I always enjoy seeing what GPT can do for me via image-to-image generation. Here was my prompt.

If there's ever going to be a true AI driven RPG, it's going to need several constraints to keep it in check, both from the aspects of game mechanics as well as story consistency. To accomplish this, you'd likely need multiple systems, one to handle and cross-reference hard-coded rules for how certain things should operate in the world, and then another separate system to handle the creative side of things so it's not just focusing single-mindedly on mechanics.

Most systems that are out right now are just cheaping out and trying to force both of those systems to operate within a single AI, which with what we have right now is just not feasible.

From my experience (3 games adapted so far, one in the middle of a rework):
AI solo gaming is 100% doable as of right now. The dice rolling mechanic has been there for 2 years, and now with the release of Gemini, memory isn't an issue. The only issue is that it likes to recap the entire story when the chat goes on too long. You have around 500 messages before you need to export your summaries to a new chat.
I've been playing the Village of Hommlet for weeks, it's playable. The AI knows all the rooms, keeps track of monsters and doesn't respawn them.
Needless to say, it knows all the game rules and follows them, sometimes it improvises when it can't find a suitable rule for a check.

The only downside is you need real devotion to port already existing adventures to stop the AI from generating slop.

Sometimes when I prompt something, Bing gives me things I didn't ask for. Does that happen to anyone else?

pretty much this. Right now, I use AI to help me develop characters, factions, and other world-building stuff. It's also pretty good at generating items if you want some quick loot tables. You can give it parameters like

>Give each "special" weapon 2 traits like "attacking 3 targets in one turn" or "Attacks ignite enemies and the weapon does bonus damage to enemies on fire". Feel free to be creative here and think of unique traits.

The memory is almost infinite with Gemini 2.5 models. The issue is LLMs get bad when a chat goes on for too long. When I get tired, I tell it to print out all relevant chatacter sheets, as well as entire cast and plot summary. Works like a charm, but the process is quite demoralizing.

Just playing with HTML profiles and I'm surprised at the stuff you can do (well, AI I can, I couldn't do it). My lore is the shittier violent goblins are the ones that get culled and outbred by the more amicable goblins. Through natural selection, the cuter and less evil goblins will begin to flourish. The gobbo on the right like the abbo version, a genetic deadend trying to cargo cult the one on the left, not understanding why humans aren't nice to them. hey, an opportunity to post a couple of the gods from my setting I've talked about a couple times. Tried posting exactly these paragraphs as the prompts and got these pics. It's a setting where 60% of the population are halflings, so everything is from their world view instead of humans.

Dialos is the colors goddess of emotional outbursts and self control depicted in red and black. There are very few events that happen in a person's life that don't illicite an emotional response. A fresh morning breakfast made with love or a splash of anger from hitting your finger with a hammer. Many of these emotions are unexpected and visible to all around you. Some emotions are seen as negative, but its all in how you utilize their energy. Denying or smothering your inner feelings is a great sin, for Dialos teaches you must learn to forgive your outbursts and understand your thoughts just as you must not let your emotional state control your every action. The tales that center around Dialos focus on the most tragic of events paralleled by the happiest of celebrations. Of all the gods, Dialos is the most likely to be alone in the narrative, but will occassionally show up as a counterpoint to Kulun (god of pride and humility). Yeah that was a heavy part of the setting. It was designed to specifically be a high politics setting. The settings inciting incident so to speak was caused by Dialos. She got pissed at the hobgoblin god of blood (Aztec culture) and forcibly ripped all magic out of existence. Didn't think it through though cause it meant none of the gods could interact with the world any longer and all the races were suddenly abandoned by their gods.
The halfing gods were universally accepted as being the "right" ones cause there was obvious proof they existed.

I think AI image-to-image tech will help out homebrew module makers who want to up their PDF game. Really pump out some nice artwork to fill pages. Rather than some shitty MS paint, you can get some nice looking visuals for your work. If you have a general idea of what you want, a simple sketch can go a long way with the right AI tools.

Some additional prompting is required to fine-tune stuff, but you usually don't need more than 2 or 3 tries at most if you want something simple on GPT. For everything else, local gen can cover a lot of bases. Here's a robot-faced shopkeeper for my si-fi setting I'd gen'd locally.

I've heard local is getting better image-to-image tech as of late, but I haven't had a chance to try it myself. I'm still using A1111. I need to upgrade to comfy UI or one of the newer APIs. I'll have to do some research into that because I'd love to do image-to-image locally.

I've been using perchance for some time now and while it does have some issues and the negative prompt can be a bit silly at times I find it's let me make some of the dumb stuff easier than bing and I love the massive prompt space and adjustable prompt box and all the features like the negative prompt, and some gens having tons of features and options to set before even writing your prompt and tons of art styles. it's my goto and will be for some time probably. Especially with the planned text update coming this year (supposedly December) that will update and improve the chatbots (so one can hope).
