Extremely great pets, though. Would only own birds for the rest of my life if it were just up to me (SO wants a cat when they die). I do have to throw them an empty model box from time to time to keep them from destroying my window trim.

It’s an obvious one, but a CoS cogfort. Something big, towing the line between terrain and a unit by having a decent attacking profile and the ability to move around. It’d really make cos armies feel more like they’re on crusade to settle wherever they end up if they had a big thing that scuttled around supporting them, rather than just being troop lines. Maybe throw some duardin gunners on there or something, whatever

Most of the novel follows SCE debating inaction, with her superiors wanting to obey Sigmar and Morathi's wishes and ignoring Anvilgard. I guess both gods are retards, though.

He thinks they’re noble birds in the delusion, but they’re carrion bats and other scavengers instead. I think it’s pretty obvious they’re just meant to be a bunch of different weird aos-y species of bat, and giving some of them what’re obviously beaks just leans into the theme. I don’t imagine the fluff will explicitly say some have beaks or whatever but some of the models visibly do and it feels a lot more likely they’re there for fun rather than a weird mistake or something. This is a setting with cows that have shaggy leaves instead of fur and predatory shyishian horses, it’s not particuarly novel to have a beaked bat

the current understanding is that the apocalypse of the old world was messy and somewhat incomplete, so enough individuals of pretty much all species survived by sheer luck, reached the realms and began repopulating
an unknown, but presumably long (and dilated?) amount of time passed between the formation of the realms, their repopulation and the arrival/awakening of the gods, so it's also possible that certain species didn't survive but evolved back again starting from stuff that survived (say, dogs from wolves), or were spawned by godbeasts and which somehow generated progeny (like an hypothetical wolf godbeast spawning the first wolves)
it's also possible that in the magically saturated early moments of the realms, some beings manifested out of magic and then gained corporeality, like the realms themselves
we just don't really know the specifics
we know the lizards preserved their own jungle ecosystems on their ships, so 'dinosaur' species are reintroduced by them, but we have no indication they acted as arcs for all other animals

hmmm not sure what the other guy leaked but here's shorthand what i remember without the book infront of me

pretty much all the weapon profiles are same or worse, if there is a buff to one i don't remember it being extraordinary or notable.

all the non heroes aside from black coach have a 6+ ethereal, no one in the army has more than a 5+ ward, the spirit hosts can bump infantry heroes to a 4++ still

only the three core ghosts got an extra health bump, none of the heroes, other infantry that already had more than one wound did

i'm saying exactly what's on their scroll, if i didn't mention something it's gone

bgr - lost +1 attack on charge, now charges need atleast an unmodified 7 to end within 1/2" of a model if they are on a objective they control

harridan - units in combat with it can't return models or heal

ggr - now if there's atleast 5 models in combat, every combat phase, they roll a dice for each model in a unit that they target, 6+ do mortals, if it's 20 models over it does 5+

awlrach - ability is now once per battle, has no rend on his attacks now

rasps - pretty much the same except up to 3 units get a 6" pre game move

banshees - same except down to rend 1

olynder - has a 5 up ward now, hits and wounds from 1-3 fail against her, still has her opg resurrect but the amount didn't change, spell looks the same

kurdoss - has the ca shutdown and a new ability to allow a unit of craven throne to shoot his target on your turn if he charges.

scriptor - in your hero phase, he picks a visible target within 18", on a 3+ they take a mortal and

reikenor - mostly the same except now you roll a 3+ when you do a mortal to the enemy, only then you get the bonus to power level and magic casting.

craven throne - lost the ability to shoot through walls etc, now when they're in combat if they roll a 2+ d3 they get to retreat and do that many mortals

black coach, chainghasts, spirit torment, kruhlghast, spirit torment - same

I've used Alarielle a lot, and I've faced down both Arcahon and Nagash (though neither in 4th, actually). They definitely warp the game around them, as expected of models that are nearly half a 2k army on their own. The main weakness is almost always that the rest of the army is kind of weak and the god, while normally fast, can only really be in one place. Alarielle kind of gets around this because she's blisteringly fast (especially in 3rd, when she had a 16" move and fallback/charge) and Sylvaneth are very teleporty so she's difficult to lock down. But her damage output is positively anemic for her cost and while she's difficult to kill, she does need to avoid true hammerblows because she's not *that* tanky. I've seen her drop to a unit of 6 buffed rat ogres in a single activation (those fuckers were scary in Thanquol's Menagerie) through all-out defense. For Alarielle, her main power is almost always in her utility, she can do pretty much everything, but she'll almost never make her points back in actual wounds caused.

Most animals are native, and any that do descend from weird survivor sitiuations are so many thousands of years removed from those survivors that they're functionally native now with how they've diverged and adapted. Horses in particular are native to hysh and though a bunch of like sub-breeds are adapted to different realms (like predatory ones in shyish) their ancestors originated in hysh.

It seems like godbeasts are probaby the progenitors to most life in the realms, arising from the primal magics of the primordial realms and then having their children become more and more mundane over the generations just like the realms themselves become more habitable and 'normal' with time while the newly formed parts at their edges are primordial and inhospitable.

It seems like everyone did exist before the gods awoke, whether they were descended from survivors or naturally re-evolved in the realms, since humans/duardin/aelves were around but uncivilized cavedwellers (and orruks were only bonesplitters) during the era the draconiths and other animalistic species ruled the realms (before the age of myth, when the gods awoke). At the same time there's a lot of origns and different ways different populations came to be in the realms after that point (survivors arriving at different points in time, newly created by gods from souls they kept, descended from gods fucking etc) so it isn't one size fits all.

