Any other commanders that can give a fresh take on goblins?
>>95986644 (OP)Honestly, I wouldn't mind Power Rangers.
>>95986674for me it's Benito
>>95986665I've been wanting to try Thromok goblins. Think it be kind of cool being able to go wide and overwhelm with an army of goblins or switch it up and devour the goblins for a single massive swing when needed. Devour x looks like it would get out of hand fast with enough goblins.
>>95986704There's a few Thromok decks at my LGS and they all play exactly the same: Devour a bunch of creatures -> Fling/Chandra's Ignition. It's a cool idea at first, but man it just seems so boringly linear
>>95986644 (OP)This is 20 years old now
>>95986679I never understood why a single real world figure was tossed in.
>>95986752Fair. Thromok does seem the kind that lends itself to similar enders and play styles. It's designed to do the one thing. More than most. Part of why I thought maybe goblins would be decent. You could do the goblin tribal stuff or throw the worm when needed. But you'll probably end up leaning more towards one or the other as the deck gets refined.
>>95986655they need to bring back textless full arts for more than just memes like Urza's Saga (forma de land)
>>95986829>Shaq>Aaron Carter>Abraham Lincoln>Jackie Chan>Chuck Norris>The Rock>Hulk Hogan>Mr. Rogers in a bloodstained sweater
>>95986934None of those people are real
would a 1 mana add 1 colorless rock be an auto include like sol ring is
this sword punches way above its weight in three color decks and you're a fool if you're not running it
>>95986934Like five of those are characters played by entertainers.
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
>>95986956I feel so too. too bad I have no legend that cares enough to be protected or buffed
i dont like playing blue or draw pass, would she be decent as an enchantress commander with lots of drain effects
>>95986955Obviously, yes.
>>95982224You responded to the cast trigger of fractured identity with a board wipe, so you lose and nobody else loses ironically enough. In order:
>Tempest of Light resolves>Fractured Identity resolves>STATE BASED ACTION - Nine Lives leaves the battlefield, you lose the game
>>95987061Nine Lives causing you to lose the game is a triggered ability, not a state-based action.

>>95987070It's UBslop tourist season in this thread, you can't expect competent cards evaluating.
>>95987159Almost as bad as bloomburrow tourist season
>>95987159>seasonmore like eternal summer
>I'm going to put super state on Mr Rogers, and then sacrifice my jiffy lube token to give him 5 +1/+1 counters and equip him with Zordon's asshole, giving him protection from doritos locos and blue. I'm going to tap Morpheus to make him the one, and I'll have him fight spongebob
>>95987167You forgot Pic n save and subaru
im glad the next set is real magic
>>95987186when is the UB Cross over?
>>95987167I negate with Its Morbin' Time
>>95987186its canon to magic anon its not UB
>>95987167I block with not-Saruman
I mean Urza.
>>95987289dang you replied to wrong anon but I still loled
>>95987307like i can understand disliking UB cards when they dont fit like spongebob and doctor who, but aetherdrift and spaceships seems just as bad
also having mechanics or traits exclusive to UB cards is awful
>>95987339Space is open for a lot of cool ideas. Race cars aren't.
>>95987339it's a false dichotomy that disliking UB as a concept means you must automatically like every UW set
Can he be a reasonable low bracket 3 deck, or is he just too much value and I should build Ygra instead?
>>95987343i havent been playing for that long but im not sure how edge of eternities fits, the only stories and aesthetics i know is like innistrad and sorin stuff
>>95987362I don't care if it fits. It is retarded to compare "wacky racers" with SPACE as if they have equal shit to explore or make a set of.
Picking this up while it's still flying under the radar. There's hundreds different commanders that want this. It's gonna sit and passively climb with no reprints as these types of precon cards tend to do.
>>95987368they're both not Magic
>>95987376I can't think of a single Commander that wants this
>>95987392Works great in my Zul Ashur deck
>>95987392then you're a complete and total idiot, any commander that futzes around with the graveyard loves it
>>95987376>already $7I don't think it's flying under the radar as much as you think
>>95987289I hate that Battlebond and March of the Machine established precedent for this kind of stupid neon weaponry.
>>95987339I dislike all UB cards. I also dislike Thunder Junction, Duskmourn, Aetherdrift, and Edge of Eternities. MKM was also a fucking travesty.
Tarkir and Bloomburrow were fucking great.
>>95987376>Do thing draw a card>It's ok when it's not on a commander!
>>95987339>having mechanics or traits exclusive to UB cards is awfulyeaah, this is not sadly exclusive to UB tho. it feels like every set has a mechanic never to be revisited and now we have shit like
2 day/nights
morph/disguise
venture/initiative
foretell/plot
and all these super specific mechanics that are only separated because muh flavor
>>95987452yes, correct. Because a commander is always in your hand and can always be recast if removed, and a card in the 99 isn't and can't
>>95987452>>It's ok when it's not on a commander!Yes.
>>95987376this but got it at release for under a fiver
>>95987452Card draw engines exist, get over it UBfag.
>>95987476Jokes on you I only play Gruul and Boros
>>95987376People also sleeping on renewed solidarity imo
>>95987392I understand that it's hip with you kids these days to be play stupid but this basically reads "the first time you dredge instead dredge twice and make a treasure" in necrobloom

