>TQ
Maybe Iโll buy some demons. I dunno. Kinda burnt out.
>>96082634 (OP)>TQProbably Warmaster greenskins.
Your games look like THIS?!?
>>96082678Yikes no I donโt play with people with 3d print third party scans. Soulless.
>>96082634 (OP)>TQ>None. I have a huge collection of dwarfs (20% or so painted) and I have no intention of changing. At most I'll just increase the size of my throng.
>>96082678Is that a case where after deployment two armies just move forward and bump into each other because there's no room to maneuver?
>>96082634 (OP)>TQKislev. I know you're working/have worked on them GW you slimy fucks
Also maybe Tomb Kings or Cathay.
>>96082708Well the units on the left have wheeled almost 450 from what I assume was their original deployment /facing
>>96082752>kislev Me too man. Me too. The war in Ukraine may never end. At this point they simply need to release Kislev and ignore it.
>>96082678Some very oddly placed terrain
>>96082708The 6ร4 table format is too small for any actual maneuver and tactics, the armies start within throwing distance of each other, what would be like 40-50 feet irl. When armies are this close in a battle the time for maneuver is long since over, all that's left is to bump into the guys in front of you.
>>96082678>greytide roundiesAbsolutely fucking disgusting
>>96082752>>96082833What's the appeal of the GW of today doing a Kislev refresh? There's not much to be confident about from my perspective.
>>96082855I want Kislev? Thatโs the appeal. We know itโll look like Kislev in total war and Iโd be very happy with that.
>>96082862>GIVE ME MY SLOP..... NOW!!!!!
>>96082862>I want Kislev?Why?
>>96082678>>96082873Donโt you have something better to do perrynigger?
>>96082849Maneuver is done by cavalry and skirmishers, your big blocks of men's job is to advance. You don't need to play this retard game on a 12 x 8.
>>96082884funnily enough he's the only one in this thread who ever posts wojaks and basedjaks
>>96082634 (OP)None, though I would like to fill out my skaven with some stormvermin and perhaps an old screaming metal screaming bell. But I refuse to pay extortionate prices so both of those will quietly simmer for quite a time.
>>96082873Don't reply to that bot.
>>96082884>perryniggerYou don't even understand the reference lol
>>96082884>perryfagWhy do you still talk about that guy? Move on
>>9608284920 dudes and a flag is hardly a regiment either. "The 6ร4 table format is"(arguably) "too small for any actual maneuver and tactics" not because of the size of the field if unable to understand the concept of abstraction, but because of the number and size of manoeuvre elements and the relatively short movement rates. Stretch the table, increase movement, and I think the average table wouldn't be quite so barren when it comes to terrain either.
>>96082638>ACK!This hold is for pureblooded Dawi only you grobbi wazzock fuck
>>96082958The same hold that skaven and goblins inhabit? Using dwarf beards as blankets?
>>96082849Agreed, having no room to use things like fast cav, scouts, ambushers etc in a way they are supposed to be used/they work in lore is dumb. That was always a + of playing vs dwarf corner camp/fortified hill gunline. You will most likely be shot to bits but at least you have 85% of the table to make the most of the movement phase kek
>>96082896>your big blocks of men's job is to advanceDon't talk about things you don't understand.

>>96082634 (OP)I'm looking for references one way or another to halflings being able to do magic.
In WFRP, it's not a career they can choose, and IIRC I think I remember mention somewhere that they seem resistant to Chaos.
But I also think that the (apocryphal) Halfling army list had a wizard?
What mentions are there, in novels or off-hand in sourcebooks or whatever?
>>96082958I think artillery units should have springs and winding mechanisms that a player has to physically interact with to fire them.
I just think it would be neat :)
>>96082855I personally have wanted a full Kislev army since I read the 6th ed mini-army. I think the faction is cool and I like the Slavic aesthetic and basis for the army.
I also think the bear-ice thing is a bit overexaggerated by people, since the majority of Kislevs roster is still stuff like infantry and cavalry (and also the bear riders are from 4th edition so they're weren't new for TWW3, not matter how many people try to claim they came out of no where).
>>96083088>slav asthetics Expect shitty cad copy paste from โsoulblightโ for kislev

