Volkus is fine, but this one is the cooler dollhouse playset.
I do admit it could use some carved insulation foam dunes, but that's up to the hobbyist.

So once the basic bitch space marine and legionary teams gets phased out their gonna have a new one come out most likely yes?
>>96040653First one is alread on its way in the new Warhammer heroes thing like you can see.
Terminators in Kill Team when? I can see a Team of 2-3 Termies and Serfs being introduced at some point.
Reposting from last thread, has someone tried Raveners yet? How they are?
>>96040590Thanks
What traitor legion should get a team next?
>>96040813Emporers child would be the logical order no?
>>96040766I have not played a full game, but I have tested them a little bit. They are not as good in melee as you think, and they rely on the tunnels a lot. The wrecker and the poisonous talon guy are your only real melee specialists. Your only source of range is the poison spitter. The tremorscythe is really useful for interrupting plays and pretty much should be tunneling almost all the time.
I have little experience using the tunnels overall, but it seems like you really should focus them around objectives or key choke points as much as possible, but focus on objectives more so.
>>96040653You think they are going to fully phase them out? Having a generic team has its benefits. But yeah, maybe the legionnaires can be more specialized.
How long does it take yall to play a full game?
We played our first game ever with me running it yesterday and got to the bottom of the second turning point in about 2hrs
Im assuming we’re going pretty slow since we’re new
>>96041022Yea it is normal to be slow at the start, But how long it takes depends a bit on mission/teams/opponent. Usually at least 45 min (without setup) but normally around one and a half to two houres is normal for us.
>>96040892>tunnels how do they work?So can you spend the whole game underground like someone said on the other thread?
Planning out bits distribution, is there any case for a melee other than the power fist on the AoD assault sergeant?
>>96041609Not in normal matches, you need to make points by killing and missions after all.
>>96041609You can, but with only 5 bodies to go around its a losing strategy
Also any operatives underground when the game ends are incapacitated and therefore give your opponent free kill points
>>96041623Isn't power fist the worst option?
>>96041653Is it? I always assumed it was best since it's the only one that can 2 shot other marines and anything else is gonna die in 2 hits anyway
>>96041665Not a marine player and the only one i know uses pplasma pistol chainsword and some time ago everyone complained about the captain just being shit so no idea, it was a genuine question.
>>96041697The sergeants have the better passives than the captain, and yeah plasma is probably better into most things. Fist does 5/7 damage and with the rending chapter tactic you can just 2 shot a marine if you roll a six which is probably a strong option to have.
I only have one fist currently while also wanting to build a jump pack squad for bighammer where everyone squad leader wants fists, for some reason legionaries are the only marine team where the leader can use fist and plasma while everyone else has to gimp their loadout
>>96041623Hitting on 3+ makes the sword more reliable. It will work against anything you throw it at. Power fist is a bit better against specifically 7 wound guardsmen and 14 wound marines if you take the rending talent (though even then, it's not especially reliable), but it's significantly worse at all the other matchups. 8 wounds is a really common wound count in the game so for most matchups, power sword is the go-to.
Chainsword of course is valuable for giving you the plasma pistol. Honestly not sure if it's the best in slot this edition (it certainly used to be when plasma pistol hit like a 5/6 piercing 2 truck but with the edition change it's a lot worse so who knows), but it's a valuable option at least.
Finally I'm pretty sure thunder hammer is the actual worst option. Unreliable like the fist but without the important thresholds it clears, and all you get for it is a stun rule which, if your marine sergeant gets into melee, is not something you should even aim for triggering. I can think of no matchup where it is a good pick.
>>96040520 (OP)Hello. Can I ask a question about killteams classified cycling. Is this a thing where you can never play with a killteam again after its cycled out or is it like underworlds where they are brought back. I love my arbites and would rather wait for a new edition for them to be brought back then buy a new team when they are cycled out.
>>96041855We're still in the first year so no-one knows.
Unless you're playing in tournaments just continue playing your team.
>>96041855Question 1: do you play in official GW-organized tournaments, or with friends that are so hardcore that they play using the full rules for GW-organized tournaments? (note that tournaments and tournament rules that are not specifically GW-organized are not included)
If yes: you're fucked, arbites will not be an option until they get a different team in half a decade.
If no (the vastly more likely option): the team is legal and fully playable and will receive updates until the end of the edition (at least), estimated edition change would be 2027 or so.
>>96041855afaik the old ones will only stop being "tournament legal" but it's TO's choice if they're "allowed" in the end
I don't remember if they said anything about continued rules updates, if someone else knows better
>>96041878>>96041896>>96041897Darn. Gw sure loves to get us in the balls with their planned obsolescence. I just hope they have rules to play with in each edition even if it never gets updated.
>>96041815I see, I'll just give him a power sword then.
Wish thunder hammers got treated better, right now they're just worse fists across both games and they're modeled more like thunder mallets so they're hardly cool enough to be ran anyway.
>>96041609That really won't work in the long run. Tunnels are useful for quick transports across the map or for using strategems and abilities. You need to play objectives.
To the gentleman who asked about the playing mat my buddy and I use in the last thread....reached out to him and found out he got it from the Squadgames website.
And as he said-"It was kind of expensive and it was a bit of a hassle to just get them to send it to me after paying for it, but I really do enjoy it. It might be worth looking for other ones though if you don't want to be annoyed."
So there ya go.....
>>96040520 (OP)Do people play killteam for lore and fun dioramas or is it all competitive?
>>96040830Emperors children cultists
>>96041022Depends on who I'm playing with, I've had as little as an hour 30 set up to take down and I've had 3.5 hours games. I do enjoy chatting with my opponents so games usually are 2 hours minimum
>>96042247Most people get really competitive about it to be honest. If you can find a group willing to do a narrative campaign or set of games, go for it. It is a lot of fun to build up a game like that.
Most GW games right now are filled with people who really only want to do competitive. Even goofier or more niche stuff like blood bowl or LoTR will get competitive players who don't understand wanting to pick weaker or more fun factions.
>>96042338Yeah. Not a big fan of hyper competitive stuff in wargames when they remove the enjoyment from the hobby. Killteam is competitive at a baseline that makes it easier to play against more competitive people but treating it like a tcg will be the death of gw and its games. Who wants to play killteam when it loses support and half its roster doesn't even have rules?
>>96042390There are quite a few fan rosters out there, and I believe people will probably take older teams and make rules out of them when they get phased out in future editions. Finding people and friends who don't take it that seriously is key. It depends on where you play.
My GW has a mix of tryhards and people who play for fun.
>>96042417I usually play at generic game stores on game night. I just hope support lasts for a while.
>>96042338Even though the last update messed things up, this game is probably the most balanced of all GW games, and prone to competitiveness, alongside Underworlds. You can always play with friends though, I'd rather pick a team based on lore or aesthetics than raw power. I whish they released better or more elaborated coop rules though.

