People started taking it seriously and playing tournaments and shit like that. 40k players used to laugh at the crappy terrain used by Warmachine / Hordes players, who used flat bits of neoprene to determine terrain areas because that's what the tournament scene demanded.
I'd say something about how the tables have turned and it's 40k using dull terrain and Warmachine players have fun, immersive terrain setups but nobody plays Warmachine anymore, so whatever.

This really is an absurdity. The game was created to simulate war, ie. it's a wargame, why would there ever be any place for balanced "tournaments" in war?