Cathay. Just have to find the damn figures.
>>96082896Historically the army that advances forward is much more likely to lose than the one that stays put. A huge part of pre modern generalship was tricking the enemy into making the first move advancing towards you while you help position
>>96083088NTA but the tabletop release will sadly focus on the Ice Court and ice bear shit rather than the orthodoxy which was my favorite element from the Total War relaunch. It will most likely remain underdeveloped
>>96083057It does speak of Wizards, but that wandering Wizards were prefered over a real Halfling Wizard, which has no time to study, gotta go eat!
>>96083057>>96083138I forgot to write, page 10 are the stats for Halfling Wizards

>>96083176>no argument>npc canned responseyou've never played anything besides GW shit, you never will, and it shows
>>96083118>>96083182It's kinda the same thing. If you have the terrain advantage you don't move and you're more likely to win.
On top of not moving making commanding and reinforcing easier.
>>96083182Which is exactly what maneuver is for, armies would usually manuever for days or some times weeks avoiding the enemy until they found a favorable positioning, and then they'd try to bait the enemy to attack while they held position
>>96083197I'm finishing my glade guard bases and then time permitting moving onto the wild riders finally. Unlike you pissing your life away baiting the general of a game you don't even play.
>>96083176>At least I play games!The games:
>>96083215Just imagine your game of warhams is the enemy catching your army at an inopportune moment on even ground then

>>96083231The fact you are this desperately replying eoth bait just shows it's painfully obvious I was right. Now post your latest diorama or fuck off.
>>96083234Then I'd have a rearguard hold them off while the main army left, it would be a very lopsided game
>>96083231consider scrounging for new material since you keep regurgitating the same few images that are posted in every bad tables thread
or on second though, kill yourself instead
>>96083254>implyingThe 2000 point army you field IS the rearguard, or speartip, of what a full army would field. A to-scale warhams battle would look more like a game of Warmaster.
GW games are not strategy games, they're tactics games
>>96083231I'll take grey tide on a game table over a golden demon winning army that never leaves the display case.
>>96083118>Historically the army that advances forward is much more likely to lose than the one that stays put. A huge part of pre modern generalship was tricking the enemy into making the first move advancing towards you while you help positionBS. The only tricking done was to make enemy follow your battle plan and play to your strategy. Only fortified force on a tight defense remained stationary, and even that is partially true, staying put as you call it while enemy encircles you is literally death.

Are banners and musicians important for cavalry?
>>96083544Depends, but usually no for light cavalry and yes for heavy cavalry
Do it anyways, they look cool.
>>96083544If a unit is meant to win combats on its own then you should always have a full command squad.
>>96083552Well I'm putting together my cathay box (so heavy cavalry i assume since theyre armored) and the banner is cool but the dude with a whole ass drum kit on his mount is a bit silly. Plus every drummer is a guy I dont get to outfit with their sick ass dragon glaives, and it feels really bad to leave those on the sprue, but I'm new to the game so idk how mandatory shit like musicians are
>>96083530You're projecting
>>96083544For cav who love and die om the charge +1 combat res for like 10pts or under js a no brainer, same with the +1 attack and often access to 25pts of goodies. The musician is the first to be cut but again, you'll regret not bringing him when you tie vs infantry and lose or whiff and he could have broke the tie.
>>96083578They can be helpful but it's like 1 in 50 combats it's been relevant for me. The result usually being "Oh, I guess I give ground now". Whatever
>>96083578I always build at least one of the unique models to get my money's worth. If you don't want a musician in a unit for rules reasons, just put him in the back rank or something. But it's better to have at least a single musician built and available to use in a game than to not have one at all.
I have yet to build my Cathay box but will build just a single full command squad for the Lancers and run them in a unit of ten. Then down the line I may want to field two units of five guys in a game and still want both of the units to have full command squads for rules reasons. In that case I just tell my opponent that both of my lancers have full command, but only one unit is modeled with them.
Where it gets tricky is situations where you have to explain to your opponent that your Lancer has full command for rules reasons but the unit on the table is only modeled with a champion and a bannerman. It's harder to remember at a glance and could cause your opponent to slip up.
Obviously for sanctioned GW tournaments you're not allowed to proxy like this but that doesn't matter to me.
>>96083544Yes. If it's your first time adding a unit to your army, give it a full command squad. You can remove the bits you don't want later.
>>96083578What kit is this? Looks like some AoS shit
Trying to think through my color scheme for bretonnia. For the cloth/barding, I'm thinking knights of the realm I will do in lots of different two color pairs like picrel, the questing knights will be pure purple and steel, and the Grail knights will be white and steel with gold trim. Makes them easier to differentiate at a quick glance and I think a bunch of white and gold Grail knights charging in will look pretty cool.
What about the infantry? I don't have a particular faction in mind so not sure what colors to go for on men at arms. Maybe just brown for peasant rags. But that might end up a bit boring.