>>96041855All current teams will continue to receive updates through the end of this edition, at minimum
The classified thing only matters for GW-run tournaments. Most non-GW tournaments have simply decided to ignore it afaik
>>96042247It's the sweatiest of poorhammers. But its also, mechanically, better than mainline 40k.
Theres room for both fluffy squads as well as crunchy cheesebeards and the game is balanced enough you can pit them against each other and still have a shot and fun.
>>96042247KT is suuuuuper sweaty. if the bighammer "oh your toe is exposed now i can shoot you off the table" is annoying, KT will be 10x worse
the enjoyment is really, really predicated on opponent quality. i can't imagine going to a tournament
>>96042880This is one of the reasons why its good etiquette to play by intent
Declare the intention of each players moves to avoid the 'oh haha I can see the tip of your sword and now you're dead' moments
>>96042880>>96042912Man, I wish kt just used the rules of base silhouette and ignoring pointy bits.
>>96042996It does if youre not in Engage.
Are chaos cult a fun kill team? They look neat, but I get the feeling they sort of just wait around until they get a lot of mutants and then move in.
So far, who would you guys say are the most fun kill teams? I really like blooded and wrecka krew. Mandrakes seem like the least fun to me so far. They kind of rely too much on the board.

Next season they should make a generic terrain set for special rules-less KT games, but still thematically unique compared to other terrain kits. Maybe recreate Sector Fronteris with some extra bits from Nachmund so you can have two 2 floor spots or one 3 floor spot and plenty of simple walls.

I am going to play my first game tonight. Do you have any general suggestion or things I should keep in mind?
>>96045602>things I should keep in mind?The rules
>>96044182You do have the option of playing on open boards anon
>>96045602Properly position and not exposing your damage dealers to enemy shooting is one of the most important things. it is better not to try the "shot" if the odds are to bad and your operative gets to exposed. new players either are to agressive with attacks and expose themselfs or to passive and don't advance to the objective at all.
>>96045613I already read the rulebook. I doubt I'll remember everything first try but the game is supposed to be an introductory one with a more expert player, so it's going to be fine.
>>96045661Thank you. That's exactly what I was searching for
>>96045602check every possible LOS when you move your dudes. game of mm played in inches
>>96045687>I already read the rulebookdoesn't matter, you will still have to go back and forth between the game and the rules to check that you got everything right
>>96043094Hated playing em myself. Great hobby though.
>>96040520 (OP)I missed the discourse around the new gatcha set but is there any chance they'll add them to the AoD Kill Team?
I mean, If they want to make a Dark Angels team I'd rather they get a proper multipart set with a power sword wielding sergeant, a watcher in the dark, a relic plasma cannon, ettc.
>TQI like the early 00's era foam mold terrain like that dwarf watchtower and the ruined chimera turned into a bunker. It had soul. And the Cities of Death terrain. Looked properly gothic without being cluttered with pointless little details.
>>96046195They are supposed to be a stand alone team for now. Like last edition strike force justian (that formed the AoD team together with intercession this edition) so it is more likely that they replace the AoD team or get added to them next edition.
>>96046195Judging by the datacards and the way they are described, the new team will be separate from AoD. Chances are also that it'll barely feel like a dark angels team, and more like another generic marine team.
>>96046223Given the fact that they all look fairly standard and aren't drabbed in cloaks/dark angels iconography id say there basically generic marines that come in green plastic
>>96046220AoD will still be around for another couple years yet, so this new team will just be an additional marine team
>>96046451>next edition.Yes for this edition at least. we will see what next edition brings.

