I use it by only firing 1 laser until the enemy is bogged down and getting dog piled. Then both lasers get shoved up their ass. 2 shots and a run on the first turn brings us to 7 heat, 2 shots and walk then brings us to 13, then we're either running behind cover as fast as we can waddle or backing off and firing only one gun until we can reach cover. It's not "ideal", but it can add a lot of weight of fire when it comes time to kill something.
Also when the Hermes II itself is about to die, then who cares about heat? Leave a glowing corpse.

Can't be battle armor. Battle armor pilots are roided up muscle mommies. I don't think any of them in any MW5 cutscene is under 7' tall. She's too cute and sexy and small to be a battle armor pilot. So she has to be a proto pilot.

Got to play that match against my brother today, doing Instant Action’s Hot Potato scenario. Close match, it was pretty even the whole game but I eked out a narrow victory. I think the only major tactical error he made was ignoring the stormbirds, those had the Hatamoto basically stunlocked from turn 1 and then knocked the poor bastard unconscious from 2 head hits and an ammo explosion. Honestly super impressed with the stormbirds in general, they also shut down the Wolverine later so my war crow could pass the bomb back to an easy target on turn 5 before it exploded at the end of turn 6. My biggest mistake was going for the black knight right after picking up the bomb; I should have built a little more distance instead of walking right up to him and only building 1 TMM. If I had been patient enough to line up a longer run/jump for the next turn I probably wouldn’t have had my heaviest mech cored out in a single turn.

Honestly, a Supernova would make perfect sense for Nova Cats. They're supposed to like lasers a lot, so Supernova is just right!

It's also a nice choice because you're almost certain to get one kill but getting more than that will require some skill.

I assume B is more reasonable? It strikes me as odd that you've got the introtech atlas, orion and centurion looking like different sized versions of each other(in terms of weapon loadout) in each weight category but no light.
Somewhat related, I think it would have made more sense with the design objective of being scary if one of the atlas' medium lasers was a head mounted eye laser.

That's one way. 6/9 -> 5/8 isn't terrible, and you can still run and fire one LL while sinking a point of heat every round. Like >>96082872 says, you generally only use one LL until you have an opportune moment. Having two large lasers on tap on a 6/9 mech is pretty solid for introtech, regardless of the heat curve.

I have been thinking about this and I wonder if part of the desire for more colorful paint schemes represents different IRL eras of interest in BT. For example, the earliest stuff is so IRL militaristic but then with Clan Invasion, things get more colorful. And now again with a lot of the renewed interest in BT coming from people brought up in the miniatures hobby with 40k, there is also a lot of interest in more colorful faction schemes.

I am going to do a SLDF lance versus Amaris Dragoons lance in the near future, where I may take some slight liberties with the SLDF scheme by adding some light gray highlights (similar to 5th Crucis) and I’m also thinking how I can make the green more interesting
I like some of the clix-era and later Davion scheme, Swordsworn and the uhh white and yellow ones can’t recall their name

so, this is probably a weird request, but I was looking for a falcon and a brigand proxy model and remember seeing an artist on cults who had both, unfortunately I didn't download it at the time, and I can't remember the artist's username. all I remember is the thumbnail style for their models. after a few days of exhausting synonyms for pirate and birb, i've decided to ask.
they were highly saturated, with bright colors and backgrounds that gave off slight dragonball vibes. The backgrounds I remember were either a grassland (pictured) or a desert with the same bright blue sky, there might have been more of them.
The models themselves were fairly simple, not super greebled or complex, but not low poly shitpost models, I never looked at them too hard, but they seemed to be unique models rather than kitbashes of MWO designs. they also had a decent number of support vehicles and convee's

I did that once with a Victor 9K. He called it his "Death's Head Atlas" and brought a 2/5 pilot for it and I headcapped it like turn 3. Funny thing was, it was the one and only time we played with weather effects and we rolled "storm", so my almost entirely missile based force was useless and that one gauss headcap was the only notable thing that I accomplished, and the other two players were able to bully me around quite effectively for the rest of the match.

2/5 big fat assault mech seems like a huge waste of BV unless you’re a gauss-bot parked in the woods for the whole game. If it was a typical atlas loadout I’d expect the thing to just eat 20+ damage every turn over and over as it struggles to get in range and eventually fails one of those PSRs. I think I’d rather go with a 3/4 pilot almost every time.

