Yeah you are seen as werdly powerful for a newbie.
As all of you can grow in power with training.
Originally you would have been clearly much more powerful than anyone else but because so much time has passed there are many more powerful than you that have spent hundreds of years becoming stronger even if they started out much weaker than you.
And this strangeness also shapes how the characters will see you some with hope others as a threat to the current power structure that has to be crushed before you bring down the system that keeps people alive.

How does magic eliminate the need for trade? Eclan cannot engage with trade except with its direct neighbors, without said trade ultimately being under the direct control of said neighbor. If you, say, needed a resource from Flanere, then Murkin at the least will be able to heavily tax and even restrict or stop the import of this resource by Eclan. This is how countries become impoverished and lose wars. It's not like flying helps either, as that's going through Murkin's airspace, where they can be shot down easily.

It has giant river so it can trade with everyone on the map via smaller coast bound ships.
Anonymous No.96159666
>>96159653
The giant river has to pass through Lotun and Clipsea's territory to reach the sea (which is far more valuable than upriver,) which can thus easily stop all of Eclan's trade. Eclan is at their mercy. Upriver trade can be stopped by Salns, Verend (which is obviously already doing that,) Enela, and Orchea. We have no idea what's beyond them if anything, it might just be mountains. You can't evade or sneak past river defenses like you can ocean patrols, it's too narrow for that.

Honestly probably true, water access is important. It does depend somewhat on what the greater world looks like however. If the world is not mostly water like our own, sea access becomes less important (though still important, if the meditterranean was blocked off at gibraltar it would still be massively helpful for trade).

Checking the map it looks like fantasy Switzerland, very defensive and surrounded by mountains, rivers and other nations. It does have two rivers that connect to the sea, one looking very large, so if navigable by boats that could be okay.

It also has three different nations (Welelah, Murkin and Paladia) between it and water so trade is not wholly under the control of one enemy nation either.

Still, the nation needs more living space and sea access must be secured for the future of our nation! Paladia is strong and rich and so can't be messed with. Welelah (whom the first river goes through) is a weaker mercantile country so they're probably the main trade partner and probably would not want to cut off trade to their wealthy powerful neighbor. The last option is Murkin, which is described as barren swamp no one cares about. Swamps do not tend to be infertile - the opposite actually - so getting our Netherlands on and developing polders and reclamation techniques would need considering.

Future actions would likely depend on the opinion of powerful Paladia and how happy they are with us expanding the realm into Welelah, vs what our surveys of Murkia indicate about the difficulty of taming the landscape. Honestly if Welelah *did* try to cut off trade that'd be a powerful cassus belli to use with Paladia and our own citizens ('we're not war mongering jerks, we have to take this country to prevent ourselves from being cut off again').
Anonymous No.96159703 >>96163256
>>96159673
If we look at the map the likely course for the continent is likely to be:
>Paladia will eventually absorb the economically wealthy but militarily inferior coastal nations of Nelsland, Welelah, and Clipsea
>Flanere will ally with Lotun to resist Paladia
>Vinia will absorb the rural farmland of Orchea
>What happens with Eclan and other interior states is pretty much up to you
The future continental powers are going to be Paladia and to a lesser extent Vinia, purely based on their positions and military opportunity. Eclan just isn't positioned to do much, unless you marry Victor in personal union and become part of Paladia. That's really the only opportunity for female players, while the best males can do is get an easier conquest of Verend, which is an interior country and thus has poor prospects long term as well. At least you'd still be Eclan, though. Your other marriage opportunities, male or female, are lesser princes/princesses not in line to inherit, except for Hadew's (which is an even weaker nation in an even worse interior position,) since if I remember right Flanere's has an older brother. So Eclan doesn't really have any opportunities to expand via marriage, only submit to Paladia or annex Verend, which has no sea.
>Murkin
Male character's can marry a vinefolk chieftess, who are effectively rulers of this region. So theoretically you could unify the country through her (though this'd take work since she's ONLY a chieftess.) They still don't have sea access, though. Female players unfortunately only get a stone golem who 'rules' a bunch of ruins that are already in Eclan though, so sadly they don't get that kind of opportunity at all, he's pretty useless.