Are they the highest health Kill Team? They beat Raveners in health, but is there some other random team that has more? The Orks feel like they stick around longer than Plague Marines depending on the matchup; they lose five bodies and then still have six bodies left; quite the staying power.
>>96046568Chaos cult has same and even more potential wounds thx to the mutation.
Nice to hear about the new team being released, I sure am looking forward to buying all these gacha boxes to find all the models
Anyways here are a totally incidental set of models that I'm working on, no relation to anything nothing strange to see here
>>96047441I'm guessing the gacha boxes are being marketed towards normies. Wouldn't be surprised to see them in Target or Gamestop or some shit. If that's the case expect them to get so cheap that kitbashing will end up costing more than actually just getting the models on ebay.
>>96047550Oh sweet summer child. There where dozens of those boxes befor.
>>96047566I'm just saying these will be more like the Barnes & Noble games in so far that there will be so many produced that eventually they go on sale. Like I managed to get one of the AoS ones and Doomsday Clock for $10 each. Both had at least $50 worth of models in them.
>>96047988Okay, later maybe, Never seen these things on sale in europe befor.
>>96048028I think it's a US thing and mostly has to do with chain stores wanting to clear up shelve space and still make a profit. I know that FLGS have contracts where they're not supposed to sell GW products for less than 15% off but I imagine bigger stores can ignore this stipulation due to perceived more power, ie they won't carry a product and it won't affect their bottom line.
>>96048114I heared Warhammer is more expensive over in the US. Maybe that is one of the reasons.
>>96047550Pretty sure it's mainly for japan, they love gambling over there, and there's lots of space marine heroes stuff still floating around their market
Target and B&N are probably just easy outlets for things like that as they're doing it
>>96046568Is it really that much worse to take the flamer over another boy? I love the model but keep hearing he performs really poorly
>>96049110The shooting is meh (saturate and 2+ is good but less crit damage stings), melee is just flat worse (bad for operatives with 8 range) and no granades.
>>96049110On open boards it can be a matter of preference (and whether you take choppas)
On ITD gaining lethal 5+ really makes him more threatening
>>96049110He is good in enclosed maps where it is harder to get saves from him, but it generally is better to take a boy for better melee and the free grenades. If they made him have better melee by default, that would make him a worthwhile choice.
>>96040813Alpha legion would probably be best. Not only are visually distinct from other heretics, they perfectly fit kill team thematically
So.....advise.....dealing with smoke grenades and that annoying Obscuring.
In a recent game (Sisters against Phobos marines-yes not the best even match up ill admit....) my buddy brought along 4 smoke grenades cause phobos can do that...
the freaking obscuring from them saved him from about 7-10 crits and about a dozen straight up normal hits....he should have had 3 dead marines in the first 2 turns but obscuring saved hisass.....
>>96051998Unless you have obscurement-ignoring abilities, getting within 2" of the target is all you can do. Biggest advice is to never take the shot on the target if they're obscured, because you'll deal zero damage at the cost of exposing your own model.
If that's a homebrew translation of compendium sisters and you're wondering how to do that without being forced to put yourself in a bad position that costs you too much, all I can say is to expect to lose if you play compendium vs non-compendium.
>>96052118they are the...2020? Sisters. They tend to do alright....50/50 win loss rate between me and my buddy
and I forgot about the 2" rule...will have to remember that next time....
>>96052556I'll assume you mean that they're from KT21, I'd be surprised if you've somehow transplanted KT18 rules into KT24.
I think you'll likely eventually find that as the two of you get better at the game, the compendium team will start falling behind. KT24 lowered its power level a tad from KT21 but winning with compendium teams in a competent environment used to be almost impossible for some teams. It felt a lot like current kasrkin, but worse.
>>96049171>>96049613>>96050889Makes sense. It's a shame since the burna boy is maybe my favorite model in the team, but I can't deny his weak melee and no extra tac grenades feels rough
>>96052874BUUUUT, not playing the optimal list and playing the models you like is always reccomendet against casual players and kommandoes are a fun army anyways.
>>96042531>Termies might be too muchdidnt we have custodians at some point
>>96054193At the very beginning of last edition, yes. And they where not balanced at all and didn't really work.
>>96054193>>96054205and you needed SoS to have a hope of winning
>>96054308Well, they needed that after getting their most broken ploy nerfed into the ground. Before that 4 man custard teams had an absolutely ridiculous winrate (I may misremember but I recall that they had an 85% winrate, and that included mirrormatches when they were one of the most commonly played teams).
The reason why is obvious - the more elite a team gets, the harder it is to properly balance them because the player is essentially putting all their eggs in very few baskets. Make that basket fall iver too easily and the team loses too many eggs to compete way too easily; make it too sturdy and it won't even be worth it for the enemy to try and spill them. Teams like that have to both have creative new mechanics given to them and be extremely tightly balanced to not make the experience frustrating for one or both players.
And yes, I do believe raveners will suffer from this as well. It remains to be seen how it'll go, they at least don't have a 2+ save to stonewall small-arms fire, but getting them right will be difficult. Hell, the thing that made custodes so broken on release, the ability to zip across the board in a single activation and then kill multiple important models - raveners have that, but with a blast weapon and even longer range (albeit a bit more restrictive in where they can target it).
>>96054193Compendium was basically a bandaid so KT21 didn't launch with only 2 teams
>>96052630>transplanted KT18 rules into KT24Wouldn't a large portion of it just be translating the kindergarten movement symbols?
>>96054700Well no, You mean from KT21 to KT24 (and even there it can be a bit more complicated) but KT18 is a completly different system.
Quick question on two timing windows:
Piercing Crits and Devastating. Do these occur before or after crits are removed for the purposes of an obscured shot. Basically do they do they thing still if the shot is obscured?
>>96054833Against Obscured? They simply don't happen; Obscured forbids critical hits.
>>96054833After obscure did its thing: "Each RETAINED critical success ..." ...attacker's critical sucesses are retained as normal sucesses...