Honestly, I think the major powers should be centered around warships because it would bring the focus of the actual Mech combat gameplay back to small mercenary unit skirmishes they way it was supposed to be at the beginning. Even if the logistics of an interstellar civilization and the social structure of weird pseudo-feudal kingdoms and techno-barbarian hordes are different from the modern world It's still a bit absurd to have huge superpowers shooting at each other on actual battlefields all the damn time.

The SS unit was a joke, perhaps if you had the reading comprehension of a 12 year old you would have realised it when you read the "new swabbian" fluff.

Hell the only reason people joked about "mah nazis" in the HRE lance was because nazianon had his SS mechs in the background. You're both just gaslighting people into thinking everyone was against him from the beginning when, in reality, nobody really cared until he posted the SS mechs.

I mean, I got the exact hill shapes for 3 full maps and 2 more maps worth of miscellaneous terrain pieces for ~30-35$ worth of PLA. No need to fuck around with wood glue or whatever to stick the dowels together, and the biggest hassle was the print time and the printer wear. I'm happy with the 3d printer. It's certainly more reasonable than the headache of trying to print the mechs where I'm constantly trying to pull them out of the support trees without snapping an arm joint or whatever.
I'm not completely sold on the viability of it, but it's been an interesting experiment to say the least, and definitely the best use I've gotten out of the printer so far. Battletech terrain is definitely far more relevant to my interests and use cases than random nicknacks.

We can quibble over the exact duration if you want, but does it really matter that much? Point being I'm sick of his racist ass. Most of the time he just hides it behind a thin veneer and "teehee, my SS mechs are just barely visible in the background of this photo blurred enough so the mods won't notice the swastikas, but everyone who regularly visits these threads knows who it is" and his "oh, I'm just HISTORICAL German posting, nudge nudge wink wink", but every now and then the mask comes off and he goes on a racist rant and gets banned, but he's learned not to do that so much and gets to hide behind the pretense of civility and pretend that he's the one being oppressed when people point out that he supports a literal genocidal ideology.

Yes as can be readily demonstrated by the fascist mob currently in charge of the western world.
Intolerance itself is not a problem, it's when the subjects of tolerance and intolerance are askew that is a problem, like how sexualization of children, demonization of family values and celebration of all that is immoral are the current norms, that is a problem.

Not exactly.
More like ideology of intolerance will always try to usurp society of tolerance, which will either to failure or to the mutual destruction of both ideology of intolerance and current iteration of society of tolerance.
The later will rebuild itself eventually, but only after massive damage to society caused by ideology of intolerance

The Blazing Avengers. A Lance sized force that has grown to 6 mechs, we're hoping to capture, steal, rent, or otherwise acquire a Union or other larger dropship to carry our new mech surplus. I'm playing Tiffany Blaze, granddaughter of Billy Blaze, the original founder of the force and my favorite pilot from the previous campaign. We founded the unit in the aftermath of the previous campaign to hunt down the Steiner pilot who killed a number of our comrades. We're playing IllClan using the Hinterlands book and the materials that came with the Mercenaries box. I don't think that the SP system is perfect, but I FAR prefer it to the old accountant-tech bullshit where I needed to track every single piece of ammo and slab of armor.

>Tiffany Blaze, CO 4/5, Tactics 1
>Nominally pilots a custom FireJavelin, the family mech, but currently in the command console seat of a Jingau for the initiative bonus. My PC.

>Victor 3/5
>Normally pilots his custom HAG40 Victor, currently driving the Jingau both for BV reasons to keep our scale factor low, but also cuz he's got our best standard gunnary.

>Rain 4/5, Weapon Specialist: LRM 15.
>Former Knight of the Republic, now pilots a Viking that regularly contributes half or more of our total damage output as well as being a third of our BV in any given battle.

>Tomika 4/4
>Another granddaughter of a former campaign pilot, uses the family PHawk with 2 imp heavy LL.

>Justin Li 4/4
>The final descendant of the former campaign pilots, his grandfather was one of the pilots slain by the hated enemy Steiner pilot. Drives an Wolverine that jumps 7.

>Faceless dude whose name I forget. 4/5
>Our first hiring that wasn't a dedicated PC starting or joining the unit, he was nominally hired to pilot the Jingau but is currently kicking his heels on the dropship with the Javelin since I wanted that juicy initiative bonus.

