Trying to make a full 100 of custom cards but didn't want to spam the thread with a massive number of custom cards for critique.
The general themes for the Drukhari deck I have so far are Bloodthirst, Hellbent, Morbid triggers, and +/- counter manipulation. Wanted Vect to kind of just be a generic draw engine that denied resources and was annoying to remove to fit his master manipulator themes.

whos more fun, il probably build all 3 eventually since i have zero impulse control when it comes to building decks
zidane sounded the most fun on paper but ive never built a superfriends deck or a proper voltron deck
>>96109158I am glad I don't live in a time where wood elemental is considered a good card. I don't see what is fun about playing with 7 mana 4/5's and shit.
>>96109512Nothing is better than slop, it's not hard to understand. If you can only make slop, you are part of the problem, not the solution. Learn to draw you fat lazy fuck
>>96109399ward: replace {3} with "discard random card"
endstep trigger: replace with "whenever", keep the once per turn limitation (alternative: keep endstep, but only on your endstep, and draw a card for each creature that entered gy)
>>96109493I'll definitely have to make a Dais of Destruction legendary transport at some point that could be an alternative commander now with the new rules.
I originally had him as a horrible Stax commander because his main thing he is known for in the tabletop these days is disrupting other people's stratagems (cost increases are still called "Vects" in the game). But I wanted him to have something generically useful enough that the rest of the deck can be a hodgepodge of Dark Eldar themes and not lean in to lockdown too much.
>>96109310By running a commander that is not integral to the deck strategy, or by running green. If your deck relies on the commander and it is 5+ mana and not in green, you're gonna have a bad time. The game may not be over by turn 5 but if you are literally still just dropping lands and rocks to finally get going by then, you are waaaaaay behind and that's not what I'd want my deck to do on average.
Even precons will have an established board and be a threat by turn 5. If your deck needs that big drop commander to function then you better be in green or running farewell and austere command or some shit to reset the board for when you FINALLY decide to start playing.
>>96109517>wood elemental>7 mana 4/5Homie what the fuck are you talking about? Also I'm old as shit lemme tell you right now NO ONE thought Wood Elemental was good. Everyone trashed the fuck outta that card constantly
>>96109493Vect sounds like he's gotta be one of these commanders that makes you feel like a fucking genius. the guy's thing is taking the nest of vipers that is the Dark Eldar and keeping control of it.
>Asdrubael Vect, Lord of Commorragh>1BR >Legendary Creature - Elf Noble>2/4>Menace>Whenever one or more creatures deal combat damage to a player, choose a creature that dealt damage to them that turn. Gain control of that creature until the beginning of your next end step.There. It has an absolutely insane payoff but it'll set the biggest baddest target in your head you can think of. Prove yourself worthy of ruling the Dark City or perish.
>>96109525I actually had the discard card ward originally and decided that was just too much. Nearly doubling the mana value of most removal is probably punishing enough.
Bracket 4 is the most fun bracket.
Bracket 3 is either bracket 2 decks with Rhystic study or bracket 4 decks pretending to be bracket 3

>>96109547low bracket timmys love boardwipes because they would rather extend the game another 2 hours instead of someone potentially getting ahead

>>96109553I have been flip flopping between making them Elves, Vampires, or just Eldar. Normally I hate adding new creature types but the 40k set did it for several of the other alien species so this seemed more in line with their design.
>>96109543I actually think ward random discard is easier to deal with than ward 3. at least I don't need to tap out for targeting him, and it forces you to run more protection.
>>96109560But timmy hates when you kill his cute combo he sets up. He just wants to play solitaire in the corner
>>96109370Who the fuck honestly groups by brackets? I think most people just by habit go towards tier 3 anyway unless they're doing a meme or they're a faggot using some really gay deck
>>96109568I am 100% sure the 40k set made the Astartes type because of GW mandating it, it's stupid as fuck. The Deldar are Elves, maybe Elf Warlocks.

