What's a good way to get into EDH and build a decent base of cards? I haven't played since Zendikar and that was only for a year, and before that I played a lot from 5th edition through 8th. So I have no cards anymore.
Would grabbing a pre-con and a box of Commander Legends be an ok way to start? I don't expect anything amazing, just to have a batch of stuff to build on.

>>96035617Please consult the flowchart
>>96035628destroying your own lands is not MLD
>>96035615Fuckin sold em and made a decent penny, thinking I moved on from the game. Now that I have the spare time and can better afford a hobby, thought about getting back into it. Always felt the itch though and during the time I played, I thought Standard was rotating too fast, and judging from what I've read, Standard rotates even faster now. So I thought maybe Commander would be the way to go, with as open as it is.
>>96035568>orzhov legend is a black nigger>using the tranny syr againI'm getting tired boss
>>96035546I think that's a good place to start. That's what I did, I bought every precon available at the time and a couple of boxes and upgraded them with what I had. Not the most efficient way to build decks, tho. You'll still get a lot of good cards but it'll be a toss up if you ever use most of them.

MLD is bracket 3 at best nosewater and Gavin are retards
>>96035690Sorry sweaty this is a bracket 3 game, you're going to have to take your MLD and Early-Game Combo to a different table.
Anyway I cast "Do the thing" which does the thing once for each opponent I have and lets me draw 3 cards off of my commander who says 'whenever I do the thing I draw a card and make a thing token'.

Asking it to be more concise:
>Yes, this is a tendency thatโs quite common in autistic people. Many autistic individuals have intense, focused interests, and thereโs often a strong drive to combine those interests โ like wanting favorite characters to appear in a game they love or imagining crossovers between unrelated shows. Itโs a way of maximizing enjoyment by bringing together things that already bring them comfort or excitement, and it often reflects how autistic minds naturally look for patterns, connections, and coherent systems.>While itโs not something every autistic person does, it is a recognizable and frequent trait in autistic thinking โ much more so than in neurotypical people. So if youโre noticing someone often assumes that two things they like would be better together, that could be a small but real clue pointing toward an autistic way of engaging with the world.

Ending it all is indeed preferable to morphing into the fortnite card game starring Tinybones, Loot and Fblthp. It's selling out plain and simple. As I said earlier, they're late to every trend, even selling out and I can only hope that means they'll just be late to dying. Izzet is all about instants and sorceries so playing enchants just isn't viable, and I believe in the potential for a rakdos forced combat commander but they've never printed one, same for dimir. But there's sultai enchantress which lets you play a lot of dimir.
>>combat tricks>boros owns that archetypeOkay. Tell that to Zethi I guess.

>>96037002NTA but they have unfortunate overlap with lands. There are already lands that were rooms, War Room for one. And a lot of lands depict rooms on their art. Cannot fucking believe they printed Rooms the same year as the fucking Clue lands.
The Rooms of Duskmourn were tied to the fact the whole place is a haunted house, that logic doesn't really apply anywhere else. It never made sense for rooms in a house to be fucking enchantments in the first place, it's purely so they would have synergies in an enchantment-heavy set.
Whatever the case though, you just won't see Rooms again unless there is a return to Duskmourn or something. It's as simple as that. What was the last new mechanic that actually got support in other sets? Adventures? WotC just shits out a new mechanic every set for the draft environment and then forgets about it. No one needs to read that shit to get it. You look at the art of a card and see something happening, or read "werewolf" in the text and you just get what the setting is supposed to be.
Then faggots like you come along like
>actually I'm a vile insect in human form and the identity of this game doesn't matter to me so it might as well not have one.You would play the game regardless. People who give a fuck about the game's identity wouldn't, and your insectoid fucking brain just says it's fine to devour things that matter to other people as long as you consume enough matter to lay your fucking eggs. It's genuinely vile.
You wouldn't like it if the next 5 years of set were all focused on storytelling with the trade off being that the cards are literally unplayable. But that isn't a problem because you can have thematic cards with good text. Meanwhile what you want actually does come at the expense of an aspect of the game that matters to other people and you don't care so long as you get what you want.

>>96037314You should probably just stop playing the game. You lost. Get over it.
>>96037332The best way to make morph good is to make the creatures on the other side good. Part of the reason why morph is ass is cause there's basically no surprise factor to it, and creatures are rarely less expensive when flipping them. If playing a morphed creature + flipping it was ALWAYS cheaper than hardcasting it or they always had a flip effect that made it worth it, it might be useful. Similarly, if there were more creatures with morph that were good, it might not be a situation where you play the one creature with morph in your deck facedown and everyone already knows what it is.
One of my pods has decided to proxy bracket four decks, so I can finally cut loose with decks I've been wanting to build. It's a little hard deciding where to start.