>>96072762Is there a list of all the ITD specific scatter terrain somewhere? Or is it just the soulshackle pieces?

>>96070568problem: the terrain is 5" and that's past the 4" max of ladders.
>>96075349The old terrain anon posted about is something like 3" tall. It's actually the perfect height for use in KT, and customizable as hell in a cool way. Current GW couldn't make terrain as useful as it.
>>96075710Having had the luck to play on this terrain a few times I can concur, it's a perfect height for KT, kinda similar to the Volkus Strongholds if memory serves.
Also, the aethestics are peak without the inclusion of alot of unnecessary details
>>96074016I'm playing both AoD and PM but I'm using their respective Bighammer minis. I will grab this one mostly for alternative sculpts. That Plaguecaster is sexy.
>>96078014Yes, but why would you buy the small box with only 5 of the unique sculpts and not the slightly more expensive, already released, starter set with the full "heroes" ranges for both sides?
>>96078307In general I have no idea why would anyone buy the smaller one. For me specifically, I want exactly the minis included in the small box - Captain, Heavy Intercessors, Grenade throwing Intercessor, Banner Boi, Plaguecaster and the Jizzthrower. The rest is a bonus. I have no reason to pay 30eur more to get even more minis I don't really want.
As much as I despise GW, they know exactly how to milk normies, newbies and Redditor-tier hobbyists. You, me and the other Anons can do the math and call this box a scam but go check Twatter or Plebbit and see how many of those people have no fucking impulse control nor feel the need to research the box before the purchase. People buy 5 fucking Combat Patrol boxes and only then ask other brainlets if they can paint them as a different Chapter and what kind of army they can build. You may not like it but these people make the bulk of the GW customer base and they are GW's main target.
>>96078348>but go check Twatter or PlebbitMaybe one day i will, but believe it or not, 4chan is the only "social" media i use, so my view on the hobby world is a bit limited or naive.
I think kill team is cool but I am never fucking able to remember all the rules and options there are which then discourages me from playing more
half a game passes before I suddenly remember that, let's say, vantage gives you accurate or that I took faction equipment and proceeded to not use it
>>96078628KT is a clusterfuck of special rules and there is no need for 90% of gubbins GW wants you to buy to play the game.
>>96078628After several games of killteam I watched the Ravender vs Battleclade on mountainside tabletop and they were all like "acurate 2 on vantage"
Neither me nor my opponents had known the acurate 1 rule for vantage.
>>96079236tbqh Im starting to consider getting gallowdark just to not have to deal with vantage and all its rules because Im a brainlet

>>96073318damn this was a banger box
>>96073949There's still a few copies of the Darktide box at my LGS

>>96079808Kommandos and wrecka are like that. Blooded can get like that, but you have to keep some heavy hitters in the back line until you get enough blooded tokens. Chaos cult, from what I hear, is pretty brainless outside of waiting for mutations and picking what suits the map/team you are dealing with. Angels of death requires little thought, but so do most of the elite teams.
Ratlings get 3 ogryn, but they really require good positioning and placement to work.
Second time playing the newest edition. I miss group activations. Stingwings(cause they looked cool) vs Legionary. What the hell do I do? My opponent effectivly has 4 APL because I'll always have more operators than him. What are some tips?
>>96081837>What are some tips?Shelve vespids until better times (if they ever come for them)
>>96078628I feel that, but honestly the best bet for this is to just play the same team for a few games to really learn the rules. Another good option is to fire up a solo game on Tabletop Simulator, and just pick two teams that are more simple and play them against each other. It will be a lot of work to play two teams, but it means you can just take your time to look up rules and get familiar with everything at your own pace. Do like a turning point each night, and come back to it to extend your learning over a few days and it will stick better
>>96079808Any astartes team
>>96081837Group activations are still a thing, it's just a unit ability instead of a universal rule that takes up unnecessary space on most datasheets.
As for how to deal with legionaries, you've got incredible mobility and an activation advantage, so use that to initiate fights on your terms. Remember that any shot you take with even a regular gun under the effects of the drone's aura has a pretty good chance of just chunking a space marine's wound count thanks to devastating, so take those shots when you can get them.
>>96079808AoD with 6 Assault Marines
>>96079808Kommandos are what you are looking for. Along the same lines, Death Guard don't really have any combos either. Both of these are straightforward, strong army rules and datasheets
>>96084688Kommandos also rule because they have basically free tac op points on Volkus/bheta decima with the Grot

