>>96146994But have you considered: old thing good, new thing bad?
I'm newer to the game so I'm not quite understanding how this happened.
Opponent had Possibility Storm out. I played a creature card. It got exiled in response to Possibility Storm, and it exiled the top cards of my library until another creature card was found. It was greyed out and said "you can't play these spells". Then I had nothing left to do. I thought it was supposed to allow me to cast the next exiled creature card without paying its mana cost. What the fuck happened?

>>96147037It literally draws 2+ cards every turn, and you can draw even more with a X creature for 3 or 4, the amount of card advantage it can generate is insane, it's just a matter of being able to protect it from removal.

>>96148075>What went so wrong? They should've made the station numbers higher, in a month from now everyone will be crying about how broken the mechanic is.

>>96148075They have to stop designing sets with Cummander in mind. Shitty mechanics, pointless legendaries, horrible recurrent elements like tokens, 0 original ideas.
This was the last Magic set of this year, i know it will break something in constructed but i expected a lot more of it.
>>96148075Take Battles
Apply the following changes:
>ETB effects cost 1-3 extra mana for the same effect>Creatures can attack the battle with haste and unblockable and attack despite defender>Defense raised from 3-5 to 7-12>Flipped side of battles severely nerfed, no longer have powerful cast/etb/activated abilitiesA 2 mana battle could get you a loot + treasure. On rate for 2 mana. With 5 defense it flips into a 3/4 that tutor-loots for a land or battle. Meanwhile a spacecraft costs 4 mana to loot. It takes 8 station to become a french vanilla 4/4 flying, no ability for unlocking it.
You cast a big splashy battle you can wipe the board or cascade into fetch quest or destroy any target. You flip it and you get a huge ETB trigger, or a monarch draw, or token spraying machine. 2 mana to tax a card out of their hand, 3 defense to flip, and you start getting a +1/+1 counter on your attackers each turn and a zero mana shield vs interaction or sweepers
How many stations are just
>cast spell or play land>get artifact with no rules text or tapped land with no abilities>need absurdly huge station cost>becomes sucky vanilla creature>becomes rampland that doesnt matter on turn 7 Fucking disgraceful
Battles weren't great but they showed WotC going through a long R&D to make them as best as possible. Now Hasbro has them churn out slop at breakneck pace so they phoned this shit in and gave us vanilla creatures and 20 station on a 5 mana card knowing it can't be played in any format. Safest thing for them to do, tank their own set rather than blow up standard again
I can't bring myself to play Golgari, Orzhov or Rakdos. Deadfully boring and unfun playstyles.
>>96148207>Can I just build a blue deck and do fine? No. The game is extremely power crept. You basically have to play the cards designed to be the best cards or you're going to eat dirt.

>>96148648>506.2. During the combat phase, the active player is the attacking player
>>96148632>>96148646Then just put that on the card. There is space on the card.

