I agree that other designs were not so good, especially the CIS redesigns. Doug Chiang's prequel droids were already perfect. The game just made them ugly, ruined their color palette, and fucked up their proportions. When it comes to Geonosians and Trandoshans, they made them look like some kind of generic Quake 4 enemies, or something. Spider-droids were pretty good, though. It's the only redesign that I liked.

Lucas suggested colorful armor and different voices. They were originally just plain white boring dudes, as seen in the concept arts and early renders/builds/trailers. By the time of Episode III, Lucas became interested in the idea of clones being unique and having personalities, which was also one of the key things he was adamant about when making The Clone Wars.

I don't hate the concept of RCs as sort of raider troops designed to infiltrate heavily armed areas and forcefully extract something while facing off against heavy enemy presence. Though the game does make them do some ridiculous shit like take over a whole Acclamator cause they once lived there like a year before

ARCs are cooler though, badass generals who also work on their own as proper infiltration units but are capable of proper covert ops. Of course I mean Legends Alpha ARCs and not the shitty Disney ARCs which is just another rank random clones have

Completely agree. My beef with Commandos, such as it is, is exclusively their appearance. The concept I'm fine with, and I kinda like the ARCs as that. As was typical of TCW, they were coy with whether ARCs as depicted in the show were the only way they were used, and in fairness even in TCW they perform not unlike the Alphas of Legends, with raid on the Citadel to rescue that little Jedi whose name I've forgotten. You know the one though, where Echo gets "killed."

I like the idea. It would be a nice change of pace for father and son to not be antagonistic for once. I kind of want to do it myself, a Jedi taking up the Sith way to give his lovechild son the best possible chances to survive in a savage universe.
I was already planning a dynamic in an Imperial family. Father and son respect each other even though they view most others as fodder. Neither of them has much to give the other, and they're both busy, but the son attempts to bring his father prestige while the father tries to support his son however possible. The mother encourages her son to romance, both to give herself grandchildren and to help make him happy. Son is exasperated by his mother's lackadasical attitude and attempts to spoil him like a child, but is severely protective of her.

it's not a long rifle. its a carbine / pdw for house to house, point blank clearing and ship boarding. and you use it not to shoot squishy organics (even geonosians are shown to be so tough thanks to being soulless vile bugmen that they can take two + shots of more from long rifle proper blasters) but instead you are using this weapon against effectively, solid blocks of metal and ablating them and degrading them.

our modern tanks, for example, are effectively really really tough tin cans, once penetrated, they're mostly empty. not so a droid or such.

take a modern car. they are by no means 'bulletproof' like hollywierd would have you believe, but, hide behind the ENGINE BLOCK and all that solid metal, even just crappy pig iron and cheap steel, is dense enough to become bulletproof.

now you're dealing with actual armour plate, over solid metal parts for droids. s you have to magdump massive amounts of fire power into it to effect it. especially the SBD's +.

and the dc-17m was an ion blast weapon, especially designed to fry droid circuitry etc. which is why we one time we see a commando/arc on screen in eIII RotS, the dude is pouring fire into a droid mini spider tank, before running up and leaping ontop of it to put the muzzle up against its head and magdump some more to actually kill the fucker.

He doesn't give a shit anymore. He is dead inside. It would've been out of character for him to give a shit. For all he knows, Ahsoka is dead, and she is dead because of him, since he found her lightsabers at the venator crash site. If anything, at this point in his mind, Barriss was right. "From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!" And he gave her a look when he saw her face, and Barriss put a helmet on cause she felt his gaze.

The story was pretty good, conceptually. It was just rushed, because the format is so dogshit. You can't do anything really meaningful in 10 to 15 minutes. But at least it had a story, unlike the absolute stinking poop that was Tales of the Underworld.

Imagine how much more interesting Boba Fett's story would have been if he had been the same character as Mando. The story starts with the first half of Book of Boba Fett, where he's doing Lawrence of Arabia shit with the sand people, then after reclaiming Slave One from Jabba's Palace, he gets a transmission from the Imperial Remnant, hiring him for a special bounty. He finds that the bounty is the baby Yoda, and we get the events of season one of The Mandalorian, where he can't bring himself to turn in a child for money (having been softened somewhat by his time with the sand people). Then as the Imperial Remnant hunts him, he's forced into a grudging alliance with the New Republic and the other Mandalorian remnants, as he's gradually redeemed into the character that Mando was at the end of season three.

Works so much better as a character arc than having two different half-developed Mandalorian bounty hunter characters who don't really have clear explanations for their motives.

While money is certainly a motivating factor, Boba has always been a guy with a code. Above things like power or money, he clearly prioritizes order. The reason for the obsessive rivalry with Solo is that Han flies in the face of order and justice because he's some idiot winging it, doing illegal shit and getting rewarded for it.

