have you ever "ported over" fantasy races or monsters to games set in the modern world or sci-fi?

What would be some good guidelines for doing this sort of thing? Since we know what the more common fantasy races usually have in terms of mechanical advantages and disadvantages does it have to be much more difficult than to translate this into equivalent adjustments in character creation or am I missing something?

Obviously a lot would depend on shifting variables, but that's why I'm interested in examples. Closest I've gotten was to mod some fantasy races, magic and dragons into missile threat

Fuck, it's all so tiresome now. Just these inane threads of "have you/how would you do xyz (that's already been done repeatedly for decades, but we'll pretend like it's a novel concept for this shitpost thread)".

Is it just that the quality of the average poster here has dropped so significantly that we're now just a discount plebbit? Or the next generation really is just that empty-headed and lazy that they can't be bothered to get even a standard level of understanding before trying to steer discussions in what they now label as "communities"? Maybe even it's just tired mods who can't cope with the number of fake threads they have to keep recreating on a daily basis just to hide how empty this place really is, so as not to impact advertising revenue? Or it really is just the impact of constant governmental agency manipulation of 4chan as a whole, trying to drive out legitimate sincere participants in favour of this brainless, entry-level trash?

Yes, it's a regular fucking occurence for people to port things between settings and genres. No, we don't need to discuss it, just fucking do it.

Well yeah, a question like this in a post about pointless questions is something alright. You should follow your own advice and realise that no one here has anything to say that particularly matters, unless you for some reason enjoy playing traditional games as if you're being constantly watched by someone who finds fault in everything you do for any reason or none at all.

That's just a weird humiliation ritual. I reply to stupid posts then I hide the thread. I make people seethe and never have any input back from them, it's all this board is for.

well as a case study we could try and generate an elf character in a game like twilight 2000, keeping as much as possible unchanged for simplicity.

>1. Name
Players choice

>2. Gender
Players choice

>3. Nationality
Rolling a random European country we get Andorra

>4. Languages
Seems fitting that elves speak elvish, but they would also speak the national language (catalan in this case). She gets a ten in both since they're native languages

>5. Basic attributes
Using the random allocation method 2d6-2 but with and added modifier to strength (-1) and agility (+2) to reflect her being an elf we get:
STR: 7
AGL: 8
CON: 3
INT: 1 (+3)
EDU: 4
CHR: 4
since the total is below 30 we may add 3 points to bring up the average. Bumping up the INT score so she isn't a retard.

>6. Background skills
Skills gained before the character turned 17 (start of chargen). Limited list but lets take Language (french), Swimming, Survival, and Unarmed martial arts. 2 points in each. Basically reflects the attributes and gives some theme to the character.

>7. Career
This elf is pretty limited since her EDU score is so low (can't get into even undergrad uni). She can go to technical school however and study to be a pilot. This gives her 6 skill points in pilot and takes up one term (4 years). She jogs as a secondary activity putting her CON up to 4.
Since it's an elf the effects of aging will be ignored, a pretty powerful bonus if they can avoid the war breaking out.
Next a 1d10 is rolled to see if the war break out. If the result is equal or less to the term count it does. In this case it was a 6 so no war.
Next term will obviously be working as a commercial fixed-wing pilot, which we continue to do for five terms until the war finally breaks out.
Once it does that career automatically gets a commission in the air force as a transport aircraft pilot, which we note down in the final term.

>8. derived stats
Finally we note down the derived stats and complete the character

the rest would just be flavor, which you can come up with as needed for the game. As you can see the mechanical changes doesn't have to be that dramatic even in a relatively complex character creation. If needed you might add more variables to make the elf or whatever more unique.
Like if you homebrew a magic system you probably want to integrate that with the careers or if you have a world that's not earth you can come up with unique languages and nationalities and apply restrictions as needed to fit the setting. The basic mechanics remain the same but with a different coat of paint
