I expect it'd be quite the challenge for him and Alyona to become friends, precisely because of their similarities. He spends every day working to outmaneuver "rich corporate assholes" who pretend to like him so they can further their own ambitions, and she's cut from the same cloth. He'd see her communist ideations as further proof of that and as an even worse kind of deceit: the kind where people like them pretend they don't know where they come from.

She also may not appreciate his attempts to snatch up those she's worked hard to secure in her chains.

Autistic weirdos tend to be among the few people he genuinely likes as well, since what you see is usually what you get. Being highly skilled in a specific field doesn't hurt either.

Brainstorming potential interactions here.

Reiji couldn't offer Archie much in the way of a friend group. He doesn't actually have any real friends on account of his family name making him a pariah. But he could offer him a job, something like a guard for Reiji's castle. He could also fund the formation of a boxing club at the school, or try to get Archie a place in Kuraoka's underground fighting tournaments. He'd do his homework and learn that Archie doesn't actually need money anymore, so he'd probably say something about the money you get for free being far less meaningful than the money you earn yourself, something Reiji knows better than anyone. Reiji would try to find a way to make use of Archie's special talents by making him feel fulfilled and important, even if only as an employee.

These things may or may not conflict with Alyona's plans for Archie. If they did, Reiji would probably just subtly undermine Archie's trust in her. Maybe he'd point out that, like Archie's stepfather, Reiji could never truly understand what it's like to be him. And anyone with his kind of wealth who pretends to is merely blowing smoke up his ass.

I imagined her drawings being a kind of spirit writing thing as her "oujia board," so there's bound to be something useful amongst them with all the odd places she chooses to find inspiration. It is a bit hard to say how they'd initially react to each other. He's naturally distrustful and overall not a huge fan of other rich kids. I think he may need to see it in action multiple times before he'd trust that her good girl act is genuine. He does like people he deems to be noble and good-hearted; he's just too jaded to buy it most of the time.

On the flip side, he may be harder to read than what she's used to. Honeyed words typically hide an ulterior motive, but true ruthlessness or cold, open manipulation tends to be an attempt to pick the lesser of two evils or a way to help someone he believes lacks the vision to help themselves. Using people as assets often boils down to giving them the freedom to do what they want by directing their talents towards his own goals. It's probably difficult to determine if his shade of gray is closer to black or white. If she did see through to the real him, it's possible she wouldn't entirely hate what she finds, but he's not even a fan himself.

I think a possible circumstance for regular interaction is if Alyona starts causing issues for the student council by manipulating club funding, and Madoka feels forced to go to him for help. There'd be potential for a lot of characters to get dragged into something like that.

And it might be more interesting if he was another outside influence on them. Maybe he'd join a computer club or journalism club to get more access to people who are good at gathering information. Or maybe the Gardening Club and just occasionally deliver flowers to people he wants an excuse to talk to. Not sure really.

Very fair for his viewpoint. Being too jaded to trust what he sees is on brand. On the flip side of being hard to read, I agree that he'd be harder than most, yeah. Reading people is the main function of Madoka's custom combo making her pretty good at it, but we could argue it away if needed for the plot. Maybe Reiji noticed that talent of hers early and made a point of spending the least amount of time actually face-to-face with her as possible. Or maybe when he does have to talk directly, he gaslights himself so hard that he thinks the facade he's trying to present is the only truth, letting his actual personality slip under the radar.

Alonya is good source of interactions for sure. Seems like she'll be causing no small amount of chaos. One way or another, I imagine most everyone will get dragged into it and end up interacting. Not sure if Madoka would actively feel forced to seek Reiji out though. Only particular way I see her feeling forced is if somehow there's a specific need for superior business acumen, like Alonya needs to be driven out of business by facing a competitor who does business better... Not sure. If Madoka's reading wins out over his gaslighting it'd be a bit different since she wouldn't distrust him, plus then she could get the idea in her head that recruiting him against Alonya would be a way to help him cleanse some of his bad reputation.

Either way, it'll probably work itself out. They're both the type to network and there's only so many PCs, so they're bound to butt heads eventually even if they actively avoid each other, kek.

Yeah, I was thinking something more like that. I was trying to acknowledge her ability to read people in my reply; I just find it fun when characters can't rely as much on their strengths as usual. I figured she wouldn't really fall for his manipulation tactics, but her image of who Reiji really is would remain pretty blurry for a while.

It's also why I suggested her going to him for help with Alyona, since I think he'd need to either take advantage of an outside problem or create a vulnerability to exploit in order to gain some level of control over the student council. The members so far seem generally too upstanding and well-adjusted for him to buy off or manipulate like normal. I imagined the student council reaching some sort of stalemate with Alyona, and then Madoka going to Reiji in order to tip the scales in some way. Not something I thought through completely. Madoka viewing the alliance as a way to help someone out definitely seems in character for her though.

Another idea I had was Reiji asking her to train him in martial arts, in order to get extra time to work a prominent student council member who's proved too tough a nut to crack thus far. Maybe she can tell Reiji's not actually all that interested in martial arts, but wants to see if her hunch about him not being so bad is correct. She may also have an itch to start training again, and sees this as an opportunity to do so without being tied down by dojo heiress obligations. Or something like that.

I mainly want to write two things with her. Getting possessed by her Idolon is her main arc, where she ends up going on a rampage with her powers and steals all sorts of things and people, culminating in a big boss fight as Nurarihyon's left hand woman. The other thing is chaos with cursed objects, because that's always fun.

Apart from that, I think Rin could work in a few other arcs, like getting clues for Itsuki's revenge. Once her idolon's subdued, her ability to make bleeding zones on command could open up more "superpowers vs the mundane" arcs too.

Momofuku will work to rid her streets of yakuza, riots, bullies, and serial killers. She will also be there as one of the people who punches the antagonist builds back to sanity, though she'll learn how to solve her problems with answers beyond violence. Eventually. Old habits die hard.

As for supernatural stuff, delinquents and student council members don't match well, so she'll start by trying to fix things in her own way, going through the bleeding zones scattered throughout the city with awakened members of her gang, until she warms up to the student council builds beyond Madoka and becomes a permanent party member in their idea world expeditions.

Aside from fighting in the real world and fighting in the idea world, she's also available for dumb comedic get quick rich schemes with the other poorfag builds.

I think of Renka as primarily being an accessory to others.

Renka's side plot in the Census club debacle is Momo convincing her to be a silent bystander to Alyona's actions, but on a deeper a level I see this as grounding her more in reality. While there are multiple factors at play for her isolation, a significant one is that she simply doesn't feel at home in reality. As more and more supernatural elements come into play I imagine her being pulled between both worlds, both literally and metaphorically. Eventually, her withdrawal into herself turns into hiding herself away in her slice of the idea world.

It would depend on others being involved in When Children go Marching, but having the past resurface and explore through it something I've been thinking about.
