusa squadrons at the start of the game was great too, fuck your artillery cheese bro.
>>95974247The weapon skill table.
Holy shit, of all the things I like in 1.0, this has to be the top one by a huge margin.
2.0 having all the powerful units have both 2 wounds and a huge defensive boost by being hittable on 5+ against everything except OTHER elite troops was honestly the worst ever fucking change by a country mile.
I want to play 30k to have huge waves of marines duking it out like imperial guard - not 3 elite models killing a dozen basic dudes themselves and taking 1 wound back.
In 1.0, a big assault squad blob could easily become a very scary opponent to an elite termie unit, especially when using some legion/character/ROW buffs.
>>95974288What did the 1.0 WS table look like?
>>95974247>>95974277People suffer from some serious rose-tinted glasses when it comes to HH 1.0 legion traits, good riddance. If you think the balance between the 2.0 traits is bad, you haven't properly played 1.0 kid. FW even had to redo most of the legions that got their rules first, the power creep was that bad.
The drawbacks did add some nice flavour, but ranged from "This isn't even a drawback" to "Holy fucking shit if any of my stuff ends up in combat they're fucked"
It's funny how I've only started hearing people being positive about the 1.0 traits years after the edition ended.
>>95974298If you have higher WS than the other guy, you hit on 3+
If the enemy had higher WS than you (or equal), you just hit on 4+ unless it was A LOT higher, like ws4 vs ws8 or something.
Personally I would do a mid ground and make the 5+ to hit be if there is a 2 WS gap, so there is some more granularity, since hitting on 5+ in 1.0 basically only came up for solo primarchs, and other extreme situations, but overall it just meant melee was much more lethal in general.
2.0/3.0 WS table means the best answer to elite melee units is other elite melee units, which is very gay.
>>95974325Some of the balance was shit of course, I don't hear anyone saying 1.0 was some god tier well balanced game (it had HUGE issues with ap2/ap3 pie plates being omega fucking strong).
But legion traits were FAR more fluffy and interesting. But yes the power scaling between some legion traits was comical, but this is GW so.
>>95974298Basically everything either hit on a 4+, or on a 3+ if the enemy WS was lower. Units only hit on a 5+ if the target's WS was over twice as high, which was -extremely- rare.
It was kinda boring in my opinion, 99.99% of the time you either had to roll a 4+ or a 3+ in close combat. Just give units a 4+/3+ WS like in 40k at that point.
>>95973594I'm looking forward to bringing 9 rifle sections to every game and burying my enemies in lasfire, quad cannons and the corpses of my fallen soldiers.
I'm not looking forward to the marines getting to snapfire on a 5+ while I'm stuck with 6's still.
>>95974339Some legion traits were less than spectacular though. The DA legion trait was the worst, it only gave +1 to hit in close combat if the enemy WS was equal and the DA model was holding a sword-shaped CC weapon.
>>95974326yeah, a 2-step for hitting on 5s feels fair.
>>95974351Gotcha, thanks!
>>95974351Fixed hit chance is fucking retarded. The whole point of the WS system is its a COMPARISON between two parties.
Yes 99% of all hits will be 4+ or 3+, but which one it is depends on who is actually fighting, which is a nuance 40k now lacks.
Giga swordlord mcchapter master hitting on 2+ or 3+ or whatever it is is fine, when he's fighting normal mooks. But if he's fighting a daemon prince, he is outmatched the the WS table helps reflect that, instead of 2 giga characters just hitting each other on 2+.
>>95974369Oh yeah, DA legion rule was fluffy and good though? getting the 3+ to hit in mirror match ups, in a game that is 90% space marines was a huge buff that didn't allow your elite units to bully weaker units more than they already could. Also that was only half of their legion trait? Any unit could also benefit from scion bonuses, which added a lot of flexibility at an actual cost.
Their ROW's on the other hand were completely fucking unhinged though, with some being just a voluntary way to handicap yourself.
>>95969332>For those tiny cables that GW likes to sculpt, I really like to just paint with with a nice metallic copper and a simple brown washSorry Anon, but I did that for a lot of tiny cables and after I started doing proper cables I realized how totally shit that looks. Cables let you add just that little bit of color that makes something pop out at you; doing a copper color is the same as just making it black.
>>95974357I'm seriously thinking about starting a little solar auxilia allied detatchment, just to have a bunch of line infantry with flashlights running around.
Recast FW solar aux are only a little more expensive thanrecast plastic ones, so I am probably gonna get the older sculpts because A: They look cool as fuck, and B: They are like 2 pieces per model so model prep and assembly will be way faster.
I liked that one WS table someone proposed where you need to be 2 higher to force 5,+ but was otherwise unchanged.

If 3ed rules buff DA melee in some odd way too, it is going to be all the same thing, the same way around, because the game (again) is going to be all about shoting. In 2ed you at least had thunder hammers, cenobiums (with or without hammers) and interemptors. Now interemptors will be ass, melee is bad and who knows what GW does to cenobiums. MEGA anon here, back again since we're talking about file storage. Sorry for dropping off the face of the earth for a while but lets just say current events have made my work/life balance a mess and I haven't had much time to think about this stuff. Though hopefully the absence has made GW less interested in striking everything.
Anyways, I'm curious if anyone here has any experience with gofile? The free account tier only has 'temporary' data storage which seems to get punted into some kind of cold storage after a while that can't be retrieved unless you shill out for the paid tier. I recall an anon here saying he hosted some stuff with gofile for a different general so I'm wondering if that's only practical if you pay.
Anyways if gofile doesn't work out I'll just make a new MEGA account and re-host it all there, but I'm a bit skeptical of that now since GW or whoever were striking it near daily by the end.

I just had a game played RG into DG, Dominion and table corners. Took a different than usual list. No Mor Deythan nor Dark Furies. Skewed XIX with Deliverers, destroyers, Moritats, siege Breaker, phosphex rapiers, and a Xiphon because why not. I also allied Thallax and a Castellax. He took Death Shroud in a LR, Grave Wardens, 10 HSS Autocannos with Armistos, Destroyers, lost of vets, and two min tacs.
Won 4-1. I infiltrated on side objectives and used the JSJ Thallax to good effect. Maimed both tac units, one ran off and the other just hunkered in the center while I had to deal with termis. Fucking Xiphon was trash. Picrel LVP and MVP.
