So at this point, I just keep playing and getting my ass blasted until I git gud? The only thing that scares me is that the good paper decks are like $300. That seems pretty bananas to me.

>>96158061if you don't want to get overwhelmed, you can just stick to standard and limited, the vast majority of decks you will build and play against are pretty straightforward, you only need to worry about old mechanics and weird interactions if you plan on branching into older formats
>>96158061Just stick to the starter deck queue for now, you'll get used to things. Most mechanics aren't actually that complex, you'll be able to understand 80% of 80% of mechanics fairly quick.

good evening i hate omnath
Can I get predictions on what bending will be and how it will work?
>>96158396Probably something like free casts on spells with that value
>>96158396I'd assume they will be like "firebending 2: whenever you cast a red spell, this creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn"
>>96158396Best guess, whenever "you" bend, it's some sort of conditional thing. Firebending is probably dealing direct damage to... Any target, probably, and a creature with firebending does that on attack. Waterbend is probably lifegain, earthbend is landfall and airbend is... I dunno, actually, can't place that one.
>>96158396The only bending going on will be players taking it up the ass for UB slop once again
When are they going to ban all the rares and mythic rares so that creature power level will go down and I no longer have to see paypigs just spamming overpowered creatures in non-Pauper formats?
>>96158604Why don't people just make Pauper but with uncommons
>>96158604hey, cards don't sell themselves if you don't give nerds and normies a way to play the game without having to play the game
>>96158630Uncommons are often as unbalanced and gamebreaking as rares. Commons only is the best chance for having a balanced format if it weren't for Delver.
>>96158638Where's the Brazil exactly? The latest tournament listed is from New York and it also had a 3k prize pool, which is something I doubt would happen in Brazil.
There needs to be a hard cap in the rules for the number of creatures allowed in a deck and it should be at 16. No reason to allow anyone to play more than 16 creatures.
>>96158718Yeah. It's practically just standard and fagoneer. Of course it sucks.
Arby's menu optionsI really like this deck for how cheap it is. Cactuar is the perfect card that evolve needed to go into mono green and blizzard brawl and feral encounter are quite efficient if you can enable them. Since most everything in the deck costs 1 mana, including lovestruck beast adventure, feral encounter always hits.
So far my results have been great with phoenix seeminng to be a favorable matchup which is important. Avatar of the resolute is replaceable but I'm not sure what to replace it with yet.

>>96158081Why celebrate something that's now the norm.

>>96159488yeah, since you would need to play white for ephemerate I doubt it would be excellent, but playing 7 mana removal on curve with tron would be amazing. it already feels good playing G tron and curving with this on turn 3
>>96158604>overpowered creatures in non-Pauper formats?Dude commons and uncommons of today can be stronger than rares of before.
Even Pauper is just spamming overtuned commons nowadays.
>>96159516shouldn't be too much of a problem with Prophetic Prism unbanned

>>96159586Here's your green prowess, bro.
Haven't played MTG in 8 years and I'm going to the upcoming prerelease
I thought pic related was quite decent for a 2 drop but by God, it's actually a 1 drop and the rest of the set is just as busted
How is limited with all that newfound power?
>>96159585>12 llanowar elvesholy unplayable
>>96159663that card is meh in limited. in constructed it's almost as good as hopeless nightmare in esper bounce
>>96159669I'm mostly worried about cards like pic related and many of the uncommons running away with the game in my prerelease
It almost feels like everything was downshifted in rarity and thus the set is filled with limited threats
>>96159717that one and the 2 mana that you can warp from the graveyard seem annoying enough. haven't check the whole set because I won't be attending prerelease but the commons are very playable. the white 4 mana 2/2 that scales with your board and the 4 mana lockdown are nice. there's even decent removal in white

What's the sideboard like against mono red aggro?
I'm thinking Wellsprings, Spellbombs, Blood Fountain out - Weather the Storm in, Pyroblast in
What are the other 3 cuts?
>>96159798I think you should read pyroblast
marauder is also worth bringing in - you can normally land it right before you die against the average burn hand, and if you get one trigger you are incredibly favored.
>>96159815>I think you should read pyroblastyou may not believe this and i dont blame you but i know the card well, idk why I didn't parse it in my head properly
>marauder is also worth bringing inyeah I was thinking about how to get it in but didnt know what else to cut, but with the five cuts i already outlined that works out just fine
>>96159663You'd be better off staying away.
>>96158396Something like mobilize but less generic.
>>96159844Why do you say that?
Especially since this is the last actual MtG set of the year
>>96159857It's not a good game. Sell your cards.
>>96159874>It's not a good gameTrue, but yet most players always come back to it in some way