Lore question. I'm sure many dwarfs won't (especially from holds in the KarakAnkor) but are there companies of Dwarf mercenaries? Perhaps working only for other dwarfs/certain humans?
I don't mean special unique stuff like long drong and his pirates, but like regular warriors/thunderers/longbeards.
I'd assume hammerers are out since they're specifically bound to a king (unless the king himself is some sort of condottiere character) and ironbreaers too are tied to an hold and its defence.
But I can see an engineer and a retinue of gunners (perhaps his own family members) lending his service and machine to well paying generals.
And slayers too, I guess.

>>96083984It makes sense. Maybe not a whole hold. But a clab that specializes in fighting greenskins/beastmen/ogres/whatever they could then be selling their services to those willing to pay the probably exorbitant price.
If you go by very old lore (pre 4th edition) you actually have dwarfs and orcs fighting in the same army, although I don't remember who was the mercenary.
For my own tilean hold/heacanon there are a few companies that are indeed famous for their services as mercenary troops for the ever warrying Tilean states. Mostly regiments of thunderers and batteries of gunpowder artillery, but also a few characters who fight along/lead/train human troops for a hefty fee; engineers and architects are also highly sought by humans to help fortify their cities, set up foundries, assist with sieges etc.

Even if they weren't greedy passing up money is dumb. Money is power, and power settles grudges.
>>96084176>>96084233Not all dwarfs hold out there are from the KarakAnkor.
There's holds that don't have any oath to the high king, and I can see mercenary work as a supplement to their economy.
Now, they'll probably want to be paid in advance and they're probably very anal about what they'll do and for how long and against whom; but I don't see why a warrior clan can't fight for money
What are the black arks? Titanic ships or floating islands
>>96084241Their sense of honor is so stark and autistic that mercenary work is beneath them no matter the reward. Unless you're an Imperial soรฝdorf with no scruples.
>>96084266Dorf miners on an expedition out in the middle of nowhere have a job to do and wouldn't take on a merc contract even if they wanted to. Dorf holds outside the Karaz Ankor are busy fighting for their lives constantly without the High King to protect them.
>>96084274But what if their job was specifically to fight? Like a clan that specializes only in fighting.
>>96084271Yes.
>>96084274I'm going to make a dwarf mercenary army or of spite

>>96083984I feel miners would be very common as sorts of mercenaries, and rangers to a lesser extent. They would need currency to deal with non-dwarfs in their surface dealings, and mercenary work could provide that.
I also think it would also be common enough that a noble would lead his clan (with a full range of soldiers like warriors, longbeards, artillery) to fight alongside another dwarf noble or king in the pursuit of some venture (clearing a particular hold or mine) and he would be doing it on the condition of being paid. Effectively a mercenary, but technically it would described as a series of oaths of compensation for assistance that will paid for with a share of reclaimed treasure. They wouldn't crassly say they were only doing it for money, they would frame it as a chain of oaths of fair wergild owed from Lord to Thane to Warrior to his family, thus the Lord needs to be paid so he can fulfill his oaths to his warriors. All very honorable and fair, no dishonor at all.

That means absolutely nothing for most people. It's non-canon fullstop.
The mention of Black Library is completely and utterly inconsequential, a complete joke with zero serious value.
I do not know how people reach these conclusions.
Another time I mentioned Lizardman Skinks using money from a White Dwarf article and people told me it was not canon because it was too weird and lizardmen are meant to be soulless automata of the Old Ones with zero free will.
How do people decide what is canon? Are the six Baalrukh canon?
>>96083379Both are heavy armour T3 elves. Swordmasters have better WS for a unit in the game, stellar I, ignore armour on 6s to wound and in majority of cases will strike before the attackers with S5 ap-2. White lions will always enter combat with guaranteed casualitites due to striking last and when playing elves you don't want to participate in attrition game especially with elite units. I've tried all big 3 elven infantry elites and WL are unfortunately still the worst of the batch.
>>96085358Non-chaotic Kurgan or Norse tribes. They still exist, especially in TOW. The mention of Kharakorsi in the TOW rulebook makes that fairly explicit.