>>96148667Are you the same guy who sperged out about representation of rooms
>>96147262You have to make sure it dies every turn so it doesn't slip into exile.
Also, warp is sorcery speed?
Bloodghast can be brought back on enemy turns with any instant speed land ramp.
>>96148667But sometimes there's no space on card, that's why we shorthands when applicable.
>>96148664>If we hand wave it in the rules, it makes sense. It's still wrong.
The rules ought to reflect the ideal state of the game's syntax. The ideal state of the syntax is one where each action and set of actions perfectly reflects the objects taking that action.
Players are not game objects that attack. Creatures attack, not players. To alter the rules in order to facilitate bad, broken wording is design failure.
>>96146893 (OP)>TQIronically, it's probably this guy. I was brewing with Icetill Explorer for a while, and while it is really cool what it can do with fetchlands, it's probably gonna stay anchored to the Tifa landfall deck. Not only does this other guy help pad out artifacts in a delirium deck, but its ability to tap anything else means you can either tap a 3-mana planeswalker (i.e., Grist in modern) or something like a Dredger's Insight or impending Overlord of the Balemurk to fix your mana in whichever way you please. Don't know if it's better than Molt Tender, but I'm definitely gonna try to do some interesting stuff with it.
>>96148075Vehicles in general have always been difficult to make work in standard. They either have to be cheap and pushed as Hell, have some sort of insane ability that basically wins you the game or you need something like Greasefang to effectively free-cast vehicles and let them attack immediately. We have half of one of those in standard, but not much else. Maybe someone will make Salvation Engine work now that we have more artifact creature support, but I doubt it.
Anyway, rant aside, people were already struggling to find uses for vehicles outside draft and commander, and now they throw at us vehicles that are even harder to crew that are mostly just mediocre creatures. If they had better passive abilities, they'd probably have some use, but based on the way they implemented them, it's high risk with little reward.
>>96148681Nope. I just think WotC shouldn't shorten effect text to be misleading/confusing.
>>96148685I think if they run out of text space on the card that should be a red flag to chill out on the effect. Not everything needs to be saga/vehicle/have 4 effects and a flipside.

>>96148275Hey, that's the monster from that MAD manga!
Vehicles are just a design mistake and reflect a deep misunderstanding of how people play the game.
The very hoop of casting and having a creature in play (not to speak of having a power high enough) to turn the stupid vehicle on means that the vehicle has to have an insanely powerful effect to be worth the cost. For it to be playable outside a kitchen table or a low powered draft it has to be removal, big numbers, draw a card and make a food and make a food and draw another card and so on.
You know what's even better than casting a vehicle like that and another creature to crew it? Casting 2 FIRE creatures that already do all those things.
Stop. Trying. Vehicles.
Is shit, will never work, no one likes it and is boring.
Make Affinity work, Make Ammunition shenanigans, Make Sac work but stop with this ridiculous shit. DFT was trash, EOE is trash, fucking stop stupid designers.
>>96148781>Stop. Trying. Vehicles.>Is shit, will never work, no one likes it and is boring.I'll I'm hearing is MORE VEHICLES!!!!!!
Clearly we just haven't done enough of them to figure it out. We need to do more until they work.
>>96148781But have your considered....saga vehicles? Perhaps we just need to do more retarded experiments for vehicles to finally have the spotlight.
>>96148781Cummander crew loves them though :D
>>96148781We heard your complaints, but because sets are designed so much in advance, you'll still get 3 years (15 sets) of vehicles
>>96148781I'm not even mad about vehicles, I'm mad about unnecessarily splitting the design sace between vehicles, mounts and spaceships
>>96148781What really makes me mad about EoE is that we had the chance and the hopes for Slivers and Eldrazi support and instead of that we got a bunch of "Station" cards that no one will use. Truly madness.
>>96148810>Artifact - Submarine>Submarinate N>(Tap any number of untapped creatures you control with total power N: This submarine surfaces until end of turn.)
>>96148826Let's spice it it a bit tho...
How about toughness instead of power?
>>96147262that could be sweet with a sac or discard outlet and anything that cares about cards entering or bring cast from the graveyard. i think dredgevine really likes it for sure.
how does it ruin anything though? surely there's enough interaction across formats and especially graveyard hate to slide this into 'niche but powerful' territory, rather than breaking anything.
>>9614881090% of card designers quit before making an off-shoot of vehicles work.
>>96148831Don't forget to use another name for the subtype and ability so every thing that worked with vehicles (then saddle, then spacecraft) won't anymore
>>96148795Maybe don't say retarded shit you don't know. I want to make a vehicles commander deck and haven't been able to find one that won't be unmitigated garbage or just a pile of 'sorta goodstuff'.
Pilots matter is a lost cause, Greasefang is just artifact reanimator with an angle, extending to mounts is just a goofy value pile; not to mention more and more vehicles are just Crew 1.
Unless there's a breed of super-timmy out there that I haven't seen, a lot of vehicle design space is just so bad it might as well not exist. Only the most cracked vehicles and vehicle derivatives ever see play and only in niche spaces.
I suspect outside of limited, Stations will be similar.
>>96148825Slivers I'm fine with them not doing since by design they end up taking over like half a set due to needing a bunch of them to function plus they've mostly exhausted all the "your Slivers have insert keyword/ simple mechanic" design space at this point so there wouldn't be too much interesting to do with them
>>96148887all vehicles should've been crew 1 from the start. The mechanic should've just been "tap an untapped creature you control to crew a vehicle"
also they probably hsould've all had vigilance for it to matter

