Post your homebrews, fun stories, Army lists, whatever.

I had a thing I wanted to share with /tg/, and I didn't see an appropriate thread already to do so.

Most of you are probably already familiar with the Chapter Creation Tables on 1d6chan https://1d6chan.miraheze.org/wiki/Space_Marine_Chapter_Creation_Tables

I was messing around with them the other day and I rolled up something you guys might think is kinda funny.

>Reason for Founding: Cryptic. Nobody knows exactly why this chapter exists.
>Time of founding: Unsupported Claims of Second Founding.
>Progenitor: Unknown or Redacted.

This is turning out to be an incredibly Sus Chapter.

>Gene-Seed is incredibly Pure.
>Chapter Demeanor is “Uphold the Honor of the Emperor”
>Lost the Betcher’s Gland

Flaw of Pride in Colors.

Chief Librarian is a our Figure of Legend, who died defending an important Cathedral, really impressing the Adepta Sororitas.

Chapter Homeworld is an ‘Artificial World’ Which has interesting Implications. I wasn’t sure what to do with this, so I rolled again and got a fleet based Chapter. When I rolled for the details I got ‘Planet Arc’ Which apparently a fake planet with a functional Biosphere you can fly around, so I guess the dice really want them to bomb around on a fake planet ship thing.

Anyway, since the description says it has full ecosystems and cities onboard, I rolled for Homeworld Terrain, and got Garden World. So it’s just a nice place to live.

The Chapter Rules the Planet directly, which isn’t really a shock at this point.

The Combat Doctrine is Combined Arms Mastery and Chapter Training is All Paths to Victory.

As a Unique Chapter, there are no Tech Marines; but we do get Rare Weaponry and Special Vehicles. Which, generally, would be nice to have Tech Marines around for.

Chapter Beliefs are labeled as ‘Esoteric’, and in this context I’m not entirely sure what that means. Also the Chapter is Over-Strength and good friends with the Adeptus Mechanicus.

(Continued from OP)

Apparently their Main Enemy is the Dark Eldar. Going further down the Chart, I got to roll three times on the Major achievements chart and got ‘Raided a Dark Eldar Spire in Commorragh’ TWICE (Along with shutting Down a Hellforge, probably why the AdMech likes them so much). So these dudes really fucking drink their ‘Fuck the Dark Eldar’ Juice.

I then was forced to roll twice on the Shameful Defeats Chart and got ‘Ambushed by Eldar Raiders’ and ‘Captured by Xenos’. I’m just gonna go ahead and blame the Dark Eldar for both of those, because that goes a long way towards explaining why this chapter specifically has such a fucking hard-on for starting shit with the Dark Eldar.

So looking over the data, I have the funniest possible origin story for these guys. They’re loyalist Alpha Legion. Hear me out: The Horus Heresy has just ended, and word reaches the Alpha Legion that the Legions are being broken up into Chapters.

Enter our Protagonist. I’m gonna call him Dave, because Dave’s really fucking tired of Calling himself Alpharius. He has no idea if he’s technically a member of a Traitor Legion at this point, and he really sick of trying to keep track of which ones of his squadmates are betraying themselves while disguised as each other. So he hatches a plan.

Dave grabs a couple of his boys, tells his immediate boss they’re going on a scouting mission, and then they just straight up repaint their armor and start pretending to be a legitimate band of actual Space Marines. Since they’re careful about where they’re going and always openly helpful towards imperial forces, by the time anyone important realizes they have an extra chapter of Space Marines running around that might even be a second/third founding chapter, they just assume someone somewhere fucked up the Paperwork.

