Royalty free music, just to see if I can be surprised by whats out there. If not that then something from mili or arknights. Yes im a gacha fag.
>>95969017 (OP)>TQUsually the Mechanicus track, Legio Symphonica, or Archotechna. Also some Manowar thrown in there too
>>95969017 (OP)>TQopera and disco mostly, sometimes really autistic shit like gregorian chants while I paint my sisters
>>95969042>Is it just me or do none of the planets in 40k have any depth?Armageddon and Necromunda are pretty much the only ones, because they needed to be fleshed out for other games. Apart from that it's usually not in GWs interest to work intently on one planet because the galaxy is a fuckhuge place and they're just going to jump to another one and another one. I guess for more recent stuff Vigilus got a fair amount of depth at least.

This is what I was listening while doing some shading work on my guy tonight. Highlights are for tomorrow, can’t wait to fuck up the whip, I haven’t quite figured out what I want to do with it yet. So I’m gonna just do my usual Corvus black>Mech standard gray> fenrisian grey on the segments and see how that looks first.

truth is, most painters are not good, I'd wager there's maybe 8-9 well painted armies in my local and a hundred or so more that just meet the 3 color minimum for 10 vp and are at most primed/contrastshade in that order
I have way more respect for the one thicc coat player than the grey horde guy who hasn't painted his shit in years

Dark angels, black templars, or grey knights for the proper knights in space feel?
>>95969244I think those 3 color minimum armies are basically as ugly as bare plastic.
>>95969244The issue has never been the paintjobs, it's the behavior of the poster.
40k went from a setting as a background to why everyones fighting everyone else to after the HH series, a plot that people want to advance. They want important named characters to have 0 mystery and to interact with each other and what the plot to advance, that is events that alter the setting forever. The second group keeps growing so how will GW deal with it?
>>95969326I think 40K should go back to being a silly setting. Horus heresy ruined the atmosphere.
>>95969313its a spectrum of how much you care about Merlin getting executed, being in the army, being the army
>>959692443 colour minimum was the requirement to play at warhammer world it never had anything to do with the battle ready. Being battle ready is different and asks for more effort by asking for every material to be picked out in its own colour and shaded
>>95969326>how will GW deal with it?I imagine the way they'd deal with it would be to advance the plot.

Random Lore Questions:
1. How long do gene seed implants last for? Are they always taken from dead Astartes? What if they are damaged?
2. How big are Battle Barges? How many Astartes/non-Astartes are on your average one?
3. What is the average day like for an Astartes in training? What is it like when they graduate?
4. How much mutation is allowed in your average Space Marine chapter or in the Imperial Guard? Do they kill anyone that isn't 100% normal or if a guy with a third arm showed up they would allow it since its useful?
5. Does your average Guardsman see much combat or are most companies just guarding stuff on planets that don't get much action?
6: How quickly does exposion to the warp affect a person? Lets say a person in a space suit is outside of a ship as it travels through the warp, how long until the person is affected?
>>95969439You dont have an argument on why an anon cant paint his guys the way he wants. All you can do is insult or use your feelings.

>>95969344There's nothing wrong with being a fan of the third reich. I would argue there's more wrong with being a Communist or a Muslim, Nazis have not existed for half a century and are no longer hurting people.

