I think Critical Role and VTTs/Discord brought the fake geeks on board. I think they always wanted the nerd cred of playing DnD but weren't willing to actually read rulebooks or give up precious weekend time gaming. Now they can do a sort of part-time game where they hang out on Discord and get into theatre kid hijinks but don't actually do quests/dungeons with any sort of regularity.

I'm happy that others play games. Our hobby having more folks in it means more money in it, means more stuff being produced. Lots of which I won't care about, but some it will be the stuff I do care about. So it sounds good to me.

Neither of those parties would work in games I run. Genasi and Tieflings are planars who aren't PC races on the prime material. Drow, orcs, firbolgs and goblins are monster races and, unless we were playing a monster-race campaign, wouldn't fly either. But what do I care what someone else's campaign is?

There is nothing wrong with the racial makeup of this party. What I can’t stand more than anything in this pic is the clothing. The fashion. Every fucking DnD party has the exact same fashion, the same armor. Plate armor on a fighter in party 1 over here is the same as plate armor on a fighter in party 4748, or 93. Or there’s a landsknecht #89. It’s atrocious, man. There’s 0 variety. Does everyone absolutely need to dress the same to differentiate what class they are across different groups? The worst offender is the barbarian and the tiefling on the far left. That tiefling is dressed like 85% of all other DnD characters I see art of. I’m going to go fucking insane.
