Name a modern plastic model with crisper edges and more detail than a good metal model. Maybe it exist but I've literally never seen it. Look, here's a modern GW plastic, and the quills are fucking melting into the cape. Less detail is better for most GW models. Most standard human sized infantry look too clustered now given how small they are, best exanple of this is nu Cadians, the other big issue is all those pouches and straps ruin your scheme, like say you want red fatigues with grey armour, you are going to have a bunch of unwanted leather and netal breaking your schene up when you just want them to be grey and red. This would be even worse with old world troops

Just finished off a unit of Black Orcs. I could probably have done some additional freehand on them, but most of them at least have some dags or checks on their armour somewhere. Here for instance I painted the bandolier on this dwarf green and blue to go with his scheme.

I played my first game with the Charcian Warhost I have been working on against my buddy with orcs and goblins. It was also our first time using the matched play secondaries which made for a really interesting map.

The Lion Guard did the lords work and killed an arachnaroc in a single combat and wiped out a unit 24 black orcs. My White Lions ate a charge from boar boyz though which went poorly but overall a really good game with lots of back and forth.

the dwarf one, its a lot of guys, but honestly having put them all together i cant really say it feels like money well spent.

the gryocopters are like...not a very dwarfy unit. when i think of dwarfs i think of plate armor, axes, grudges, hammers, etc, not vietnam apache attack helicopters.

and then the warrior and quarreler kits are SUPER fucking dated. massive mould slips and gaps, kinda shit detail, only a couple bodies and poses, each one is just 8x the same sprue. these shits really show their age.

there are way too many options to list, especially without input on some factions/styles you really want to focus on, but highland miniatures may be what's best for your ends as of now: it has a good roster of units for multiple factions and all pretty much in a consistent style that's also quite faithful with warhammer designs and that doesn't fall into the most common pitfalls of 3D modellers.

if you're instead looking for something less standard and way more detailed and out there, lost kingdom miniatures is a manufacturer I personally like and would recommend, even if it's not to everyone's taste, especially with some extravagant or excessive designs, but it offers a lot of units for a lot of factions.

Consider as examples of their respective styles and aims how both approach pegasus knights and a bret hero on monster.

Dark elves are a bit trickier than dorfs, empire and helves, since they're split amongst two ranges, cities of sigmar and daughters of khaine. There's nothing concrete but the expectation among aos players is that they will eventually phase out the dark elves out of CoS, which rumourmongers have confirmed will get some love this edition. Whether that means the dark elf part is ready to leave remains to be seen. Unlike dorfs and empire, which are still usuable in CoS but can't be bought, the dark elf models are still being sold under the AoS label. I expect it to be 5th edition (so 2027 onwards) when they get rid of them, but who knows.

The trickier part is DoK, since unlike with CoS, the dark elves are actually an integral part of the army. However I think gw will just bring back the older witch elf kits back for tow, or maybe update the relevant kits for aos and then bring the current ones over to tow.

They've always been a faction with a lower level of popularity. I love them because they're up there with WoC and greenskins in terms of customization potential.

I actually agree with this, but I think there's a middle ground of sorts that exists. At the very least, when I do kitbash stuff, I try to keep everything with a theme and set of rules.

I know it's literally their entire theme, but I don't like how Skaven units are dominated by the 4 great clans. I wish you could make more viable single clan list. I think he means the fact that most of the noteworthy units from skaven armies are inevitably stuff bought or hired from the big 4, so if you wwanted to make a ""pure"" minor clan army, you'd have to give up on pretty much all the iconic stuff such as rat ogres, weapon teams or assassins. essentially just leaving you with... skaven infantry.

So apperently Earth's Carribbean during colonization was Lustria for the foreigners. Soldiers and slaves were dying off in droves because of the climate, diseases and lack of fresh clean water. It was abundantly cheaper to simply ship fresh new slaves to work instead of taking care of the ones on the islands.

I don't think you're supposed to imagine the map as not having anything beyond what it shows, because it obviously shows first and foremost then important features, not all of them.

Seize the tower seems fun. Made a small but fluffy dwarf list to defend a dwarfen outpost on the slopes of the Worlds Edge Mountains. Fighting goblins.
Should be enjoyable.

Brass trim and red, obviously (you can paint fine trim by way of an edge highlight even where it is not sculpted on)

Skull trophies and thick, brutal looking chains (not lithe spindly ones - those are for slaanesh)

Khornate helmets with the bunny ears / khorne rune

Think about the kind of creatures that that embody ferocity above all else and give them related mutations - Bulls, wolves/dogs, boars, rhinos/crocodiles if you're feeling exotic.

Paint your banners with bloody handprints

Sculpt snarling faces onto the more elite models

Weapon-wise focus on axes, flails/maces and swords etc in that order. You could model a character with a flat-topped executioner's sword if you wanna get fancy with it.