There's no point trying to build an army for current edition is there? Like by the time I finish painting it will be 11th already
>>95969444Inquisition isnt in 40k? Commisars arent?
>>95969451Rules might change but the army will still be there. You’ll probably be fine, though I’m holding out on getting a Black Templars combat myself because supposedly they’re getting a new one soon
>>95969449Because the way he wants to represent his guys represent a genocidal regime. It would be like claiming that there would be no problem if a company made drain cleaner tablets in packaging for candy Because the company should be able to design their packaging the way they want.
>>95969464I hope we start getting leaks for new edition soon
>>95969448>1. How long do gene seed implants last for?If properly preserved, I imagine they last forever, but they'll be used before too long.
>Are they always taken from dead Astartes?Actually one gets taken out while the Marine is still alive, the second one is usually taken out after death.
>What if they are damaged? Then they lose it.
>2. How big are Battle Barges?Fuckhuge, there are much smaller Imperial ships that are like 4 kilometers.
>How many Astartes/non-Astartes are on your average one? They hold up to three companies with all their gear and support equipment but realistically would need thousands of non-Astartes crew to operate the massive ship.
>3. What is the average day like for an Astartes in training? There's an awesome lore blurb about this in the 3rd ed Marine codex, find a scan.
>What is it like when they graduate?Graduate training? They don't. They continue training whenever they aren't deployed, forever.
>4. How much mutation is allowed in your average Space Marine chapter or in the Imperial Guard?Varies, much less is allowed for Marines because it causes problems with the gene-seed implants and might make them incompatible.
>Do they kill anyone that isn't 100% normal Some do, some don't.
>or if a guy with a third arm showed up they would allow it since its useful? That's a pretty extreme mutation, obvious genestealer implications aside. A mutant like that would be killed on many worlds, but might be allowed to serve as a slave, penal legionnaire, or so on.
>5. Does your average Guardsman see much combat or are most companies just guarding stuff on planets that don't get much action? They see a lot of combat. Sitting around guarding stuff is typically for the Planetary Defense Forces, if you're getting shipped out in the Guard, they probably have an active warzone for you. But, not always.
>warp exposureBuddy if you're outside a Gellar Field while in warp-translation having a space suit on is not doing shit for you lol.
>TQ
I don't have a hobby desk so I have to hobby at the flgs. Consequently, I don't listen to music. If I did, probably Blind Guardian to get in the mood.
>>95969473That makes no sense. The way he paints his guys, doesnt kill anyone like a candy drano might. It harms no one. The setting is of total war, mass murder, genocide etc. The game includes real world groups who are guilty of the above (irl). So its realistic to the setting to have such a group or to base your dudes off such a group.
>>959694481) Gene seed last as long as the host is alive. Progenoid glands allow for the reproduction of gene seed every few years.
2) 10~ km
3) Meditation, sparring and prayer. Graduation largely depends on the chapter.
4) Mutations in space marine chapters are common, but usually not debilitating. The imperial guard will take nearly anybody for the meat grinder.
5) Guardsman are like tissue paper. Most get used once and then chucked.
6) Warp exposure produces random effects, ranging from mutation to possession. Being physically inside the warp without protection is a death sentence.

>>95969799to be fair, their guns are to flimsy and just dont look good. And they will look even worse with lasgun muzzles.
And if you have lasguns to spare to cut off the muzzles, you are better off by just using said guns and arms completelty on the minis. I've built a kill team from the Bulldog set a while ago, and cadian arms just work nicely with the bodies.
>>95969817i have pic rel its always consistent, you should paint the bases white and do a light blue wash over whatever snow you choose
should match nicely with your golden gals
>>95969830Of course it's simply the minimum effort idea. Muzzles you can simply make from small diameters plastic tube, just cut it at an angle and slide over the rifle muzzle, for example. I used some of the Grogs with Vostroyan heads and Skitarii arms to make something in the style of old 30k Army, but with M2 carbine style autoguns, rather than lasrifles.

5, Paint thinner shade capillary effect the edges
6, Layer glue on base and shake crushed pepper across it. Paint when dry.
7, Seal the base, because I plan on painting the rest of the model later.
(Do this for 200 models for table quality games)
This sounds kinda quick, yeah?

>>95969908> it is that it's been heavily pandered to new peopleThis is sloptubers fault because slapchopped minis look fairly good in thumbnails. So they swamped the platform with low effort content to reel in newbies and paintlets for those heckin views
>>95969920some people will hate to hear this but for monstrous creatures, things like air brushing and drybrushing work fucking wonders for all the same reason those two things are great for doing bases

