Why does anyone play magic?
It costs an assload for a bunch of paper cards, at least wargaming gives you great sculpts you can make your own with the hobbying aspect. A model has way more value as you PUT value into it by making it your vision and tell a story.
The system demands you buy like crazy for the original loot boxes, any other game you at least know what they are buying when buy it
Those cards go out of style with rotations, and if you play in formats that allow for old cards, the meta breaks easily. Again wargamers in contrast, treasure their old models as a badge of pride and age. Even an out of print model can be used as a proxy or just sit on a display case
The player base is often unsavory. This is also often true in wargames, but a wargames hobbyist can totally ignore this part since to many the game is just a minigame to show off your models.
Or the cards are just banned because suspected racisms, even ones that don't make any sense like devils throwing rocks.
Not to mention that the people who make these games actively hate you if you were born a white straight male, and don't want to wear a dress.
What I am saying is, don't buy magic cards. Just print your own from the rules that come out and play with your mates if you do like the gameplay. Or just play Digimon cuz it has better waifus