(Last Post)

Originally they started out doing enough to avoid suspicion, but given that they were acting like how they THOUGHT Space Marines should be acting (A combination of Salamanders Friendliness/Generosity, Dark Angels proud and Chivalrous demeanor, and the Alpha Legion’s lack of individual pride or interest in personal glory to prioritize getting shit done….) They eventually started overdoing it, thinking that was the ‘minimum’, and their humility in the face of the praise they were getting started to morph into crippling Impostor syndrome. Which led to them overachieving and underselling their work in a panicked reflex, gaining them more praise for their Heroism and Humility, etc until they one day realized they really were built like that and had probably built up enough Good Karma that they could probably openly admit to being former Traitor Legionnaires that scammed their way back to the Heroic side of the morality scale and just get away with it.

Also I tried using a name generator for these guys and I kept getting very not great sounding names: Beta Serpents, Lunar Hounds, Emperor's Serpents, Etc. I ended up going with 'Jade Guardians', because it was the first name it spat out in like twenty minutes that wasn't:

A: Taken.
B: Suspiciously close to a Traitor Legion.
C: Both.

Anyway, what do you think the odds are the Alpha Legion knows who these guys are and are trying to figure out if they forgot they were supposed to be up to something, de-renegaded, or are pulling the longest con in human history?

Considering the fact that Alpha Legion is in the same position as most Traitor Legion, read: a bunch of Warbands without a overarching goal and everyone just doing their own bullshit, then most likely only the original group those guys came from would be able to realize something happened. Of course, that's assuming the original group still exist and didn't fracture further and then they would need to realize something happened in the first place instead of assuming that Dave and his dudebros just got themselves killed on a fucking scouting mission and never bothered to investigate further, then assuming that they did actually realize anything, then they would likely go for de-renegade option unless they particularly nuts, then they would go for the con option and assume that the plan, whatever it is, is going as intended.

This attempt at a general thread would probably have gone better if you had named it as a General Thread.

I love that there's a novel where one of the Alpha Legion guys goes "we are fucking the Imperium" and another goes "you ain't doing jack shit. Like really."

>Chapter:Keepers of Hel
>Founding: 23rd("Sentinel")
>Progenitor: Iron Hands
>Reason of Founding: Tarot, Warning, make chapter. Done
Okay, we doing fine.

>Chapter Gene-seed deviates a little. Maybe less fixation on Cybernetics and more angery
>We love doing what Ferrus did in Istvaan V, aka keep fighting even if we are losing.
I see, I see

>My Ancient is the Chapter legend
>He used melta charges to destroy a traitor titan forge
What. Okay, weird.

>We are fleet-based. Makes sense, also no Master of the Watch cuz no Fortress-Monastery
>Our flagship was a damaged ship now reforged. Okay, fitting for the whole steel thing. Calling you Chain Unbroken buddy.
>We follow the Codex the same way as Iron Hands but we don't follow them that much either.
Okay we do have our own Chapter Master I take it.

>We Enjoy striking fast, not letting /theirguys/ to retaliate
>We have a "The chain is stronger than their weakest link" deal
Are we sure we are Iron Hands?

>We use totemic charms
Yeah, we all carry cog necklaces to represent a decade of service, each teeth representing a year and the carved the small shape of the Clan Company we served.

>We have Ferrus on a pedestal
Guess we think his death was caused for not relying in his brothers, rather than because of them? Idk
>overstrength
We loophole the codex with specialized roles. So we got a huge Iron council. Lots of opinions. Guess the tarot is being serious
>Navigator House on Good terms
YEAH THAT'S RIGHT, BITCH ASS NO BALLS
>We hate Orks
Cliche but okay
>be has the Loxalt on a shit list too
Heh, less cliche
>We are efficient
Ironic.
>We liberated captives from Commoragh
I prefer "more serfs" but I am not Iron Hands so not bad either way.
>We couldn't save a shrine.
Soo much for fighting until we all die.

Brb with my hierarchy

Man, I've really come to find space marines just utterly uninteresting. It's wild how despite all the resources both GW and fans have poured into being able to make your own special little donut steel chapter they all end up so samey. I'd rather read about custom craftworlds or tau septs or anything else really. I feel like even homebrew splinter fleets have more character than the average custom chapter.