>>95969924I think that the way trends work on social media these days is also to blame. If you searched value sketching or undercoating miniatures before it would bring up all sorts of random stuff, and you'd have to dig to find it. The second you give something a short and memorable name it's going to spread like crazy on social media because it brings up so many similar results because there was no search results for slapchop and painting before. I watched Ultramarines last night. Why do people hate it? I think it was solid especially for a time where we didnt have astartes to think about.
It really nailed the horror aspect, lots of super solid imagery like the imperial fists being disemboweled and pinned against a gate to make the chaos star.
Honestly any moment with a marine aura farming holds up very well and there were moments that showed off the might of a space marine my only critiques are
-armour didnt sound heavy enough
-we needed to see some marine vs humans to really appreciate how strong they are
-I was confused by the initiates having full fledged and ornate armor and not scout armor
>>95969985Impulsors are hover vehicles and LoS works by having any LoS possible, not from center mass. The Land Raider can see through the gap underneath the Impulsor,

>>95970143Never watched it fully but from what I've seen and remember that movie looked pretty cheap/amateurish. Stuff like FF: Spirits Within or FF7: Emo Cloud was already out and there were videogames with cutscenes longer and cooler than it.
Amateurish or cheap stuff can't be enjoyed but here's your reason.
This current discussion sounds like it could've been solved with the old "pop up" rule of 2nd edition for skimmer vehicles.
>>95970180I find clips don't do it justice like the clip everyone's seen of the bolt with "kill the heretic" carved into it killing a berserker looks janky but its 3 seconds in a relentless 3 minute combat scene and its a lot better when surrounded by that.
Im glad I saw it anyway. I can see where astartes got a lot of its vibe. The part where the captain stands on the mountain and looks out at the warp storm hearing voices and takes off his helmet is similar to the marine at the end of astartes
>>95970182In a realistic sense nothing ever blocks LOS except terrain so it's pretty easy once you accept that it means your leman russ is shooting all its guns from the corner of it's tread through a gap in a landraiders treads.

It was Kurze being a absolute dweeb and going out of his way to make his schizophrenic delusions true that the NLs ended up the way they are. A lot of their appeal does come from being comically evil and the whole sneaky behind the scenes kabal shit. While yes they can be justifiable the writers focus way less on their aspect of being rejects from conventional Aeldari society when compared to the way the NLs are written with a heavy focus on how buck breaking Nostramu was or how much their primarch and other legions treated them like shit.
"We want revenge on a galaxy that hates us" agains't "we want the galaxy to hate us as it's the only way we can live" are 2 very different things. You bring in reinforcements with deepstrike or rapid ingress. You place some more durable bait on a point to earn primary or sticky the objective to draw the opponent out into your firing range.
All the things that make it tactically difficult for you to focus fire down enemies work in your favor and against your opponent as well. You can maneuver around and create chole points within the terrain or move block to try to set up a solid lone of defense. There's a lot of interplay just in how you choose to move and not just in how you choose to shoot. >>95971084Releasing a drop pod spam detachment seems like a no brainer to sell as many as possbl and I'd take the bait. Just wish they made plastic dreadnought drop pods too.
>>95971212Transports are cheap enough, fast enough, and durable enough in this edition that you're really doing yourself a disservice not to have at least one. You can use them to throw a troop up to the front line quickly, piggyback jump another troop into them to protect and deploy next turn, go drive it up to move-block the enemy and create a choke point, or just fuck off to the side of the board afterwards to perform actions and screen out enemy reserves with it after it gets your important stuff where it needs to go.
>>95971139So I should bring more cheap troops for that? We're starting with 1k points and I only have a single tactical squad. I split it in two, one half to sit on the home objective, one half to push... But the midboard half got deleted first turn despite being inside a ruin.
>>95971227Mmmm i'll take a look but 200 points for a tactical squad+ drop pod/rhino seems steep. In my head I always take two troops by force of habit from the old foc but maybe just one would be good?
>>95971231Yeah it's hard to have a list that does everything at 1K. Which is why a lot of people say the game is only really properly balanced for 2K.
But you actually have a couple of options to force people out on to midpoints. You can throw a weak sacrificial unit but that could just get shot off. Works well against bigot stuff with low volume of fire though. You can put a sticky objective on it in which case they have to physically move something out there. Or if you can afford it, you can put a big durable brawler unit that they have to commit something heavier to remove. Even if they don't come all the way out to the midfield to actually fight you, they generally have to leave their big tanks or whatever they shot with exposed so that you can then move to flank them and fire on them while leaving few firing lines back at yourself. You get into a game of trading and trying to minimalize enemy sight lines back to you while forcing them to give you better ones and having longer range weapons gives you better ways to exploit this.
>>95971231What's your list?
The ideal and perfect start for any Marine army is just Scouts since they're cheap, expendible, and can do a lot of actions.
>>95971239It was vulkan he'stan + 10 infernus inside a land raider redeemer, one tactical with melta and missile launcher, one assault squad and one vindicator. I know I put way too many points into the flamer clown car but still the game was decently close despite forgetting Oath until turn 4.
>>95971267I'm gonna be real you can just drop Tact squad for 2 scouts and you should win every game

