Is there anything better than being a paladin?
>moral superiority.
>Muscles.
>Combat skills.
>Magic.
>Divine power.
>Magic armor and weapons.
>Unparalleled charisma.
>Everyone's respect.
>All the bitches you want.
>Is there anything better than being a paladin?
Yes, being a mage/ wizard/ sorcerer
Cleric.
>Also moral superiority but your god trusts you to be able to act on their behalf instead of being hamstrung
>Still strong enough to smack a bitch but you lean more on the holy powers
>Can literally summon angels or even talk to your god and ask for divine intervention
>Explicitly religious, atheist paladins are a thing, but there’s no atheist clerics
>>96112710>>96112714>3.5aboos crawl out despite their shit edition being the most at odds with the tone and design of the rest of the game's history AND futureI can't wait until you all die.
>>96112730What I said is true in every edition.
Yeah, Playing a Solo/Street Sam with augmented reflexes and killing everyone with smartguns and wolvers before they even could react.
>>96112743Clerics aren’t restricted from sex (in fact their restrictions on behavior are actually looser than a Paladin’s)
>front liner
>caster
>charisma
>well defined archtype to settle into
Yeah I’m thinking theyre the best. Always been relevant in combat or roleplay.
>>96112627 (OP)warlock gets all that AND a cantrip
the paladin is more likely to become king.
Stricter RP guidelines to keep your powers than Cleric, but if someone can pull off the Charismatic Soldier, it can be fun. Still, Cleric for me, but I dip in Pali once in a while.
>>96112627 (OP)only pala that looked interesting was treachery
>>96112627 (OP)The very nature of the Paladin is tarnished because it's an entire class, not something your class can earn its way into. Ironic considering you had to work to become a blackguard.
>>96112730>3.5abooshey, don't look at me, i played paladin no matter how MAD it was in 3.5
>>961176473.5 Paladin looked so unappealing to me as a Cleric. I genuinely think the 5.5 rules are better, but still not great. Smite is cool.
>>96112627 (OP)No, paladins are the best class in every game they're available, followed by rogues and bards, then wizards, then clerics, then rangers, and the rest are just the dregs
I will tolerate any munchkin babble, these classes are the ones with the best roles and clearest fantasies - mechanical viability will always be secondary to that

I like my paladins zealous.
I never understood the appeal of Paladins. They seem like the most boring and one-dimensional class.
Fighters or barbarians make for more interesting martial classes. Clerics/wizards/sorcs are better casters. Their code/alignment feels restrictive and makes them predictable from a RP perspective. The only interesting paladins are oathbreakers or fallen paladins trying to redeem themselves.
>>96118705The game by default needs a:"good guy" class
>>96118705People like you are exactly why paladins got changed in 5
>>96112627 (OP)I'm sorry you're either a woman or gay for mentioning muscles so early in your list.
>>96112627 (OP)Paladins are the ideal companion for the Artificer. They both got (different) magic, both hit things over the head and both benefit from cool weapons and armour. The Paladin covers for the Artificer being an autist and the Artificer covers for the Paladin being retarded.
>>96112627 (OP)>>96112714“Moral superiority” doesn’t exist
Morals are a spook.
>>96112743Someone has to console the widows and help with the fertility rates after wars, Anon.
>>96121153All thoughts are spooks, it just so happens that most people want to bash your head in with a hammer for being a psychopath, and the hammer is real.
Why are all white male paladin players brown irl?
>>96122422Do you have evidence for this claim?
>>96122754This.
Most of them are "nice guy" type white dudes.
>>96118705The code/alignment stuff is the point, oathbreakers are the least interesting paladins (most of the time, certain exceptions may apply) because they’re just paladins without all the character traits that make a paladin.
>>96124433My assumption is that Paladins are a fun RP focused change of pace for tanks or people that just want to play an armor dude.
Honestly, they are fun to play when you can be tongue and cheek and your party plays along.