"Nobody knows what he is doing. I guess not even he knows what he is doing. Aside from studying and training magic. For which his talents are in Spirit and Tech, judging from his choosing Junko and Iris as tutors. He also tries to learn from Yue but has no obvious talent for her Earth magic.
Whenever he does actually go fight the dark he works best as support, setting up some shields and then just firing a whole lot of guns he pulls from nowhere. And when the monsters get close he hits them with everything from knives and woodaxes also pulled from nowhere to uprooted streetlights. After all this time I don't even know what his actual implement is."

Misdirection is the name of my long game. Nothing to see here, just a rookie sleepless who uses Spirit and Tech magic. Picking my fights and never openly showing my Space magic while using Physicality, Aero and Celerity only subtly. Lightning trained from Sera is my big gun for when I absolutely have to use it, otherwise it is stealth with mostly mundane weapons either store-bought or created by Tech (Novice Tech can create swords and guns right?). My power will grow very slowly and I will be hiding most of it as best as I can, but I have more than enough time and no needs to fulfill. I probably do not even need a day job or official papers since I do not require a residence to sleep in or much anything else.

Ultimate Art: Continuous - "Destined Victory": a combination of spatial manipulation and my other schools to create a large zone of effects that help my allies and hinder my enemies, such as homing attacks for allies and anti-homing for enemies (Space), healing friends and possibly harming foes (Spirit), empowering friendly objects and sabotaging enemy ones (Tech), and using shielded hardlight to protect friends and block foes (Spirit + Radiant), as well as flashbangs, blinding auras, and possibly incinerating mundane targets (Radiant). None of this has to be massive - a hardlight pebble in the right place is worth a lot, as is a lack of fatigue, and an attack doesn't have to turn 90 degrees for homing to be effective. What makes this an Art as opposed to simply something I do with my magic is that it is largely automated, based on a semi-conscious thread of thought using constant Space-based scrying to scan for things of importance, and responding with appropriate minor uses of magic, meaning that I have some degree of awareness of everything it sees and does. Its origins as a form of spatial manipulation make it appear as a blob of magic encompassing everything and everyone within its zone without distinction, making it nigh-impossible to track its origin by traditional means. This zone is strongly non-uniform to avoid revealing its source, and I would only feed it magic when transformed, meaning it would run off of energy stored in its structure otherwise.

I am highly effective in direct combat due to high evasion (Space), high durability (Tech for armor, Radiant for hardlight, and Spirit for barriers) and extreme offense (Space + Radiant allowing for distance manipulation and absurd homing of high-damage beams, plus enhanced penetration to destroy a target from the inside). However, I presume this consumes energy fast, making Destined Victory and Tech-created drones a requirement for any sort of sustained conflict. I can hide my Dark speciality by only using it in combination with Light effects, making it look like a form of range extension and/or part of my Ultimate Art, which do break the rules a bit on their own. Teleportation can be disguised as Radiant-based by using flashes of light, and otherwise I just use Space in ways that make me look strong and skilled, but are fundamentally ordinary for Luminaries.

Despite that, the core of my build is Destined Victory, which can cause significant or even critical damage to the Corporations simply by targeting their facilities for a while. Serious equipment is both expensive and fragile, and I could do billions of dollars in damage in minutes, depending on the particulars of a location. This isn't a war to be won in pitched battle, but in undermining the enemy's ability to wage war.

My goal is to put down the creatures of Dark and the traitors who serve them, while also unshackling Luminaries and ensuring humanity won't become slaves to the Light, either, though a peaceful relationship with Light-aligned beings would be preferable.

As I mentioned, my build was not affected by that. I picked two different races, had two of my units renamed and added two additional units. My overall strategy is still the same and the only problem I can foresee is the addendum at the very end: that the cataclysm's damage will recover given enough time, allowing the goddesses to use their full might in the world again.