>>96149595It's VERY easy to not notice that it doesn't say 'you control'. It's a card aimed pretty much entirely at limited, it's a fairly bog-standard effect, somebody just forgot that crucial part and nobody really paid enough attention because it's just "Green Bite Spell", one random card amidst hundreds.
So I just got into mtg. After doing a bit of research, there's the physical cards, Arena, and Online. What's the general consensus on getting into magic? Should I play physically with friends and people at my LGS, and just F2P my way through Arena? The idea of buying digital cards doesn't sit well with me.
>>96150757Arena's probably the best way to learn to play, but if you wanna actually get into starting a collection... You kinda just buy singles you want.
>>96150757F2P on Arena will get you enough to try out a bunch of starter decks, probably the best way to try out the game for free. Online needs you to buy in, though I think there's options that are relatively cheap (been ages since I've tried it). For paper, you either buy a bunch of chaff from your LGS at like $20 for a giant box of assorted shit cards and just mess around with those with friends, or you buy the actual starter decks and mess around with friends. If you're trying to play at your LGS with an actual deck, you should buy singles. Never open packs unless you're playing draft or sealed.

>>96150772Yeah, I'm learning on Arena currently. The challenges and bot games help with that a ton. Right now I'm just ignoring the billions of boosters Arena threw at me so I don't get bogged down in all the wacky abilities/keywords they have.

>>96151769>modern/legacy/paupermodern and Legacy? The formats that are constantly rotating since Modern Horizons 1?
Pauper?
The format that they ban key cards to decks all the time?
You must be joking or actually never look at the price of the cards that you supposedly buy.
>>96152023If you've been playing the game long enough it's really not hard to know which Legacy staples are going to retain their value. (buy original printings)
Modern I'm not the biggest fan of but you can find one deck to buy into and stick with it, constantly chasing the newest thing is more likely to burn you. I've only played Amulet Titan for the last couple years. Boseiju and Urza's Saga I play in Legacy, Amulets/Scapeshifts have gone up slightly and I'll only get burned on them if the deck gets banned (which I guess is possible but they haven't for a decade so..). Everything else was cheap.
Ruling question, if my spell gets countered, does it still count as caster?
For reference, let's say I play a 3 mana cost non-creature spell with Y'shtola as my commander. Her ability says whenever I cast a 3 mana cost or more non-creature spell, her ability actives.
If my spell gets countered, does her ability still activate?
>>96152063Casting a spell puts it on the stack. It is casted.
On the stack is where things can be countered.
If the spell is not countered or removed from the stack in other ways, it resolves and either enters the battlefield (permanent card) or goes to the graveyard after applying its effects (sorcery or instant).
>>96152081So basically it has to be *successfully* casted, as in the stack must completely resolve before her ability triggers? I thought casted means I paid the mana and the spell gets activated, Y'shtola's ability activates before the resolution of that spell.
Also, how does the interaction between Alisaie and Alphinauld work? Alisaie reduces the cost of the second spell that gets casted that turn by 2, Alphinauld allows me to draw a card whenever the second spell gets casted that turn.
Let's say I first call Alisaie onto the board as my first spell and use her ability to reduce the mana cost of Alphinauld, since he will be my second spell. After he gets placed, do I get to draw a card since he was the second spell casted that turn or does his ability not activate since he was not on the board when the effect of "second spell gets casted" gets resolved? And even if I play another spell after, I still can't trigger his ability since that will technically be the third spell of that phase?
>>96152063>>96152096>put spell on stack>put the "on cast" trigger onto the stack above the spell>pass priority attempting to let the stack resolve (this is when the opponent can cast their counterspell)>order of resolution will be 1)Counter 2) Ability trigger 3)Your original spell(if it wasn't countered)Once you put a spell on the stack, it has been "cast". Anything that triggers based on "cast" will trigger, there is no requirement for resolution.
"Responding" is actually a short hand for having been passed priority by the active player.
>>96152096>So basically it has to be *successfully* casted, as in the stack must completely resolve before her ability triggers? I thought casted means I paid the mana and the spell gets activated, Y'shtola's ability activates before the resolution of that spell. How the fuck did you get that from

