Baldur’s Gate, then BGII, then Throne of Bhaal. Then Icewind Dale 1 and its expansion. Then, if you want, Siege if Dragonspear, which despite what /tgpol/ says has almost no wine content (there’s a companion who’s gay, which you’ll only learn if you’re a male CHARNAME and try to romance him; and a single NPC named Mizhena with less than 50 words of dialogue who’s trans, but she only tells you that if you specifically ask, otherwise she’s just a shopkeeper).

Honestly the disappointing thing with Mizhena is that there’s no hidden quest if you held onto the Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity to give it to her so she can put it on to become physically female and reward you in return with, like, 5,000 XP and a +2 Warhammer or something.

Anyway after that move on to Neverwinter Nights. Also play Planescape:Torment at some point.

I thought Siege of Dragonspear was great, I'm not sure I even spotted the random trans merchant. There's no reason not to play through it immediately after BG1 as intended if you're doing the series for the first time IMO.

You almost certainly did spot Mizhena since she’s the main cleric merchant in the war camps you stay at, so if you ever went shopping for potions or healing, you talked to her. But that does go to show just how unobtrusive her trans nature is.

I never finished BG1 back in the day. I think I got to the final act and got stuck on some quest involving dopplegangers, but this was back when I had to swap CDs so I doubt I'm remembering correctly.

Is the EE all fagged up or is it okay to play?

EE mostly adds new companions whom you can totally ignore if you want, so no. Nothing is actually *changed*, other than graphical improvements. But no dialogue or anything.

Of the new companions, Rasaad is romanceable only by females, Neera only by males, and Dorn by either sex. Although Dorn tends to get praised even by people who hate EE, so…

Oh also I guess there’s the hidden fourth companion, Baeloth. He’s not romanceable at all.

Your memory is accurate, that is the final part of the game and it can be frustrating. How EE got a reputation for being a gay fiesta I don't know, played both + the Dragonspear campaign and it barely came up in the new content, the old content is untouched. The only instance I can even remember is from Dragonspear in the first 5 minutes, and that's it. Now if people want to blame EE content for being "not good" I think they got a better case. Didn't hate Dragonspear but I didn't have an urge to replay it. I was very happy with the EE releases, and is how I play them now. I'd recommend them.

>all the faggots dismissing all the garbage writing in siege of the dragonspear and all of the changes in BG1 EE because the chuds complain about the gays
EE is fucking shit for many more reasons than any gay shit, and siege of the dragonspear is a miserable slog regardless of the trannies and gays inserted into it.

And the new companions are all trash that don't fit at all. And lets not mention the character rewrites in siege of the dragonspear. And no, I'm not talking about the infamous minsc line.
Anonymous No.96362291

Neera, Rasaad and Dorn were all smeh to dreadful, though I did do a full playthrough with all three when BG1EE first released because they all came with new content (and areas in the case of Neera and Rasaad) and BG2 style banter

Baeloth was great fun, but if I'm gonna roll with an evil wizard it's never not gonna be Edwin (Xzar get dualed to a cleric).

I've only ever played through SoD once (should really get down to another BG1 run, it's been a decade), and the only new companions I took with me were Corwin and... the goblin shaman, because I wasn't gonna pass up new quests and banter with the BG1 companions I'd been wanting more of for at least a decade. It was nice to see Khalid get fleshed out properly, especially his marriage to Jahiera so I could cuck his corpse in BG2

This sort of thing is why I can never understand the tranny's "struggle" in TTRPGs where not only magic exists, but you can simply choose a character that isn't dysphoric over whatever sex of character you want to play. Either their insanity is on such a petty level that it's solved by the silliest do-nothing cursed item, or it's a goalpost-moving performance that loses all gravity because the solution is never good enough. When I bought the randomly-rolled Dagger of Blindsight from the wandering salesman only to gift it to the local blind NPC, DM was cool and had her druid husband dig out a Mask of Animal Speech in appreciation, and later negotiating on the the party's behalf for the genuine act of kindness, even though we didn't know she already had a more minor form of blindsight.
Similarly, I grew up on Ranma 1/2, where being a hot guy or a hot girl can be more advantageous to a situation. Things like chicks mooching drinks and classified info off of drunk guys at a bar, or a charming gent getting a lady to swoon with flattering dialogue to hear the latest royal gossip. The thing that they're caught in a mental hang-up over is to me is but a single tool in a toolbelt for darn near every character mature enough for it. Guy turns into a lady to go undercover as a waitress, there's no trouble flashing cleavage for tips or playing the role of prude if the situation calls for it. Gal turns into a dude to go undercover at the construction site, there's no trouble going topless to sweat out the pecs during lunch break or going into the men's restroom to follow a mark. Might even be funny if they exaggerate the gender role a bit.

This is a minor thing considering that they specifically said they were using SoD to "fix" female characters from bg1, so the character derailment is worse there.

I’m a troll at heart so if one of my PCs tried to use gender change magic to seduce or entice an NPC, and I hadn’t already deided ahead of time. I would be rolling a d% and on a 1-10 the NPC would be gay, meaning the effort was wasted. Just for the comedy of the moment.

(Obviously doesn’t apply to NPCs with established sexualities, nor if the PCs did the legwork of figuring out the NPC’s sexuality first).

Just play EE with the mod that removes the new characters.
Anonymous No.96366130
EE is interesting to me as a window into 90s dnd-culture and modern dnd-culture (and game development but that's besides the point). I am not a fan of the EE companions, but mostly because I'm an old fart who hates things that are different, but with the voice files in front of me there's a lot of differences in the kind of dialogue that gets attention.

Notably there's the quantity, but we can chalk that up to technical limitations. But even if we take parts of the game that were given precious disc space back in the day, and compare it to now, you can see that the kind of dialogue that got attention was flavour and impressions. Whereas EE characters are focused on emotional line delivery. Also the newer actors trying to sound 'serious', they are giving a performance you'd find in a modern TV show or alternative video game, whereas OG characters are often hammed up to the absurd. Flaming Fist being an obvious poster-boy, but almost every line of dialogue that is not the narrator or a story-critical character is delivered with a serving of ham. EE characters' comedy is generally performance-driven, rather than writing-driven.

This is ultimately why I don't like EE content much, but I think it is really interesting to have these things in such sharp contrast to each other by having game content that is over 10 years apart. EE is starting to get old and so there will be a blurring effect as time goes on, but it'd be fun to see it get a second remaster sometime in the 30s to see how things would change between through the ages.
