Cypher is the best generic system ever!
>Read it
>Roll a d20 apply modifiers to try and beat a TN

I've seen people say that tgey like the Cypher system and that they dislike it, but I haven't seen any widespread sentiment of it being the best generic system ever. Aside from that, there's more to any game system than the specific die or dice it uses.

That's like a footballer hearing that basketball is cool, but getting turned off because it uses a ball. Fucking idiot.

The ACTUAL reason it sucks as a generic system is that nearly every ability is just a consumable item

Roll a d20 and add modifiers to meet or exceed target number is literally just using the d20 system.

It's the same resolution system, but "d20 system" normally implies a lot of other legacy crap like levels, classes, hp, ability scores etc. It's possible to use a d20 to resolve tasks without any of the other stuff, but that wouldn't be recognised as "d20 system" by most.

Nah, it's more of an indication that, at its core, 3.PF is a much better system than people give it credit for.

You sound like you could use a roll under system, like the Warhamer Fantasy RPG, or Chaosium's Basic role playing. I mean if "roll D20 against target number" is the only problem here, look into any system that

A) Doesn't use D20
B) Doesn't roll over a target number

Cypher & Numenera are great
They help to filter newfags & tourists out of actual gaming
And anyone unironically recommending them is a quick ejection from the table
:)

I don't think most people who criticize Cypher have really spent much time playing it. Do I think it's the best system out there? Definitely not. I do think it's a great system for more narrative-driven games and amazing for one shots.

I would definitely avoid it if you want anything resembling crunch though.
