>TQWhat are some of the older mechanics that you would like to see making a comeback?
>>96288215 (OP)>tqcumulative upkeep would be cool
Why are we still seething about farewell
>>96288070Battle - Hold is basically just a planeswalker but an enchantment. Battle - Strive would be a nightmare to annotate the rules for, something like "When a creature deals damage to this battle, note the controller of that creature and place that many counters on it" I think a better use for Hold would be something like a high powered or well-costed effect, it starts with X combat counters on it which ticks down on your end step, AND players can swing at it to make it go away sooner. X would have to be an obnoxious number like 8-10 to entice swings at it, but otherwise there's no real problem.
>>96288215 (OP)>TQEvolve. This little bastard has been an all-star in my Tidus deck.
>>96288215 (OP)>tqBanding.
Horsemanship
Phasing
Actual upkeep costs on powerful creatures and other permanents.
>>96288260Dude I love Evolve. Do you have the Tyranid that gives all of your creatures evolve? It's like a 0/4 for 3 or something. I need to pick up that little guy too. They also just made Pollywog Prodigy which is amazing and I need to slot in. Since you have Tidus, you have any advice from my list of stuff from last thread?
>>96287390>>96287132>TQGraft, it's Evolve's weird brother, and I'd adore if a creature had both. Adapt is another one, given they're the mutant Trifecta of weird +1/+1 counter mechanics.
>>96287529Sorry for the late reply, fell asleep there. I don't mind adjusting them out, any other advice?
I WANT MORE BESTOW COMMANDER!!! WHY DO WE ONLY GOT ONE BESTOW COMMANDER??!!
>>96288244nevermind, multiplayer battles just don't work under the type, at least not for this intent.
>310.4b A battle has the intrinsic ability โThis permanent enters with a number of defense counterson it equal to its printed defense number.โ This ability creates a replacement effect (see rule
614.1c).
>310.6. Damage dealt to a battle results in that many defense counters being removed from it>310.8a As a battle enters the battlefield, its controller chooses a player to be its protector. Whichplayers may be chosen as its protector are determined by its battle type (see rule 310.11). If it
has no battle types, its controller becomes its protector.
>310.8b A battleโs protector can never attack it. A battle can be attacked by any attacking player forwhom its protector is a defending player. Notably, a Siege battle can be attacked by its own
controller.
>310.8f A battle can have only one protector at a time. A battleโs protector stops being its protector ifanother player becomes its protector.
>310.10. If a battle that isnโt being attacked has no player designated as its protector, or its protector is aplayer who canโt be its protector based on its battle type, its controller chooses an appropriate player
to be its protector. If no player can be chosen this way, the battle is put into its ownerโs graveyard.
This is a state-based action (see rule 704).
so Hold and Contest would work, a Hold's controller would be its protector and a Contest would have the contested cliffs clause, and 310.10 takes over when control changes. the issue is that defense is hard coded to be a single value, not a value per player, and technically Contests would also still have to have some value for defense.
I don't see anything inherently wrong with Hold overlapping with, say the small planeswalkers from WAR. planeswalkers are divisive, so there might be some value in an experiment to see if people think a temporary enchantment is fine.
This seems pretty wild, why don't people use it vs other overrun effects?
>>96288215 (OP)>What are some of the older mechanics that you would like to see making a comeback?beautiful tits which stun your opponent who is only playing ugly hambeasts like kinnan

