Red never really dominated a format until pretty recently, and Green had some notable early dominance back in like BT3-4 with Digisorption and Digi-Burst Nidhoggmon. Though in Red's case, you could maybe point to certain Red cards being key pieces in both Xros Heart and Royal Knights, but those decks were definitely multicolor.

Black. Color has been so weak for so long. Early on in DigiTCGs lifespan, the cards to facilitate DeDigivolve were costly. Differenr nowadays with half-Black ACEs. Certain intended boss monsters didnt have enough support. Craniamon? Big Black Blockers got worse as every new set came out. CresGarurumon? No consistent way to get the sucessful scry. Alysion had to make a custom card just for Cres in the beta and the Evil Shoto cards for Big Black Blockers.
Alphamon Ouryuken in BT09 format was the 1st oh shit moment for Black to be taken seriously.
Mid lifespan of this game was Greymon vairants carrying the color and even then, it was usually mostly Red based.
Helps that Diaboro got three waves of competent support and Liberator saved Galacticmon from memetier for recent good Black decks.

Does anyone think this will be a playable deck
The new Ryoma seems really strong but like, there's no actual combo. I was expecting Psychemon + New Ryoma, tuck something digivolve into Asta, swing with Asta 2 checks. Similar to what Superior Mode does. But there's no card that lets you swing after spending 5 memory to go into Asta. It'd really have helped Quartz too if you could get it Blitz.

There needs to be like a new Clockmon that lets you attack with something on play for the combo to even begin to work.

Not really. The new Belphemon already gives himself Piercing so there's nothing to gain from Psychemon or Astamon. Quartzmon Ace also already suspends everything so there's nothing he has to gain from Belphemon. And both of their new Tamers are memory setters.

I think the intended use is just to have enough other Hunters Tamers reduce the evo cost of Astamon down to the point where you can keep turn. Quartzmon Ace probably shouldn't be run in Hunters because of all the things that have already been said about it, but it DOES at least have impact as an Ace in that deck.

There is a decent amount of synergy between an immune body and an ACE, and there's synergy between the Astamon that needs to blow something else up to digivolve and the other astamons, which play stuff to blow up (or have fortitude). But maybe you're right.

It's so strange. Astamon seems really strong, psyche seems really strong, ryoma seems really strong. Old quartz is really strong. The hunters cards are all strong. Astamon functionally plays three extra bodies, you can even refill him with Prism Garrett. You can play the floodgate psychemon in-archetype. You can warp two different ways, even blast straight from a 5 to a 7. There just has to be SOMETHING there, but there's not. I'm just imagining trying to play this against an autopiloting Omnimon player. MAYBE you can do something with a well-timed Quartz?

My current theory is that he was going to have something like BT10 Taiki's effect, but also be able to tuck tamers. That would explain the new Astamon effect to be able to play tamers.

You're right that they're sloppy, but they do have a history of changing cards partway through development in a way that leaves a telltale sign. Like how Magnamon is a Hero but doesn't interact with Hero at all, or Davis (because they realized how strong those cards would be after they'd already finalized the designs).

The general weirdness of Ryoma and the fact that Quartz ACE doesn't say Save / work with OG Hunters (and is better as Diaboro support than in its own deck) scream to me that they had a stronger initial draft but realized they couldn't possibly let regular Hunters have access to those tools at that power level.

Rival Hunters is already a playable deck, the new Ryoma and Astamon stuff is a decent addition to the toolbox since Hunters in general lacked suspension and piercing, you also don't have to evolve for 5 off of Psyche because Airu, Ren and the old Ryoma reduce evo costs. What rival hunters needs now to become good is new versions of Airu and Ren that act as resource engines similar to the Team Tagiru tamers and also a new versions of Oppossumon and Cho-Hakkai

It's funny because Bagramon and Leviathan are main-er villains of their respective series than most of the other villains in this set, and the few that are on their level spend most of the series hiding their existence behind other villains.

BlackWarGreymon may be on the booster pack but this is really Bagramon and Leviathan's set.

If you wanted to do that you'd run BT21 BetelGammamon instead, it has the same 2k inherit but it's a Dragonkin and it only costs 2 to evolve. And that's only IF you already maxed out on Cyclonemon who has an effect that actually DOES something in the deck.

Very. A near ideal stack is 3-4 digibursts which is 6 or 8 cards in the stack. But with only one source of sec+1 you have to purge it last for the combo to work and 11k is still pretty vulnerable swinging into security. The ideal stack is using white Greymon to go back to you agus for more searching and a taller stack. With ex1 greymon's inherit and altereous's ability you can swing, get a free tamer, then go into burst blackwargrey for free which is neat. I think you can digi-burst the face down card from metalgrey. As someone that used to play BWG, the x-antibody pieces are great when you can use them for free, but terrible to digivolve into most of the time and losing a stack can be twice as bad since you can be losing twice as many more level 3s and 4s making it harder to climb back up.

Playing it as Quartz.dek is the worst way to play it, it's better to play it as a worse version of Hunters since you can use both Arresterdramon Superior modes as a top end with BT12 Astamon being an ace in the hole against your opponents established board.

The new BlackWarGreymon coming in EX10 is good, but not ideal to play 4 of between being an Ace (coming with the inherit risk of losing a bunch of memory when he's removed) and his 4-cost evo when not Blasting. The older ones feel mostly outdated aside from the promo one that's a bit of a gimmick but still potentially useful (and luckily, cheap as hell).

My advice is try to get the playset a day or 2 after the official release date.

