What if instead of spiritual beings, angels were being of supreme physicality, superhuman intellect and deeply tied to the natural world?
Anonymous No.96217544
That sounds retarded.
Anonymous No.96217545
What if instead of making a thread about whatever inane thought crosses your mind, you just ran a game with your ideas, and see how it goes?

then they'd not be angels retard

They will be just another magical race, like super elves or something like that.

>>96217533 (OP)
What if, instead of calling them angels, you gave your made up nothing to do with what 99% think of when they think of angels creatures a new name/label and let them stand on their own merits and appeal instead of trying to shortcut their appeal by making them another "Our Elves Are Different" trite fantasy race

Leave it to a D&Detard to come up a retarded thread like this. The D&D brainrot is real.

I think Saint Thomas Aquinas kind of suggested that. Basically in his view the only "supernatural" thing in existence would be god himself as he transcends everything. Angels and demons belong to a category called "preternatural" which means they are an elevated or advanced for of nature but not beyond it per say. They are basically "advanced" forms of nature.

Where the heck did that conclusion come from?
Anonymous No.96224790

Then that would be the opposite of an angel.
>>96219424
The whole point is them being completely uncarnal and entirely spiritual. thats the whole duality of of beast and angel the medievals and renassance go on all about. with humans being something in between, semi spiritual and in the realm of ideals, and semi carnal and in the world of the flesh.

makes sense. we should make angels the same thing as weather satellites in our settings.

There's a certain theory that opposes spirit/aether to the four elements. So what would that make one who excels in the natural world? A demon-but that leads to assumptions in terms of alignment. Is an Undine a d(a)emon? Therefore, I propose that what you call not!angel should be an alt!demon, or anti-demon; how about preterdaemon.

What might demons be like then, to build off >>96242167, maybe demons are spiritual beings that need to possess humans and animals to interact with the world, and angels are so powerful to dear with the hosts?

Preterdaemon - beings of supreme physicality, tied to the natural world.
Negangels - cursed spiritual beings that can act through possession.

That's actually similar to what I was planning, where Angels are embodiments of the elements, shaped by the gods to serve them in the physical world. So one Angel might be made from Fire like this picture I found, another might be made from Water, etc. Is this workable? And what are some ways that their elements can show their touch on their forms, especially if their power leaks through their mortal guises the more they use it, beyond the easy answers of halos and wings made of said elements?

Wouldn't be angelic. Angelos. Messenger. The race has to be appointed by another being and serve as intermediary.
Anonymous No.96261495
>>96259299
And gods can't be tied to the natural world? There are plenty of gods and nature spirits that could appoint such angels in myth, let alone fictional settings.
