There is great joy in knowing that a certain type of person was born to be damned. The thing that surprises me more and more about Warhammer is that any character, no matter how awful their deeds, actually HAS some kind of motivation and justification for it. Like let's just say the worst thing in the universe is a traitor - that traitor is actually expecting some kind of reward out of it like they actually expect to survive to receive it and in enough cases they do receive that reward. And this is the most important thing - they actually have evidence that they will receive this reward it isn't done on faith. The Emperor's servants likewise know their sacrifice is in service to humanity, driven by faith sure, but holding the line means protecting planets and systems.

The thing about OUR world that doesn't make sense is that there are a staggering number of people out there whose effort is solely in service of fucking over other people - that the reward is making someone else's life worse while their own is unchanged. Nobody in Warhammer seems to suffer from the flaw of doing shit for the sheer joy of it EXCEPT the Chaos gods themselves - their servants all receive some kind of tangible reward. Our world is just full of people who behave like the Chaos Gods and that's just actually the baffling thing because nobody but the Chaos Gods in Warhammer behave like that.

Like I can't fucking believe nation states in our world are still shooting each other. That is straight up fucking someone for the fun of it. For example every fucking year during spring, Chinese and Indian forces in the Himalayas shoot and kill each other for a day or few days then crawl back to their frozen-ass base. Every fucking year this happens. No territory is exchanged, no diplomacy is lost or gained, it just fucking happens and it's fucking the sort of crazy bullshit Valhalla-like wargames you expect to see in the Eye of Terror.