That's usually when prices should be the lowest cause the whales who are hunting for the alt art will just sell off the regulars at whatever to recoup losses.

Like I also said previously, both Hunters decks play the same rookie line up anyway and have been doing so even back during BT12, there is literally no reason to not mix and match pieces when that's how the Digimon and Tamers were designed, Quartzmon included. Colour locking only exists on the older purple level 5s and even that was painfully trivial to play around, even more so nowadays thanks to the 2nd level 4 Arrester meaning most of your deck will be purple.

That blackwargreymon deck I posted is a very weird deck that takes advantage of a super old blackwargreymon that has a very basic but effective effect, most of the greymon cards in that you wouldn’t even run in a typical blackwargreymon deck and you would run different greymon support if you was playing the new Ace or the bt8 blackwargreymon . Digivolving during counter timing is a pretty good deal, considering it's free (up front), loosely offsetting the memory refund on the old one. Deleting your opponent's stuff on attack could be situationally more useful than "melting Security" if your opponent has When Digivolving effects that can answer Quartzmon, and killing their stuff on board can prevent them from Digivolving (especially concerning Aces), all assuming you can't trash enough Security to outright win the game with the old Quartzmon.

"melting security" rarely happens with old quartz anyways. You usually get one burn and that's it. Quartz has long been superceded by Hexeblau as "that floodgate that wins the game", which is also a stronger card offensively and defensively. The advantage of Quartz has always been that you could reliably go into it multiple turns in a row and slowly wear the opponent down. Quartz ACE accomplishes basically everything the original did, except it also turns the random level 5 on your board into an ACE threat (something they've seemingly intentionally disallowed Superior Mode from having).

It may be skippable for a Knightmon build. You don't really want to Digixros the new DarkKnightmon since it only saves 2 memory and can digivolve for the standard rate. You could try running BT18 Knightmon and just forego Digixros entirely, otherwise EX4 SkullKnightmon can get you a Nene out at the cost of potentially binning anything non-Twilight when it dies (but that can be mitigated with the new DeadlyAxemon). Promo SkullKnight's inherit also doesn't apply to LordKnight so it's less valuable.

I can't figure out when on deletion/trash effects gain effects and when theyre ignored. Same for blast digivolving.

[On Deletion] effects activate when the Digimon (the whole stack) goes into the trash by deletion. The owner of the Digimon chooses the order to activate them in.

If for whatever reason the top card of the stack leaves the trash before all the [On Deletion] effects are activated, they will fizzle.
Example
MetalGarurumon ACE with SkullGreymon and Tsunomon in its Digivolution cards is deleted in battle.
If I activate Tsunomon's On Deletion first and return the same MetalGarurumon ACE card to the hand, the Digimon is no longer in the trash and I do not get to activate SkullGreymon's On Deletion effects (even though that card is in the trash).

[Trash] effects have a trigger and may activate when they are met: "[All Turns] When one of your Digimon Digivolves into Leviamon X...", "[Main] By paying 6 cost and returning this card to the bottom of the deck". Trash is public knowledge so you can ask at any time if they have cards with trash effects there.

Blast Digivolving only happens on your opponent's turn, after any When Attacking effects occur. You will always activate any [When Digivolving] effects unless your Digimon is not able (some Yellow cards disable them). You can evolve into an Ace Digimon on your turn, but you have to pay both the evolution cost and any Overflow if you lose it.

Digipolice isn't getting more support now that Seekers' time has passed. If you meant D-Brigade, I think they'll leave that alone for a while longer because they specifically don't want Accel to mix too easily with the archetypes it overlaps with, and it would be hard to design a full Accel D-Brigade line that does that since both archetypes expect some degree of hard playing their 4-cost level 4s. And D-Brigade is still really close to being playable.

I don't think any deck really wants him so I don't see him being too expensive, unless Royal Knights decide they'd rather run more Black and Green than the Red they currently seem to favor.

That's the thing, green decks are kind of sparse at the moment, and EX11 isn't really going to help that. Black decks are a bit more represented but I don't think many of them want to turn their level 6 into Quartzmon.

Yes and Eaters is objectively better at doing D-Reaper things. It's a dead deck tragically but we should have known that when they refused to do art for it and just used screenshots.

Short version, yeah Tamers as a whole got kinda shafted in this set, second only to Adventure: essentially not appearing in this set at all.

Long version is that it's debatable whether D-Reaper really fits the theme of "villainous Digimon from the anime" even if we ignore the "Digimon" part also bringing Appmon into question. D-Reaper wasn't exactly malicious, it was just doing what it was programmed to do. Aside from a handful of Bagra Army Digimon that eventually turned good and the cards added to BWG and Beelzemon to fill out their lines, I'm pretty sure the rest of the set is actively evil in a way that just doesn't really apply to D-Reapers.

It's also why I think Close's villain arc was subject to some major rewrites, because she's a huge outlier in this set. Either it was supposed to be a bigger deal and she was supposed to debut these cards as a villain, or it WASN'T originally going to be a thing at all, and they decided to include her in this set instead of EX9 at the last minute when they went that route and threw Abbadomon in EX9 to fill that space instead.

with how niche and pointless Digimon Emperor (especially with basically every 02 villain getting in) is I think Makuramon's disguise would have been an easy include to give more tamers rep and toss a pretty well-liked deck much needed bone
Overall though it's pretty much the most on-theme an EX set has been in ages

unironically I had such high hopes for this set and then Appmon came and shit on them.

I hate appmon so fucking much. They took all the slots that could have been etemon/argmon support.
