"B-b-b-but why are you watching Youtubers bro just play the game like me bro yeah so what if I post on 4chan that's different bro!"

Now that's out of the way, the slobbering blowjob generally seems to be:
>Hasbro is cutting back on gimmedats and the Reddit Consensus is you must play Daggerheart, so here's my completely unrelated Daggerheart review!
>It's totally awesome, dood! See, D&D is *DM* driven. It's, like, oppressive or something. But Daggerheart is *PLAYER* driven. I'm now empowered.
>Like, check this out! In our first session our new party was meeting the king. We walked in and asked "What can you tell us about the dragon quest everyone's talking about?" And you know what the DM said?? He looked at me and said, "Well, you tell me. What DOES the king say?"
>WHOA. MIND BLOWN. So I decided the king [several minutes of inane babbling]."
>Goes on to give similar idiotic examples demonstrating how Daggerheart is bad improv theatre.

Yeah, that's quite a game you've got there. I think I'll go play some chess and remove my rooks for some WH40k Space Marines because that would be totally badass and they'll rocket around the board and my opponent doesn't like it I'll point out he's a totalitarian fascist.

To satisfy the Reddit Hivemind, a new game developed by a random old fat white guy would never make it. The details of the game itself are virtually irrelevant; the Consensus will only congeal around a product marketed by a Reddit Approved personality. The fact Daggerheart isn't even a game but collaborative storytelling is irrelevant. 98% of them don't play and just like being part of the Consenus and maybe thinking about a furry character and hiring someone on DeviantArt to draw a NSFW portrait.

They would absolutely lose their minds if Pedro Pascal released a game.

For context, I have played Dungeon World, GMed Homebrew World (with the follower rules from Infinite Dungeons), played and GMed Fellowship 1e, played and GMed Fellowship 2e, and GMed Chasing Adventure.

I GMed the Daggerheart quickstart for three players (and went a little further with a bonus encounter against the colossus Ikeri, a spellblade leader, and an Abandoned Grove environment, during which Ikeri was one-turn-killed).

I wrote up an actual play report, during which I concluded that Daggerheart just is not for me, even relative to other PbtA games.

I am still fairly invested in the game. I like the playtest material that they have available:
https://www.daggerheart.com/thevoid/

And I am eager to see what Keith Baker will be writing for Daggerheart:

Agreed, with a little 1 e as needed.

Wizards:
>no faggot cantrips
>% chance to learn spell
>gotta find scrolls to learn new spells. Tons of ready made adventures, treasure becomes more interesting. Best of all, in combination with %learn spell, wizards don't all end up with the same optimal spell choices.
>concentration. REAL concentration. You take 1 hp of dmg, spell is lost. Most of the time you'll be casting at the end of the round, hope the kobolds don't touch a little flask of acid or flaming oil that does 1d4 dmg/round.
>No armor. Dagger, staff, or dart only. Even in online discussions complaining about wizard domination, it's rarely mentioned what it difference it makes when they can't use the same fucking equipment as a fighter.

Fighters:
2e weapon grandmastery or BECMI equivalent. The high level fighter SHOULD have 3+ attacks per round doing a lot more damage than his 1st level self, not just better to hit.

Serious wizard nerf + serious fighter buff +as little class overlap as possible makes for a far superior game.

I like the concentration bit, but personally I'm not a big fan of arbitrary equipment restrictions. Maybe spells require certain body language so they can't use armor that's so heavy it restricts movement. I guess metal armor is a bad idea if you're using fire or lightning spells since it can overheat or get electrified. But if it was me, I'd let players use it and take the consequences rather than just saying it's against the rules.

I forgot to add to the 1e wizard restrictions:
>free movement, not silenced
>material components. Another great one that actually finds a use for gold and, like spell scrolls but to a lesser degree, adds a constant treasure hunt element if the components can't be bought.

But anyway, "free movement" was/is indeed the hand-waving explanation for why mages can't wear armor, but of course the only real reason is game balance. And again, I strongly support it for the same reason I like the blunt weapons rule for clerics. Of course it's arbitrary but it's in service to distinct classes. Now the mage has to get creative with flasks of oil, smoke bombs, etc. While I hate generic, high powered at-will magic items like yet another +3 sword or a Ring of Protection+2, I do like items with very limited charges or very situational uses. So give that mage a wand with 5 charges or potions that replicate a spell effect, and let him find a couple more during the adventure.

There are many things I hate about 5e but near the top is how every fucking class except fighters (AFAIK, maybe them too now) has magic abilities, and how much overlap there is between classes.

>Can you go more into your thoughts of Daggerheart?
My largest points of disappointment with Daggerheart are:

โ€ข 1. The GM's action economy in combat is based almost purely on how much the PCs flub rolls.
โ€ข 2. Hope and Fear create success spirals or failure spirals. Success leads to future success, and failure leads to future failure.
โ€ข 3. The game has once per short rest (in-game), once per long rest (in-game), and once per session (out-of-game) mechanics all mixed together, leading to awkward resource management.
โ€ข 4. Adversary math is inconsistent.
โ€ข 5. Druids are simply too strong, for a number of reasons.
โ€ข 6. Bards are just number-tweakers rather than action-enablers.
โ€ข 7. Too much of the game ultimately relies on GM fiat, in a way I find grating even for a PbtA game.

I have a document that goes into more detail about these points, but it is not quite ready yet.

>I bother learning and GMing it
I would say to give it a try regardless. For all you know, you might like it.

I would call Daggerheart significantly removed from any edition of D&D, for good or for worse. It is much closer to PbtA.
