Recently my player decided to create his own world and setting based off my D&D5e homebrew. While I'm proud for his resolve to take up the DM mantle, most of the stuff he shows me that he made are outrageously broken. I'd like to share some of what I've been sent with you and hear your opinion.

I will showcase an allied (?) NPC, an enemy and a the features one of the players has. Reminder the party is level 5-6.

NPC they met at like level 4 and has been travelling with the party and shows up for major encounters.

Boss fight at 5th-6th level, there were like 8-9 of these.

I think it's good for people to put stuff like this into a system so they can get it out of their system. I remember a lot of my friend's early adventures, and this stuff isn't far off from the ridiculous stuff they did.

Only tacked that one in because how fucking massive it is for a "Starting Gift" which is a mechanic I added where a player may take a Rare item of their choosing at the start of the game (they must also take one negative effective from a list), some of them obviously custom made... like this.

Oh, that actually does change the context, by a huge amount.

Still, I think that it's obvious most of this stuff is basically being done for a huge gag beyond the bondage shit, so just make it clear you get the joke before explaining how it's mechanically broken. Everyone wants to do a funny at the table at least once, best to let them get it out of their system.

I'm the guy OP mentioned having an aneurism. I want to believe this guy is doing this as a gag, but it's literally the entire personality of the guy and his orbiters. I wish I could say they're not the kind of virgins who would erp this shit out but it is. Also attached is what made me crashout last night, given to someone at 3rd level and has an estimated cost of 5 gp.

We also ask him quite a bit behind the reasoning for anything being done, because usually if someone can give me a good reason for something in their game I get it. But this mf just goes "lore". Like, we get that. Can you explain? "Well it's just lore". I could probably get chat gpt to spit out a better answer ffs.

The rest of the effects only have a single charge that can't be recovered. If it loses all the charges, no more sword.

This is like 2 and a half get out of jail free cards. Mordenkainen's Sword is probably the least powerful because it's a 3d10 damage bonus action to attack. It should be noted that Holy Aura and Mordenkainen's Sword are both concentration spells as well

This seems like it's fine for a plot-related item. The NPCs were worse, though they seem like they were written to be a gag.

All that said, some people enjoy a high-powered game, so if the players are having fun, they're having fun

Shit like this is why homebrewing in RPGs should be banned unless you have at least 1 year of experience of DMing without it.
I'm actually serious when I say that you should be able to report this shit to Hasbro and he can be personally sued. Because as much of a travesty as they've made of D&D, this is even worse.

I do hear what youre saying, but also a temperamental sword with 5 int that is the deciding force of whether I would be allowed to cast or not? As a player I'd probably find it a very frustrating item in general. I also was more frustrated by his lack of understanding what a fucking economy is and how that a sword like that being 5 gp has ramifications that unless you're treating gold as like a 100 or even 1000 to 1 conversion for silver and silver into copper, is everyone running around with one of these since they cost less than what a suit of plate mail would? The NPCs though are where I drew the line. Also apparently the NPCs out number the amount of party PCs, and one of the players told us the average combat round is 60-120 mins.

Honestly, no fucking clue. There is no rhyme or reason to any of the gold pricings I've heard about the magical items. Apparently, this was also just bequeathed by an angel too, so it confuses the fuck out of me. Idk I feel if I were a level 3 pc and a named angel just decided to gift me a sword, I'd be asking so many fucking questions and wondering if I'm a child of prophecy. But we've seen the npcs so that ain't the case. Call me pedantic but I do like to think that economy should be part of your worldbuilding if you're making an entire setting from scratch like he is.

It's absolutely atrocious from a gameplay perspective. But if you're going for a full gonzo unbalanced experience, then that's probably secondary to just doing what feels cool. That said, that part is probably what's frustrating OP in trying to give "feedback" like he was asked, since it's clear this would-be DM is not on the same wavelength as OP and their slow communications breakdown is being displayed here for our amusement.

I am hoping and praying deep in my soul that he's being satirical with this.
