I have been seeing more and more players and GMs using AI-generated text, and people explicitly accepting it. This bothers me a great deal.

Last April, I played in a game wherein the GM's communications, both in- and out-of-character, were AI-generated: https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/96077242/

Recently, I have been seeing players and GMs advertise themselves using AI-generated text. Screenshotted to the left is an example. They follow the same patterns: bullet-point lists decorated by emojis, em dashes, "not just X, but Y," and the like.

I saw another one of these advertisements just a while ago, in a certain Discord server. When I brought it up to the administrator, they allowed it, saying:
>Ai was being used as a tool to help structure what they are saying. Whats to mistrust? That they put what they wanted in chatgpt, had it structure the words better for them, and posted it knowing full well what the words mean?

>I don't see any reason why them using AI to explain their wants is them lying.

>Sure, they have their own reasons why they aren't using their own words. I'm not gonna ask them why because it might be embarrassing like they might have a disability that makes it hard for them to structure words. I'm gonna allow it, honestly its a non-problem.

I do not know about this. Such behavior is going to set a precedent wherein it is fine for players and GMs alike to communicate both in- and out-of-character with AI-generated text. Do we really want this nightmare scenario of a dead internet theory seeping into tabletop RPGs?

Stop playing your TTRPGs with mentally-ill Discord users. Get some real friends and play at a real table.

I don't know if there's much we can do about it. I'm not personally opposed to using AI as a tool for organizing ideas and so on, but letting AI basically speak for you seems like it'd take the fun out of things. Obviously it also denies the person in question the chance to practice expressing himself, interacting with people - even if just online - and so on, which is not good.

>AI

Midwits love talking about this all day every day. I would rather just make my own things, that's the point of an analogue hobby. I'm not going to win any awards but it's mine.

>ps: does anyone who does anything with AI not pertaining to torturing furrykin tablet artists know of anything cool it has done yet? Until it makes all of us a tiny bit richer, healthier or safer I am calling it a bubble

Eventually the AI can stay indoors and play RPGs while we work in the mines.

fpbp, but I've had an in-person game where the DM relied on AI. It was, as you'd expect, miserable. The problem with that game is that I found it on Reddit. Never trust a redditor to think for themselves.

I would never actually do it because I value my time, but one of my "campaign ideas for if I had infinite time" was to have the enemies and world past a certain barrier, be all AI generated. They would fight AI generated enemies, everyone in this realm, whose curtains as slowly spreading, would be AI generated, etc. So that tinge of soullessness that that content has, would pervade the setting. So they'd have to fight against that hopelessness as they journey to fight the AI as the BBEG.

About 50% of the population are incapable of internal dialog already. I play Fantasy games to escape reality, not subject myself to more of it.

People are lazy.
Some people are lazy enough to offload even basic cognitive work to the machine.
That's about it.
If you have a corporate job, you've already been used to that for a while now.

People trying to play D&D on Discord are doing it for one of two reasons. They're insufferable retards who can't find a group in real life willing to put up with all their autism and other nu-age baggage... or they're looking for kids who's parents are stupid enough to be letting them on Discord.

Either way, you're dealing with "people" who you shouldn't expect even the most basic bare minimums from.

I'm of two minds about.
No, I don't think using AI should be some kind of bannable offense, here or anywhere else.
Yes, I do think using AI is the sign of a subhuman fucking retard, and it shouldn't be normalized or praised.
Ultimately, look, these are retarded, lazy dipshits. You shouldn't want to play with them, and you have every right to publicly insult them. Without shame, these people are shameless. If you don't want people shamelessly using AI, they should be shamed for it.
Common sense.

Hi Touhoufag

Anyways, there's not much one can really do about it beyond keeping it out of your own table on a personal level. This has always been a per-table kind of hobby in a sense, and you can't really control what others do without just straight up trying to bully them into lining up with your vision, which obviously comes with its own consequences.

Though going on random Discords always carries with it some risk of dealing with weirdos and schizos that you need to accept if that's your main source of games, frankly.

The problem with your pic specifically isn't necessarily that it's AI. It's just obnoxious. And that would be true if it was written by a person too.

As a GM I've used a reasonable amount of AI text for things. Mainly extra material for handouts. It's fun to hand players a bundle of papers and let them root through it for clues. I've discovered that AI is very good at generating fake operating manuals or technical logs.

But as always, it's down to user skill and taste. Emoji-laden chatgpt nonsense is the fault of the retard that submitted it.

It's funny seeing DARVO as a policy in action. It's not very innovative or warranted but I bet it works over time.

That's just a terrible, soulless post, even for AI.
All the touchstones for what they want being popular anime, that don't even match the descriptions of what they are, is such a huge red flag they're still flying it over Moscow.

If you're past your early 20s making new friends is basically impossible, you're just outing yourself as a kid with no understanding of the real world.