>>95987289What are the color combos/general gimmicks of the set?
>>95987547>"the first time you dredge instead dredge twice and make a treasure" in necrobloomAre you fucking retarded?
>>95987547Do you understand the irony of you saying
>I understand that it's hip with you kids these days to be play stupidAnd then saying something completely wrong that shows you don't understand the card
>>95987565it's generally safe to assume a Necrobloom deck is going to have more than two lands in the graveyard at any given time
>>95987565it adds "draw a card" and since all of your land cards have dredge, you get to dredge again and THEN you make a treasure on the second one since you can't pick to draw again
>>95987580>>95987573>>95987565>being this retarded>Dredge a land (this is a card leaving your graveyard)>trigger Teval's Judgement>choose to Draw a Card>replace that draw by Dredging another land>this is another card leaving your graveyard>choose to create a treasure tokenwow that was so complicated
>>95987567>lands are important>vehicles but this time they'll be good we swear>and also Eldrazi because fuck you
>>95987595>you see, i'm assuming a game state/board that everyone else doesn't, so when i trick them it makes me look smart!!!
>>95987608>there are a total of 2 lands in my graveyard>in the Necrobloom>this is a confusing or hard to achieve boardstateYou're flailing, deep breaths retard. You misread the card, it happens.

I didn't realize we had so many gravelets in this thread. Stick to your craw wurms, freshies.
>>95987608>game state/board that everyone else doesn'tthe nigga literally said "in necrobloom" so wouldn't it logically assume that Necrobloom is in play/relevant to the discussion? Are you braindead? You're approaching tripfag levels of retarded here.
>>95987626are you even playing the game if your graveyard isn't bigger than your deck
>>95987597>EldraziThat's surprising. I havn't bothered to keep up with the lore but I thought they were sealed in Innistrad's moon
>>95987615>>95987634>doesn't state more than 1 land is in the graveyard>acts smug when people don't take "more than 1 land in the graveyard" into consideration.Real dipshit ass burger hours at the moment, hm?
>>95987649IT'S THE FUCKING NECROBLOOM
IT'S GOING TO HAVE MORE THAN ONE LAND IN THE GRAVEYARD
>>95987648Ulamog and Kozilek were "killed" but it was probably just temporary physical forms destroyed. Emrakul is in the moon and WOTC forgot about her
>>95987666>you see, I have no idea how any deck functions on even a basic level, even after reading the card, so I'm going to assume everyone else is as clueless as I am
>>95987565>>95987580I'll explain this in simple terms since I'm sure you both had a long day at Special Summer Camp
>have Teval's and Necrobloom out and several lands in grave>draw step occurs>I get to choose to draw or activate a dredge ability in my grave>I dredge >a card is leaving my grave>Teval's triggers>Choose draw mode>get to dredge again>a card is leaving my grave again>This is a separate instance of a card leaving the grave>choose the treasure modeI have no dredged twice and made a treasure where I would have dredged once before. I hope this helps, I know retards have trouble with abstract concepts and non-literal thinking
This is like all of the spergs last thread saying "shadow is busted because *assumed board state*"
>>95987648that was the last we heard of them but they're back now because the in-universe story is just going to be stuck on a loop of Bolas>Phyrexians>Eldrazi from now until the game dies.
>>95987686>no one ever runs mana rocks or artifact lands!>and they'll especially never run mana rocks or artifact lands in a deck that specifically goes apeshit with mana produced by artifacts!
>>95987673If you don't explicitly say what the board set up is, you don't get to clown on others for not understanding your shitty combo. Shrimple as.
>>95987698>if you don't go into explicit and excruciating detail on something most people will be able to take as read from the context, how will I ever understand anything?>not that I'll understand even when you explain, but I'll get mad anyway