I don't play MTGO but for Sealed FF you recoup your entry fee when you go 2-4 and anything above that is profit.

>>96152747huh the rewards are in play points and the entry is calculated with tickets

>>96153074>What's the deal with MTGO vs MTGA anyway?MTGO is the official way to play digital magic, it was introduced way back in 2002 and it has almost every card in the game, therefore you can play modern, legacy, vintage, pauper, commander or whatever other eternal format you might be interested in
MTGA is essentially a hearthstone version of magic, it was introduced back in 2017 with the intent of getting people who like digital card games into standard, they have released a lot of cards since them and the client got its own formats like alchemy, explorer, historic and timeless
> Should I be playing one over the other if I haven't touched either?it's just a matter of which formats you want to play and asking yourself if you want to invest time or money, arena lets you play standard and draft for free but you gotta grind ingame currency to keep up, magic online lets you play a bunch of formats that aren't on arena, but you're gonna have to either buy or rent cards
usually people will start with arena, build a standard collection to get familar with the game and then, down the line, they'll give mtgo a try to see if they like the formats arena is missing, you don't necessarily have to ditch one over the other

WE GOING PLACES WITH THIS SHITBREW, MY BROTHERS.
Many of the Mine-type pieces are gone, in favor of the combo. High Noon's still there for how well it deals with Phoenix, though High Priest of Penance + Requiem Monolith covers much of those issues. Priest of Penance with an indestructible counter from Season of the Burrow is DANK.
Still much to test. It's feeling actually alright though. Being able to just instantly fucking murder people out of nowhere with Monolith+Sheo feels great.
Metropolis Reformer is a very good solution to the aggro slop that plagues the format right now. Block with it while it hoses Nemesis being able to hit you in the face, then bring it back indestructible with Season and you basically have the game on lock. Its ability also negates the life loss from Requiem and our big damage vomit so it kind of slots in.

and good drafters can even make money on Arena, their Limited tournament system is pretty generous and has weak competition.

>>96153301Both, there's queues that work like on mtga where you draft in a pod and then play with random people and a draft pod where you play within your own pod.

I've drafted probably a thousand times in my life, it really is a great way to play the game. Sealed is a good intro to draft.
>>96154270I fully expect I'll be whooped immediately, but I figured pre release will be less brutal than a standard tournament against people with pricey meta decks.
>>96147778>They nerfed green murder
Oh you wanted some Slives for Standard to go with the only Sliver card? Well fuck you, Alchemy will get new Slivers.
>>96154503>Two armsREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
the more I play with this card in standard the more I think it's just crushingly the best and only held back by being hard to play/a few answers that are rotating

