Why isn’t TTG art like this anymore?

Times and tools of the trade change, man.
Maybe we're at the point where TTG art like that can make someone take a second glance and consider picking up the game or models based off art in such a style or utilizing such tools.

I gotta say, I love the crazy architecture in the background, but the awkward proportions on the Chaos Marines just take me out of it too much. It would be nice to see more stuff in this more simple comic book style that's better put together, though.

Firelock doesn't do much of the splashy, 80s metal album cover stuff, but they are keeping the retro pen and ink art style alive, so there's that.

I think part of the issue is the artists get paid less than the materials to do something like this. You have to go digital just to save money.

In general, GW corporate has decided to cut back on art. There are a number of causes and I probably don't know them all.

One is that they want more art that shows saleable products. The reason for this is to sell products, of course, but also to crowd out cheaper brands of mini company making minis based on art with no equivalent miniature.

Another is that they're cheap. Good artists can command higher pay, and the suits don't like that, they don't believe people care about art enough to justify it.

Finally, GW does not like artist loyalty AT ALL. Celebrity artists have leverage over them in terms of negotiating pay, and they "steal" customers for other brands when they leave. Because of this, GW does not want artists signing their work and better artists do not want to be treated with the disrespect of having their name expunged from their craft.

Those old OP pieces look like they're just inserting the game figures in action scenes instead of depicting what the figures represent in the imagination. It's like literally drawing green army men fighting the vietcong.

No it wasn't "better times". You just believe that because those were your prime formative years where you could just focus on having fun and didn't have any real responsibilities. That's why everyone, regardless of what time period they come from, claim the era they happened to be teenagers in were "better times." And everyone always believes the world gets worse as they age because the simple truth is life just becomes less fun as we age.

Because you hate it. It's that simple. You can pretend to like it because it's old but deep down you find it horrendous - and I'm not saying you're right for that, you just have poor taste - because it doesn't mesh with your stunted manchild complex about how seriously you are supposed to be able to take 40k. Muh proportions!!!!!!!!! The guns look silly! The colours are too loud! or some other nonsense. They're never going back to it because it would be screamed out of existence with unending hatred. You asked for blandhammer, blandhammer is spiritually hollow, and then the hollow was replaced by reddit tier takes on the lore and woke jargon and revisionism and all the rest of it.

>No it wasn't "better times".
Objectively they were
>economy was better
>house market was better
>better presidents
For any measure possible, those were better times.
No, this isn't about "old = better". Today is better than living in the medieval times or during world war 2, doesn't mean it's better than 10/20 years ago.

The idea that "things always get better with times is just as retarded as the idea that things never get better.
I the kids living during the great depression were having a worse time than the kids that lived during the previous generation.

We can objectively measure things anon, it's not about pity slogans like "it's just nostalgia".

Holy shit someone gets it, I didn't have to essaypost this time.
It's like this all across every fucking industry, especially for the last bit.

There's 1 thing I think you needed to expand upon but it's really important
>they don't believe people care about art enough to justify it
This is true but misses important context:
Their TARGET AUDIENCE doesn't care about art enough to justify it. A lotta companies just keep expanding and trying to chase the lowest common denominator. As they expand into global markets that have more-retarded cultures run by tyrants who wear miltiary berets or polo shirts, they end up toning everything down.

My imagination of models and shit fighting is closer to OP image than your image.
But I also largely stopped watching movies that were made within the last 10-15 years with only rare exceptions, so maybe I've just not been as mindbroken as you.

>>96131374
>>96131396
Things are actually improving but mass culture is getting worse. As mass culture crumbles niche cultures are growing. People upset that things are overall getting worse are usually people who got too used to thinking that shoveling money into a shallow common-ground with others would net them big returns socially and leisurely, instead of the demands just increasing and the quality of what they do and the quality of people they meet through it getting worse.