It's fair to say that I effectively discarded an Ultimate Art for an additional Master school. It's weaker than curse in a few ways, but stronger in others, plus it gives more selectivity.

The build would be better if I dropped Tech for Curse and changed its Ultimate Art, but as I said, I don't like it. Also, Curse can't have positive effects until it reaches Master rank, which would take a while.

>Quickened Spells
You cast spells faster, but winning fights is about magical strength and having tons of magical energy so go and pick something that gives you more mana dummy.

>Hungry Magic
This lets you draw upon ambient magical energy to boost your magical reserves. But unfortunately this is just an inferior option to large reserves, choose again idiot.

Nature itself tries to aid the user, responding to their will. The user's Flora magic seems to have a will of it's own, being autonomous and efficient, responding to their will and unspoken commands. Mushrooms sprout, flowers bloom, brambles reach and any plethora of other effects that the user would want are possible with a thought, and sometimes without, the magic attempting to be as helpful as possible. A curious side effect to this power is that animals and spirits associated with nature tend to respect and become more amiable to the user.

I struggled a lot to come up with an ultimate, and settled on this one. I don't really think i'm satisfied with it, but I wanted to at least get an updated build out for the new version. Same plan as before, i'm not necessarily on the side of light but I am absolutely against the corps and the evil in society. I serve as potent support, being capable of a staggering variety of effects through flora, pacts and supporting with spirit.

I chose my companions because I felt I could get along with them, Klaus could be a good friend, Junko needs a guide, and Iris feels a lot like me, all of them could be good allies to have. I'd probably bounce between teams and mentoring or helping people out, and I imagine the missions are in someehat chronological order, maybe with minor missions and training and stuff inbetween. I'm going to try to help people as best as possible, removing the devices instead of killing them, forcing the mental spirit out, etc.

I'll do my best. The world will become better, even if I must use force to make it so.

>Quickened Spells
not a trap: speed is just as important as magical strength or mana pool.
Having the first move and being able to attack before the enemy has a chance to defend themselves is very useful depending on the build
>INB4 "just take celerity"
the description of quickened spell already states that casting speed is a metaphysical speed, just because you move or think faster doesn't make you cast spell faster

>Hungry Magic
kind of a trap: it is mostly useless but in the rare places with leylines you might as well have near infinite mana, its the kind of quirk that is amazing to have in very specific places/situations but then again most of the time its just doing very little to help

>Shrouded Magic
trap option: very situational and very weak since you can still be tracked

I will also add as traps:
>Utility Spells
'oh yes I always wanted to clean the dishes instead of having an actually useful option' said noone ever

>tok option
the real monsters are not going to care about how good you are in bed when they are breaking your ribs

>Split Soul

Shrouded magic is meant to be used to hide your dark actions. As long as you are careful enough, no one will think twice about your actions being magic and a dedicated tracker won't even be called. Yes you should be found if there's suddenly a huge crater in the middle of the city, but a casual murder or theft can easily be written off as the city being the city if the first scan shows no magic trace.

I actually rather like Luminary. On one hand it's limited strictly to combat, more or less, with some use cases if you're creative.

On the other hand, it kind of ignores or side steps the problem of "you can do anything" while still allowing us to grow stronger in our magic.

And best of all, it alludes to the fact that humans as a whole can get to that 'do mostly anything stage' via ritualistic magic, runes, and symbols. Basically witch type, written magic, spoken spells, and Enchanting.

It's just in a nice neat package without saying something stupid like "well alright, you can make Illusions" with no limits.

Okay let me go through every level 2 magic to see what the best supplement is. Existing powers Are Radiant Specialty, Shadow Specialty, Force Master, Celerity Master. If I do not list one, assume that it is already covered by my existing powers and thus I deem it useless.

Spirit adds better healing and shields presumably stronger than my hard light ones can make.

I'm already fast but Physicality grants me super strength and ability to tank explosions which means I could start fighting the US military.

