I just played EOE draft for the first time last night, it was my first time engaging with the set because I didn't really follow spoilers. I didn't like it. I think EOE is worse than Aetherdrift. Why does Magic have to be sci-fi, I absolutely hate it. Loot, the Wacky Racer was better flavour than this half-baked sci-fi shit. Fuck this game.

It's undeniably the strongest brew I've ever assembled.
Fleeting Spirit + Unearth turn all control lists into mincemeat. It out-values every midrange list in the format, only losing to them via the random instant-kill combos that midrange decks now accidentally get to pull off with zero investment (But only when we don't have removal.) And it has enough interaction to clamp down on aggro, though some extra life sustain would be nice for that. Pheonix struggles to push anything through all the exile and Raffine.

Discarding Dorothea to Fleeting Spirit on turn 2, then cracking back for 7 on turn 3 is kino as all hell.

The sideboard needs a ton of work still, but it's serviceable.

Shame that Pioneer is a dead format. It's the only format left that's not so redarded that brewing in it has no purpose.

I just sold my Magic collection at the LGS. I took an evening to scan all my cards with an MTG app, I separated everything into two piles ("Things worth more then $2, and things less than $2"). I phoned ahead to the LGS, I walked in, gave the <$2 pile as a donation, gave LGS-sama my good cards, LGS-sama was kind enough to process my buylist manually while I just sat on my ass and twiddled my thumbs for an hour. and then I walked out of the store with ~$1000. Honestly I took a bit of a haircut, but I was just super glad to unload my collection in one-shot. I still have a dozen or so unmodified commander precons if I ever want to play again. Well that's it for me, bye folks. Enjoy the Spider-man set :)

The new ones being shit, whilst some people from the old ones are still around means that those people have been shit forever and that any good that existed in the past was either an accident or the work of someone who went uncredited. That there was someone in the old sets who prevented this flood of dogshit from destroying the game and those people are gone.

It's like the last episode of a television season being so fucking bad that the entire show becomes tainted. You may have enjoyed the earlier episodes but the same idiot who ended the season also made the earlier episodes and clearly had no idea why the earlier episodes would be appreciated by people. As a limited player, the quality of draft environments has done nothing but rise and rise. There smart some meh ones like the last Tarkir but it’s way better than it used to be. They figured out how to make good draft formats and nothing else matters to me

I've seen some bad game design in games before, shockingly bad, but Evenly Matched may be one of, if not the worst thing added to a game, ever.
What it means is that if your deck isn't negateslop, you literally can't play yugioh anymore. Evenly Matched dodges any effect that protects against "destroy", you can't get the cards back from the graveyard, or even the banish zone. You play 2-3 cards out of your meager starting hand, they hit you with Evenly Matched, and you lose on the spot because you have 2 cards left in your hand vs 5 in theirs and they can now set up a board.

Competitive Psychatog can be built for $100 to $150
Pitrack/Machine Head decks can be built for $150 to $180.
If you're smart and actually shop around, you'll find out how cheap you can make many premodern decks for.

Plenty of competitive decks that don't require reserve list cards or the most expensive cards in the format. Cost can be brought down a lot by getting much cheaper newer printings and these generally allowed.

Tier 1 decks are mostly $3k to $7k decks? Keep in mind that "tier 1 deck" just means a lot of people are just mindlessly netdecking someone else's deck because one guy won some big name tournament. Most of these players don't even make top 8 in spite of playing a "tier 1 deck." "tier 2" decks often have just as good of a chance at winning as "tier 1 decks." Fairly cheap control style decks have a very good chance of out-controlling "tier 1 decks." Fairly cheap aggro decks have a very good chance of out-tempoing "tier 1 decks." "tier 1" combo decks can often be interrupted with a 50 cent card.

By reducing the player's life total to zero. By getting a combo out. Exiling graveyards = 0/0 terravore. No creatures = no wins. Tsabo's web = no more treetop village or port untaps. Etc.

The best way to beat it is by discarding your hand and exiling your graveyard (except wonder) to attack with a 30/31 flier and plenty of counters in hand to stop any answers.

It's a good idea to run one in the main-board unless there is absolutely no room for it. For more controlling decks, it's not uncommon to have phyrexian furnaces in the main anyways so you can graveyard hate in game 1. Graveyard combos/sync, especially something like parallax replenish, is common enough in premodern that unless you are trying to go all in on a single strategy like with a goblins deck, it's silly to not run some graveyard hate in the mainboard. Furnace is perfect for that because if it's not needed, you can always sac it to draw and sideboard it out in the next game.

Yeah. The guys who manage the premodern ban list need to really a bit more precise with their bans. Like ban oath, ban survival, ban mox diamond, ban cradle, ban intuition, ban lion's eye diamond, ban city of traitors, ban ancient tomb, and much of the issue of the $7k paypig decks will go away. The format would be greatly improved from that too.

If your format has the concept of a "budget deck" your format is comically expensive and you are just gaslighting naive retards into joining so you can farm them with your strictly superior and more money intensive decks, a 100 "budget" deck is almost always slang for "Spend 100 bucks on a dogshit deck that cannot be upgraded into a real deck" or, in the best case scenario "Spend 100 bucks into a worse version of a good deck so you can get your skull caved in except when you get lucky".

Along with that most of the premodern decks are 250$+ put into worthless cards, and "Muh proxies" isn't a really good argument because most people don't like them, it looks bad, and also most stores will still demand shit like gold bordered cards (even more worthless) as "proxies" or you'll say "just use chinaman proxies" without noting all the disadvantages that has, like getting store banned.

I'd even note that a lot of the actually good decks have shit like x4 Cradle, wastelands and a shitton of your tournaments also demand print specific because once more, it isn't a sanctioned format with hard set rules and said printings are all on the inherent reserved list.

Oh and btw, the average pauper deck is now in the 50 to 80$ range buying at the comically overpriced big name shops like TCGPlayer and Starcity of david with any expensive card being a perenial multi format staple (lotus petal, hydro/pyro variants) most of the time and the only real barrier of entry is skill, because in mtgo you can very easily pay your renting and then buy your deck and keep printing $

Every card you listed is beatable with a $100 classic madness deck. Every card you listed can be hated with sideboard cards available in any 2 color combination and lots of 1 color decks. Part of what makes Premodern so good is how powerful the sideboarding options are, and how you can build to beat any deck if you're willing to sacrifice win percentage against other decks.