The pure Dire Avengers team is absurdly strong. They just give them every strong aspect technique with no downsides. They are absolutely OP on Gallowdark with guard. I love playing it, but it just wrecks people. How did people think this team was D tier for so long?
Well, I can finally close this chapter in my life, store the minis and never use them in a game.
>>96095993They were extremely weak last edition and there isn't anything about them that immediately jumps out as new and extrmely powerful, I guess. On top of that, not a particularly popular team what I've understood. Being able to get lethal 5+ as a new thing though, that's really good. As is the buff to defence tactics.
What loadout for the dire avenger leader do you run, by the way? Every time I've looked at the datasheet it has seemed hard to say which would be best.

I am back from my second game of KT and holy fuck I got fucked. Played Mandrakes (first time playing them) Vs Yaegirs and I had no expectations of actually winning, but I honestly couldn't see any way to actually damage his models without getting blasted off in return. Even my melee specialists got stonewalled by his abilities to endure damage, and the little shooting I managed to do did very little.
Has somebody some suggestions for playing Mandrakes?
>>96107846What odds are we looking at for a hypothetical replacement kit to be anywhere near as good as the current veteran box
Personally I like the bits overall but the leaning over slow walk leg poses weren't the best
But then again, any new kit is going to have thr legs and torso glued together in a DYNAMIC POSE so that will be a sidegrade at best
>>96108244Hopefully they learned from the Sanguinary Guard debacle and the models aren't plain Jane and have at least as much detail (pouches and stuff) and the original DW vets. If it's a KT kit then odds are good this won't be the case as most KT models have a good amount of detail and character if only from their upgrade sprue. If it's a regular 40k kit the chances of it being lame go up by a factor of 2.
>>96108013Mandrakes live and die off of their tac op. I take Plant Beacon to abuse their ability to teleport around the battlefield.
Hug cover. You can phase right through walls or change a model’s order on demand with the tactical ploys. Strategic ploys all rely on being within shadow as well.
>>96107846>>96108244>>96108800They will most likely be pissmaris therefore trash
>>96110023lmao
>>96108244based on the old DW kit and the fact that every single imperial agents kit is more interesting than some other entire armies fairly high
I played my first game into Raveners, I was piloting Kasrkins.
During the game, after seeing where my opponent placed his models and tunnels in T2 i managed to find a good spot for a melta mine. He either had to charge through it or go around it and do not contest obj at all. He chose to bite the bullet with his Ravener Prime.
I rolled for the damage and when I saw double sixes I almost jumped and fell with the chair on my back.
Now my gaming store's group says the mine is so strong it can throw you off feet.
>>96108013Yaegirs you have to either sit at range and blast them from afar or out melee them....and honestly its not THAT hard to out melee them...
Tough Survivalist really only works once a turn so double team a dorf who has used his already. Yes Plasma Knifes can be annoying. And stay away from engaging any dorfs near their Fallen Kin marker.
>>96108013your issue is probably not mandrakes in particular, but the whole game itself (though you're not doing yourself favors with mandrakes).
you need to focus down enemy operatives as hard as possible. you need to be super cagey about positioning. get a LOS pointer. often BIG turns or BIG activations are linchpin moments that decide the game
It's been like a month since I last made progress but I finally got another member of my sanctifiers team painted
This one being the extra body that I included so that I can switch out more operatives
He's a krieger that failed to die and was then picked up by the zealot band in the wake of that battle
Got to practice my small text writing
>>96111326The problem I found was that actually shooting at his models was already pretty hard with one model, let alone multiple ones. And while I could easily charge them more than often it meant that my model died to do some heavy damage, a trade that wasn't that good when he played more models than me.
>>96111817>your issue is probably not mandrakes in particular, but the whole game itselfVery possible. I am asking mainly in order to identify my issues. I probably played too aggressively as by beginning of turning point 3 I had 5 operatives dead while only killing 3 of his. I am going to try to write a battle report later.
>>96111326piggybacking to ask does this mean I should build my yaegirs with knives or does having the equipment accomplish the same thing?
>>96114797magnetizing is easy and comes with free subassembly
>>96114797personnaly...for me....depends on the map situation....im a fan of taking ladders and barricades depending on the map layout. We tend to play with many multiple levels in games so ladders are a necessity with my Yagirs lower movement. And having barricades can help..so sometimes I have to scrimp on gear...so the plasma knives I will work in if I have the equipemnt slots...deffinatley go with the ceramite armor if you're going against lots of blast or torrent weapons in the enemy list and the plasma knifes get even better if they have it already with the faction equipment.
as far as building the warriors WITH the knifes....I see the shotguns being more important to have than the revolvers....so my warriors will go with the shotguns and then will usually try and work the plasma knifes into my equipment later. Ill even go with the extra equipment to fit them in if I need them between the Reposition/Ploy/Equipment choice you makeat the start of the game
also....part of this game is playing for the objectives and NOT playing for kills. sure killing enemy units is fun...but wont win you the game every time....so learn to play for the objectives.....
>>96115131its 2025, you dont need ellipses to indicate line breaks
>>96115131yeah I just realized that every warrior having a plasma knife can work as a charge deterrent
also they just look cooler
did anyone get the starter box with the punch-out terrain? is it any good for a light bring-with-me 2 player kit?
>>96114797I've been playing them a bit recently, and honestly you will almost always want the shotguns and to just take the equipment. Their other three pieces of faction equipment are really situational, so you're never really hurting for a free slot to just take the knives. They technically roll one less die as an equipment vs. as a weapon on the datacard, but frankly you're still mostly wanting to be in midrange shooting with most units and can always pop the buffed masterful bladework on a turn where you need to really fight to go up to the 4 attacks anyways.
>>96115392it's perfect for that. If you got a cheap hardcase, you could literally fly with them in your carry on and play kill team at the terminal.