>>96147778ah fuck off i was going to be the judge at our locals draft night, this is going to be a nightmare
>>96154537you literally just have to announce it beforehand retardbro
>>96154532If they don't ban this shit i don't know what this faggots are doing with balance
>>96154557you know there is always THAT one fatso
>>96154580I was trying to make Sephiroth work for awhile on Arena ladder and it was okay but required endless work and careful play to be mediocre.
Then I switched over to my prowess deck and every game is like "lmao all my cards are amazing, this is just a normal curve and if they don't kill Vivi they lose the game, if they do who cares, and if they do and I find Cauldron they just die anyway"
Vivi is going to be a problem. They didn't ban it at the last ban announcement because it's a chase mythic from the new set but a lot of top players said it was actually what was broken in prowess.
>>96154532This card feels unimpressive in play and comically broken under cauldron. I think cauldron might be the culprit for giving the ability of a 0 power creature to all of your creatures.
>>96154690It's insane in play too because it's a must answer threat. Yes they can kill it but if they don't they probably just lose the game. The fact that you can spend the mana on anything, even on activating abilities of permanents or casting non-instant and sorcery spells was probably a mistake. It's hyper pushed
>>96154532>>96154580I'm just sitting here praying for a ban just so I can grab it for collection's sake after it crashes. I don't have enough kidneys to sell for $70 a pop cards.
>vintage
>legacy
>modern
>nu-extended ("""standard""")
Dead.
>Coomander
Not MTG. Just a bunch of slop for trannies.
>Pauper
>Premodern
The only formats worth playing. Though premodern needs a reserved list ban to keep the prices of decks down.
>>96154835It's a lot more fun than "standard," legacy, and modern.
>>96154884No it isn't. It's also full of the gayest players of all time that think calling a deck broccoli or full english is funny. Premodern is for fags.
Alchemy will at least get another sliver.
>>96149595Their proof read staff might not know anything about mtg and just check for spelling errors. And even if they knew they might not send back a card because they don't know the intended wording.
>testersThey obviously don't play with final printed card versions.
>>96154580Has any point in the past 6+ years of Magic given you the impression the retards at WotC have any idea what they're doing with balance?

>>96155106have Alchemy cards been spoilered yet?
they're always complete nonsense based around some set mechanic WotC wants to push super hard in their format
>local shop is running prerelease
>you get a free pack for showing up
>each bracket you survive gets you a oack, then two, then three
>winning gets you the box
Time to pack some extra deodorant, because I'm going into the sweatshop.
>>96154919>his format doesn't have a deck named for breakfastTime to get ready for school Timmy
>>96155130No, only few arts.
The real money hack is to invest only in eternal lands when they get reprinted. So only shocks and only at $5
Do you think wizards can even ban UB cards?
>Invest
Every day I pray this garbage game to finally push it too far and crash and burn and every single card's value to drop to -0.01
I hope you suffer.
>>96155433You mean like the UB cards currently banned?
>>96155462Which ones are those? Didn’t see any that popped out from cursory look at the banlists

Is the Premodern tournament player around?
I'm wondering if MUD Prison is a real deck in that format.
Beautiful, beautiful MUD.
>>96155510There's 1 banned in modern (very conspicuous) and 2 banned in legacy (much less conspicuous)
>>96155540One guy at my shop plays something resembling mud, it seems ok
>>96155540>I'm wondering if MUD Prison is a real deck in that format.Absolutely.
It's an expensive deck to build though.
>>96154524The "big" ones often have more than one arm, mom got two and pops got 3.
>>96154931What are slivers "slivers" of?
>>96156154I don't understand the question.
>>96156169>sliver (noun)>a small, thin piece of something cut or split off a larger piece.
>>96156184I understand the meaning of the words. But the question appears to be nonsensical.
>>96156154They're slivers of some oldwalker's dick
>>96156204Well, they're a pseudo-hivemind, so the idea is each Sliver is part of a greater whole. A sliver, if you will.
>>96156535Then the answer to your question is, Slivers.
>>96154919Sounds like you have some mental issues. Maybe you should see a psychiatrist.
Looks like Izzet is the top deck again. I hate Izzet so much.
>>96156599Again, Vivi is just broken. The amount of mana it can make with very little setup is obscene. They didn't ban it because it's the chase mythic for the new set, dooming standard for another year