>>96288234Artifact and graveyard shitters don't like being interacted with.
They don't have strong constitutions like creature chads.
>>96288297>Do you have the Tyranid that gives all of your creatures evolve? Not necessary in my build. Everything is ridiculously small because Tidus turns every creature with a counter into Tarmogoyf and curving into Tidus and starting a steady stream of triggers wins games. My 3+ cmc creatures curve awkwardly with Tidus so they need to do better on value or create a runaway snowball game state on their own rather than just granting evolve. I'd be playing 10 copies of bot brawler if I could.
>Since you have Tidus, you have any advice from my list of stuff from last thread? No. You're clearly married to the precon cards and many of them they need to go.
>>96288386>A pillowfort chad not running dawns truce, clever concealment, tpro, and/or perch protectionWhat kinda scrubs
>>96288215 (OP)>TQSpellshaper abilities. They were completely phased out of existence since discarding a card as part of a cost kinda sucks, but because of powercreep, any new spellshapers that get printed would have insane options to choose from. a lot of the older spellshapers were printed with awful spells as their ability, but imagine a spellshaper today with Mana Geyser. I love the theme of them and I think there's a lot of cool flavor and storytelling potential in stapling existing spells onto creatures if those spells have narrative significance
>>96288448Botanical Brawler looks sick. And yeah I'm pretty married to some of the precon cards like Auron, Wakka, Kimahri, and Rikku. I'm probably gonna be trapped in the mid quality til I get over that, but how do you feel about Sunscorch Regent and Bane of Progress? I'm considering cutting both of them purely for high cmc.
>What are some of the older mechanics that you would like to see making a comeback?
Flanking. I think it's been on a few cards but I'd like to see more.
Funniest card of all time?
>>96288488>Cast scheming symmetry>Then cast this>double scoops
>>96288313They already have one that draws a card, what else can they possibly do? Untap all lands? Untap all lands, draw a card? Untap all lands, draw a card and play an additional land this turn?
We only have so many things we are allowed to do these days!
>>96288482they're bad and will lose you games. bop is replaceable and please play something that will actually win you games instead of a stupid boomer dragon that wasn't even good 10 years ago.
>>96288488IF you play with emotional timmies, Mages' Contest is hilarious.
>>96288466spellshapers do a ton of work in EDH because they turn any card in your deck into a useful spell. We did get one as a throwback on the otherside of invasion of mercadia.
The bigger issue is spellcasters are from mercadia and we're never going back there
>>96288513Looks like fun to combine with Ob Nix Unshackled.
>>96288234I don't hate farewell, I hate the mouth-breathers that top deck and play it without any game plan.
>>96288513Or play that with Stranglehold. Everyone else can get fucked.
>>96288525I fuggin love Sunscorch Regent in Azorius fliers
>>96288525Damn that bitch is pushed
I'm starting to really hate counter decks
>>96288525Okay I can understand that, I'll cut both
I'm sorta tempted by Lighthouse Chronologist, or is that too dumb? I'll probably slot in that little guy you posted, the 1 drop. Holy shit Ouroborid looks fucking sick, it's fight rigging or Maester seymour on steroids. That pricey?
>>96288525>>96288547man what a cuck in the dick
I just had an embarrassing game

>other players on Rashmi, Terra, and Queen Marchesa
>T&N in opening hand. Keep
>don't do anything, don't cast any ramp spells all game
>keep my head down, miraculously don't get targeted
>hit 9 mana and go for it
>Ashaya + Quirion Ranger on the field
>draw my deck
>realize I don't have enough mana to cast thoracle
>fuck
>realize I can't draw out because I have Abundance
>pass turn in shame
>Rashmi player tries to bounce Ashaya so he can cyc rift
>he dies to a curse trigger on cast
>Terra player tries to reanimate a disenchant etb creature
>cast constant mists
>marchesa can't do anything
>I cast thoracle and win
I mean, I still won, but for a deck that is usually pretty explosive, that was fucking pitiful.
>>96288547I will still play her in Minwu

Do people that play decks like this actually enjoy playing this game? I can only imagine that sawing in half a hoarding broodloord to thoracle combo every fucking game must get old
art is cool though
>Starting Town is over thirty fucking dollars
>Not even used in standard
What the actual fuck, dudes? Is a conditional City of Brass really so good it costs twice the price?
>>96288688Tell that to cEDH faggot that had resolved thoracle a thousand times.

>I'm thinking about trying out vivi
>We aren't playing with you anymore if you do
>>96288698for 4-5 color decks 100% yes
>>96288688It's a miserable card. If I sit down for a game I sort of expect to see things like this as standard fare though, it's the sort of decks the NPCs of the EDH world play.
>>96288716Tell them your playing izzet enchantress with Vivi not the tryhard Curiosity spellslinger.
>>96288230Funniest way to fuck over trampling.

>>96288752Once lost to Craw Wurm.
>>96288752it actually pisses me off because every single one of those is a pubstomper commander. None of them are good at CEDH, but ALL of those are absurdly fucking good at stomping on mid-power decks. Incredibly oppressive midrange shitter commanders.

