Malakim's Ante were a small strike team of Lamenters, sent off to the far reaches of the galaxy to reclaim lost wargear in hopes of bolstering the diminished armory of the chapter. While searching the edge of the Ghoul Star's they received a call from Baal claiming a massive Tyranid hivefleet was approaching the homeworld of the Blood Angels and that their assistance was required to help fend off the assault. Upon setting off through the warp for Baal they encountered a massive warp storm and became stranded for what felt like 100 days. Unbeknownst to them, this was the machinations set forth by the great Khorne Daemon Prince Cha'gath Akz'Hur, who continually cast teeming hordes of daemonic entities upon the castaway marines. During their time spent within the space between realities, a large portion of their forces became stricken with the curse carried by their progenitors, known as the Red Thirst and Black Rage. Large portions of the strike team were lost to the infighting, and those that survived carried with them a great shame left from delivering the Emperors Peace to their former brethren. Those that carried the burden of felling the most of their kin became known as The Benevolent, and began to paint their armour in colours of mourning, as a means of recognizing the great sin they had committed. Eventually the warp entity seemed to grow tired of toying with the marines and spat them out into the orbit of Baal where they could witness the true destruction that befell the once great homeworld. Stricken with the grief of losing their brothers, the shame of failing to aid the Blood Angels in time, they set out on the galaxy with a new quest. One of hatred. One of revenge. had my first games in a while a couple weeks back, one of my opponents was a guy I used to play 3rd ed with, he's still collecting black templars
got utterly smoked in the first game, my battlewagon got blown up the first turn of its first game, which has happened more than once when I field a new vehicle. My bike warboss wiped out most of a templar squad but they used a fight on death strat to still do a lot of damage, and on the other flank my warboss and nobz failed a charge and got lit up
Hopefully will get games in again next weekend, might try my CSMs or Dark Eldar

I spent an hour today brewing 1K lists using the contents of the Combat Patrol magazine as a starting point with some guidelines

Painted this guy up last Friday for an LGS contest.

/mydudes fluff/: I guess I could loosely call the colors homebrew stuff, seeing as I made a fairly generic background for my Cult. They're from an ice deathworld that exports pure water and whatever minerals are distilled during the purification process - so lot of orange jumpsuits on infantry, and most characters are a bit more prison guard-y. Also flamers. I just like flamers. I don't really have a cult name yet, but I was thinking like The Warmth of His Embrace or something fire-related.

Don't really do batreps, but I can say my favorite moment with GSC was an Abominant charging up the board, fighting a Murderfang into a mutual death with Saintly Paroxysms, then standing up and moving on to beat several Intercessors to death. I want to name him once I finish painting him.

AK texture pastes: Desert Sand and Sandy Desert applied randomly over the base with some pieces of cork to imitate rocks. Basecoat cork with grey. Wash everything with a 1:1 mix of brown and sepia. Drybrush with screaming skull and lighter with pallid wych flesh. Apply some dry pigments - I use sand and gypsum from scale75. Fix the pigments, add some tufts to taste and it's done

I spent some time refining the gold recipe so I think it's worth sharing. Retributor armor basecoat, shaded with a 1:1 mix of gore-grunta fur and magos purple contrasts. Mixing a flesh and purple wash works as well but contrasts provide a richer color. Do a couple passes for deeper recesses. Clean up with retributor. Layer towards parts that would reflect light by mixing in ttc glistening gold(liberator gold) into retributor armor and then canoptek alloy into glistening gold. Highlight upward facing edges
with pure canoptek alloy.

the carnifex is a kit from 20 years ago that has aged so gracefully I'd say it would be a shame if it gets replaced with something with even the slightest change in design and options
while the warriors are from 2001 but have been 'remastered' in 2014
in both cases the design cues of tyranids are more primitive compared to the kits released with 10th edition, the armor plates are a bit simpler, the textures are bit less present, the joints are bit less detailed, overall there might be less bits and bobs like spines and tiny talons, but still fit perfectly with all the other tyranids, so go for it, unless you really really really really want everything to be up to the same identical standard down to every minutia, then the tyranid range will unfortunately look very limited to you and/or you will have to rely on IO_BUTOV prints that offer bits and entire minis both very faithful to GW's new direction and ones going a step beyond that.

Working on my metamorphs, applied the basecoats and used umber wash for everything. Once it dries I'll go for black panel liner on the ribbed armor for extra contrast, it's just too good. I'll start applying the metallics afterwards, like the hand flamers, pistols, chains etc.

I've only left the arms that hold their guns seperate to be honest with you. Should be easier to paint with how you went about it though. Anyway, you don't need a lot of super glue for it to bond, just apply a small amount in the middle of the contact point and it shouldn't be visible at all.