In Legions where literally every card in the set was a creature it still was shit because even though there were some creatures that were cheap-ish and had good flip abilities, it was almost impossible to accumulate a group of them large enough to actually have people leave one unblocked so you could even trigger it. If the actual morph cost was 2 and nothing else changed, only a half-dozen cards at most would be broken.

>>96036174>activate only as a sorceryMan, they just couldn't help themselves.
>>96037207Did they? That would probably be a reasonable change but it's hard to tell what they're thinking with these rules changes.
>>96037136That's kind of cool. Even if removing abilities really limits somethings it also opens a few doors for the downside creatures. Besides that, he's effectively the best skeleton commander just from the get isn't he?
>>96037169>the humans need to be kept alive to be scaredDid he feed off their fear like Pennywise then?
>>96037849Valgavoth did, yeah. It was really dumb because they had to come up with a reason humans would live and breed in a universe where they are literally preyed upon constantly in a nightmare hellscape.
They supposedly had "safe zones" where people could live safely, but they still had to venture into the house for food and shit
>>96037291Estimate from Moxfield. A lot more than i thought it would be. I've been playing and upgrading this one for nearing a year now so that price really snuck up on me.
>>96037534I've seen some try to build her. I can appreciate the effort but she really needs a lot of help to get going. Feels like she'd be better as a supporter than a lead.
>>96037770That seems promising. Even outside of a Sliver deck.
>>96037914Too expensive. Would not run in either my gargos or Shelob decks,
>>96037930it's free removal in mono green anon
>>96037914The vigilance is nice. But with how this is built it needed more to be better than any of the other green bite spells that are cheaper or have some better upside.
>>96037948There's spells that cost less but don't have the "bonus" and there's spells at the same price point that have a better bonus.
>>96037770>6 manaIt's shit outside of sliver decks and changling decks.
>>96037361Combos are boring and for midwits BUT if it requires 10+ mana to pull off, you aren't just durdling for pieces, and you aren't tutoring for its tolerable
>think Gideon, Champion of Justice looks really fucking cool on his art
>his effects range from "it's ok i guess" to actually incredibly fucking detrimental as hell in the midrange deck I'm building
>mfw he looks rad enough that I'm putting him in anyway and am going to dick over my own chances of winning when the voices in my head tell me to pull the trigger on that -15 loyalty effect
>>96037986>the card with affinity for slivers is bad outside of decks that don't have sliversAre you legitimately retarded? Like with a diagnosis?
>>96037914Vigilance on instant speed is kinda useless. The only usecase that comes to mind is playing it at the beginning of combat in Marisi. And even there I wouldn't play it. Might as well play an equipment that gives vigilance or an actual good removal spell.
>>96037361Infinite combos are so easy to assemble in EDH you're basically sandbagging if you don't use them.
>>96037914Its novel but ill stick to Beast Within
>>96038143Specific color auras and abilities become better over time as more gold creatures get printed to be commanders
>>96037914That art looks like a 40k Ork attacking a tempestus scion
>>96038176Shit, not the scion I meant the Vespids. The other ones from that Kill-Team box. The bug dudes.
When should I cut ramp? If my curve is fairly low, my commander is 2 mana (in Rakdos colors, say) is it even worth running like 6 pieces of ramp or just have more gas instead
>>960379866 MANA???? FOR AN ARTIFACT???? OH NOOOOOOOOOOO
>welds it into playHOW AM I GOING TO AFFORD 6 (SIX) COLORLESS MANA????
>untaps mana vault with voltaic keyIT CAN'T BE DONE
>masterfully transmutes a treasureHAS ANYONE EVER MADE 6 MANA BEFORE????
>activates metal workerHOW COULD ONE MERE MORTAL EVEN THINK ACHIEVING 6 MANA IS POSSIBLE?
>polymorphs an artifactAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>uses 3 different sol lands to add 6 colorless mana to my mana pool*passes out and shits my pants*
>bystander uses reprinted S&T to clean up my diarrhea
>>96038186Never. More mana, more spells per turn.
>>96038186Even if your curve is low, ramp means you can play even more of it when you need it.
Just make sure you also have draw to get the cards to play
>>96038186It depends on what you want to execute. just because your deck doesn't have high CMC doesn't mean you don't want to blow a ton of mana every turn. Especially if you are trying to play and draw a bunch of cards in quick succession to maximize triggers or something. I'd say six pieces of ramp is fine so long as you have the draw power to cash out on that promise. And don't forget to account for how many tax abilities people run in the format where having a couple extra mana up can save your ass from the fire.
The other benefit of lots of ramp is it means on later turns if you get it you can just use the ramp incidentally without really disrupting whatever you were planning to do or just pitch the cards into some other engine.
new EoE spoiler, what are we thinking?
>Krellix, Blenking Archengine {3}{U}{R}
>Legendary Artifact Creature - Construct
>4/5
>Whenever Krellix, Blenking Archengine enters the battlefield or blenkers, you may scrindle target artifact or creature you control. If you do, flexorize it and draw a card.
>{2}{U}: Glimshift - Until end of turn, Krellix gains hexproof and may recurvate as though it had flash.
>{1}{R}, {T}: Thrindle Krellix. If you do, exile the top two cards of your library. You may frasticate one of them until end of turn.
>Overtune - Whenever you snarkle a noncreature spell, you may untap Krellix. If you overblinked this turn, instead uptwizzle it and deal 2 damage to any target.
>>96038216bomb in limited
So Lander tokens have made Rampant Growth and similarly costed basic tutors totally irrelevant and obsolete. Very cool design Wizards! Love the long term prospects for this game!
>>96038098I mostly want it for key word decks. Something that makes two colorless creatures with haste and double strike is something that could get some value.
>>96038230>5 mana to do the work of a 2-drop spell, all for a bonus of a 3/3!I would rather run rampant growth than this
>>96038230How many lander token makers have we seen so far? There's this and I believe there was a simic one that was shared recently.
>>96038230You are delusional if you think this is as good or better than rampant growth
>>96038242If there's a colorless card that makes 'em they'll probably become relevant.

