There were references to Dark Sun it in the 2024 PHB iirc, even in the halflings section.
BG3 was very successful and it did have slaves and some dark stuff even if not to the level of Dark Sun, but still, it's dumb to cover your ears and pretend all 5e products have been Radiant Citadel style crap.
Either way, it doesn't matter since it's 1000% guaranteed that if it gets rereleased it'll suck.

When I used to exclusively play 5e I was a regular in the Dark Sun should return debate. Now that I got sick of it I can't help but notice that there are 2 or 3 third party versions that are miles better than what WotC did to Spelljammer and Dragonlance. There are also versions for Troika, Into the Odd and OSE. And it all kinda sucks, it's not really the best take on anything in particular. You can play other stuff that does whatever you like from Dark Sun much better than Dark Sun dos (even versions of DS are so different they might as well be a different setting if it weren't for the branding).

It depends on what you want from DS, like I said even DS editions feel like different settings with different intended games (conspiring a heist to kill a god king and hexcrawling the desert until you find an ocean are bunched together because DS had one adventure at the time, but they aren't the same experience). For example, I've been recently preparing Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of and I feel it could be used to run DS (or stuff in the same line) with very little issues.