Speaking as a "woke leftist" when we're doing the infighting with each other, it's almost always disagreements of the exact verbiage to use in a situation where we all agree that everyone deserves human rights, even the people we dislike and disagree with. When I'm arguing with right wing nutjobs, it's always them starting from a premise that I don't deserve to exist and they're trying to deny me access to lifesaving medication, equal protections under the law, or that I and/or other minorities should be jailed or killed just for existing in a way other than their exact flavor of cis straight white christian males.

He was a good person, a good father, but he was unforgivably dumb. Honestly, just like Wilhelm.
I said this ages ago on /his/ but theres a weird parallel between these two. Both their fathers died in a way that made them bitter toward specific groups(Alexander was killed by reformers and anarchists, Frederich was killed when an English doctor convinced him to ignore surgery on his throat cancer). Both weren't taught when they were suppose to have been taught, and thus weren't trained to rule. Both thought they could rule on their own merits, and for a time in the beginning it seemed fine, but they began to lose the plot so to speak.
Its tragically funny.

HRT IS the treatment. Its clinically proven to help with dysphoria and suicidiality, and the regret rate for transgender surgeries is less than a single percent. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8099405/ The regret rate for surgeries in general is 14%. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28243695/
Speaking from personal experiance, I LOVE what estrogen has done for my body. It's been amazing, and every single day I wake up loving myself instead of hating my existence and wanting to die.
And here's the real kicker: underage kids aren't getting surgery. If you're below 18, normal gender-affirming care procedure is just puberty blockers and social transitioning. If the kid concludes that they're cisgender after all, they can go off the puberty blockers and no harm done. If they affirm that they're trans once they're in their majority, then they can keep transitioning, starting with HRT. The Tennessee law and those like it don't help kids. They force trans kids to go through painful and unnecessary puberty of the wrong gender. The suffering is the only point of it.

Which one? I have 6 different /your dudes/ factions that I’ve painted up. And there’s likely going to be a 7th and 8th appearing in the near future.

So which did you want to know more about?
> The Solar expats/FedSuns house guard
> The Inner Sphere’s cheapest mercenary company on record
> Blakist puritans
> Clan Unicorn
> Deep Periphery Banana Republic ruled by an eccentric tin pot dictator with delusions of grandeur
> Private army of a Draconis Combine Zaibatsu head who’s gone full Don Quixote.

Because cooking up lore for full factions is more fun than a merc company

>Making my way around, looking at their cities, their towns, bases, etc. Just casually observing.
>Come across a battle in orbit taking place.
>Its a miniature Invader Jumpship vs two UNSC Frigates.
>It takes two MAC rounds to the body and can no longer jump. I don't have text and since I'm in spectator mode, I can zoom into the ship and see the crew frantically try and fight off the frigates with their meager armament.
>An alarm goes off and I see the crew head toward a dropship that was still attached to a docking collar as the whole ship slowly spins and aims toward the planet.
>Once the majority of the crew is on the dropship, it disconnects and begins to fall/blast away as fast as it can.
>One of the frigates dispatches miniature longswords to chase after the Dropship.
>They knock out one of its engines but the rear guns are shredding the fighters to pieces.
>Zoom back up to the Invader because the game suddenly lags, which means a big explosion happened.
>The Frigates had struck the hydrogen tanks that were within armored compartments with their MACs, splitting the ship in two.
>Its flaming wreck begins to fall toward the planet, and the Frigates zoom away to a small space station in the distance.
Space Engineers can be fun, but it can be so cinematic sometimes. I know its /v/ talk but its rare to see anything Battletech related in an open server.

Sadly no, my computer is old enough that I have to turn everything on low if I want SE to run, and taking a screenshot in the middle of a battle like that causes it to pause and hold on that for about two minutes.
From what I was able to gather, that faction was a faction that had been encroaching on their territory on the planet by way of two Jumpships. Each one held four dropships that were to pick a place to land and begin transforming it into a base. The Jumpships have fighters but they're weak and pretty slow. There is an actual Invader class Dropship on the workshop that they seemingly used for a base, because this thing is so large it takes up all the resources in a game world. Theirs was maybe a 1/10th of the size.

Depending on which group you're in, you don't. Are you from a race incapable of building and maintaining a modern civilization? Are you from a group that represents a series of genetic mistakes which aren't capable or willing to partake in heterosexual human reproduction? Are you from a group that is mentally ill? Are you from a group that has chosen to believe in a false god, or even no God at all? As long as you aren't you one of those groups, of course you deserve to exist. But I suspect you're in one or more of them. So yes you should be jailed or killed; the people to whom you refer are correct. The problem is not them, the problem is you.

