You know what? I actually kind of like that face. Yes it's weird looking, but that's kind of the point. Space Marines are fucked up, genetically altered, murderous fanatics. They shouldn't look anything like normal, healthy people even if it is "relatable".

That's a fair read, but personally, I think GW just can't make faces. When I first saw Severina Raine years ago, I thought she's just supposed to look kinda clapped, maybe an older, somewhat rugged veteran. Makes sense, right, commissars are supposed to be scary and most of them are fuck ugly.

Then I saw the cover of her novel and realised that the model is just horrible.

There’s a few good head sculpts in AoS (albeit definitely not all). I dont think they are unable to do it, they just choose to make them ugly as an “artstyle”, even if it contradicts the drawings.

Which was on a backpack of its own. So, officially, out of the box, in the best possible case where they put both backpacks into the blister, the model had option between a cape or a banner. Meaning it still had one piece of cloth at best, while the updated model had two (cape and tabard) and the primaris has three (cape, tabard and banner). It's still a steady increase in the amount of cloth on the model, no matter how much you fake grog about it.

First update retains the pose, and adds the cape and tabard billowing in the same direction to enhance it. The second one isn't nearly as focused, and results in a significantly weaker pose and silhouette.

You're right (and IIRC the Warcom article actually mentions that the first model originally had a cape but it's gone missing), but the old ones hang straight down while the first update it's curved to work better with the pose.
