My best written would probably be my Necromancer I made for 2eAD&D. Her name was Ophelia Botkin and she was an upperclass noblewoman of the kingdom the campaign took place in. I tried to emulate The Complete Necromancer by focusing on the spiritual, mental, and physical decay that came with using necromancy. I also made sure every wizard option and disadvantage was covered in her backstory.
When she was a child, her family estate suffered fire under mysterious circumstances. Her entire family was caught in the fire but her father and her little brother were able to escape mildly unhurt. She, her mother, and older sister were not able to escape. She watched them burn to death and briefly perished herself but an unknown entity snatched her soul and put it back into her body. Covered in burns and utterly traumatized she was kept home most of the time. She eventually took an interest in sculpting and would craft masks to cover her face. She also had an uncanny talent for necromancy even being able to cast spells restricted to priests. The only real drawback is using her necromantic powers ran the risk of her having mental breakdowns often reliving the fire from that fateful night.
As for the roleplay, she was the main reason the party formed with the cleric being her personal physician, and the fighter/rogue being hired as her personal bodyguard. She operated as the party's personal benefactor and used her wealth and class to get the party into or out of shenanigans. Her fits of insanity did present a monkey wrench during combat because if I could not make my concentration check she would either have a mental breakdown and just start screaming or try to kill everyone around her. It would have been a much worse problem but the cleric and fighter/rogue knew to rip her mask off since that was her talisman to be able to cast spells.