I believe I do have screenshots of another battle a couple years ago. It was a small town being defended by three Urbanmechs, outfitted with modded energy weapons. They were being attacked by a warship in low orbit sending down aircraft. The aircraft managed to knock one of the Urbies down but the other two forced the wings attacking them to retreat.
Thats when the warship came in and shot them with its railguns, killing one and missing the other, and since it was so low to the ground it was technically within range of its lasers and missile launchers, and proceeded to get a few of its gunturrets destroyed before it pulled back and lobbed guided missiles at it.

>UNSC ships in Battletech
Those ships would be pure nightmare fuel. Even Frigate MAC's hit with double digit kilotons, and Archer missiles would break the back of a McKenna with a single hit. Longswords are 130 ton fighters whose crusing speed is anywhere between 20-50g's and whose sprint is above 200. It's the Mech equivalent of a Omega being able to chase down aerospace fighters. UNSC VTOL's are also really fucking good.
>Hornet
x2 AC2's and 2 SSRM2 and can piggyback power armor
>Sparrowhawk
2 AC2's and a large pulse laser.
>Vulture
4 AC2's, 2 LRM 10 Artemis and SIX FUCKING ARROW IV'S.
>Condor
BEHOLD I AM DEATH.
10, and I repeat, TEN small pulse lasers. For those not in the know, pulse lasers on aerospace and VTOL's are utterly busted. And to top this monster off it has a MAC cannon. Yes, the MAC cannons that are used on UNSC warships as backups to their spinal mounted ones. This thing can probably throw out anywhere between 50-100 standard damage and that's probably a low ball.

> Tell me of your Blakist Puritans

Ah the “Bake’s Avenging Angels” regiment. They are the militant branch of a very fanatical Blakist sect with some… puritanical beliefs. So, to summarize:
- they hate all non-Blakist religions
- they hate any Blakist sect that tolerates other religions
- they hate traditional art
- they hate digital art
- they hate AI art
- they hate sculpture
- they hate dancing
- they hate music
- they hate bright colors
- they hate soft fabrics
- they hate any literature that’s not Blakist scripture
- they hate theater
- they hate film
- they hate television
- they hate sports
- they hate games
- they hate memes
- they hate humor
- they hate alcohol
- they hate sex (or at least the enjoyment of sex)
- they hate any food that doesn’t taste like styrofoam
- they hate parties
- and they hate swimming

And like any typical cult, they have an extremely controlling culture, so it’s not only against their beliefs to engage in any of these activities, but it goes against their beliefs to allow YOU to engage in these activities either. It should go without saying, but their leaders are a bunch of preening hypocrites.

Now, this sect has been around for a very long time, maybe even shortly after the founding of the cult of Blake, but in the past, ComStar was able to… kinda-sorta control the Avenging Angels, mostly. But since the Jihad, I don’t think anyone’s holding their leash anymore.

Their mechs can be identified by the gold & silver plating on their mechs (to give them a more angelic appearance).

Space Engineers is a bit different. They don't have MAC guns per sey, just rail guns. Rail guns that require so much power and take so long to charge that they often times turn a ship off if power isnt' sufficiently supplied. More over, these Frigates were barely able to fire their MACs without momentarily suffering a half second shut down, from what I observed. None of the amazing cannons or high speed longswords here, they had a max speed of 135kph, just like warships, only difference is they hit that speed much faster. Its an inherent flaw in the game's code.
Now they did have some modded weapons from the workshop there so they were able to enjoy punching holes in the Invader's thin hull, but no Archer pods, they had to use player-guided missiles.
It was fun to watch. The UNSC In Amber Clad would mop the floor with a McKenna.