>>96109547 Brackets are fake-EDH
>>96108940 (OP)I can't tell this shit apart from Hazbin Hotel because they seem to have the same premise and art style.
>>96109597Yeah, I guess elves makes the most sense. And there is plenty of precedent for them in black. Red is actually much rarer for them. My only leaning towards vampires is that functionally that's what they are both in card mechanics and in lore, just elf vampires. Magic doesn't ever really make such a distinction though.
Elf creature type has very few interactions with opponent cards but Vampire has a fair number that could be interesting to allow to happen.

Custom cards can be on-topic in context, but you're right about that overall as they have their own thread

But when the majority of the thread wants to talk about UB, you add nothing by repeatedly bitching and replying to everyone saying "slop". Just because you're not excited about a product doesn't mean that that's true for everyone else. I think it clearly seems to be the opposite; people are interested in Final Fantasy and Sonic, and they want to talk about it in this thread. You can whine all you want but that's not going to make those things off topic in this thread.

Retard, the only person I have insulted in this thread is (you) for making absolutely retarded arguments (there are more than a few people here complaining about UB, but acknowledging that instead of your headcanon would be too inconvenient). This is about the game and the company going in a direction that doesn't benefit it outside of a short-term burst. And, yes, I will insult the company for this because the dedicated UB sets are cash grabs that take resources away from other sets.
>Do you honestly believe every product needs to be made and catered directly to you?You know there's already a Final Fantasy card game, right? If you're really dead-set on sucking off the IP, you can go play that instead.

Why would someone being a fan of Magic wanting Magic-flavored cards be at all a problem? Think about that for two seconds.
>>96111045Every budget deck I see is painfully dependent on its commander.

>>96111064Does it work? Is it cheap?
>>96111067>does it workIf no one removes your commander/it is extremely easy to recur your commander.
Otherwise it is going to fall apart in certain situations.
>>96111047>UB also has mechanically interesting/unique cardsdifferent anon here, this is the reason I actually dislike UB products. When something unique is printed in a UB, it means that I'm forced to either engage with that UB, or forgo having access to that. And often times, that comes at a huge deficit when you want to play higher power, or special gimmicks.
There's absolutely nothing that matches the power of The One Ring, and Orcish Bowmasters are insanely pushed. If I want to take my Black, or high-powered decks to the next level, I HAVE to engage with that UB to keep powering up. If I want to play with more Saga themes, most of the good support is locked away in UBs (Tom, Terra, the Summons, Jarl from AC).
It would be one thing if WotC had continued with the Universe Within printings. I'd be fine with UBs having mechanically unique cards, if it meant that later on there would be a real card with it as well. But, right now, I have no choice but to engage with them, or limit myself.
>>96111055Since most of your post is being a whiny faggot, a strawmanning retard and filled with adhom, I'm only going to respond to the actual thing(s) you said

>dedicated UB sets are cash grabs that take resources away from other setsIt's not like the quality of in-universe magic sets was amazing before UB, so I really doubt this actually. Magic has always sucked. Nothing has changed here. The existence of UB hasn't made in universe worse because it was already terrible to begin with
>>96111071You can proxy whatever UB cards you feel you need to use to have the exact art and flavor text you want on them if it isn't to your liking, like myself and other anons do. It literally that simple.