>>96159857>>96159874He means it's not a strong set. Lorewise it's one of the best sets they've made in years, though that just means it's a 6/10 instead of a 5 or lower.
>>96159959Creatures have had a lot of powercreep, but most of everything else just went through complexitycreep. Most of those cards have had a reprint in the last few years, but Emrakul is still worth a good amount, plus Shelldock and Metallic Mimic are probably worth a couple bucks.
>Original Mirror GalleryBelieve it or not, commander has pushed that to $25 in the US.
>>96159959Checked the other cards, and the rest are still worth a few bucks, even with all the reprints.
>>96159974>>96159977Thanks for checking
>most of everything else just went through complexitycreepThat's reassuring to know
I've heard so many horror stories about Modern and Standard over the years that I assumed Wizards just went full scorched Earth and powercrept everything aside from the most broken legacy stuff
>>96160004They have powercrept everything, but edh (the format that drives prices the most) has ballooned so hugely in popularity, and it's very casual. Some cards are very popular there despite being unplayable
reminder u can play any format for free forever on xmage (currently missing FF set its open source project pls understand). Bonus points it runs perfectly on Linux

I love how when a 4channy posts about pauper, he is wrong 99% of the time.
Pauper is just the 4channer scrub destroyer, no longer hidden behind "Muh expensive cards" or any faggot shit, forced to confront reality (that they fucking suck a trillion cocks and always have).
>>96160054cockatrice is like the worst of both worlds, you dont get to play with physical cards and you dont get automated rules enforcement
>>96159516>>96159488Pauper tron uses ghostly flicker.
Pauper tron also doesn't want vindicate but nonlands only, if it wants a top end "fuck that thing" it uses dinrova.
What the deck needs is a way to reliably get tron and also not get fisted to death by aggro decks abusing the shit out of a gameplan that doesn't exist until turn 3 or later.
Also if singular big dudes are that much of an issue, tron has a million cards to deal with that, the issue they run into is giving the opponent 3 to 5 timewalks and expecting to survive.
>inb4 chonker tronDogshit deck that dies to 2 counterspells, so w/e.
>>96160028The best part about xmeme and cuckatrice is how the skill level is equal to 4chan's (very fucking low, 0-5 weekly tournament bracket).