Rhino chassis is too ubiquitous in too many armies for them to retire, though there MIGHT be a rhino refresh.
Drop Pod changes and a bunch of firstborn units being embiggened like SGV/Terminators makes it quite likely that some of the firstborn units will just get a scale up. My hot take is that the only unit we lose is the old Dread chassis, Rhino gets a refresh (that GW spins as Look! Chaos gets an update! Sisters get an update!) and at some point shrimplified loadout Tacts/Devs drop.
What we might lose, though, is the Whirlwind because GW hates indirect.

>>95971458>Basically the rest of the firstborn unitsWhat would those even be at this point? Assault squads, drop pods, sternguard, scouts and terminators basically got a 1:1 upgrade (loss of special weapons for assaults, which could come back like the eviscerator for death company, and sniper scouts aside). Assault terminators and vanguard veterans will also get a 1:1 update too. Do you count the tanks? Those don't need to be replaced (as a unit, the kit might get an update) as all of them fill different niches. That leaves only tacticals and devastators. Tacticals I'm of the copium opinion that they'll just replace intercessors with a pseudo tactical squad, like they've done for space wolves, templares and Emperor's children. Devastators still have their own niche and they could get a mostly 1:1 update like assault squads got. Probably limiting them to 5 man squads like havocs or SoB heavy weapons whose name escapes me now.
>>95971480Rhino refresh makes sense because they have twelve different armies that would buy the damn kit again for one new weapon option or a new upgrade kit included in box.
>>95971466>yeah of course wiping out your army takes strategy. anyway since we're playing on this table with no walls I'm going to fire at your entire army
>>95971466That's not what the wargame is though. Each game represents a pivotal moment in a battle. The Imperial Guard might be wiped to a man but if they managed to burn and destroy the defensible positions that Chaos was going to use as a staging ground, assassinated a few leaders, inflicted heavy losses and banished a greater daemon, the guardsmen have 'won' despite being wiped out. They've done their duty and the rest of the battle will win knowing their sacrifice
>>95971480>My hot take is that the only unit we lose is the old Dread chassisMy molten crust of the earth take is that this is fucking stupid. Boxnaughts are a completely different weight class to the redemptor chassis stuff and there's no reason for one to replace the other just like broadsides aren't replaced by the bigger tau suits. Hell, their current rules would be good enough (if they changed their retarded re-roll aura for the mortis rule from legends) if they costed like 80 points instead of 135 like a ballistus.

If we want those units to keep existing in 40k they'll need a new 40k specific kit. It's retarded, but it's what they are doing for now. I'm personally already buying the 30k kits anwyays.
>>95971560IMO both rhinos and land raiders will just get a retool of the current kit to make it fit better and be more sprue efficient, like they did with Leman Russes and some Eldar vehicles like a decade ago. That way all the upgrade frames would still be compatible.

