RIP. He undoubtedly made a huge contribution to the world of modelling. I believe his grandson-in-law is the current president, so I don't expect any major cultural change within the company (especially in Japan), but it could be interesting to see if Tamiya tries to diversify after this too.

You're right, grandson-in-law Nobuo has been president for about a year. Shunsaku himself first retired from being president in 2007 and his son-in-law Masayuki took over. Shunsaku was back in the job about ten years later after Masayuki died following a long illness. Shunsaku first became president when his own dad, Yoshio the founder, died in 1988.

I inherited a few pots of Tamiya paint bought when Yoshio was president and they're still good. They weren't opened from 2001 till 2022. Seals on the lids are so good that they were like brand new, only one had evaporated slightly thinned it a little and it was good to go.

This is why I almost exclusively buy Tamiya for my modeling.

I had a similar experience, where I bought a pot of glue when I was a teenager back in like 2009, fell out of Warhammer, then got back into it in 2022, still using that same pot of glue until I used it all, no issues.

I also bought a Tamiya knife and nipper set when I was living in Japan for a few months 2 years ago, and the knife came with a ton of extra blades (at least 30) and here I am with the same knife and probably more than half of the replacement blades left. The nipper was kind of shit though not gonna lie.

Thanks Tamiya.

>Your paints?
Most wargamers seem to use Citadel, Army Painter, or Vallejo paints rather than Tamiya, at least in the UK and Europe.
Tamiya is best known for its plastic cement.
Could you explain the scale argument?
Most model Wargames are in 28mm which isn't a scale most Japenese stuff doesn't do
Anonymous No.96161715 >>96161766
>>96154213
>The reason your wargames are the scale they are?
OK, can you explain that one? I'm genuinely curious, Tamiya is usually associated with scale models and 28mm isn't a popular scale in those.
Anonymous No.96161766
>>96161472
>>96161715
Not him, but you can make the argument that due to heroic proportions, 1/48 vehicles look better next to 28mm WW2 soldiers raised a little bit higher due to their base, than 1/56 vehicles (which are more 25mm "true scale").
For quite some time (2002 onwards), Tamiya was the only company that released 2-3 vehicles or tanks per year in that scale, when all other big scale model companies used 1/48 as "aircraft"-scale only. In that regard, Tamiya was a true trendsetter, and its most likely only because of them, other brands nowadays also do 1/48 military vehicles.

Mods are usually site-wide, they’re reliant on jannies and user feedback to understand if something like this is actually on-topic. For example, /vt/ had to add a report option for IRL stuff because people got repeatedly banned for reporting it as off topic, as the board sticky says it is.