>>96109515I'm not sure what you'd want to do with Zidane. Unless you just like Zidane. Skullbriar looks cool and has a neat building up effect. Haste in rare colors for it is a neat bonus as well. Unsure about the planeswalker selection for Carth but he seems promising.
>>96110941>I've probably used these threads longer than you've used this entire site, summerfag, and the quality has gone downhill ever since around 2020.This isn't the brag you think it is loser. You and the other "I HATE WHAT MAGIC HAS BECOME" malding dorks are giving off big "34 year old at the community theater punk show complaining to 14 year olds how mainstream punk has become". If you don't like what its become grow up and move the fuck on. The clock is never being rewound back to 2008 or whatever year you think was Magic's "golden era", and the amount of people who think and feel like you do about the game is absolutely miniscule, most likely because the vast majority of players who felt like you do weren't retarded enough to keep sinking money and time into a hobby they no longer liked hoping some magical solution would reset everything to what it was 15 years ago.
Cash your cards out and go away. Hanging around crying about what the game is and will continue to be going forward is fucking pathetic.
>>96111071>or forgo having access to thatFor my area, it's a matter of pricing.
Since everyone wants to grab [brand], shit sells out fast, and it's not for anything that couldn't otherwise be printed in another set.
A collector's booster of Final Fantasy in my LGS is going for over $1k, and looking online that's not uncommon. There are people that are pulling the "new iphone box" scam on tcgplayer with that shit. I know the preemptive ">collector booster," but the regular packs aren't much better, for what little there is, and that shit bubbles up.
When deckbuilding, I have to account for shit like Vivi, but I as a price-conscious player do not have access to Vivi. That creates a problem, because that case is extremely common for UB slop, and since it's tied to an IP WotC has to license, those game pieces will most likely never be reprinted. It is a soft reserved list.
>>96111097Wait, that's illegal!
>>96111083that's what I've taken to doing. It causes some friction at my LGS, though, because they have a strict "you can only proxy if you own the actual card" rule. So, if I want to use an Orcish, but have it themed for Ixalan, I still need to own a copy of the real thing.
Which, because this shit never gets a reprint, ever, gets expensive fast.
>>96111093pricing is another issue. It'd be one thing if I was chasing an alt-art. But LotR will never get another print run, meaning my only chance at a One Ring now is to pay the high price tag, proxy (which I addressed in the other reply), or wait for a possible SL to shell out for.
>>96111097yea, but I enjoy having vested interest in my cards. If some people want to proxy, go ahead.

>>96110977with the right card choice you can make that $600 into $30 without much loss in power. Most card games magic included have a massive gap between card prices. I gave up on the plot and Universes Within when they went back to Mirrodin and ruined it so thoroughly. >UB has a lot of mechanically unique cards as well as more takes/support for archetypes I likeThat's a reason to hate them, retard. The choice to tie unique mechanics to a card means that said mechanics are almost guaranteed to never see a reprint. There's nothing about UB that necessitates these mechanics be tied to an outside property, it's a choice from WotC to attract people to the product line.

>>96109310My group regularly goes over 10.
>>96111205Here's the problem with that argument, corpo-simp, almost every single one of those companies you listed has some kind of alternative revenue for the product lines they ruined.
Disney's toy sales for the sequel trilogy were shit, but they made up for it because of their streamables and the merchandising following, and knew when to slow the pace when audiences were getting sick of the constant media output.
Blizzard... I have no idea because I honest-to-God don't know anyone who plays any modern Blizzard titles.
Pokemon has merchandising and Nintendo's fanbase, and a card game that (used to be) affordable and newcomer-friendly.
Riot had Arcane to boost League's branding.
To be quite honest, I have zero idea what the fuck you're talking about for half of those, but for the examples I do know, they've all got some edge over Magic. Magic. What the fuck is someone going to do if they don't like the UB product line? Play a couple underbaked standard sets?
I really want to compare this to Disney for a moment and all of their media acquisition. Disney in a sense is able to offer its own competition, so if one of its product lines, like the MCU or latest Star Wars series is underwhelming, it can offer an alternative alongside its potential competitors. They can offer a disappointing product and still retain consumers, it would take a widespread collapse of their catalog to force a mass consumer exodus. Magic does not have that. Magic's "internal competition" are other formats, but if the game pieces are shared, then them being fucked ruins a fuckton of formats. It makes more sense from a consumer's point of view getting into the product to pick up a simpler game that lacks this pricing-out flavor-suicide problem. That's partially why Lorcana is doing so well, because Wizards lost a significant portion of the player market, a space Lorcana filled in.
