What sort of Paladin hybrids would be interesting? Kingmaker had a Ranger + Paladin hybrid called the Divine Hunter that was pretty interesting.

Personally I think a Rune Knight + Paladin combination would be interesting.

Bard paladin is based. Not as strong as warlock paladin but what is? And you said interesting, so warlock is right out.

From Smite to Song Paladins were ridiculously strong in 3.5. No hybrid of them has ever been that strong since.

I'd like a Paladin/Barbarian hybrid. Rage and smite. Smite with righteous anger while you rage, protected not by heavy armour, but by your faith in God.

Do you mean multi-classing or just changing the standard template of the boring ass sword and board paladin?

Nothing obligates the class to be that way beyond the particular image D&D sets out for typical paladins.