>>96086628It is an extremely interesting dynamic when we can be presented with people with enough pragmatism to set aside their preconceptions and collaborate with unconventional partners, especially when it turns out the collaboration is fruitful to the end, because you expect it to not work, so if it doesn't work it ends up as predictable, but if it does work, and you give reasons as to why it works, suddenly you've added depth, tension, character, and a measure of attachment to the unlikely bet.
Everyone loves ogres specifically due to that flexibility, and many conventionally evil races could work just as well, once you've smoothed some of their edges for what concerns the ones involved in these fringe scenarios.

so what is cathays "thing"
like, dwarfs are all slow and tough, elves are all fast and fancy, beasts berserk, warriors of chaos are all brick shithouses, undead reanimate, etc.
what is their niche or gimmick? is it just the dragon? i was looking through their rules and they dont seem particularly fighty or fast, they're tough but not crazy like dwarf tough. they arent slow but i dont think i would call them fast either. they only have a single monster at the moment, almost no shooting outside of artillery. are they just meant to be generalists? or is it all about the dragon? im struggling to get a good sense of what their whole gimmick is supposed to be
>>96087060well rounded hooman list (albeit with a limited selection of units owing to being brand new). Yin and Yang bonuses are their gimmick if you're a nu40k or AoS player
>>96087060Combined arms, like a more elite Empire
>>96087060>so what is cathays "thing"Armies having "things" stopped being a thing between the 6th and 7th edition and died definitely in 8th.
If you really want to force a thing for cathay, it is nominally a higher degree of coordination between its parts, evident in the support rules of the strategist and lantern, but otherwise given up on in favour of straight constant bonus in the vast majority of cases. for example in total war the 'yin' troops get boosts when near the 'yang' troops and viceversa, a mechanic supposedly taken from the tabletop rules gw gave them to instruct total war on how to mechanically stat the army, since they also used armybook stats and rules to instruct on how to implement the other factions in total war. but that's evidently been abandoned in the translation into rules for the old world, probably because the army doesn't have enough units to divide them into 'yin' and 'yang', because the tabletop units are way less mobile and less way numerous, and because GW wanted to make cathay strong to sell more, so I imagine the harmony mechanic developed into the compass roll that gives a bonus regardless of what happens.

No, the infantry is pretty good, but the image linked had a unit so small it would fail to contribute anything at all.
The other stuff isn't even relevant to what I posted, play some games before you try to bring specifics please.
>>96088519That couple of centerpieces are going to make half of each and every cathay army.
They would be fine if there were middle sized options in-between to ease the contrast, but there aren't, so all cathay armies now look like the kind of monster spam armies people shit on aos for.

And I used them as an example of shooting with no AP modifiers (and also because my friend plays WE and blew my Chaos Knights of a similar size off the table with two units shooting like that yesterday lel).
Because yeah, you add in units with AP shooting and the math gets even worse for Cathay Lancers. They're quite underwhelming as far as cav go.
>>96088991You're still going to stomp the wood elves on the charge and redeem your points. Remember Cathay is 20ppm vs 13 minimum of the elf (with arrows) and will smash in melee and even the following up (which specially they always get to count as a charge)
Also why would you bring Cathay in 5 when they get always to fight in 2 ranks? Wouldn't 8 or 10 always be better?
These things like everything in that army are going to fuck except vs the perfect counter- hell even vs cav counter charge and 2 ranks should be about even if not better.