>>96288752probably takes the game and its outcome a bit too seriously
>>96288670It's actually surprisingly easy to get bad players to lose 15+ life just to keep their mediocre turn 4.
A nice bonus is that you can bid however much you want without restriction (this is not "paying" life). So if you really want to get shot, stabbed, and/or banned from your LGS for life, you can bid 999 against someone trying to win and ruin both your chances.

Is there anything equivalent to the Egyptian Gods in magic? You know canonically powerful but actual pretty shit in game?
>>96288832Most big creatures
>>96288818I'm not up to date on that scene, but originally the "competitive" was merely adjectival. There was not a separate banlist, or any modification of the rules - so there was not a thing named "Competitive Elder Dragon Highlander", only "competitive Elder Dragon Highlander".
>>96288832Basically anything that costs over 4 mana to cast.
>>96288832Kozilek, you guys Kozilekfag don't need to respond to me.

"Proper" deck construction is a total fucking meme.
>raaaa you need x amount of removal raaaa you need x protection
No you fucking don't. No removal spell has ever won me the game, in order to have enough that matters you'd need to dedicate 20-30% of your deck to it cucking you into being a reactive bitch that's building to lose. You know what else removes threats? Throwing a fuckton of creatures at your opponent's face and forcing them to block. I've never ever been happy to top deck anything that was an on curve creature or draw. When you build with nothing but creatures you don't care about losing and draw nothing your opponents do matters. Board wipe everything including enchantments and artifacts? Oop look at that more creatures I can play every turn more draw to find em. Stax piece? Don't care I'm still swinging. Literally can't swing? GG I wouldn't have drawn the removal I needed anyways.
From now my decks are all gas. I don't give a fuck about anything not stapled to a curvable creature.
>>96289766Spot removal is not for you to win the game, its for you to not just roll over and die.
Not running much removal has some merit if you are playing Aggro and are simply faster then the rest of the table, so they have to deal with you, before you have to deal with them.
But that is pisseasy to do in green, so stfu with your non take, youre playing in babby mode anyways
Realised that I kinda stumbled into having a pretty decent Ghave deck.
None of the expensive staples like Doubling Season or Anointed Procession, but I've got a decent few of the recent, cheaper token/counter doublers like Loading Zone and Exalted Sunborn.
Is the Shroomguy any fun? Feel like he's the sort've deck you can build for a goes-wide, combo, aristocrat soup and just go with whatever pops up in a game.
Currently brewing a Dragonhawk deck and I want one combo to be making a bunch of small tokens e.g. Goblins then using pic related to get a big Dragonhawk trigger. Obviously red does well at making Goblins but I was wondering if there were any other things worth considering e.g. something that is undercosted due to a drawback such as sac at the end of turn which obviously won't matter to me.

>>96289766Draw, discard, pass.
>>96289824and thats why you run removal
>>96289819Not bad thanks, I realised what I was thinking of was Elemental Mastery
>>96289782>expensive staples like Doubling Season or Anointed ProcessionGhave has never needed these. He only really needs something that can sacrifice to gain mana. The two altars or Utopia Mycon. Warren Soultrader can do the job too under the right circumstances. Undying guys as well. It was something I noticed while playing Ghave. Almost every other game I'd find a new infinite with him. As for if he's fun, yeah I'd say he's fun, as long as you know what you're getting into with him. He will go infinite if unstopped and he will do so very very easily. As long as you want a deck that can drain out the table almost every game then he's your guy. I mention this because I initially wanted to make him a go wide and overwhelm everyone with pumped up Saprolings but that turned out a bit harder and worse than just going for game with drain stuff. Not impossible, but it was something that if you have the setup to do that then you're clearly "playing with your food" you know?
>>96289861Yeah, I getcha. I actually came to the same conclusion as you when I was looking through what I have.
What prompted the idea was pulling a Basking Broodscale and being like, "Huh, doesn't this thing combo off with someone?" and then finding Cathar's Crusade and Ghave in my old Atraxa precon.
MTG rookie here, bunch of my friends play commander but I barely played any magic at all, only vs AI games in MTG arena, should I grab a commander deck and play with them or play more solo until I'm comfortable with the game itself?
>>96289884hearthstone with lands (MtGArena) is not MtG.
buy a precon (go for less colour's to learn the ropes) and have fun playing physically
>>96289766Just choose creatures that have removal stapled onto them then dumdum.
>>96289766>Posts an image of a commander that uses creatures for its removal and protection wile dogging on removal and protectionJetmir just shoves everything onto it's creatures, so much so that it may be the lone deck in the format where it's incorrect to play Sol Ring. It is not a good metric for how you should build decks.
>>96289877>Basking BroodscaleYeah that guy is a good synergy piece with Ghave. This trilobite as well. It's a kind of commander that just works with a lot of cards. Definitely a fun one, just one I wouldn't bring out against newer players unless they get he will combo if left unchecked.
>>96289899MTG Arena is way more "MTG" than commander. The only rigging is land smoothing in best of one, but even there the shuffling is far more accurate than IRL. This is a cope from olds and losers
>>96289884If you've got friends who play then you'll be fine. They should be cool with you learning while you play and there's things you just got to play out in paper to really learn. Pick up a precon or something that looks cool to you and join a game with them and you should be fine.
>>96289952Yeah for sure.
I've never played a Combo deck in paper so realising I had like... 80% of the pieces to make it playable was kinda neat.
Definitely something I'll give the people at the table a heads up about first though.