>>95987554Looking good so far. Though I'll admit I think mass hysteria may be a bit too risky. Giving decks that don't normally have haste haste can give your opponents uniquely situated advantages.

>>95987936Not really. There could be some interesting combinations but it seems like too much work breaking down two decks that could work together for one event.
>>95987859You got the right idea, I would maybe cut goblinslide for a virtue of strength. You're running a lot of big x spells and want to cast them for big value. If you're new to deck building in commander I would say the top 3 things to consider when brewing are
>"what's the bare minimum this deck should be able to do 90% of games?">"how do I want to accomplish that?">"how can account for having two extra opponents?"
>>95988064i have them rule 0'd together, since before i melded once the entire time i had my angel tribal
>>95987985any thoughts on what to replace it with? Three-drop slot is already pretty crowded when considering the one-sided haste anthems and I don't have a way to reliably pitch Anger.
>>95988051I have no idea why that isn't the case already. Feels like that should have been the first change these cars types got.
>>95988083Basically I wanted a goblin deck with multiple game plans, so some games I might flood the board, but other games I might just one shot them out of nowhere with X spells
>>95988129You are in red so maybe some of the cheaper discard one draw two spells? Maybe also the ones that give treasures too for future turns. And something like a Sun Titan could do well to bring back both creatures and other permanents that are in curve later in the game. You want to be attacking so the attack trigger would be useful too.

Is this nigga really as hated as people say? I've got a specific idea for a deck floating around for a while and this seems like the best commander for it.
>>95988588Idk about hated but I found it boring af
>>95987554I don't think tokens are a very good strategy for Neriv. Not really sneak attack tribal when most of your creatures aren't even worth sneak attacking in. I was actually working on a Neriv deck myself going a completely different route running Lightning Skelemental, Blistering Firecat and some other Ball Lightning type creatures. My thought was I want to make the absolute most I can out of the double damage so I'm forgoing tokens entirely. As far as more thoughts on your deck I think Whip is a bad card, Pandemonium will bit you in the ass and I really think you're going on two directions with tokens stuff AND nontoken sneak attack threats. Pick one. Also more ramp and as always run Liquimetal Torque and Abrade/Shenanigans etc.

She seems really cool as a commander. FF really has added a lot of cool new commanders to the scene. Though I guess with the amount of commanders in the set in general you will get some really good ones and some stinkers
>>95988604hm yes, I was feeling the pull in two directions. But I figured the Mobilize fellas would be there for early(ish) pressure while the big guys are getting built up to (and I like Mobilize). But I'll fiddle with it more.
>>95988523Initial, unsorted thoughts:
The main issue I'm seeing with this deck is that there's a very large number of "win more" cards like Zopandrel and Twinflame Tyrant. Your commander is already a doubler that's hard to remove so you should be looking for more big bodies to put down instead of things that make already big bodies larger. That will in-turn likely cascade (har har) outward to improving your green draw options to be online more consistently.
Also I feel you're overcounting your draw options by including MDFCs. Disciple of Freyalise for example is genuinely awful on its front side being 6 mana sorcery speed Momentous Fall, and just the draw is worth 2 mana with Life's Legacy. If you're playing OneBigBody.dek you have a very large assortment of draw options available that I'd recommend like Soul's Majesty, or Return of the Wildspeaker.
As a rule of thumb I'd only run 3-4 finisher/doubler-type cards at most because they're only good when you have advantage and are looking to close the game (at which point you should ideally have enough card advantage to find them fairly consistently).
Your ramp package is a bit underwhelming. You could probably invest a bit more in "play extra land" type cards such as Exploration or Sakura-Tribe Scout to both assist you in ramp for the whole game, and get excess lands out of your hand after an explosive draw turn. You're in green so there's no shortage of 1-drop ramp options.
>>95988636If you like mobilize lean into it more and ditch the ball lightning/sneak attack stuff. Impact Tremors and the two BLB and MKM versions they printed. That also offers more synergy with ETB and blink stuff.
Heres the first draft I made of mine. The physical version is a bit different and again it forgoes mobilize. I wish Siegebreaker was legendary. https://moxfield.com/decks/yREAAclbAE-48YQs13ms8A
>>95988315Purphoros and ojer axonil are group slug decks, not burn, burn is casting direct damage to people faces with spells
>>95988729I think I might go your route and cut down on Mobilize since I already have a Zurgo deck
Whatโs the best stax color archetype/commander to deal with the grixis player spamming treasures and combo-ing off?
Time to bake cookies and suck ass, and my stove is broken.
Feel free to post IRL decks
>>95988747Leyline of Singularity he now can't play the game you did it champ.
>>95988754I'd suck her ass