Alright nobody has actually given me a better idea than Chandra as a finisher to replace Arcavios / Founding / etc
This is what I'm currently looking at for the completed list, I think it should be able to reasonably cycle through the deck but I'm a bit worried thundertraps can't find marangs, so you HAVE to chain them to find stock ups to find marangs. Is there any other cantrip dork worth considering?
and yes you could technically just bounce their whole board, keep 4x marangs + kona and have 2-4 counterspells in hand and pass. But there are so many ways it can go wrong and it takes 10x the time
>>96160304The blue and green planets are trash, I wouldn't even bother playtesting them unless you specifically have a combo to both station them and then to take advantage of the extra mana provided
>>96160336Don't you think its kind of obvious what the planets accomplish
>Final Fantasy is the best selling set of all time, even with the price rise
>EOE, Foundations, and Tarkir sold like shit
>Lorwyin will probably be a blunder too
Are you ready to say goodbye to MTG lore?
We are gonna get 100% UB sets in a few years
>>96160358Yeah, my bad. I'm an idiot.
Rather than play Omniscience and then hope you also have good stuff to cast for free, wouldn't it be more consistent to just cheat into play a win condition like Summon: Bahamut?
>>96160336They're there for Kona tapping, anon. It does look like a strong setup, though Simic doesn't have the control pieces that Azorius has, its ramp makes it faster than the Azorius version.
>>96160304Schooner's probably a good option too. Explore can filter for your omni and secure land drops, while giving something for your Dorks to do if you don't open the key pieces to ramp into.
Likely not as a 4-of though. 1-of or 2-of maybe? Always nice to have extra consistency with tapping Kona on turn 3.
>>96160365But I really liked Foundations, and I prefer "regular" sets over crossover sets. I personally th9nk Foundations has a really good blend of both cheap starter options and strong stuff for veteran players.
>>96160369The best reanimation deck has been dino roll with ghalta, rakdos joins up, etali, etc and parts are rotating, because it could go turn 2 invasion of ergamon, turn 3 zombify and then chain a bunch of spells and win the game from legendary creatures dying with rakdos joins up
Imagine you cheat out Bahamut, opponent untaps, casts a single piece of interaction.
Combo decks pretty much ALWAYS need to win the game the turn they pop off, or at least lock up the board with a fairly deterministic state. Cheating out a single big card is never enough on its own, and the few times wizards have been dumb enough to print cards that win the game by being cheated out alone, they broke the fucking game. You know, like a 15/15 flying protection annihilator 6 time warp
Honestly, the Station lands being free unlimited free tap outlets might be the only not completely useless thing Stations end up doing.
>>96160389Thanks for explaining this. I shouldn't try to give advise when I'm clueless
>Cheating out a single big card is never enough on its ownIt's crazy to think we can realistically drop a Progenitus turn 3 in standard and that's not even good enough
>>96160365To be fair, there aren't many franchises with FF's pull. You get a big payoff early and then nothing as IPs dry out
>>96160412Didnt FIN give us a better Cryptolith Rite?
>>96160365>Foundations, and Tarkir sold like shitThey were pretty big saleswise, DFT was the one that flopped.
>>96160425Sure, but it's not 0cmc and also nigh impossible to remove.
>>96160415lots of times where playing progenitus on turn 3 accomplishes nothing more than playing an eager cadet would
its just one blocker without reach when opponent is attacking for lethal
>>96160423If FF's pull was really that strong their own TCG wouldn't be struggling to remain relevant
FFXIV has lost most of its momentum, FFVII Rebirth sold below expectations and FFXVI wasn't a particularly successful game either
For some reason UB FF just struck it big with the crowd that loves to speculate on TCGs
>T: Deal 1 damage. Draw 1 card, untap.

>T again. 1 damage, draw three.

>>96160470>For some reason UB FF just struck it big with the crowd that loves to speculate on TCGsCollecting trading cards of your favorite game characters isn't that massive time investment compared to playing through whole Final Fantasy game release. I'm guessing fans are just too busy with their lives.

>>96163647They make sense for UB, is the main thing. FF used them mostly for Summons, but UBs using Sagas to represent very famous stories from the source materials is a very 'clean' way to do things.
>>96163540I seriously doubt any set will ever go higher than FIN has.
+ FF fans span a huge timeframe from the 80's to present day
+ FF products are already expensive and the fanbase is used to spending money
+ The set sold more to collectors than actual players (although credit where credit is due, FIN as a Magic set turned out OK even if it was on the lower / casual level)
+ Add the fact that FIN is the set where Pokemon "investors" started into MtG on top of the already present "finance" community who hoard sealed collector products
It was just the perfect storm and it won't be repeated. But oh, the resources they are going to spend to try to make it happen again and again and again...

>>96163719FIN summon sagas are amazing. The idea of gating creatures by 3 turns unless messed with is a cool design feature to build cards around.
>>96163745I don't think Avatar will have them, personally. I can't see it 'needing' them as much.
>>96163544Origin's should've been something like the background cards.

You can cast Spider Man already transformed, the backside has a mana cost.
>>96164471If this wasnt legendary you'd see UR Prowess shit out 2 of these turn 4. Play a land turn 5 and just clear thr board for planispheres to get in