While playing MtG arena I liked playing Dark decks, but when I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh I played a theft deck (relinquished), cus I like being a little shit playing non meta rogue decks with a fun gimmick to slightly annoy my opponent, but not ruin their fun.

>>96290126I've been told that it's not a good deck on it's own, that's why I'm considering using it as the foundation to build a deck that can actually make it work.
I've also been given some theft deck ideas like Lazav, since that's dark and theft, which I am both aiming for.
I like making stuff work instead of netdecking the most meta championship winning deck, since I like playing my own deck instead of another's
Nobody will be playing commander in 10 years
>>96290104Given your interest and, depending on your budget, you could get the Fallout "Science!" deck like you want, but also you can also get the new Edge of Eternities "Counter Intelligence" deck. That will give you a pile of cards in matching theme and colors to mix and match as you see fit. There's substantial shared synergies and a solid 65% of the decklists are different from one another, excepting land and staples mostly.
Science! is energy counter based, where you make energy counters to power your artifacts effects, while Counter Intelligence is based on proliferating counters (including but not limited to energy). A resulting hybrid deck could play very nicely.

>>96288215 (OP)How the fuck are new players supossed to learn magic when google is wrong and there are no judges? Butcher Ghoul + Yawg is an "infinite" combo in and of itself; good luck explaining this to new players. My brother was in this situation, so I explained it. Nope, if you google it all the early results explain it incorrectly and people were using that as a reference. So I said "oh, just google what happens when you stifle a fetchland. The cost resolves before the ability is on the stack." Nope. Google says the fetchland doesnt die and only stops you from getting a new land. So i tried finding a similar ruling that shows how it works, stifling aetherflux. When you google it, it only talks about the expotential lifegain trigger. Then after massaging it, I was finally able to get a ruling that showed what I explained and he then had to relay to his group, but tards are still arguing about this.

>>96290659I know you're a trolling retard but sure, I'll bite. Here's a few questions for you to chew:
1. Why did the saga retain its ability to tap for mana after blood moon was played?
2. Why did the saga not gain any more counters on the following turns after blood moon was played?
Now after you have thought long and hard about those two questions, answer me this: what would the saga do if it had two counters and blood moon would then be played? Would it only tap for colorless mana, or could it perchance retain its ability to make karnstructs without it ever going up to three counters and getting sacrificed, assuming blood moon stays on the field?

>>96290291Like a lot of tribal payoffs, it has the issue where it's only good when your deck is already working without doing anything to help you get there. Running it out on turn 3 likely won't have any counters, and compared to Lord of the Undead or Death Baron it doesn't do anything on defense. unfortunately for your idea, putting commanders in the command zone is a *replacement effect*. so if a player chooses to do that, their commander will never have entered the graveyard.
>>96291018It's no longer a replacement effect if the Commander would go to a public zone. That change was made years ago so that 'dies' triggers on commanders would work.
903.9. A commander may return to the command zone during a Commander game.
903.9a If a commander is in a graveyard or in exile and that object was put into that zone since the last time state-based actions were checked, its owner may put it into the command zone. This is a state-based action. See rule 704.
903.9b If a commander would be put into its ownerโs hand or library from anywhere, its owner may put it into the command zone instead. This replacement effect may apply more than once to the same event. This is an exception to rule 614.5.