>>95988756So azorius with augustin as commander?
>>95987936Yeah, I went to one of them and got the promo.
It wasn't very gay at all
>>95988747Depends how he's comboing off. The answer 99.9% of the time is "instant speed removal and stop tapping out every turn like a moron." If you give me a bit more to work with than "grixis" I can give you some more directed advice.
>>95988656>As a rule of thumb I'd only run 3-4 finisher/doubler-type cards at mostwell I run about 7-8 of these effects with various differences. I can probably switch out stuff like mage slayer, skullspore nexus, neyith, which are mostly utility
>You could probably invest a bit more in "play extra land" type cards such as Exploration or Sakura-Tribe ScoutI'll try that, sure. then I can probably put stuff like valakut exploration in too then.
>>95988766I fail to understand how you arranged the words "Leyline of Singularity" to translate into "Grand Arbiter Augustin IV."
>>95988740It's definitely fun but pretty fragile. Feldon is an obvious MVP combined with Fury or Skelemental Hungry for More is an interesting card I was considering, I cut Anathemancer but could see it putting in work. Callous Sell-Sword is another including I'm considering as a sneaky Fling like spell that actually works with Neriv. My group is pretty low power and I'm always trying to get them to play faster so we can get more games in a d this felt like a good fit for that. Plus I had a foil firecat from childhood wasting away in a binder.
Theeadly reminder that MLD belongs in bracket 3.
>>95988816You are free to believe that, and I hope your playgroup agrees with your opinion, but its not true beyond that.
>>95988804Any reason you skipped Nahiri's Resolve? Seems like a no-brainer for this kind of deck.
>>95988782the combo player can swat and force of will easier than you can hold 2 mana for the rest of the game
>>95988782Well as of late heโs been running kefka and stacking treasures to wheel us 7 times in one big combo turn. But what he was initially known for was Vivรญ.
Heโs running Vivi and as a result uses spells like [[Big Score]] and [[Unexpected Windfall]] to generate treasures to cast multiple spells a turn and turn that into mana from ViViโs ability so he can cast more spells to boost viviโs power and ping us
Itโs bullshit
>>95988834Good thing there's only one copy of those cards
>>95988844anon are you just copypasting posts from Reddit
>>95988827It would take 8 mana to actually save a ball lightning with it. Thats just a bit too grindy for the deck and I would prefer to just unearth or reanimate instead.
>>95988820Do you actually believe MLD is good enough to hang with the average bracket 4 deck Gavin? Korvold maybe but then it's just a purposefully gimped cedh deck.