> Requesting Draconis Don Quixote when you have the time

The Newest inclusion to the roster: their leader is the head of a powerful Industrial Zaibatsu that… was an avid reader of old Japanese literature and history (especially pertaining to samurai and Shogun) and in his later years, may have become a bit eccentric. Arming is corporate security with various mechs and CV (all manufactured in-house, of course) and proclaimed himself a Warlord while piloting a Hatamoto-chi of his own (at least 2 corporations he owns has defense contracts to produce them for the DCMS) and running around the Combine, battling its enemies and basically acting like an actual DCMS warlord. Of course existing outside of the DCMS command structure (because let’s not forget this man is a civilian with too much money and free time), is a problem and does result in occasional dust-ups with the actual DCMS, though it’s much rarer than one might think. Despite being functionally a mercenary group in the eyes of some, he insists that his loyalty to the Coordinator is absolute and will follow the commands of Kurita to his death. Though the idea that anyone from House Kurita is in contact with this eccentric trillionaire is laughable, or possibly disgusting as it might imply some sicko is impersonating the Coordinator to take advantage of the man’s delicate mental state for their own ends. Still, it’s rather unusual that the DCMS isn’t trying harder to reign the man in, or how frequently he does actually show up when reinforcements are needed… well a broken clock is right at least twice a day, right?

How about this, the reason I hate you.
You and yours couldnt let something good be. We where happy, noone gave a shit. Then your rainbow dyed freaks came thundering in and demanded attention and took it upon yourself to drive out "le nazis" - IE anyone whom didnt want everything changed. I hate you not because of what you are but because of what you do to me and the things I enjoy. If you would just leave well enough alone I genuinely would not care about you at all. If you want acceptance here all you have to do is to stop being a culture war pushing, subversive, freak. Blend in, have a laugh, ignore the posts you dont like, be a normal person, but most of all;

I feel like I may be misunderstanding the question, so I'll answer it both ways: Regarding using these mechs as cavalry for another faction:

The Gunsmith and Legionnaire are very strongly Davion coded with the Hellspawn and Enforcer being a little more broadly distributed. The specific mix in anything other than a House command or closely affiliated Mercs would be a bit silly.

Regarding mechs that might be sent to deal with this group:

The Enforcer 5D is really the limiting factor in speed; so we're looking at any lineup that can chase or intercept a 5/8/5. Personally my merc forces are most similar to Lyrans, so I can only say what they might field around Jihad. A Nightsky and an Uziel would be a solid backbone both taking advantage of XLs being able to keep up. Speaking of keeping up, Steiner love of heavy armor suggests that getting a fatty in there might be worth pursuing, so specifically a Thunderbolt 17S may be ideal. Nominally it wouldn't be able to chase, but TSM means that if it intentionally keeps the seat warm it should be able to keep pace. I'm not sure what else to round out this group, but some more fast-food beef might make some sense.

Brimstone Outcaste's.
Leader is a washed out Ghost Bear Elemental who had a fanatical snap and completely abandoned clan ways. Fled the invasion corridor on the first dropship available which turned out to be a trap. Got captured by pirates on their hidden asteroid base called 'Brimstone' and forced to fight in their bloodsport arena (because he's an elemental obv) and after about eight months of fighting managed to organize a revolution that crumped the pirates and freed the slaves. This turned the slaves into free people who were quite good engineers (from living on the asteroid and.. y'know, not dying.) and created a cult of personality that he's kinda embarrassed about. Sons are typically recruited into the company as Mechwarriors, Vic pilots and infantry, Daughters are tech staff. Pirates had four mechs and thus the start of the merc company.
Used as follow on forces for security and pirate bashing in the wake of Operation Bulldog, the Outcaste's are defined by being combat engineering regiment that refuses to use any clan mechs and has a preference for Lasers, Autocannons and Flamers.

I've currently got a Company painted up, and one of these days I'll get around to sorting out the rest of the engineering company (vehicles) and whenever my fucking infantry is finally sent to me here in Aus.

At a low enough gravity your shots will have a basically flat trajectory, less powder would mean less speed, not less curvature, on a small enough planetoid you couldn't fire over the horizon, your shots would just go off into space.

Merc company merged with a nobleman and some of his house mechwarriors. Mercs company was failing, noblebrats eccentric and wealthy uncle wanted a legacy and bought up their debt with the stipulation that his nephew and co join. Company was renamed much to the chargin of the owner.
Nobleman is a little hotshot running running in the family's highlander.
Og owner has an axman.
They dont hate eachother but for his families blood sweat and tears building the company he now has to babysit some lordling who treats this like a game and not war. Worst part is, the kids not half bad in the mech. At least he gets invited to fancy parties.

If the gravity is low enough that ballistics aren’t a factor anymore then the “planet” you’re fighting over is likely too small to even maintain an atmosphere of any significance. Also, if we are bordering on microgravity, such as is being described, then it might be best to avoid kinetic weapons (like ACs, Gauss, MGs, etc…) altogether. Without enough gravity to create friction and resistances, the Newtonian physics at play are going to become much more problematic. Might be best to just fall back on using missile and energy weapons.