NTA, but the horse bit is a little off. Horses seem to exist as mundane animals in all the realms. In the latest Gotrek book, which I need to force myself to finish, the companion of the week has an Ulguan breed horse. Hyshian horses are the most famous because of their intelligence due to the nature of the realm. LRL Dawnriders basically have to become friends with their horse to have a mount rather than be treated like a more typical horse.

The realms are formed around coalesced bits of the respective magic. There is a massive chunk of the old world in Ghur with a city founded around it, Excelcis. And the core of the old world, which Sigmar clung to until he was found by Dracothian is in Azyr with Sigmar’s main base built around it. The metal of the core is harvested and forged into the Sigmarite weapons and armor the SCE use.

to what i understand, so dont quote me on that.

In Fantasy, unlike in 40k, immaterium is not all Chaos, in Fantasy theres Aether, where human and elven gods exist, together with the winds of magic, and the chaos gods exists within the Realms of Chaos, which are a part of the Aether.
When World That Was was destroyed, it got sucked in the Aether, and being exposed to the winds of magic directly, made the matter coalesce into the lumps/clogs infused with their magic.
And thats why they are called "The Mortal Realms" as opposed to "The Realms of Chaos"

there are multiple scattered pieces of the old world, the thing in azyr is specifically its metallic core

the realms formed around the swirls of magic of the 8 winds, I do remember something about those winds coalescing around scattered remains of the old world, but I don't think it was consistent enough for one to say for certainty that you're going to find said pieces of the old world in the center of each realm, excelsis for example is near a piece of the old world, but it's not presented as the center of the realm

tyrion DID wake up right at the center of the realm of light, so it's possible that the incarnates were central to the creation of the realms, but then again sigmar arrived into azyr clinging to the metallic core of the old world after the realm formed (maybe it did around dracothion instead)

it's messy and unclear

its pretty much the same but the defensive stats are 5+/5++, wonder if theyll make the sog one match it or not

yes I have the fec book

fec book is more like upgrade or sidegrade. upgrade in the sense that many shit warscrolls are now good, and i think it looks more fun to play.

the funny shit is a lot of the 3+ rolls actually have decent payoffs and not some bullshit range or have to happen in your hero phase (gormayne can target someone in your charge phase and make them strike last on a 3+ so long as they're in combat with serfs or knights, and a hero) and everything looks fun.

so compare the nh unlimited prayer to the fec unlimited prayer, chants on a 4 (but the cardinal gets a +1 to his prayers if no enemies within 6" and also the vestments are still there), but shutsdown positive modifiers to saves from 18" away, if its 10+ it shuts down wards as well.

the 5+ ward prayer is still there, but requires 4 instead of 5 now, another new prayer on a 5 that adds +1 damage to any hero except nagash, if you get 10 you can choose between +1 damage or fight twice strike last.

biggest glow up is either the terrorgheist profiles or the horrors. Horrors are 4 attacks, 4/3 rend 1 2 damage, have crit auto wound and anti-cav, and once per turn army any combat phase they pick an enemy unit in combat, roll 2 dice per model in your unit, adding 2 to each roll if target is cav, for each 5+ do 1 mortal.

so they basically do about 4 mortals or 8 mortals against cav every turn while at full strength on average

for nerfs recursion is down because you cant pool NDP points and blow it on models, you just select one for each noble and restore three serfs or one knight. it looks like they're trying to prevent spam by putting pretty good abilities on everyone but once per turn army

theres lots more good stuff but yeah like the nighthaunt writer got a real bad case of trisomy 21, fec fans get excite, your army still plays like it did when you bought it and is better now

so one thing the designer does here is tries to control spam by making lots of these abilities once per turn army. The units are still decent enough you may want to take two of them but the skills are usually great enough you'd want one of these guys in your list.

aside from the recursion nerf I mentioned, morbhegs lost their retreat and charge and now backout at the end of the enemies turn doing mortals, again just once per turn army.

Both boxes have a stinker unit. In the old one it’s the Soulscryer, because even thralls are semi-useful with the Scourge of Ghyran warscroll, and in this one it’s probably the reavers. 140 points for a unit with 12” shooting in a season that has most terrain preventing you from shooting and if you try to hide them, they go down to 6” range. Yes and no. The big chaos dwarf fortresses in the background we've had little word on.

Still irrelevant towards HoH, which is the chorf faction.
If we ever hear about Zharr Vyxa again for example, I don't think it's gonna be about them serving Archaon.

it's a pretty big net nerf because of a few things

>heroes that already had better than a 5+ ward didn't get anything but their save went down
>only a handful of units got a bump in health. anything that already had more than one health didn't
>for the ones that did get a bump in health but their mitigation is worse now, healing is also less effective. Not only because they reduced the mitigation on the unit, but because they're 2 health you could end up healing only one health instead of restoring 3 wounds before when they were one health

toss in the lack of strike last that they had before, as well as reliable -1 hit and -1 wound, and damage went down quite a bit across the board so you won't trade as well. This isn't really salvageable in points, and if it were, no one should buy that many models because they'll just ass fuck you when they pump up the price.

You would have to objectively retarded or trolling to read the whole tome, read the previous tome, apply a 30% discount on points, and still not acknowledge it's a huge nerf, and also playstyle shift into doing nothing.

It's one of the main criticisms of the refresh. The two kits are great but they're not all that distinct. I'm planning to do a soulblight army eventually, I think I'll try and sculpt some fur cloaks on each of them, like the mounted wight king has, to make them stand out a bit more.