The only possible loss it might bring to others is taking the spot of a potential, hypothetical other team but a) that's more decided by the model release pipeline than anything else and b) it's more the fault of the KT team selection model having poor compatibility with a release schedule that only lets 35-ish teams exist at any one time.
>>96119611Someday there will be no kroot or vespid in kill team but we will still have 10 space marine teams and the game will be fundamentally more boring because of it.
>>96119924Yeah, because kroot and vespid players will have no options for playing
Not because space marine players have options
>>96119943All because the game is bloated with marine teams. The reason why teams will be deleted.

>>96120001No, the root cause is the team release model, not space marines getting to have fun
Your hypothetical future also forgets that when kroot and vespids are removed, we're also losing every KT21 marine team except AoD (and maybe even that team). A possible marine kill team releasing in the next box is just the first of four that need to release this edition just to maintain their existing number.

>>96120614Not even that, they specifically said that despite them not being allowed for tournaments they are still going to get faqs and similar stuff until the end of the edition.
The only real effect is that by not being allowed in official tournaments we are not going to see the winrates, so they are not going to fix if some is too strong or too weak.
I'm currently working on building two boxes of Exaction Squad (Needed some of the bits for another project but figured I'd build the full team while I was at it), and I've gotten it broken down so I can build every special option plus 4 Vigilants and 4 Subductors. I'm stumped on what to do with the remaining Proctor-Exactant though. I've built the one with the shield already, is there any benefit to me building one of the other two options or should I just kitbash him into another Vigilant using spare bits?

Old editions suck and deep down you know hence why you can’t get a game, you can still see people playing battletech and those rules are even older, why? Because they are actually good unlike previous editions of 40K, if the older editions were good then they wouldn’t have made any past that edition
Now shut up
And, further to this
>>96125332 I would like to know your opinions on which edition is best and why. I've seen people on YouTube say that Core/Elite/Commander is the best mode of play. Some prefer the shapes and symbols of 2nd. Others vote for 3rd as best because it's the newest and thus most easily accessible.
Any and all opinions are welcome, thanks.
Anyone have a good guess as to when the next season begins? KT 3.0?
>>96125391Literal delusion. 3rd-5th 40k is the best 40k rules experience and it's not even close. The only reason it's hard to get people to play them is because GW games cater to transient hobbyists who usually quit and sell their greytide before they find a reason to still play (which can include engaging with older editions).