The fact that on a planetary scale a projectile will eventually return to its body of origin after all of its velocity is consumed by gravitational pull over possibly thousands of years is not useful on the scale of warfare.

Any explosively fired projectile not hilariously overspecialized to a specific gravitational environment will have a minimum gravity under which the muzzle velocity will exceed escape velocity and there will be no functional parabolic arc on a human timescale. At that point you might as well throw the shell, or drop it on them, or just use a guided missile.

Atmosphere would be a factor, but gravities too low for functional ballistic artillery are also strongly likely to have atmospheres too sparse to meaningfully slow a projectile except in a hilariously tight orbit over a great many revolutions.

I have to thank the thread here for helping me when I was creating a backstory and asking questions so things make sense in universe. Sure you can do anything for a story, but its nice when it all fits together. I'm glad someone liked it.

The noble brat eventually learns his lesson and maybe gets a bit more serious. In a megamek game he took a direct hit to the cockpit cold clocking him and was only saved via the armored cowl soaking damage.

He also beat 3 Stalkers in a fight by chain crushing their cockpits when they closed in. Wasn't much mech left after that but he won. It was vs Princess but still was really cool.

Nothing written down but I should, I have the rest of the mech warriors to flesh out but I have some ideas.
One of the mech warrior knights with him is an absolute ice queen and has her hands full keeping him out of trouble, she trains relentlessly and pilots a flashman (perks of being a knight of a rich Lyran family). She's not nobility but perhaps there some chemistry with her charge. They keep a lid on it as it wouldn't be "proper".

There's a bit of a problem for the OG owner of the company. See, when the brats uncle is essentially holding a gilded noose around your neck it would be very unwise to give the kid a mission where he might be killed. So it often falls to his lance to do the heavy lifting while the lordlings lance does "easier" contracts. This has done nothing to temper the idea that he is the tightest shit in the brats mind.

Considering the company dropship being a triumph configured to carry mechs, vehicles, and a platoon of infantry and maybe some BA. That or I'll go with one if the larger spheroid.
Mechs is fun.

Thinking out loud, it's kind of funny how much of battletechs real world balance is based around exactly how much money you put into your company. Like damn rich kids with assault mechs and dedicated training have hands. It's probably one of the worst settings for fighting uphill in, if you don't have exorbitant funds you're straight up not going to have access to the same powerlevel or even the same kinds of transportation or battlefield awareness. It's entirely possible to be priced out of resistance.
The closest you can get to randomly evening the odds is finding a cache of lostech trying to be the equivalent of finding a magical sword in a cave.

Confirmation bias.

Country folk make do...or they do without. All the hicks in rehab are there for meth, but there's also probably some number of kids who never got to meth, instead sticking to huffing diesel or whatever.

Welcome

The other game ended in a narrow Kuritan victory. The two sides were tied on mechs destroyed, but the Kuritans killed more pilots. This means the Davions will be unable to use pilots with any skills better than 4 in the finale. But they won 2/3 battles so far, so the Davions will have the numbers advantage in the finale and a DropShip for fire support.

as an example, I have noticed that Hasbro brand managers are building a sense of faux nostalgia around the D&D cartoon from the 80s being some kind of touchstone of authenticity despite in fact being a failure entirely forgotten by the mid 90s
they have deployed references to it in their lifestyle brand merchandise, the covers of the latest edition books, even the MCU-esque movie
this would be like telling people that the BattleTech cartoon is emblematic of the game and why people like it
not that I haven’t seen people take it upon themselves to conjure exactly that same faux nostalgia — but at least it’s not Topps or CGL doing that for now
I’m struggling to come up with hypothetical “revisions” and “rebrandings” to BT that would compare to what’s happened with stuff like D&D: I guess one example could be erasing the term “Clans” from BT because people of Reddit get worked up about the white supremacy/KKK

True, BT is fundamentally political — in that it is dystopic. It’s core conceit is the notion that humanity will always choose war over peace. At the heart of BattleTech is the principle that no amount of technological (including ideological) “progress” or idealism can overcome what the setting supposes is the inherent human desire for violent mayhem.

The game is not political, its the culture war tards trying to drag modern politics in that are making it so.

on one hand we have a group of people who thinks orcs in D&D are a product and extension of racism against black people in real life
we do not have, on the other hand, anyone who seriously wants orcs to literally be an allegory for white supremacist ideology
there is no “other side”

The earliest lore swears up and down that the vast majority of humanity has shed its more primitive prejudices in favor of largely rational grudges against national enemies.