>>96038250wow, SIX mana ramp in red, incredible
>>96038270It can be done over two turns. Red can also do some stupid stuff with it being an ETB. IT's not good by any means but people might find a use for it.
>>96038276>at the beginning of hte end step on your next turn, sacrifice that tokenIt's shit

Chat, question for Golbez. Regardless if doing cheerios or not your opinion on running Encroaching Mycosynth to make sure you never brick your ability to surveil?
>>96038431Seems like a good idea honestly, just make sure you have some protection which you should in blue anyway

>>96038502>>96038520Black one will be Cabal Coffers or for each creature in your graveyard
Red one will be for each damage you dealt this turn.
Noob question: if I swing with a Myriad token while I have a token doubling effect like Parallel Lives out, is that token created attacking as well?
>>96038596The tokens are created tapped and attacking, yeah.
>>96038585>Black one will be Cabal Coffersbitch, you wish lmao
it's way worse
>>96038736Have we seen it yet? I just meant it could have the effect of it, not that it would be anywhere near as good.
All the station/spacecraft cards are actually so fucking bad. The power level of this set must be insanely low considering these cards dont even seem playable in EDH
>>96038746Station is kind of a bad mechanic. Especially in multiplayer where tapping out your board for anything other than killing someone gets you killed in return.
>>96036174Holy fuck they really have just added safety values to everything in this set. Why is the ability at sorcery speed?
>>96038741Not that anon but no, not yet.
My guess is mana for creatures that have died.
>>96038356Tashaโs Heinous Laughter, and take two end steps.
>>96037004The 20+ on this card is never going to happen considering it's sorcery speed. This is just a shit Thran Dynamo you can use as a commander
>>96038746I'm trying to wrap my head around why all of them seem to have some double digital requirement to turn on. You're begging to get btfo after tapping down your board for two turns in a two like a doofus. Usually I think dies to removal is a pretty weak argument but it's impossible to ignore how badly you get fucked for dumping resources into one of these. Have they just not revealed the reasonable ones yet?
>>96038754>>96038741>>96038736>>96038585Why do you all act like we haven't seen it yet? It's card draw.
>>96038781Probably because I had not seen it yet
Good to know it's a worse Tower
>>96038781Holy fuck this is bad.
>>96038780I just don't know how you can fix it. Half of them dont even do anything when you play them unless you also tap 6-12 power of creatures into them.
The other ones are lands that come into play tapped, requires 12-20 resource investment at sorcery speed and even after that the ability of the land has a cost to activate
>>96038781Surprised they didn't just go with the original cycle
>>96038796Maybe there are a fuck ton of proliferate effects we haven't seen yet, but even then I'd still be skeptical.
>>96038811Probably because it'd suck.
>>96038811Serra my beloved...
>DOCTOR Eggman
>does not have the doctor subtype
>>96038760im starting to dislike this woman...
>>96038821Dr is his first name, it's complicated.
>>96038796>>96038780Eh, I might add the blue one in Mishra and maybe a few more space stations. Mishra and the warform already tap for 9 power, the rest is easy to do and the payoff good.
12 is a lot, but this is also the format where people flood the board with tokens regularly. Many green decks should also easily be able to get them online if they wanted to.
>>96038780Even the mythic ones revealed so far are awful, so it seems unlikely
>>96038821He's a doctor of science
>>96038821>1 mana too much to be playable sad
Why the flying fuck are these shitty planets eating up a rare slot when theyโre tap lands that require you to waste attacking just to juice their shitty, non-free ability? They arenโt even legendary. Put that trash in uncommon at least