All the big boy armour on 40mm bases is a bit unfortunate because my old frag cannon and infernus bolter are going to have to sit out (not rebasing these guys) but I'll have to wait and see how the rules of each operative looks before I make a decision about them.
It'll be great to finally have rules that feel appropriate for deathwatch veterans (assuming the rules themselves end up actually good) and that have appropriate weapon loadouts. Kit looks stellar honestly, better than I expected from what we can see so far. At some point in the future, either soon or after running out of bits depending, I'll definitely be getting a copy.
>>96124907>Take a standard primaris marine, slap on a silver arm and call it a dayIt's dogshit
>>9612561640K rules are babies first wargame. If you can't handle them, this genre of game is beyond you.
>>96125616If you're in this thread and genuinely participating in playing KT it's probably not rules difficulty that is the issue with bighammer. There are other things wrong with it.
>>96125460No announcement I think? I'm not going to scour the stream but likely september or october is when the new box comes around.
>>96125435Most people agree that for pure gameplay, KT24 is a pure and slight upgrade over KT21 (basically just a polish) and that KT21 is a huge step up from KT18. KT18 keeps some fans mainly because of list building availability, since KT24 straight up doesn't really have certain factions and others are extremely limited in what's available to them. Even for those who like listbuilding though (like me), the upgrade is often just that good that it's worth it to go KT24.
>>96125573Only the first 5 dudes count for the kiil op
>>96125761>KT24 is a pure and slight upgrade over KT21 (basically just a polish)elite favoritism means the game is still unbearably painful for half the kill teams though.
>>96120976Shotgun leader is more useful than the vigilants
>>96125650It really isnt though, the rules are both extensive and written poorly, kill team is easier
Same reason why d&d 5e is the best d&d edition to date
Please tell me the chapter specific shoulder pads can be chipped off easily so I can pretend my marines are from other chapters please don't tell me they're stuck that way. Another blow GW is doing to /yourdudes/ing
>>96126266You can always file it off.
>>96126266you could always just trade someone all the pads with symbols for blank pads since SM shoulders are all the same
>>96126266fused to the body for sure
is tomb world the next season starter box?
Anyone have good recast sites
>>96128133AoD vs DG is the starter box for the entire set, this one is essentially Hivestorm minus a few things
>>96124907As someone that actually likes some primaris designs and plays deathwatch: these look ugly. I knew dedicated deathwatch primaris were coming and I was welcoming since more options is always good, but everything about these guys is off, proportions, faces, poses.
Something went wrong.
>>96128580Also the fact they made the two heavy weapon options two separate guys makes me worry there will be zero weapon options and you'll have to pick a specific dude to come with a specific weapon.
>>96128393what do you mean set? I'm not that familiar with GW business practices in relation to kill team, or in general
>>96128632I meant to say edition, so it will be around for another 2+ years
>>96128580seems fine to me
>facesjust use helmets
>>96128601I sort of get what you're saying but besides the melee guys (probably what you're referring to), what would you miss out on? It's not like gunners typically get their own rules
>>96128580The issue is that they're just a primaris 1:1. We DW fans wanted something more, like the phobos lieutenant with the pieces of tyranid on him. This is extensively the exact same kit, down to the chapters represented of the old kit. We wanted something at least as interesting as Kill Team Cassius.
>>96128674I don't want the shield guy to come only with a maul, the sarge only with a xenophase blade, I don't want no special weapon options, no stalker bolters, etc.
>just use helmetsI should have to fix the issue for them if I'm going to pay them, and there's something off about those too.
>>96128705They seem way more flat and less detailed compared to the old vets. Which speeds up painting but takes away a lot of personality.
>>96128716>Which speeds up painting but takes away a lot of personality.Meanwhile half this thread is people complaining about to many belts and small details on models these day
>>96128393does the starter set really not have the core book that you need to play in GW stores?
>>96124907this will be a $100 killteam box once its on its own and it essentially boils down to an intercessor box with 2 phobos and 2 heavy intercessors with an upgrade sprue, lmao
>>96128738It has a booklet with stripped down rules and some starter missions to do, you'll need that core rulebook or find info online for the full rules
>>96125124>But it's impossible to convince anyone on the nuGW product treadmill to just be happy and play with complete painted armies that don't require future purchases. That's a you-problem anon. You are either not convincing enough and they don't want to play with you in particular, or you are just asking the wrong people.
>>96128738Yes, it just has a set of simple scenarios to teach you a VERY stripped down set of rules
>>96128705You DW fans are insufferable.
>>96128705>We DW fansThere is no "we". I hate the Cassius box. Customizability is king.
>>96128738Just use BattleKit for all the rules
Can't wait for one of the next teams after the DW and necron ones be the new votann memnyr strategist leader and a bunch of ironkin chaff
Chances that ITD will be fully subable for the new necron terrain?
>>96129751They said the walls will be comparable so not directly compatible with the connections but likely the same dimensions, you'll also need stuff for the rubble judging from the pictures
>>96129751Easy to see that the connectors are not compatible at all.
>>96129822>>96129751Yea they are definitly not compatible from the connectors. easy to see that. The board seems the same size and the "zones" are the same numbers as well so they should be the same size, the types or numbers of walls might be slightly different because they dont seem to have those diagonally split connectors what could lead to different arrangements.
Do you guys prefer playing on long maps or wide maps?
>>96130126I think big boards are great but all of the weapons don't have ranges so that might not work out great in the new system.
so how long until phobos are phased out?
is hivestorm going to be the 'all in one' box for a long time still? or should I hold out Idk personally, little experience with how GW releases KT boxes
>>961305572027 at the earliest, and I doubt there will be no way to field marines in Phobos armour in the next edition
>>96131099Yes, the new one has a killzone but no rulebook + equipment like Hivestorm
>>96131099just buy the fuggen box already lil nigga
or get some other set and pirate the rulebook and approved ops
>>96131099The only all inclusive box is always the LIMITED editionstarter box like hivestorm (or octarius for last edition).
>>9613055712th minimum and even then i doubt theyll be phased out until they move onto primaris 2.0 which will probably never happen
>>96125598>doesn’t engage the argument >uses ad hominemYup I truly am dealing with a mental power house who has bested me in a debate
I hear solo mode came to Kill Team. Can I get some thoughts?
>>96131779>Can I get some thoughts?yes
>>96131807that was it, sorry
>>96131820Grim. Thanks tho
>>96130557Not soon enough.
>>96131779The mode is quite bare minimum but has a few missions by now so from time to time a mission can be fun but doing it with two people (wgar the rules also suggest) is more fun.
>>96131844Does it play like full-fat Kill Team, or is it like a lite version?? (I also didn't know co-op was an option)
>>96131864Its the full version if you want it to be. Or it plays like a wave-arena shooter where your team fights against waves of low tier enemies.
You can either play alone, or have two kill teams fight along side each other as a coop mode with another player or have one team, and split the miniatures between you two.
There are no real campaign rules for long campaigns, but they did some scenarios that follow on each other, and i think this mode is particularly good to teach new players the game.
what kill team do you guys enjoying playing as the most? And who do you enjoy playing against the most?
>>96131898Alright then, awesome thanks. I'm already a 40k player but I've got a buddy who likes the setting but doesn't want to play a huge wargame, so Kill Team it was. But with solo and co-op I'm hoping I can rope them in.
>>96131864you play your team with all the available abilities and rules and NPOs have a simpler set of rules and behaviors but all the core rules still aply
Or you can also play pvp games against yourself
>>96131928you can always homebrew extra stuff like new missions and bosses, the pve is the groundwork for all that
>>96132125Has someone ever homebrewed a boss fight like against a Carnifex, or something like that?
>>96132188one channel did an angron fight before
>>96132199Lol
Isn't that a lot
Surely next balance patch they'll make the grot an okay operative to face
>>96132212well if you can do angron you can probably do a carnifex
>>96132199Could I get a link perchance?
>>96132279it's Mountainside Tabletop again
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeZ3nS40FSY
>>96132125does the kt pve stuff, contrary to newgw, actually encourage doing homebrew stuff for bossfights and whatnot?
>>96132851I can encourage my own brain to make stuff up without gw's help
>>96132851See
>>96132941 then
>>96132293Making up your own stuff is only limited by how creative you can be.
>>96132851Kt doesn’t strike me as a boss-fightey game at all
It seems it would be extremely difficult to balance as the boss would either be outgunned/outmaneuvered by tons of models or they would immediately kill everything
And depending on how you stat the boss as far as mobility the game would end up heavily favoring elite/horde teams
Dont get me wrong I wanted to do exactly what you’re talking about at one point but desu I think thats what /40krpg/ is for
Where can one download the full rules?
>>96132851You can do everything within every GW game. Why do you need them to take your hand to "encourage" you?
What KT has, and all the other games don't, is actually written rules for solo and coop. I assume that this eases the mind of some autists in terms of house rules.

