Easily the best thing in the entire range so far by a large margin. I can't stomach what they have delivered today.

Really ugly weapons, and general art style to their armor. The green color scheme the studio used is DISGUSTING and probably makes me more hostile to the army than they deserve, but generally pretty weak execution of the concept.

The hobgoblins are surprisingly good though given how bad they were in the kruelboys

I'm neutral on the Helsmiths. I've never liked any previous version of Chorfs to be fair, so these guys even reaching the level of "Maybe..." for me is technically an improvement. I'd like to see some alternate paint schemes on them, at the very least.

I do really like the new hobgrots though, and the bull centaurs, and I think all the infantry guys and spellcaster heroes look OK-ish. The Despot or whatever looks like a dweeb, though. The dreadnaught thing is too fat for it's own good, the artillery weirdly doesn't seem to fit the overall army aesthetic, and the giant bull mount is sort of confusing to look at. It looks halfway between a statue and a robot, when it would be better if it committed to one or the other. Really would like to see that model in particular with different paint jobs.

Mixed. The center piece is begging to be decorated, I’ll add some chains, maybe some corpses.
The shirtless bulls are cool, I’ll probably add something else though. Dunno what yet.
The actual dwarves are okay, although I want to see the options in depth. REALLY wish they had axes and not spears, although maybe that’s for the elite variation instead ( supposedly there’s a second wave soon after?)
The arty and the chaos brute are fine. You either love them or hate them.
Lack of body horror or incorporations of demons is puzzling though, and is my main complaint.
Will be buying the wizards, bvlls, and hobgrots or whatever. I’ll be waiting to see what the second wave brings, hopefully an upgrade sprue to make ard boyz into punished vassals.

Pleasantly surprised, thought the kb ones looked ugly as sin so didn't expect anything, but they actually look good.

The HR Lady dwarf is actually kinda cool, she looks like a proper bitch. Rest of the kit is fine too.

Overall they're decent but not living up to the hype. Better colours will help.

That has nothing to do with the nu-chorf design, so I disagree. The real problem with the artillery is when you compare it to the giant robot, the gun/flamethrowers infantry, and the huge stone bull. It doesn't feel like it was built by the same culture as the rest of the range.

I have waited 15 ish years and apparently this is an uncommon opinion but I LOVE them.
Was so scared they'd go for an adjacent aesthetic and fuck it up, but I love the burning-crusade art deco rendition of the mesopotamian Dwarfs.
My condolences to those who waited as long as me and don't like them, but I don't care. No amount of complaining can change my mind on the fact that I like them.
My only complaint if any is that I don't like the armor on the standard centaurs that much, and I would have liked the Taurus to be flesh. Don't hate it as stone though.

That being said, I think a unit of widowed chorf women looking to prove themselves and keep their husbands' property could work. Have them be heavily armour and ranged focus, with low leadership and shit melee. Their goal is to survive, so they have no interest in getting into the thick of it. Similarly, a suicide squad of lower-class chorf crones past their breeding years could work as well, as Chorf society wouldn't consider them to have any value.

For me, it's not just a cultural war on femininity, it's a war on creativity. If everyone is capable of doing everything, then it all just becomes the same bland slurry. In older Fantasy and 40k, where you saw the individual sexes, and the roles they assumed, told you a lot about each faction/species.

Human females are weaker than men, so in the Empire or Bertonnia, you'd never see them as state troopers or men-at-arms, but you could see them as mages from the colleges or damsels in service to the Lady. An exception to this rule would come in the form of chaos worshipers or vampires - both of whom benefit from supernatural enhancement to their physical capabilities. Conversely, female elves were quite common across roles. Why? Simple, super natural agility, an affinity for magic, and longevity which provided enough time to have kids and master any skills they wanted.

I just want some actual fucking thought put into this sort of thing. It adds so much to the world, but so many writers just can't be fucking bothered.

But as someone who likes chaos dwarfs and is obligated to like all of them from the 1980s ones with the Juggernaut/"dwarfs with spikes" to now simply because chorfs never get a foot in the door, I think these are surprisingly decent for age of sigmar's style. You got the sorceror, you got the hats, you got the artillery. It doesn't try to reinvent the concept or the wheel, which is something I feel age of sigmar often tries to do and fails at. okay, so between the green and purple paint scheme and the complete lack of anything resembling a berserker or axe, i think we can safely assume a few things

1: them not having any kind of berzerkers or axes and avoiding flame colors means they dont want to step on fyreslayers toes/aesthetic, which means fyreslayers are sticking around

2: them not doing the traditional red and gold chorf scheme means they want to differentiate them from the old chorfs or legion of azghor which to me indicates that the old ones in some form or another are going to the old world and they will get the resins and/or metals in the future.

it might be trying to read the tea leaves a bit, but i think those are some fairly sturdy inferences from why the new chorfs studio scheme looks so weird and why they dont seem to have a lot of the usual dwarven fire and axe flair.

I was really really looking forward to the dark and bleak aesthetic of chorfs coming to a modern game but I’m disappointed in how rectangular they made the hats and weapons. Skaven/Skryre have the artillery and chaos tech theme down better. Also they don’t have the weird desaturated purple color. Everything is just way too fucking angular and square.

The giant bull mech looks like it’s about to take two steps then fall over cause it can’t catch itself fall wit those double gun-hands. The Taurus also doesn’t look like a machine. It’s more of an animated statue or a Jade sculpture. If it’s not a daemon or magical creature, then where are the vents or pistons or rivets? Juggernauts look more chorf than the new Taurus.

I’ll probably buy or print a character and see how I like them afterward.

Overall, I like the chorfs a lot. People bitching that it isn't exactly what they wanted was inevitable. Only thing I'll criticize are the paintjobs and beardless chords. Normally idgaf about mixed gender units, but the beards are too iconic to not have in key units like the melee and ranged infantry. Hopefully they have enough head options that it won't be an issue