>>95988790>Well I mostly run 7-8This is likely a large part of why you're clogging. My monoG stompy deck has 4 total dedicated finishers and two of them can be played without a body (the other two are Excalibur and Skullspore Nexus, which cost very little mana). Another comparison I'd use is Dragonborn Champion. Your commander doesn't really ask you to swing with a lot of bodies, but rather, one really big one. That lends itself more to cards like Hunter's Prowess or Hunter's Insight.
>>95988931lmao just take the L

>power incongruity You know, I completely understand where you're coming from. A lot of the time I put cards in that are good, but then when I'm trying to do a "thing", I try to put in cards that feel flavorful for that on the side, like Swallowed by Leviathan since it's a surveil + counterspell in one in a deck that wants to vomit half of itself into the graveyard, Unshakable Tail so that surveiling turns into a cyclical event if I keep hitting creatures, Enhanced Surveillance in general, etc. Another example is I run Otawara and Takenuma and I've never channeled them once, I've also never sacrificed Inventors' Fair for the tutor before either lmao

>Leonardo da VinciExiles stuff I discard with his ability to make thopter copies of them, different decks want this
>Mirrodin Besieged Only does draw/discard on the second mode and token generation on the first mode. I may actually put this in since I tend to surveil half of my deck into the graveyard anyway.
>Transmutation Font (because it makes blood tokens I guess?)5 drop that makes 1 token per turn and can tutor, but generally feels overcosted for the effect for me. I'd be better off running Kuldotha Forgemaster in this deck.

>>95989418Ceremonial Knife requires combat damage, which is feasible but extremely slow. Kamber and Eulogist aren't artifact creatures, which isn't like a no-sell point or anything but also require me to consistently remove opposing creatures or face sacrifice/removal heavy decks. If anything they incentivize removing them and not removing anything else since I benefit from it. The only real direct creature removal I have are Armix, Walking Ballista (which come on I'm not using that to kill creatures lmao), Toxic Deluge, and Withering Torment. Honestly, I probably should have more repeatable removal, this deck sorta folds to high aggro big boy green timmy decks. >>95989707Anything that puts in non-basic lands should be b4, including fetches. Lands that produce two or more colors and can come in untapped should be 4. Dual or more lands that always come in tapped should be b3.
A big part of why this game is so fucking fast now is because dinks can run 3+ color slop piles with little issue due to how many fucking lands there are that effortlessly color fix, even if some of them come in tapped. Choosing to make decks with 3 or more colors should be a hard choice and come with some sort of trade off. Most mono/dual decks are not significantly faster than a 3 color to offset having less answers and strategies. Push 3+ color Commanders with greedy mana bases into B4 and a lot of problem decks instantly disappear from casual tables.

>>95991127I'd say I take the free mull more times than not but rarely go down to 6

For me, if any commander has CMC over 4 it has to have some sort of built in protection or recursion for me to run it, with very few compromises

The literal second after it resolves they want to cast removal. Doesn't matter if it's not attacking them, they're scared retards that think big creatures should never be allowed to exist. >>95993122This. But then you should be using your brain to figure out WHEN that may happen and not playing into it.
>>95993133Your apartment doesn't need to know anything. There's bidets you can buy off amazon that hook right into the toilet feed lines. They take like 2 minutes to install at most

>>95993122I agree with you Anon and I don't think that it should happen. Realistically removing someone's Commander is a poor decision unless it becomes an imminent threat, because that is the card that has the most resilience.
I think that unfortunately the way the people's minds work, and the way that the game works with the disparity between the cost of removal and the cost of your commander, often people come to the conclusion that the best thing to do IS to remove someone's Commander with the idea that you're going to slow down the deck and strategy significantly, because in Commander people build around their commanders.
The issue is both that it defeats the purpose of the format but also that the assessment is not always wrong.
>I just don't get it. What's even the point of commander if all you're doing is removing and getting your commander removed. Might as well play Canadian Highlander.I feel like you're exactly correct with this statement, but I can't deny that I have some decks where removing the commander slows it down.
Personally I try my best not to remove other people's commanders because I know how frustrating that is, and even though I want to win obviously, and have a competitive game, I would rather remove their big threats.
something I also find fun in, is building commanders that are less popular and uncommon or less remove on sight. Sometimes you'll get ignored for a large portion of the game. But this of course depends on the table and group you are in, and eventually you can run into an interesting paradox; when every commander and every card is remove on sight, suddenly nothing is.
>>95993122People DO save their removal, which is precisely why a high cmc commander drop is such an attractive target. Also turn 6 and 7 is when people start having unused mana at the end of the turn, using it on a cheap removal spell now rather than later is very tempting.
>>95993122There are ways to prevent that.

