Race/Sex Variance. Based or Cringe?
Is having different stat bonuses/penalties for races and sex cringe?
My friend group is working on an RPG inspired by several existing systems. The goal is to make a high fidelity setting mimicking Europe, the MidEast, and North Africa set in the 12th Century or so.
Right now there's a debate over setting certain variable limits: Women have a maximum strength stat, certain ethnicities have- frankly questionable- attribute variants. The clearly African race has a bonus to Dexterity/Agility but penalty to Intelligence, for instance.

This shit will doom our project, right?

Just take Pendragon and read the Book of Knights and Ladies.

Read upon FATAL, then use what you've learned to explain to your friends why they're fucking retards.

You do what you want anon, but dont be mad when no-one wants to play it or gives you grief over it.

I'd personally prefer no stat differences, but you do you. I'm guessing your system won't have a large enough fanbase that you really need to worry about backlash.

Nope. The fact that you're immature enough to be asking the question and considering it, will. It's just sad, anon.

If you are playing with hyper sensitive redditors, yes. If not, no.

Caps for stats is lame. Warrior women that are equal or stronger than men have been a thing in human fiction since human fiction was a thing.
Differences based on lore that are reflected by the mechanics are better e.g. women of a certain race can cast an innate spell, only men can be members of the clergy of a certain god, amazon women attack men who enter their territory on sight, women are always evil etc.

It just seems boring and lazy to me

is better because instead of creating "limiting" options your options are "additive"
so maybe different races have certain exclusive martial techniques. You can do whatever though. This is just my 2 cents.