Watching retards try to squirm and pretend like warhammer is some realistic grounded game that just happens to include dwarfs and elves and shit is always hilarious. >>96089167Fuck that was sent before editing
I concede for typing retarded but still no matter how hard you shill the community is going to call out the power creep Cathay has set now.
>>96089167Funnily enough I forgot the multishot penalty, but I did the math with the AP arrows which means that on average you're still killing 2 with only ten shots. Including a first round of shooting, a stand-and-shoot when charged, and the supporting hits back, you're actually gonna wipe the unit of 5 on average, since you take out 4 before they reach you and the last one is dispatched by your melee attacks back (only 1 wound on average but that's all you need).
>>96089135It's always been a bit of most, just terminally online secondaries struggle to understand what a sandbox really entails. You can have some light hearted stuff thats for fun, goofy stuff that's actually kind of horrifying like the pic, or stuff that's grim like chaos invasions.
>>96089181Also yeah, the Shungengen Lord, the Balloon, and the cannons are definitely OP, Cathay is too strong, but the cav is the worst thing you could point to. They're really just not good for their cost, even to fill out core.
>>96089218math i was 3 avg, with cathay winning on 1 (unit of 6 for eq pts with banner/champ) which makes it pretty even for a premier armor killing unit (glade guard) needing a 7 leadership test to not get run down.
it did worse vs thunderers, but much better vs human ranged options.
Do keep in mind these numbers go down if the knights say march past the arc of the bows causing them to move, Any movement forced really makes the knights go up in value. That still suggest they are damn good for their points. Remember too this is a unit that fills a "core" tax and that's before we include Miaos boosts or the winds boosting them etc

>>96089916oh dont get me wrong, the sentinel was a god damn sadistic nightmare to put together crafted by satan himself. i've had easier times with master grade gunpla kits than i had with that god damn sentinel (looks sick when its finished though), but the rest of the cathay range has all been pretty modular and flexible as far as allowing customization or at least not getting in your way if you want to do arm or head swaps or rider swaps for the cav. plus the cannon kit comes with a couple different poses for the ogre and for each of the crew which is nice.
the biggest downside for me is that the jade warriors only have 5 poses. 5 bodies, 5 weapon arms. tons of heads though, but they are all pretty similar looking with the same helmets and tassles. its not quite as bad as the dwarf hammerers i was doing where they only had 2 bodies to choose from but coming from having just done kharadron and votann where the infantry had 10 unique bodies, flat joint arms, and ball join heads with like 20 heads per kit, multiple special weapons, and buckets of left over bits, i was a bit underwhelmed, but it was pretty par for the course or above average when compared to the whfb dwarfs sprues, so i guess its pretty good grading on a curve.

What kind of units, magic items, and spells (if you recommend taking any spellcasters) should I consider for the match up? What strategies do you recommend? Presume the rules are the most up to date and keep in mind the recent FAQ that brought large changes to the game, particularly related to infantry and casting. No cheating by using your own AI for your answer!
>>96090089I'm going to bring my usual list and have fun because that's just how I play, with a focus on table of using my mass of infantry to get into melee before being shot to ribbons by artillery
>tabled by Cathay turn 2
>>96090059thats been really hit or miss for me, like, i got the full votann range last year which i would consider about as nuGW as it gets, and some of the kits were completely inflexible monopose jobs like the berserks, some were 50/50 like the hearthguard which were monopose but had multiple melee and gun arms per body and ball joint heads to change it up, and then the hearthkin warriors was as flexible as anything from the 00s like tac marines or cadians, 10 unique bodies and legs, flat joint arms with 2 main weapon choices, 4 different heavy weapons, 3 different sergeant melee and pistol loadouts, 2 different crests, optional medic, radar, and comms backpacks, and then a bunch of extra flavor bits like shovels and pickaxes, and then like 20 unhelmeted heads +10 helmet visors. insanely flexible.
so yeah idk, doesnt really seem to be a rhyme or reason to it, sometimes they are monopose bricks, and sometimes they're as customizable as they've ever been. my new black templar sword brethren and primaris crusaders were pretty flexible too, i built 20 of each without a single fully repeated model.

With the new FAQ rules could I have my spearmen have hand weapons and shields out when being attacked and then swap to spear and shield between combat rounds for the supporting attack?
Is "between combat rounds" meaning between each set of attacks or between each set of overall combats?
Anyone posted a sea wardens of cothique pdf?
>>96090338Each round of combat is like a turn of combat. They have to keep the same weapons for being attack and attacking (or vice versa if they go first). If itโs your turn or your opponents turn you choose which weapons you use and you are locked for those weapons until the next players turn if that makes sense. Not for the duration of both players turns but just one.