>>96164520>for 2 that shocks something end of turn if you played a landnot quite, anywhere except your hand anon
These Spiderman cards look too silly for me. Every day I feel more vindicated that moving on from Magic and finding other games to play was the correct decision. For a brief moment in time I was super-invested in Magic, it was the only game I played, it was what I lived and breathed, but that time is no more.
>>96164471Not that bad, clearly not meant for standard.
>>96164541Yeah, that kinda threw me too. Makes sense, Peter doesn't have to go out and suit up all the time, he's sometimes just already in the outfit. I can see them doing this for others too. Miles and Gwen will probably have similar things.
>>96164566Okay nm trashcan it
None of these seem playable so maybe it'll end up like FF and it'll just be like 4-5 cards total that see play anywhere
>>96164573i tried it but all other TCGs are either dead or worse and don't offer what Magic can offer. flesh and blood is boring, i actively despise one piece, pokemon is dull and yugioh is worse then modern at its worst
>>96164541>You can cast Spider Man already transformed, the backside has a mana cost.and?, he is still a frech vanilla 4cmc dumb dumb
I realise what the Spider-Man cards are reminding me of, the Assassin's Creed set, everything so far feels kind of underwhelming. We're pretty sure Spider-Man was meant to be an AC-sized set at some point, right?
this set sucks harder than final fantasy somehow
at least Final Fantasy kind of fits the MtG aesthetic
now we have waifus piloting robots and literal comic book superheroes
and the set after this is a literal children's cartoon
>>96164641Avatar is unironically infinitely more fitting than spiderslop but they are probably going to include way too much Korra shit
>>96164685I think they pretty solidly specified Last Airbender so I wouldn't be surprised if there was no Korra at all.
>>96163760I wish FIN had some regular sagas desu
still pretty analdevestated that the only card named after a song is just W giant growth
>>96164685No Korra only the first series.

DRAW CARD
I can't believe i would be alive to see the end of Magic: The Gathering as a somehow interesting and appealing TCG but, yep, Peter Porker and Spiderman Noir is just enough for me...
>>96164887It only proves that Hasbro left an insane amount of money on the table by letting an insane tranny turn Tolkien's work into another monument to Saint Floyd. We're talking orders of magnitude here.
>>96164928Is that the new cope? We're just making up shit based on what ifs now? I guess Hasbro left an even greater amount of money on the table because they hid Lulu's cleavage in FIN. It would've broken a billion, trust me bro. Hell, maybe a few billion more if they had special pin-up art for every girl.
>>96163344>How will /mtg/ cope?People point at line going up

>>96164928>another monument to Saint Floydthe literal same employees from interracial porn sites run Wizards of the Coast, that is not a joke. the "game" of Magic: the Gathering exists only to promote miscegenation which is why black is inexplicably the most powerful color and can do anything

I never thought they would have the balls to shit this card on real Magic players. I mean shit on Cummander crew okay, i even could accept some jokes like Black Aragorn for Modern paypiggies to get mocked but... This is for all players i can see now Porker or Noir into Legacy or Pioneer...
What a disgrace.

I told you doge

final fantasy really wasn't that bad, it was all fantasy stuff still at the end of the day.
Spiderman is just an insult to fans
MTGbros... Where things go so wrong? Maybe we gave too much power to casuals?
>>96165319Yes but it is rarely given. It is given as a defensive version of flying.

>green is the creature color
>all the best creatures are "B"lack
very deep lore
>>96165384Doesn't look like it.
In the modern era of MtG there are 2 Final Fantasy cards, Hundred Handed One (which is probably a bend for top-down design reasons), Dragon Hunter (see above), and an Ass-Creed card.
It's not used as a 'defensive version of flying', it is used in UB slop because the retards designing UB don't understand how to design Magic cards, and is used very rarely to make designs flavorful. There is no mono-white card printed after 7th edition that has reach as "a defensive version of flying"
I haven't played much, but wouldn't a blue deck (or some combo with blue) be intensely fucking annoying with EOE's new warp gimmick? Cheap shit out the ass with instants/flashes all over the place.
I swear if Spiderman set is slop i am taking the Premodern pill
>>96165450Didn't they already made a secret lair about it?
>>96165530>blue card... goodfuck anon, you're a genius. How hasn't anyone thought of that before?
>>96165532marvel is inherently slop, it is ground zero of absolute slop
>>96158396you bend x when you cast a color so firebending 2 means you firebend for 2 when you've cast a red spell

>>96165530no shit anon, they practically designed it to be broken

>>96165584I mean, Spider-Ham is a thing that existed for a long time.
>>96165584It needs foxes for it to be good. It should've had 20 creatures rather then 18.
>>96165587I feel like nobody was really clamouring for him, to be fair. From the grounds of a relatively loose Spidey fan, Spider-Ham is just sort of "that silly joke character that shows up occasionally". I hope this set isn't just "Hey do you remember Spider-Verse" over and over, though. At least give us Kaine and Ben if you're gonna do ALL the Spider-People, and, hell, the various Spider-Women that haven't shown up really anywhere but the comics (most of whom have like zero relation to Peter at all it's weird).
>>96165608It's so you can have animal tribe commander.