The early writers are largely too hack to properly stick to this, and so it comes as a great shock to the dumbest, least literate fans when more modern writers casually depict exotic LGBT spectrum stuff.

So which is it? There are primitive prejudices or there aren’t?
I’d also object to the characterization of “grudges against national enemies” as “rational”?
This is not even true from an in-setting perspective, where there is this constant tension between unification and tribalism in human nature.
In BattleTech, we always have these idealists dreaming of some utopian society where everyone coexists in harmony (under that idealist’s rule by the way) and it always falls apart because, again, the core conceit of the setting is people will never stop fighting each other.
The tribalism is just a means to fight each other.
Kerensky found this out both on the way out of the Inner Sphere and again in the Pentagon Worlds, for example. And as for the Clans, this new society was barely even founded before the same thing happened.

Wrong. We're the future of this franchise and Alpha Strike is 100% going to replace CBT eventually. Just look at the con events that get run at places like Gencon. 5 years ago there were barely any AS events. This year there's more AS than CBT. We're winning, and we'll keep winning as grogs and boomers die off.

So, in other words:
>One side wants the game and setting to stay as it is, to be enjoyed for what it is, and be itself
>The other side wants to forcibly insert modern real life politics and social movements that have no bearing on the setting as a whole, and fundamentally change and politicise it to make it match THEIR world view, and drive out anyone who disagrees
Gee, I wonder why people have such a dim view on the rainbow cult?

>>96094923
TL;DR, make one side wants to insert woke ideology into Battletech and make it the forefront of the setting, regardless of whether it tracks with the setting or not.

Anyway, have horny art. Wish I had a game to share, but thanks to lazy cunt cuting her hours my work day now finishes roughly around the same time club nights start, so me getting in in time for a game is rare. Is it justified if you kill someone for robbing you of your hobby time?

Classic is the best. Its simulationist level, and is where you get all the classic "Battletech moments" such as a random AC2 round blowing a Thuds Right Arm off on Turn 1, or a stray round clipping your Mechs cockpit and prompting the pilot to spend the rest of the game snoozing. It takes a bit of learning but once you have the it down it plays fast, and is easy and fun.
Alpha Strike is, well, it extrapolates everything on the mech to 3 damage values at 3 range bands, and 2 sets of pips, one representing armour, the other internal structure. Heat isnt a thing, crits technically exist but might as well not as as soon as armour is popped a unit is basically 2 peer shots from dead anyway, and its honestly a bit of a mess.

The way to think about AS is that each mech is equivalent to a single component of a mech in CBT. It's specifically made for larger scale games and if you're not playing with a company++ you're doing it wrong.

(I still don't like AS)

I would say longer ranged weapons get better benefits but depends what you are facing.
Since ECM can disrupt C3 you don't tend to get really good returns on short ranged weapons but if the enemy doesn't have ECM then a C3 bum rush can be quite hilarious. AC/20 for example firing like its short range at 9 hexes out can be a nasty surprise.

I think I've mostly figured the layout of the company out, for ~3050 era Lyran mercs:
>Heavy Lance:
-Zeus 6A / Battlemaster 1G
-Warhammer 6R
-Thunderbolt 6S
-Rifleman 3N
>Medium lance:
-Griffin 1N
-Hatchetman 3F
- Dunno. Marik salvage like Hermes 2? Whitworth? Dervish?
>Light Lance:
-Commando 3A
-Commando 3A
-Javelin 10A or 10N
-Phoenix Hawk
Thoughts? Will probably add 2 more clantech/is omnimechs later on for lulz.

C3 masters don't really need speed, ideally you hang back and take advantage of the network.
The problem with the C3M cyclops, is it's pretty much just a gauss rifle. For about the same bv, you can take something like the Avatar C, which has more overall fire power and isn't reliant on a single weapon system.

For the combination of c3master and long range fire support mech definitely yes.
Though recently I find myself using the panther CM a lot from FM kurita. It is dirt cheap, and surprisingly survivable if you find some woods to jump between and plink with the PPC. The jumping even lets it delay faster headhunters long enough for your body guards to come back in and save the master. And again it is dirt cheap. Bring three CA panthers for maximum fun at only 3703 BV in total including the c3
