Something i have discovered about Warhammer is the more you get into it the more you learn to fucking hate Dark Eldar and their players. Not the Elves, Dark Eldar. i am certain that everything wrong with Warhammer and GW as a whole can 100% be traced back to the fact Dark Eldar are the favorite faction. The 'Humor' DE players have is awful, the Lore is boring, the Stories are usually boring with like one or two interesting one, and overall they bring down the setting and world for everyone else. You can actually track the slow decline of GW with the ever increasing rise of Dark Eldar love, to the point im not even sure why we still call it Warhammer 40k instead of Warhammer: Drukhari. What really got me is how every important figure in 40k are just ever meaner dark eldar.

They're just boring and bland. Also GW puts so much fucking focus on them instead of factions that actually deserve it, like the Ratlings. Also the DEldar ruined Fantasy too.

Hobbits were Tolkien's self insert and they suck no matter what spin people put on them.

The original Dark Eldar Codex was one of the best things GW wrote. It actually expected you to use you to do the legwork and work out what was going on with the Dark Eldar purely from short stories and in-universe descriptions instead of spelling it out from an omniscient word-of-god position, which was quite neat. They were also a tiny evil faction instead of being the strongest most powerful faction ever that will be the end of humanity like all the other evil factions (Orks, Tyranids, Chaos, Necrons) which was a nice change of pace. They were cursed with terrible models and terrible rules so they never became popular and GW has been trying to rectify that ever since.

>They were cursed with terrible models
The basic Dark Eldar warriors looked good. The original design of the Incubi was better than the current form (showed their Striking Scorpion heritage, and they wielded cool glaives instead of their silly current weapons).

I don't dislike the current Scourges, but the originals with jetpacks were kino. Original Hellions were cool. Talos was rad.

Mandrakes, Jetbikes, Wyches, beastmaster pack, and Grotesques were all derpy.

Mandrakes were the only model I really didn't like

Those were the worst of the bunch. Wyches weren't too bad.

To be fair, that's how most lore was presented in third edition

Well, the other part of "terrible models" in my mind is that as best as I can remember, everything except basic warriors was in metal, and back then it made them prohibitively expensive as well, especially when most were sold in blisters. Hellions have terrible faces like almost every other Dark Eldar model back then, but I suppose that might have been intentional considering their lore.
I will admit that Scourges are alright for the time and all the vehicles were pretty great.

Most presented overall narrative about the faction in question, many of which were written from a neutral, omniscient perspective, though some were presented from Imperial point of view. With Dark Eldar you didn't have that overarching narrative, it was just a bunch of seemingly disconnected stories and fluff pieces. Their entire central concept of "they torture people to prevent Slaanesh from eating their souls" wasn't strictly speaking even canon, it was only ever implied, not outright stated.

Once upon a time, GW was staffed by talented, creative people.