>>96133389It CAN be done. Sort of. I don't know the exact parameters, but I have done it. The most successful was picrel (this was using a vehicle homebrew for KT21, so outdated rules that also involve a lot of homebrew). Some factors that I believe contributed to the fun of the scenario:
>it was an unusual occurance in a longer campaign, so when a big enemy showed up, it really got put into perspective relative to the rest. It's that "oh shit" experience when a boss shows its health bar.>it did not come alone, being supported by extra units that the players also needed to multitask to deal with and allocate appropriate resources>thanks to the homebrew vehicle rules, it wasn't a bullet sponge health bar but a dynamic and interactive enemy that encouraged engaging with some thought; a single good shot could be a huge benefit to the rest of the battle, if not outright end it, while lots of bad shots would do little but delay the enemy, so the players needed to plan ahead>even attacks that didn't deal insane damage could still have big short or long term impacts, making attacking it rewarding without making it too vulnerable (though for the power level of my players, it turned out I could've reinforced its toughness a bit)>it was selected as the boss with foreknowledge of what the players would be using, meaning they neither had some auto-win exploit option or were lacking in the tools needed to beat it
Today I bought the Kasrkin Kill Team because they look cool.
>>96133446Just read the OP my dude
>>96133743Good choice. If you want to get kino with it you could recreate the plot of the fluff from Shadowvault with the new Necrons/terrain.
>>96042152Thanks, I’ll look at getting one.
>>96124907hope they all come with helmets these boys is ugly as fuck
>>96135471have they made a kit yet that didn't include full helmets
>>96135526New Cadians have that open helmet that I don't like
>>96135526I think Incursors only come with the bare scalp heads but the Infiltrators get full helmets
>>96136073Technically yes but you still have enough helmets to go around if you wanted
>>96124907Those faces feel like a massive step back from previous space marine heads, and its not because of the asian or black features, the Flesh Tearer, Red Skorpion (Aegis) and Demolisher in particular look horrible.
The Demolisher looks so bad in direct comparison to the beared Space Wolf heads we just got, its crazy.
