I'll be honest, I miss the real Space Marines so much. The real Angels of Death. Those who were the desperate thin line on Macragge, on Armageddon, on the World Engine that wiped out the Astral Knights. Those who fought each other in the Badab sector.

Forge World Chaplain Dreadnoughts and resin bits. Brothers cast in the 80s still being usable with their later plastic brethren.

Tactical Squads coming with a plastic Missile Launcher and Flamer for some fucking reason lel.

Now they are endless and limitless but not in a cool way. Not in a tone befitting those that came before.

Yes anon. Warhammer is dead. 40k and TOW are shallow husks of the cool hobbies they used to be. Capeshit novels, Twitch reveals, Tau hentai gooners and DEI quotas for your models are all that's left. Its a bitter pill to swallow but there are still small pockets of people who love classic Warhammer.

volkite was kinda ass most of 2.0
the real cheese was lascannons double shooting through the reaction mechanic and dreadnoughts being too efficient and most people developing an honor code of 1 dreadnought per 1000 points.

Horus Heresy 2.0 was a good game with a few problems, very minor compared to mainline 40k, and far more soulful

This is honestly one of the saddest most depressing kinds of hobbyist. You get cool people who are not neophobes and do things like make oldschool warhammer armies that suit their own preferences without asserting moral superiority, but mostly it's sad old grog boomers who probably don't actually have anything old outside of a few unpainted lead space marines.

Really grim shit. Like the dudes in their 50s who constantly whine about comics. Nothing else in their life at all and the flame is so close to out of gas.

Both are trying to force others into their own moral world view. Righties just say what they mean and twist the bible to justify being giant ninnies who can't resist their own temptations. Lefties infiltrate and demean through the lens of marxist thought and anti-patriarchal values to shame those into social submission.

Lefties are better because they know how to change social perception and play the victim. Also people were sick of christ crap before they targeted table games so they had a disadvantage. That and the courts favored the nerds rolling dice to the screeching middle aged woman

Nah GW noticeably went from the Design Studio members having a real freedom, to now were literally nothing is made without full approval of a host of suits and everything is designed by committee.

There are some later products that have a flicker of that permissiveness in them but it's quickly snuffed out after several new editions within a handful of years.

This.
For me, one of the joys of being an adult is that I can understand, enjoy and take pleasure from more things. As a kid I Ioved the hyperdetailed, grimdark pencil art of 3rd-4th ed (none of that Blanche crayon shit) and wouldn't play anything other than "official" rules (are we playing 40K or an improv class?); with time and experience I've come to appreciate the loose John Blanche sketches and making up exciting, characterful bullshit scenarios and rules. There are more models available than ever, there's a manufacturer for every style and I'm splashing around in the middle of it with more skills, disposable income and friends who play than 11-year-old me could have dreamed of.
Then you get these grogs whose enjoyment and perspectives have withered with age. It's depressing.

This is the kind of shit Kill Team should be about. Not a bunch of different factions of course, but a fully diverse squad of characters with each one doing something different and unique. Instead it's mostly just a single box of whatever units from whatever range and you might have a couple of special weapon options. A Guard Kill Team should play like elite, specialist commandos like pic rel.

You just described getting old for most people in some aspect of their life. Every old dude and lady I've ever met has at least one thing they're cheesed about now that it's different. The difference is now that some of those old dudes are computer literate and hang out in places that 20 years ago would've been all teenagers and 20 year olds. You'd never know they were old af, until you call them a zoomer and then they'll usually take their Clark Kent glasses off and flip out.

Unironically the specialist games stuff is always stellar. Warcry, underworlds, kill team, necromunda, bloodbowl, imperialis, warhammer quest all get phenomenal minis, and the gameplay is usually really fun. I think a lot of new people joined up around 8th, and made 40k their whole personality, and in turn missed out on a lot of the really good stuff still out there. Now it's a decade later, and those 40k people are getting burned out, they've seen everything, nothing excites them anymore, nothing meets their expectations because they've spent ten years building those expectations. I think spreading yourself out across many games means that you get more things to be excited about and also those things are way more exciting.

That's the thing that kind of blew me away when I looked into SLA for the first time for minis. I thought for the longest time that scene was just a rule-of-cool tech scene to go with the development of the chips and not actually based on real technology. It still blows my mind we had things like FDM far earlier too with people like Terry Davis actually working on the tech before going crazy.

>hasn't actually played modern Kill Team
Each box is packed with so many unique characters that I genuinely find it tedious to learn and play.
I converted up a Dark Eldar killteam and you need the Leader Guy, the duelist, the two weapon torture guy, a sniper with a fucking bird, the poison grenades guy, the poison needle doctor guy, the heavy and special weapons guys and the regular guys. They all do wacky unique stuff on top of their wacky unique team special rules, and they are just a shitty box upgrade team: by the time you're looking at Inquisition Agents shit gets even more extreme.
I was happy just modelling my regular guys, pointing at one and saying "this is Bob, he's really lucky with his armour saves so he's really religious now!" Noe Bob is an Astra Militarum Zealot Veteran with special rules for the Emperor protecting him and his Uplifting Primer modelled on the figure in perfect CAD sculpting.

Best to think of each edition as a new game and setting, (but with the old title slapped over it to make the new thing sell to retards). The 40k you knew is no longer marketed and sold, but don't confuse that with it being 'dead', it's only a term used by the sellers and those with their mouths stapled to the seller's cock. The version you like is still being PLAYED and if you look around on internet and real life groups you have a good chance of finding others who prefer the version you do. You could even start a group yourself if you have interested friends.

I see it more as being as a sort of scifi historical gamer, like someone who is interested only in say, real world WW1 technology and tactics. Just because more advanved stuff is used in later battles doenst mean they have to dump their old collection of Tommies and buy the latest drones and Abrams. In the end it's all things that give an endorphine rush - some like to stick with early stuff, some like to chase only the latest thing, while others get their rush from insulting those who do things differently from them.

also no one has any customization options, characters are just baked in. your marine captain can't be a veteran stern guard commander with kracken rounds or a biker or a jump get guy. twin lightening claws, sure only if it's in the data card. otherwise it's that
maybe marines are a bad example because there is A MODEL for just about every load out but you understand.