But, the real reason he gets to be a Rebel is because he's "good guy" coded in BoBF, and the only valid option to slot him into Legion as a good guy is as a Rebel Merc.

I am 90% sure that The Mandalorian show concept started as a Boba vehicle, so I don't want to argue that it wouldn't have been cooler with him in the lead, but I think the motives for Din and Boba are pretty easy to read.

Both of them are family oriented. Din was a Foundling and wants to pass that legacy onto his "son." He wants to be a dad.

Boba felt left behind until he found his sand family. Then after that got nuked he said "kark this" and decided to be the head of a capital-F Family. He wants stability, order, and competency [don't we all].

The execution in BoBF is sloppy, but I believe it's a very readable intent. Personally, I would have preferred if they emulated the stories of Tales of the Bounty Hunters, by each chapter being about just one of the players (Bib, the Mods, Fennec Shand, etc...) with Boba being a presence in each story before being the focus in the lead up to the finale and of course the finale itself.

Having played 100+ games with Legion, I gotta say, it's a very intense game. It's constant, planning, management, setting things up and executing them. There is almost no down time, as every unit activation, every move, every attack, every defense roll can highly alter what's on the board. It's a lot of fun, once you get into the thick of it.

The nice part about Legion is that it's a very smooth system, with little redundant rolling. Eg. No charge rolls, no advance rolls, the to hit/wound roll being a single thing. Keywords and abilities are universal, so it's easy to understand what each enemy unit does.

From what I read/listened to about old world, there is some overlap here. Legion is currently a close range/melee game for the most part, the main difference being that you rotate activations.

Legion can, of course, also be a fluffy casual game.

The 1000pts limit is a mixed bag. Getting to use so much stuff is amazing, but on the other hand it'll be harder for some returning players to gather an effective army.

We played Bunker Assault + Surface Scan
One the one hand the game is less varied, since all of the main objectives revolve around contesting points. As a result having more activation felt extremely important.
I think Secondary Objectives have a lot of potential to do some cool stuff.
Advantages felt mostly anecdotical. (With the exception of Advanced Intel which looks extremely strong)
Setting up the map is a lot faster, which means getting to the meat of the game quicker.
Deployment getting included in Round 1 is another way set-up is faster, it's a nice buff to Infiltrate/Scout/Speeder units.

Determining cover is easier. I'm somewhat undecided on the whole rolling cover thing. It sure does buff units with small dice pools and doesn't significantly slows the game down. But it often felt like Cover didn't matter as a result.
Since the POI give Heavy Cover we decided not to put heavy cover or LoS blocking terrain at range 1/2 of them, which in hindsight might have been a mistake.
I was surprised by how close everything felt, unlike in the previous edition where getting to Range 1 or 2 was a huge challenge, while my Landspeeder had a hard time staying out of trouble.
I need practice more and get used to Jyn's Independent: Move, Ewoks Independent: Surge and remember my HQ Uplinks on Landspeeders.
I think the Objectives (Main and Secondary) feel very susceptible to snowballing. It's better than some of the old objectives which where about staring at each other for 5 turns then rushing the objective(s) during the last turn and hope you can outnumber/outtank the other guy, but not perfect. Still that might be due to the nature of Objectives we used.
I liked the older Transport rules better, but it is what it is.

You're right, acts are very important. However, missions like Recover the research and Intercept signals can let you get away with less. Apparently, there's a 6 act republic list that's very competitive now.

Yeah, advanced intel is ridiculous. The 3 dodges can be useful on units that want to shoot on turn 1 and will be vulnerable to return fire. I also found that some players take garrison if they have super squads of infantry.

I actually disagree here. I often find myself winning games with way less stuff on the board than my enemy. I even recently won a game with exactly 1 b1 droid on the board, while my enemy had like 4 acts still kicking.

It's set in the proper continuity, it's all free online(search "d6 holocron") including a wiki you can point players with fluff questions at, it's been around for so long its problems are known intimately which means they're easy to houserule away to your taste, and it's cross-compatible with the D6 wargame so if you want to have your players participate in larger fights rather than fighting an RPG combat system you can convert their characters across to wargame stats and use those rules. My group really likes FFG, but we are a bunch of storyshitters. The dice take some getting used to, even as the DM because you can't necessarily use the same asspulls you moght be used to with the binary pass/fail of a flat, numerical die roll. Still, advancement is a nice slow burn that ends in hypercompetence until you suddenly roll blanks against only two purple dice. Great times.

I think I'd second the 5e fan game for your group, even if the engine source gives you some asinine shit like a lightsaber doing d8 damage or whatever.

I personally run adventures from WEG all the time, so I'd recommend using it as a resource regardless of what system you choose.

The older d20 just isn't my style, and has some similar wonkiness in it that the 5e game has.
