The problem with a horrible edition coming out is it does affect (not effect) all the customers.
Warhammer fantasy 8th edition was garbage like this, the customer base doesn't simply keep to playing 7th edition, they waste money trying it, they lose interest in the game, new players join who never played anything but the new trash edition and don't want to learn out-of-date editions. Company sees sales plummeting and stops releasing new models or attempting to balance anything - company proceeds to kill off your entire game system. Finding models becomes harder every day as less are produced and more just get thrown in the trash by someone's wife to clear shelf-space. Can find one or two people playing the old system, but they're busy and a long drive away and you play maybe a game every year or two, hardly worth effort with no community or social aspect anymore, you eventually quit the hobby entirely and just play video games online with everyone else.

I find myself wanting to do an army of Word Bearers.
Committing to such a decision prior to any liber revelations, I put faith and surety in that my love and fondness for them outweighs any potential rules or mechanics that might attract one to collecting them. Has anyone used the plastic special weapon kit on older models?
With the new melee weapon set, I noticed the spears which are 2 handed fit quite awkwardly on the old models, so I'm not sure if its the same with the new guns since they have the bloody hands sculpted on.

The pole weapons from the plastic HH melee weapons kit are not lances either. They have a blade on the end of a long shaft, and even the small side bars below it to stop over-penetration into the target.
Lances have no bladed end but instead a sharp point, and are almost exclusively used from horseback.

- Lascannons lose Sunder
- make reactions an optional expansion rule, max 1 reaction per unit per turn, vehicles can react with non-defensive weapons against other vehicles/dreads
Bam, done. No $300 set of new rulebooks needed, no full rewritten fan rule set nobody will touch.

Even tooled-up melee elites are going to struggle to kill many models in a single combat, and if they do break their opponents they can easily wind up fighting the survivors again after they regroup. Tarpit edition. The biggest draw for melee may be the new special rule giving bonus VP for driving other units off objectives.

Coincidentally the starter box is just 249,- which is a great discount on the great MK2 marines: The contents of the BaC box now cost 371,25, while back in the day I bought the box for 180,-.
With Saturnine priced at 249,- the minis will cost about 529,71 in 5 years, don't be a fool and try to expand your army then. Be clever and do it now.
It's also the only way to the the box exclusive Consuls.
In lore your army actually preferred MK2, MK4 is too modern for them. So that's good! Don't worry about the work, because with contrast paint you will have finished the minis in no time and I swear they look much better than the old ones too. It's a blast, I also only use contrasts. Everyone does.
Good thing about speed painting like this you can start a second army sooner. With 20% discount in your LGS it's worth buying two Saturnine boxes. And you can sell the rulebook on eBay, which means the second box is actually much cheaper.
It's a total win situation. Unless the scalpers strike first. Make sure you buy the Saturnine boxes asap, as scalpers will take double price for it. GW can't produce that fast, there will be months going by before other people get another chance. Until then they can't play any HH3 game. And no tournaments of course. Being quick will give you a decent advantage on tournaments, much less competitive players there until around Christmas.

The ideal for me would be something like what they've done for titans or like 2nd Ed 40k where each vehicle has a load of systems include weapons, Locomotion, crew, targeting, etc that each have their own version of hullpoints and when a vehicle gets penned, you check the arc and roll on a hit location chart specific to the vehicle and that arc to determine what system gets hit and possibly destroyed. However, just like the designers of 40k 3rd edition realized, that method gets out of hand once you're past like 3 tanks max in army, so the hh 3.0 variation is the best one for ensuring the best combination of tanks actually being durable relative to their cost while having some counterplay in being able to be crippled.

I dislike the lessening of options on vanilla units, customization and freedom to explore loadouts for mechanical and modelling purposes is one of the great appeals of HH and marines.

If this can be 2, maybe 3 pages max that would be ideal.
