Depends on lead content and how long you're handling them.

A handful of figures a year i wouldn't worry, horde armies of mostly lead probably.

And yes once primed it's not an issue.

Also the vast amount of consumer metals roduced in the last 30 years are lead free

Even for figures made with lead, you don't need to wear gloves or a mask. Lead isn't harmful on contact. Clean up after filing.

NMM look fantastic in a still image, in a 3d environment all that work to simulate lighting reflecting off metal (the whole point of NMM) results in a shitty paint job.

Same with those figure paint jobs that make anime figures look like 2D images. Great in photos but falter hard as soon as you move the figure around.

Reaper has a couple - the "glom", a wave of skeletons, and a few golems.

>>96362482
As always, Reaper's got some okay ones. Mostly Bones, a few metals. Their weapon conversion packs suck ass, though, don't bother. They also did a line of minis for the Deadlands post-apoc hack sold under the "Studio 2" brand, I have a few and they're pretty good.
The old Project Z survivor sets had fantastic extra weapon sprues, but those have been OoP for about 5 years. Warlord has re-issued them twice.
Crooked Dice has fantastic minis all around, some post-apoc and some modern plus a bunch of Cold War stuff. The old Apocalypse Isle and Golgo Island minis wound up there. Including one of my favorite models, "Renato Ramirez" AKA Tutu Hitler
Copplestone Castings has several mostly civvie post-apoc sets, along with more militant stuff.
The armed civvie thing was basically Hasslefree's entire deal. Sadly they didn't pay their taxes, got shut down, and supposedly re-incorporated, but that gormless jackass Artemis Black kept his job so the shipping and casting issues are gonna be exactly what they were before if the company even gets back online. Check around on reseller sites, there's still some of their inventory out there.

Space Fleet was an interesting patch up designed to utilize all the art and sculpts done for Richard Halliwell's unfinished Battlefleet Gothic. Businesses are about profit, nothing else.
Pop culture minis make more money because the hipster crowd that loves funko pop will impulse buy that shit even if they don't have any interest in gaming with it.
Whereas models that are actually themed to the property they are sold to be used in requires the seller to A) learn about the game and B) only sells to people who know and care about the game.
These miniatures are exactly what MLP and Walking Dead in MtG are.

These miniatures are exactly what MLP and Walking Dead in MtG are.
Hol up, are you just mad that they are not making minatures for a specific game and that their minatures could be used in any number of games?

I have been all thread, you dumb mong. 3d printing so as to not give money to GW or WotC is good, but otherwise, nobody cares about endless digital slop. (your barrow king, if actually cast, is fine).

Miniatures have been using CAD for decades, anon.
There's been some evolution where only now the tech for making CAD miniatures has become accessible for the ordinary Joe.
But I'm curious to know, what makes a mini STL "CADslop" and what makes a mini STL fine?

The flesh golem I posted that you replied to looks fine to me.

I actually like the beastlord in old world, pretty good sculpt, not to busy but not to bare either in terms of details.

Well painted too.
I need to know what colours you used for the flesh, rocks, and basing for the mini and for the terrain, please.

>what makes a mini STL "CADslop" and what makes a mini STL fine?
it's CADslop when the proportions and other fundamentals are off, no thought is seemingly put into how it's going to look as a small mini on a table (pose, size, details, readability).
The style is typically unremarkable, a lame warhammer, D&D or WOW rippoff. Generally the sculptor has tried to cover this by adding excessive detail that just makes it look garish and tasteless. In the worst cases its barely printable because things are too thin or small.

There's a ton of this sort of stuff on the featured page of sites like myminifactory

So what are some STL creators out there that actually make good STLs that allow for the creation of miniatures by your definition?
Not even joking I was expecting a smug stuck up response, not detailed breakdown.

But I'm not gonna lie, I like the idea of miniatures keeping things simple with a few exceptions when it comes to their designs. But I have a sinking feeling that even big companies like GW are moving towards being overly excessively detailed as designers and sculptors forget that these are thing that are supposed to be robust game pieces and are going to be painted.

>need to know what colours you used
Sure thing Anon, keep in mind I only used citadel paints for these, but you can substitute any of these colors from those in other brands

Priming
>Everything is primed black with the exception of the ground for the terrain, also I used a regular paint stores brown in similar hue to stirland mud for convenience

Flesh:
>Base: Rakarth Flesh
>Shade: Soulblight Grey
>Highlight: Pallid Wych Flesh
>Edge highlight: White scar

Rocks:
>Base: Mechanicus Standard grey
>Shade: Nuln oil (you can use Coelia greenshade for a more etherial look)
>Highlighted/drybrushed: Dawnstone
>Edge highlight/drybrush: Administratum Grey

Ground:
>Texture: Stirland Mud
>Base: random splotches of death world forest
>Shade: Athonian Camoshade (feel free to skip or find some other way to shade the ground on the terrain pieces if you want)
>Drybrush: Nurgling green
>optional step: Drybrush a few spots with Averland Sunset for "moss/lichen/etc" feel to the other greener colors

There's a colour matching tool that gets reposted quite a bit on WIP. It is a PDF of painted swatches. Hopefully that will be good enough.

these are the ones I follow on MMF and thingiverse. My criteria for following is that they've made at least one model I like. Obviously it's a biased list skewed by taste and subject interest, but I think these are good

For GW stuff, I really like this guy. The menacing commissar, while thematic, is overdone. I like how he's reading a prayer litany to inspire his troops and stupid oversized powerfists are fuckin awesome

For indie creators, theres just so many cool creators on MMF/cults that i cant decide. Im always flipflopping between ultra detailed horror monster nightmares, cute little frogmen wearing funny hats, necromunda proxies, and titty goblins