Paladin in Curse of Strahd, yes or no?
My idea is as follows
>From Oerth, Kingdom of Furyondy, City of Chendl
>Foundling raised in the temple of Heironeous, chose to become a paladin when he came of age
>Went out adventuring to bring justice to the rest of the Flanaess
>Wandered into the mist when he heard cries for help and wound up in Barovia
>Starts off confused as to why Heironeous allowed him to go to such a hellish plane
>Maybe later on in the campaign, he gains a renewed sense of justice and wants to bring hope to the people of Barovia, show that justice and virtue can exist in such a hellish domain, and ultimately end Strahd's tyranny
>>96112627 (OP)Playing traditional games but you wouldn't know anything about that.
>>96112627 (OP)Being an ANTI paladin, because good is for suckers.
fighters with no magic are much cooler
>>96121284>it just so happens that most people want to bash your head in with a hammer for being a psychopathNo they don't. Psychopaths tend to be glib and charming enough that most people don't mind them. The word itself has really just become synonymous (at least to proles) with "serial killer rapist."
Besides, what people want has little to do with what actually happens in life. Irl, psychos win hard and constantly because they can manipulate morally constrained idiots freely.
Draenei, my beloved, the ideal paladin, it's always been you

[Verse 1]
In the Fields of Glory, forged in fire bright,
A blade was raised in glory to banish endless night.
From the blood of tyrants, born of sacred flame,
Heironeous descended, crowned in honor's name.
[Pre-Chorus]
No oath shall be broken, no soul led astray—
The god of the righteous shall show them the way!
[Chorus]
Raise the sword of justice high!
Let the heavens hear our cry!
By the lightning in his hand,
We shall strike and make our stand!
With the shield of sacred light,
We ride forth into the fight—
In His name, we conquer fate,
By Heironeous, the Just and Great!
[Verse 2]
Through the vale of shadows, his knights boldly ride,
With banners of silver, with virtue as their guide.
His foes are deception, cruelty, and pride,
But truth is the hammer none can hope to hide.
[Bridge – Spoken/Chanted, with choral backing]
“Stand ye tall, O mortal kin,
For justice is no fleeting wind—
It is the storm, the voice, the flame,
That bears the Archpaladin’s holy name!”
[Chorus]
Raise the sword of justice high!
Let the heavens hear our cry!
By the lightning in his hand,
We shall strike and make our stand!
With the shield of sacred light,
We ride forth into the fight—
In His name, we conquer fate,
By Heironeous, the Just and Great!
[Solo – Epic Guitar Battle between Valor and Corruption]
[Verse 3 – Key Change, Uplifted]
Now the hour of battle rings on distant plains,
The tyrant’s grip shall falter, undone by holy chains.
From the lips of martyrs, from the cries of kings,
Heironeous rises on valor’s gleaming wings!
[Final Chorus – Choir & Lead in Harmony]
Raise the sword of justice high!
Let the heavens hear our cry!
By the lightning in his hand,
We shall strike and make our stand!
With the shield of sacred light,
We ride forth into the fight—
By His law, we seal our fate,
For Heironeous, the Just and Great!
We live in the age where all staples are overdone. How good a class is is defined by its ability to be played outside of staples.
Go a step further. How often a class is played outside of staples, if we exclude the players as a random factor, is tied to how easy and obvious it is the twist the class's themes.
How obvious is it? Not very. It takes some creativity to do it with paladin and you often have to work with the gm.
How easy is it? Very. Actually writing this stuff shouldn't be difficult in any way.
Overall, I give it a 7/10. Paladin is solid, and it helps that it's also like, THE newbie class that still holds up later, both in 3.5 and 5. It's not as bad as the nothingburger of monk or the overbearing of warlock, but it's nowhere near a sorcerer or ranger.
>>961420923.5 Paladin is infamously bad later unless you know exactly what you're doing with it.
>>96112627 (OP)>>96112714Clerics and Paladins shouldn't fight.
I hate how the Paladin is tied inextricably with the sword and board aesthetic.
>>96142508How late are we talking? If you've made it to like level 10+, assuming you didn't just start high level, you're already past being a newbie at that point and likely firmly into buildcrafting territory.
There literally isn't. Doesn't even matter the game. Paladins are the GOAT.
>>961426457+. The problem with Paladin is that you need to headhunt a build from level 1 if you want them to not suck later.
Does your setting have a designated paladin god?