Thinking about building a massacre girl deck. Also, when you all build decks, do you move your staples around? For example, do you just buy one demonic tutor and then move it from deck to deck?

One of them even refused to concede when asked if they actually had a plan to win the game, they laughed every time conceding was suggested like they thought our frustration wasn't genuine.
I'm also a little annoyed that one of the autists knocked me out when they could have gone for lethal on the autist they ultimately ended up duelling. And no, not out of any strategy like "aha I know I can stalemate the other life drain deck!" or something, they're just a very poor player and had no board assessment. They also had really poor ability to work through their own triggers and their turns took at least twice as long as anyone else's because they would slowly run through how everything was about to resolve, and then slowly resolve them, sometimes starting over if they got confused. Not really EDH related, but one thing that always irked me is that Red and Blue cards typically have art that is heavily red and blue, making the cards pretty monochromatic, while other colors, especially green and white will have more variety in colors rather than their respective color. Blue and red card art is the worst because of this. Anyone else feel the same?
>>96294433What an extremely vague, odd and most importantly wrong thing to day.
>be me
>Have a Lumra across the table
>play Planetary Annihilation
>He gets giddy
>Play Scavenger Ground
>Tap Sol Ring and sac immediately
I will never play in a bracket without MLD.
>>96293832neither is crop rotation
>>96294168bro I just want the life gain
>>96294444Holy fucking based
>>96294300Shantotto lets you sit there claiming to be a small bean with bad four cost spells until you storm off and do typical izzet stuff.
>>96294429The original Genasi and then you attach the aura to the Genasi token that Stormsinger created.
>errata'd to be a human cleric
I'm actually really disappointed.
>>96294660This guy is massive in cEDH Katilda Control because of that.
>>96294375It has a 33% win rate on edhtop16. It's steamrolling and overperforming in every big tournament it enters. It's is faster than and consistently turbos out under blue farm and if a win attempt gets countered it easy can pivot to another quickly. Don't get mad at me because you're 6 months behind the meta.
>>96294379I replied only to the tard who said bane of progress isn't good. Calm down sperg.
God. Nothing pisses me off more than sitting down at a table, seeing an island and knowing, just knowing, I'm playing against as FUCKING NIGGER
>>96294681I know, keep seething, retard. Bop is good because you just have it. Impeccable argument.
>>96294669I can see that, but it was cool to have mysterious, no-race, clothes-full-of-space-dust clerics like-
>edgewalker was also eratta'd to human clericFUCK
>>96294676It does not have a 33% winrate... conversion rate means it placed in the tournament, whatever that means for the specific tournament. And you can just look at the site you cite and see that its obviously not 33% winrate. He seems to have found some new cards in the past few months I assume as he is winning more but his history does not support that and even a lot of his really bad showings are from recent events.

What is the correct number of Commander decks to own?
>Playing a fun game of magic
>I go all-in on my combo and win
>Actually, you didn't play any protection. Because your deck was designed to play solitaire instead of a multiplayer game, I'm going to deny you a win so the rest of the table can continue enjoying the experience
>Playing a game of magic without blue mana
>I go all-in on my combo and win!
>I uh... I um... mana tithe?
>I pay the 1 lol lmao

Big fan of this card in my flicker deck
>>96294756Play for 3, bring back something nice, maybe a charming prince for example. Prince etb blink Astelli bring back a fetchland or basic you sacrificed to something
>>96294655Attach the aura to the Stormsinger. It'll hit first because it has First Strike, and trigger. You can then move the aura to one of the myriad-clone Enforcers to get another trigger when they deal damage, then get a second trigger, then move the aura to the original Enforcer.
>>96294770It's one of the wincon line in my Subira, Genasi is unblockable and I need Stormsinger to go exponential with the tokens.
>>9629472230. One of each color combination. Start with your favorite color combination, then go with a mono color and off to the races.
