That said they might have become less retarded about it. I printed Ehecatl the Devourer back when it first came out and it's still to this day one of the most retarded prints i've dealt with. Good looking renders regularly trick me into printing something, and after seeing the parts or full miniatures, i just dont like the miniatures at all. That actually is the reason i sometimes print test minis before filling a whole plate, just to see if final results (and assembly !) is okay.

Depending on resin colour, you cant see the details properly. Even with the best resin colours (medium grey usually), some details will appear soft to the eye, because of the slight translucency of the layers.
Also, if i print something now, with either a shitty printer, or sloppy settings (or both), it will look like shit, covered in layer lines. But that would not be a fair representation of an otherwise very good miniature

Half of the sculpts are usually modeled in such a way that the male and female heads have certain bodies to go with.
Most of the units have atleast half of the bodies being explicitly female (tits/bodyshape/neck on the body only being compatible with the female heads), forcing you to make a DEI force unless you want to buy twice the kits you would for a normal force.

I really don't get why they'd decide to do something so stupid, especially since the recent Total War release showed that the goofy old designs work remarkable well when brought up to modern proportions and levels of detail. The vidya has basically the entire old range present and they all look great, and they incorporated the Forge World models into the army as a subfaction of more elite units. The design team took what should have been an easy slam dunk - doubly so when you consider that for things like this the Total War developers actually work quite closely with GW's designers to create their in-game models - but some idiot decided to WoW-ify them instead.

The only hope now is that some absolutely insane person on the TOW team convinces GW leadership to sign off on either re-releasing the Forge World range (probably unlikely) or even creating a second new plastic Chaos Dwarf range (snowball's chance in hell).

It really is a shame, I was waiting to see how the chorfs shook out before deciding if I wanted to dip my toes into AoS. And while I don't think the new models are awful per se, they're decidedly a step down and also nothing I'd be interested in. If I had to pick an army as it stands, it'd probably be the spooky blankets or the ogres because nothing else in AoS really speaks to me, and even those two aren't enough to make me take the plunge.

This is a good point. In the recent Cathay developers diary they harped on about giving the TW team very specific designs to work from so that the vidya assets would look like the miniatures they'd eventually release. Not the case at all with chorfs sadly.

There's some sort of AoS design mandate at GW that says "don't let a faction be too obviously influenced by a historical source", and so factions which had a WHFB equivalent generally have ended up with wishy-washy pseudo-grounded but not really aesthetics, like Free Cities. But they don't even really 100% adhere to it, Soulblight Gravelords traded their more european armor aesthetic in WHFB for a very Ottoman-esque look. And surprise, it's one of the better looking ranges in the game.

People always complained that aos kits are too over-designed, and lack options (I was one of those people), but now I really like what they've done with the range.