>>96038502>>96038520>white SanctumI would honestly be shocked. They didnโt do a sanctum retread in either Ixalan visit, despite us getting Cradle and Academy variants there, and the set doesnโt seem to have much of an enchantment theme to support it. Iโd also be vaguely annoyed, since the deck I have that would want a second Sanctum doesnโt run enough creatures to consistently turn that on.
>>96038186Ramp is largely a meme in edh. Hit your land drops consistently thats much more important than ramp
>>96038356How the fuck do you require assistance for a Hope deck
>>96038746This but the exact opposite.

>>96039891Iโm expecting Sliver Hive
>>96039854It goes to exile where the only way to get it back from is to pay the overpriced normal cost. With evoke you can at least still reanimate your creatures at a low cost.
>>96039904Esper got too much fun enchantment related stuff so I dont see why I would play him for enchantment.
legendary matters is a deck type I dont like. Skip for me.
>>96039918with these artworks and text boxes? i wont be holding my breath. you can get a fake old border right now on the cheap.
>>96039928on top of the best evoke creatures being effectively free
>>96039944Didnโt even know the price had plummeted, shit had gone up to $50 when the precon came out
>>96039854>but its just a powercrept evoke pretty muchI bet you question why first strike in double strike both exist at the same time as well
It doesn't matter that on paper it's more powerful than evoke because the CMC and costs of the cards are going to be rebalanced accordingly to that
I think it's my favorite new mechanic in a long time
Been mulling over a "flash tribal" deck for weeks, but most Jeskai and Azorius legends feel lame to me. Then WotC goes and drops this right in my lap.
>>96039478Gotta start somewhere. Id grab one
>>96039566Hint: creatures arent the only spells in the game
>>96040019>etb but.... TWICE!?You have terrible taste anon and your attempted argument is not analogous. You're dumb im sorry.
>>96039928So true every color is awesome at reanimation and grave hate doesn't exist! The graveyard is a much safer and better place to keep cards you dont want being interacted with. And lets not forget warp is printed with FIRE design in mind and the cards will simply objectively be better. There are 5 genuinely playable evoke cards and hardly any of them see play.
>>96040211given how awful Station is, I don't think "designed with FIRE in mind" is the best argument to apply to EOE mechanics.
>>96040227Station is very good though
>noooooo if I tap a single creature NOT to attack ill instantly lose the game wtf wotc!!!!
>>96040243>a single creaturegreat, see you in ten turns when your 6 mana artifact is actually allowed to do something
>>96040250Station adds charges equal to their power numbnuts
>>96040271>dumping your big beaters into a Station card instead of just swinging with them>casting 6 mana do-nothings AND tapping down attackers/blockers every turn so they can keep doing nothing for several more turns>all the big effects revealed so far require 10+ charge countersbut yeah I'm sure your turn 8 Stuffy Doll+Dawnsire combo will really pop off
>>96040304Mr no games there isnt always a good attack :) Mr no games you can have an excess of creatures that wont quite break throigh to do anything but can still be put to use. It's not hard. You're just bad at magic and thats okay.
>>96040310>there isn't a good attack!>better tap down blockers
>>96040304>Tapping attackers/blockers every turnIf I really do that, I'd supercharge these things multiple times over. Fuck, many creatures aren't even supposed to experience combat.
>>96040319Did you just start playing recently because of Final Fantasy? Do you not know what wide and tall mean yet?