>>95971928making agents a real army completely defeats the point of agents as a concept

>>95971849It seems like dedication but a ritual post takes less than a minute to do and doesn't derail the thread into shitflinging. Anyone can do it really and nothing about these threads would change at all...
>>95971933Yeah. Every. Single. Thread. Ritualposters all deserve the rope.
Only realizing now that strats are all the same but under different names

>>95971951Not all but many. Tends to happen when you put what used to be core mechanics into stratagems and when a big chunk of modern rules are just re-rolls.
>>95971954I mean, they have their own alternate dimension empire that is completely unassailable where multiple world and even suns are kept captive
But yeah, it is a shame they don't hold any regions of Realspace as kind of an evil empire to threaten the sovereignty of the Imperium over the fringes of the galaxy.
>>95971935I argue the complete opposite actually.
The Emperor's holy inquisition and his agents have enough power to field countless units from the Imperium under their hands. If anything I like them being composed of a couple of elite HQ units leading tons of other factions like GK, DW, ADS, ADA with their own quirks when under their supervision. I just wish more was avaiable for them. Id rather have them be a mix of other armies with unique units and vehicles than their own thing. That aside we eating good ever eince KT dropped
>>95971946if think these posts happen too often, then you are online too often.
How is your entry doing, guys?
>>95971980>GK, DW, ADSthese would not get fielded by the same inquisitor in the same army

>>95971990Bad, with this heat paint dries on my brushes so I haven't been able to finish painting my stuff. I might be able to finish next week but I'll miss the deadline.

>>95971933The Dark Eldar guy at least posts new art every thread too and doesn't take the bait when people start antagonizing him. Furthermore, I think he's probably the reason all those guys starting up the faction recently always get full answers to their questions about it like

Commorragh is bascially a whole solar system in terms of space, on top of other dimensions chained to it and connected to the central solar space sized space. It's huge and massively densly populated in.
The sun stealing is said to be a lost art from the height of their empire. Well not stealing a sun per se but having the tech to hold it, shrink it, control its gravity and ensure only the tiniest slivers of its heat can light the city below
>>95972059>Commorragh is bascially a whole solar system in terms of spaceGod it really hurts my autism when people misuse the name "solar system" like that. There's only one Solar System, it's a proper name, it isn't a thing that there can be more of.

>>95971195They're also making a big point of allowing 0 cross usage for models. The vindicator and predator got new releases for 30k while 40k has the shitty grav tanks so in 11e you just fully put them in legends so nobody can buy a predator and use it in two game modes. They're 100% gone and I wouldn't be surprised if even the Rhino got canned.
>only the terminators sold out
grim. Marine fags have once again over estimated themselves. Where is that dark eldar refresh now James.
>>95972192When the Latin language existed they didn't even have a concept of there being more than one sun, that the stars in the sky could also be suns for other planets, so no, you're being disingenuous here. Sol is Latin for OUR sun, the one and only specific one that our planet orbits. Other stars can also be suns the way that men can also be fathers, but your father has an individual name. The Solar System is named such because it's the system of OUR sun, whose name is Sol. Other suns have other names and their system is named appropriately. There are not "other Solar Systems", there are other star systems. If you want to be formal you can replace "star" with "stellar" and talk about, in the general sense, "stellar systems", but only one of those is, has ever been, or will ever be, the Solar System.

>>95972224It would be a masterstroke though.all the marine players would need to buy the new totallynotaRhino to have transports. The only issue is Chaos but im sure GW can think of something.
That being said I don't think Rhinos will actually get squatted. But the other marine tanks are as good as gone.
>>95972245Why does he need a fuckheug diorama? Can't they just do like primarchs with two bases?

>>95972240>>95972224It's only going to get removed from the Space Marine codex because they are going to get a new transport called the Rhinox that is just a little bit bigger and can now carry Primaris Marines in it (besides terminators and gravis)

>>95972331>as sol just means "sun"No, Sol is a proper name, the origin of the name is a word that means sun. That is not the same thing.
The name "Adam" originally just meant "man" in Hebrew but if you know a guy named Adam that is his NAME now, the derivation of the term is irrelevant, you cannot put his legal name on documents as "man".

If you want an example of this the vindicator cannot be used in DG, WE or EC. Only the older legion codex (TS) has it. This plus what is happening to daemons is the way forward, they really don't want the same model to be used in different games.