>>95993122The point at which people are casting 6 drops, not only can people board wipe, but it's probably getting necessary to board wipe because engines are online.
But either way, more and more commanders are printed where it IS the game plan. More than half the deck will be dedicated to triggering the commander, and if the commander is not on board the deck is significantly weakened.
If you pop someone's commander you're very often crippling them for a rotation or more.
>>95993048There's a simple solution and I've been advocating for it since September of last year:
PRINT AN ALTERNATIVE TO JEWELED LOTUS THAT SAYS THE MANA IT MAKES CAN ONLY BE USED TO CAST A COMMANDER OF MANA VALUE 5 OR MORE
>>95993019I think it's a mix of social etiquette and threat assessment that keeps commanders of such high costs not getting instantly removed. There's often something worse you have to keep removal for and if you just blow it the moment they get their reccuring threat, their commander, on the board then you won't have much left when something else dangerous hits. If they have any basic up strategy that is.

try to use your brain and think how a company can profit from making guidelines (hint: formats) in commander and maybe you'll be in the club
How the fuck do you balance this fuck on proliferate to proliferate payoffs, when im doing dry runs it always feels like i have too much of one and not enough of the other
>>95993867So you are admitting they are guidelines and not rules, thank you .
>>95993882you must be one of those retards that thought walking dead wasn't a sign of things to come
kekw pattern recognition is a skill after all
>>95993693How many artifact boardwipes are you running in every deck to stop mono blue ramp?
>>95993908>mono blue rampNone of my friends run these decks, and I've seen none at the LGS. Green, though? Each has like 15+ pieces of ramp for lands alone

>Activate only once each turn
As bad as "activate as a sorcery". Lemme fucking pump this shit to the moon as a finisher goddammit
>>95993915Fine. Grixis ramp, Aristotle. Unless you're telling me that the words "Arcane" and "Signet", usually in that order, are foreign at your table.
>>95993767If they aren't rules then I have no need to follow them or obey them in any capacity and they have no method of enforcement. They are suggestions like you asking me not to do something. I can just say no.
>>95993814A system where every rando who bought a precon must read articles on to understand is a failure from day 1.
>UGH DIDN'T YOU TAKE THE REQUIRED COLLEGE COURSE TO PLAY THIS GAME?!No. Neither did anyone else with a life.
>>95993008>verso has a magic card, kindaDebating building this guy, is he fun?
>>95993951>I can just say no.so can people when you ask to join in for a game
>>95993951Yes, that's always been the case
You don't have to play with brackets at all
>>95993943>1-2 manarocks>versus 15+ pieces of green land rampThis should not be a difficult concept to understand. You're being stupid just for the sake of being stupid.
>>95993957Yes I agree that's why I play cEDH Tivit control against them. Because I, an experienced player, should not be expected to take a college course on unspoken etiquette to play this game.
>>95993961It is mid game so your only option is to scoop and then spend 5 minutes getting your shit together
At that point probably best to just leave the store if I were you.
>>95993797it's almost like people already know not to pit a casual pioneer deck with a casual legacy deck and wotc is just trying to do the same thing with commander so that the UB commander they need to sell actually has a fighting chance and not be stomped to the ground by some "casual" rhystic study deck
>>95993966A Talisman/Signet package alone is 7 cards of ramp in Grixis, and this is just the selection of cards so obvious even Timmy McNoGames can find them. You're chasing a boogeyman of bad deckbuilding choices (playing 15 ramp spells) when white has an entire identity slice based around mogging green's ramp.
>>95993977ok midgame the first time around, what about every future time? if you're a nigger enough about being clear on the estimated power you will eventually rub off enough people that you just won't get games going being know as "the nigger who brings MLD and hard stax to bracket 2 games" regardless of what deck you try to pass off
>>95994017This idea everyone uses brackets is cute. Few do.
>>95994046if people can follow formats they can follow brackets
all it takes is a firm hand from gavin and a few events, ye of small mind
>>95993960>versoWhat the fuck are you talking about
>>95993879Symptom of not enough card draw
>>95993053You enjoy politicking/10
>>95994827You enjoy being s hipster