Tech is good but at Adept level it seems not worth it + I don't like the aesthetic

Bioshifting myself has a lot of potentially interesting applications, but I'm not sure how useful it is. I can already fly and can already destroy things, I don't need natural weapons. If I wanted to be invisible or disguise myself I could just go for illusion right?

Illusion at adept level seems incredibly powerful. And like it has utility.

Yeah idk. It is between Physicality II, Bioshifting II, or Illusion II

Sealing Magic and Defensive Magic can even target concepts like death and aging. Which is why Aozdou is immortal and has her own pocket world using Sealing Magic.

>Runecraft
It's basically word magic but using runes. It's limited to what words you use to make things happen, so not as powerful.

Alchemy in Magi Case can make magical artifacts, potions, homunculi creation, impact chemicals, make enchantments, change properties, etc. It is busted at its peak and btfo Technofags.

that's why I put in in "kind of trap" category, it is definitely a strong quirk, but:
A- you need to find and take over one of the few valuable leylines for yourself. Even if you aim for the leyline from the mission, the dark side already know exactly where it is and could target you at any time
B- the moment you step out of it, you lose this massive advantage. It might even be hard countered by domain ultimate arts depending on how exactly domains work

Can't use the healer/tank/dps rollout because healing is not an iconic superpower.
But the iconic types don't have any obvious gameplan. People have used the justice league as a template, but it's not clear what the role of a 'speedster' or a 'flying brick' is in a team.

No, the issue was that Diabolism was a free solution to all the problems presented, meaning that picking Purist or even moralist choices was objectively wrong and Adversary was right about everything and justified in all their actions. The cyoa basically presented choices only to make half of them seem irrelevant at the end.
In the new version, Diabolism still is theoretically a permanent solution, the issue is that a theoretical permanent solution now isn't viable in the short term, meaning that the other choices do matter now and killing planets is an actual choice you have to consider.

The issue is the new version retconning the previous one and making it clear that Tankista wants the Convention to be in the right, screwing over players of Blood Mage and the previous version of Magocratic Convention. This proves that he could and would retcon anything anyone decides to do besides Convention orthodoxy, it's the author's will they be correct.
>>96163472
Diabolism is not a viable choice in the current version. It's been changed to be unambiguously a trap. So again, the issue isn't that it got given a downside, but that it's been made a choice only a retard would take. Now it's not that Purist is objectively wrong, but Diabolism is objectively wrong, which is the same exact problem.

No, it says that Eclipse ruined the convention plans with all the Blood Magic drama, however we also know that a lot of the policies they take are stupid and wasteful, you still have to fix the convention before it can actually do things. And Adversary did sucked in their goal of creating a infinite mana source, after you deal with the ends of time no more planet will need to be destroyed anymore.

Their actions are ensuring a solid chunk of the omniverse are sacrificial lambs for a plan that might fail to fix a problem they most likely created, as the current host of Sargon is Terminus.
If anything everyone is presented in a bad light now.
And I'll repeat myself here, but nothing prevents you from writing a story where you don't need to sacrifice 75% of the omniverse. One of the contacts has three Specialization-tier schools and you're noted to be able to get beyond Specialization tier eventually. So with that knowledge I think you can eventually get more Specializations than you start (with the talent for since none of this is instant) with, it'll just take more time. Get to Master in the other Light school so you're better positioned for that.

Absolutely true, which is why taking the Shrouded Magic or the Plain Regalia is better. It's still very useful for setting up your various magics without getting caught, though, and for avoiding surveillance in general. Also, in combat it's far more useful. Avoiding getting attacked is far more useful for squishy casters, which is why it's so helpful.

I think the idea of reality being Azathoth's dream originated from some of the early post-Lovecraft writers.

Personally, I think it's a misinterpretation of Lovecraft's work. At some point (I don't have the exact reference handy), Lovecraft said that if Azathoth ever woke up, it would mean the end of reality. I read the line to mean that Azathoth would actively destroy the universe, if he/she/it ever woke up. Not that existence is a dream (which is more Elder Scrolls territoryl.
